New K Vintners Releases Arriving This Fall 2018!

charles smith cellarThe wines of K Vintners need very little introduction, as the wines Charles Smith makes under this label are some of our most popular year in and out.  The new releases arrive next month and they’re highly praised and highly allocated, as usual.  Three wines in particular stand out for their combination of scores and price and we expect the Beautiful, Hidden, and Cattle King bottlings to go the fastest, so if those wines look appealing to you, jump on them post haste.  It’s likely we’ll sell out of several other bottlings before they arrive, but those will go the fastest.

Paul Jaboulet Aine Hermitage “La Chapelle”, Rhone 2015 750ML ($319.95) Buy Now: $236

hermitage hillThe 2015 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle has already reached legendary status. Between the wine’s consistently excellent track record and the quality of the 2015 vintage, we knew that this was going to be a wine to pay attention to. Jeb Dunnuck rated the wine a perfect 100 points and it was the highest rated Northern Rhone in Vinous (98 points). All of this is to say that we expect this to remain a coveted wine for decades to come (and for good reason).

The hill of Hermitage is both one of the most famous wine landmarks in the world and also so much more interesting than common lore purports it to be.… Read the rest

Wine of the Day: DuMOL Russian River Valley Syrah 2012 11-19-16

DuMOL Russian River Valley Syrah, Sonoma County 2012 750ML ($69.95) Buy Now: $49 special

dumol-syrah-12There’s a joke that “all the best California Pinot is Syrah.” The idea being that if you want ‘California Pinot’ that’s heavy, rich and bold, you’re better of buying a Syrah from the same producer. DuMOL is known for both grapes and we love their Russian River Valley Syrah. Dark, plummy and rich, it’s got all of the silky texture and powerful aromatics you would want, but it’s ten bucks cheaper. –Saul

Wine Spectator 94 points “Pure, rich and layered, with dense, mocha-laced blackberry, black licorice, dill, anise and cedar notes. The flavors keep unraveling, ending with a long, sustained finish. Best from 2015 through 2028.”… Read the rest

Wine of the Day: Matello Fool’s Journey Syrah 11-09-16

Matello Fool’s Journey Deux Vert Vineyard, Willamette Valley 2012 750ML ($24.95) Buy Now: $21.90 special

Today, while enjoying the fact that I live in Oregon, this wine caught my eye. Matello’s “Fool’s Journey” Syrah comes from the Willamette Valley, so it offers a lighter-toned wine which I find more reasonable than the average over-cooked Syrah. Dark fruit and spice give to a refreshing finish, thanks to a reasonable, not-hot-headed 12.8% alcohol content. From non-irrigated vines planted in 1994, the 90/10 blend of Syrah/Viognier honors its Old World roots. Oregon wines like this express pure common sense. – DanielRead the rest
