Decanter 93 points “Shimmering pale gold with green lights, radiant clarity; persistent tiny bubbles: riot of white flowers scents, hawthorn, then more stone-fruit than citrus, reine claude (greengage) and elderflower. Vibrant mouthfeel, invigorating, expansive – perfect with saline fruits de mer. Perrier Jouët Belle Epoque 2008 reminds me somewhat of the grace of the exceptional 1995, Cellarmaster Hervé Deschamps’ first solo vintage and still one of his best. Though the two vintages 13 years apart share the same grace and class, the 2008 is more mineral, reflecting a quite sunless summer season.… Read the rest

Wine of the Day: Luneau-Papin Terre de Pierre Muscadet 2012 11-4-16

Luneau-Papin Muscadet “Terre de Pierre” 2012 ($29.95) Buy Now: $24 Special

Saul:

Luneau-Papin is one of the two or three best producers of Muscadet. That’s sort of a blessing and a curse. Why a curse? Well, Luneau-Papin is one of the best couple of producers of the greatest white wine value in France.  For quality, profundity and deliciousness, the wines stand toe-to-toe with wines that cost several times as much, and yet somehow, they don’t get the respect that’s accorded even middling producers of white Burgundy. Luneau-Papin Terre de Pierre 2012

That should change, and if you want a wine to help you see the light, we’ve got you covered today.  Luneau-Papin’s Muscadet “Terre de Pierre” 2012 is a masterpiece of a Muscadet, made in a style that marries the minerality and freshness you’d expect from the region with longer aging to provide richness and depth that are uncommon. … Read the rest

Wine of the Day: R. Lopez de Heredia ‘Vina Gravonia’ Crianza Blanco, Rioja DOCa 2006 – 8-29-16

R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia ‘Vina Gravonia‘ Crianza Blanco, Rioja DOCa 2006 750ML ($31.95) Buy Now: $28 special

The wide range of flavors on offer from the ‘Gravonia‘ conjure up thoughts of an open-air market, where fruit and vegetables elbow up against exotic spices and a million different scents waft through the hustling masses. Delicate impressions of tea, sun-soaked lemons, caramel, and peach play off of hints of hay, spring-time flowers, petrol, and almonds; the descriptors of this wine are rivaled only by the vast amount of dishes it’d match.

Gravonia‘ comes from 100% Viura; you may otherwise know the grape as Macabeo. The wine is aged for four years in mature oak barrels and racked twice yearly, later resting in the bottle before release.… Read the rest

Is white Bordeaux having a moment? If not, it should be! The 2013 from Chateau Auney is nothing short of divine. Melon, minerals, and honey make for a near-perfect wine; aromas of vanilla and exotic fruits invite the drinker into a balanced and complex mêlée of soft and assertive elements. It’s a practice of opposites, of harmony, and of elegance. – TylerRead the rest

Wine of the Day: Goodfellow Clover Pinot Gris 2014 5-22-2016

Goodfellow Clover Pinot Gris Reserve, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($21.95) Buy Now: $18 special

Goodfellow Clover Pinot GrisFloral and elegant, it’s a great starter to a meal or aperitif-style wine. Clover is derived from the highest point of the Whistling Ridge and Bishop Creek vineyards and is fermented in neutral wood before aging for 15-17 months on its lees. A contrast of toasted hazelnut plays against the floral elements nicely, with a clean and lasting finish. A beautiful presentation of what Oregon winemakers are capable of! – Tyler

Winery note “Pinot Gris in the style of white Burgundy, from the older vines at the highest point of the Whistling Ridge and Bishop Creek Vineyards (both vineyards are dry farmed). Fermented in neutral wood (30% Acacia, 70% French oak), then aged for 15-17 months on the lees.”… Read the rest
