Saint Cosme
Saint Cosme somehow combines affordability, luxury, and over 600 years of history into some of the most remarkable wines in the Southern Rhône. Considered a benchmark in its home town of Gigondas, Saint Cosme is a historical gem, founded in some time before 1416. Louis Barroul heads the estate as the 14th generation of his family to do so. Professionals and reviewers consider him one of the region’s greatest winemakers who offers consistently excellent quality and value across the entire portfolio.
Barroul crafts rich and powerful wines with undeniable terroir signatures. To highlight these varying terroirs, the estate bottles a handful of single-vineyard Gigondas, which are the most interesting and coveted wines in the portfolio. It’s no wonder that Saint Cosme has been our most popular Rhône producer for some time, and we’re always thrilled to feature their wines.
Now is the chance to snag a great deal on your daily drivers and cellar treasures or take the first test drive of our offerings during our three-day sale!

Saint Cosme ‘Micro-Cosme’ Sauvignon – Viognier, Vin de France 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $14, that’s $13.30 at 5% off and $12.60 at 10% off, 33 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 88 points “Based largely on Sauvignon Blanc with a smaller amount of Viognier, the 2022 Micro-Cosme Sauvignon Blanc And Viognier has plenty of citrus and green apple notes as well as some honeyed floral nuances. It’s medium-bodied, juicy, and easygoing on the palate and as gulpable as they come.”

Château de Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône Hominis Fides Blanc 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 20 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “Limestone sand from the Miocene sea, in the ‘Hominis Fides’ named vineyard. Fermentation in used casks and ageing on fine lees for 10 months. Gunflint, anise, pear and quince. The young massal selection vines in Hominis Fides are growing, developing, putting down deep roots and producing beautiful fruit. Every year, we can see the identity of the vineyard asserting itself and differentiating itself from Le Poste. It is true that the Miocene sea sand offers a truly remarkable foundation both for Grenache and Clairette. We prune the vines as bush vines and lift them on stakes so that we never have to top the shoots in spring. I am against the use of topping in a Mediterranean climate – it makes no sense to use this mini-pruning technique and force vines to grow secondary buds just when they need their fruit to flower.”
Saint Cosme Condrieu 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 26 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 94 points “Hefty, modern and lush, with an enticing cascade of creamed pear, mango and papaya flavors cut through with dried herbs and chamomile, backed by a refreshing kick of bitter quinine. A brioche accent adds warmth, but the vein of tangy acidity keeps this clean. Drink now through 2027. 90 cases imported.”

Château de Rouanne Vinsobres ‘Guerin’ 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 92 points “The Grenache-dominated single vineyard 2019 Vinsobres Lieu-Dit Guerin is brilliant as well. Concentrated, medium to full-bodied, and opulent, it has lots of red and black fruits, plenty of peppery herbs and meaty nuances, terrific balance, and outstanding length. It’s another gorgeous wine from this talented winemaker, and this is an estate to watch.”

Château de Rouanne Vinsobres ‘Rouanne et Les Crottes’ 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $64.50, that’s $61.28 at 5% off and $58.05 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 93 points “Rich and well-built, this offers up a serious dark core of black currant and plum reduction flavors supported by graphite, humus and cast iron notes, with sweet bay leaf, violet and tobacco notes filling in the background. A wine with a smoldering intensity. Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2023 through 2032. 350 cases made, 200 cases imported. — JM”

Château de Rouanne Vinsobres ‘Les Cotes’ 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 22 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 94 points “My favorite in the lineup (although these are all brilliant) is the 2020 Vinsobres Rouanne Et Les Crottes, which comes from the middle of the hillside vineyard and more clay and iron soils. Lots of darker, almost blue fruits, violets, smoked herbs, and iron nuances define the bouquet, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has ultra-fine tannins, and offers a beautiful mix of both richness and elegance.”

Château de Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône Les Deux Albion 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 35 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 92 points “Textured, layered and focused. It expresses notes of dark berries, roasted meat, warm spices, bay leaves and some dried thyme. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Plenty of energy, focus and structure. More compact toward the finish. From organically grown grapes. Try after 2025.”

Saint Cosme Crozes-Hermitage 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $33.50, that’s $31.83 at 5% off and $30.15 at 10% off, 26 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 92 points “Fresh, earthy and inviting, with tasty red currant and violet perfume melded with smoked bacon fat, tobacco, turmeric and forest floor freshness. Reveals hints of iodine and singed alder on the snappy, medium-length close. Drink now through 2038. 268 cases imported.”

Saint Cosme Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $54.50, that’s $51.78 at 5% off and $49.05 at 10% off, 24 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 93 points “Modern and stylish, offering an engaging mix of raspberry puree, warm baking spices and red licorice, with vanilla highlights. A beam of iron minerality brings shape and balance to this version, while invigorating acidity and tannins drive the energy. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Drink now through 2035. —J.M.”

Saint Cosme Côte Rôtie 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 93-95 points “The 2022 Côte Rôtie is flat-out gorgeous and a wine to seek out. Ripe black raspberries, blackberries, pepper, graphite, and smoke meat all define this medium to full-bodied 2022, which has velvety tannins and a great mid-palate. It’s a blockbuster of a Côte Rôtie that will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age. While Gigondas’s Louis Barruol is well known for his reference point Gigondas releases, his terrific Northern Rhône releases are, unfortunately, less well known. As with his Southern Rhônes, Louis likes lots of stems and used barrels, and these wines all have classic profiles.”

Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas 2020 1.5L Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 17 magnums in stock now
Wine Spectator 94 points “This has a beautiful texture, harmoniously blending plum sauce, raspberry preserves, charred alder and floral perfume with an invigorating, fresh dusting of white pepper and crushed dried herbs. Delivers an intense undercurrent of mineral, incense and lavender notes that course through the finish, which goes on and on. Delicious. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Drink now through 2035. —J.M.”
Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas Le Claux Rouge 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off and $107.10 at 10% off, 24 bottles in stock now
Josh Raynolds-Vinous 98 points “Opaque red. Sharply defined red fruit, floral and Moroccan spice aromas, along with intense mineral, garrigue and cola nuances. Shows superb depth as well as vivacity on the palate, offering juicy red and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors and an exotic hint of blood orange. Finishes impressively long and precise with firm tension, discreet tannins and reverberating red fruit and floral notes.”

Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas Le Claux Rouge 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $108, that’s $102.60 at 5% off and $97.20 at 10% off, 36+ bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 94-96 points “More kirsch liqueur, graphite, ground pepper, and garrigue notes emerge from the 2022 Gigondas Le Claux, a more full-bodied Gigondas offering a deep, layered mouthfeel, impressive concentration, and building tannins. The cellar will be your friend here.”

Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas Hominis Fides Rouge 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $108, that’s $102.60 at 5% off and $97.20 at 10% off, 28 bottles in stock now
Nicolas Greinacher-Vinous 96 points “The 2022 Gigondas Hominis Fides is an intricate elixir, bursting with ripe black fruits, blueberries, rose water, dried herbs and a bite of forest strawberry. The full-bodied and firmly structured Hominis Fides retains impressive freshness and boasts stunning verticality on its seamless palate. This is a truly stunning 2022 crafted to stand the test of time.”
Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas Le Poste Rouge 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $125, that’s $118.75 at 5% off and $112.50 at 10% off, 24 bottles in stock now
Nicolas Greinacher-Vinous 95-97 points “Deep magenta. Expansive, spice- and mineral-tinged black raspberry, kirsch and boysenberry aromas are complicated by suggestions of incense, lavender and smoky minerals. Alluringly sweet and focused in the mouth, offering densely packed red and blue fruit preserve, floral pastille and exotic spice flavors that smoothly balance weight and finesse. This wine shows superb finishing clarity and mineral lift on the penetrating and impressively long finish, which features polished tannins and resonating fruit, floral and mineral notes.”

Montepeloso
The coastal village of Suvereto resides in one of the warmer micro-climates on the Tuscan coast just south of Bolgheri. Despite its long winemaking and farming history going back as far as 1000 AD, the Suvereto DOC was only officially recognized in 2000. Set in the fertile Val di Cornia, clay soils and proximity to the sea give intensity to the flavors, producing ripe and direct wines typically made from Cabernet, Merlot and Sangiovese.
In 1998, Fabio Chiarelotto purchased the Montepeloso estate. Though the vineyard was already well-renowned, Chiarelotto envisioned even greater potential. Retraining, pruning, and even re-grafting many vines, Fabio was committed to perfection, pulling up thousands of low-quality vines and replacing them with varieties more suited to the windy warmth of Suvereto.
We’re featuring three wines from their collection: Gabbro, Eneo, and Nardo. Gabbro is composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and rivals plenty of Super Tuscans with its Italian signatures. Eneo includes many local and rare varieties such as Montepulciano (an indigenous Italian grape), Alicante Bouschet (a dark-red grape cultivated from Grenache and Petit Bouschet), and Marselan (a French cross of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache). Lastly, Nardo (Tuscan for lavender) is the crown jewel, a blend of the estate’s oldest and finest vines of indigenous Italian varieties.
Chairelotto has found a mix of varieties that he feels express the spirit of Suvereto and Montepeloso, and the results reflect his unending quest for perfection.

Montepeloso Eneo Toscana IGT 2021 750ml $49 special, 14 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95 points “The 2021 Eneo is superb. Bright and effusive, with tons of explosive energy, the 2021 is shaping up to be a gem. Crushed flowers, blood orange, cinnamon, cedar and spice are all finely delineated in an Eneo that exudes balance. Clean mineral notes extend the finish effortlessly. I very much admire the vibrancy here, something that is hard to achieve in this district of Suvereto.”

Montepeloso Gabbro Toscana IGT 2020 750ml $89 special, 3 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 95 points “A rich and juicy red with plum and chocolate character. Some fresh sage, too. It’s full and layered, but remains bright and vivid. Hints of herbs and dark fruit at the end, as well as soil. Drinkable now, but even better in three or four years.”
Montepeloso Nardo Toscana IGT 2021 750ml $89 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 97 points “The 2021 Nardo is elegant, finessed and classy to the core. White pepper, chalk, mint, blood orange, dried flowers and cedar give the 2021 striking aromatic presence and energy. I don’t remember a Nardo with much translucent energy. Readers will want to cellar this for at least a few years.”
