Westrey Wine Co. is a core classic producer in the Dundee Hills. Farmers, first and foremost, Amy Wesselman and David Autrey founded Westrey in 1993. Their estate vineyard, Oracle, was originally planted in 1977 and revived, quite literally, by Amy and David after they purchased the property in 2000.
 
We wouldn’t be surprised if you weren’t familiar with the wines. Admired in the industry, they’re not bombastic enough to chase points or the ephemeral fame of trendy styles.
 
Instead, they live, breathe, and farm their time-tested values. They prize sustainability, sourcing exclusively organic or LIVE-certified vineyards. Their fruit is all dry-farmed, too, because they believe it produces “better wines and respects the scarcity of water.”

Wine lovers adore the Champagne region in France. Its most famous styles among collectors are its 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs from Pinot Noir, and Brut blends, but have you tasted the rollercoaster of flavor offered by the humble Pinot Meunier?
 
This red variety was long derided as a minor blending grape. It grows best on the sand- and clay-heavy soils of vineyards of the Marne Valley. These have long been looked down upon for their ill-suitedness for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as their apparent lack of chalk in the soil (the horror!).

Traditionally farmed and crafted Barolos are what insiders have sought out for decades, but sometimes it can be hard for the hard-working, farm-forward producers to make a splash on the international stage. Until recently, one such producer, Brovia, flew under the radar. With a string of recent vintages awash in points and praise, a broader category of wine buyers has begun to take notice.
 
Brovia’s cuvees have it all: perfectionist vineyard management (organic without certification, careful pruning, and hand harvesting), superb and distinctive holdings (such as Villero in the Serralunga), unapologetically old-school winemaking (long and slow fermentation and long aging in large barrels and, subsequently, in bottle), consistently excellent releases, and enthusiastic purchasing by our staff.
