Campania

Campania, one of Italy’s oldest wine regions, has been famous for its wines for thousands of years. Located near Naples, there are numerous references to the quality of the wines in Roman writings. Yet despite its history, lauded grape varieties, and world-class wines, it is considered an obscure region today.

Campania’s crown jewel is the indigenous red wine grape Aglianico. It is a thick-skinned red variety that creates full-bodied wines with rich tannins, ample acidity, and plenty of aging potential – a bit like Cabernet Sauvignon. The DOCG region of Taurasi, a subregion of Campania, it’s the place to look for the best examples.

Turley Zinfandel: Old Vines and California Heritage

On Sale Now!

Turley Wine Cellars

Few wineries in California have shaped the modern understanding of Zinfandel as profoundly as Turley Wine Cellars. Founded in the early 1990s by Larry Turley, the estate began with a simple but radical idea: preserve California’s oldest vineyards and allow them to speak clearly, without cosmetic winemaking. At a time when many historic Zinfandel plantings were being pulled out or replanted, Turley committed to rescuing and farming these sites, setting the stage for one of the most distinctive portfolios in American wine.

Larry Turley’s path to wine was anything but conventional. A former emergency room physician, he brought an analytical mind and deep sense of purpose to viticulture, focusing on dry-farmed, head-trained vines, many of them planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
