Viñedos de Páganos’ El Puntido Gran Reserva:

A Monumental Rioja

“Established in 1998 as a micro-project of the Eguren family’s Viñedos Sierra Cantabria, this bodega produces single-site wines from two vineyards, El Puntido and La Nieta, which are in the tiny village of Páganos. This is clearly a labor of love as the vineyards, mostly old Tempranillo, are impeccably maintained. Readers who appreciate more subtle oak influence might not be impressed with the wines when they are young, but I have found that patience yields great rewards when it comes to bringing things into harmony.” -Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 97 points
“The 2013 El Puntido Gran Reserva started very shy and closed; it took time to open up to slowly unfurl the more tertiary notes, despite its youth.

Volnay Sale
Collector’s Corner: Priorat

“Often compared to the muscley Pinot Noirs of its neighbor Pommard, Volnay produces smooth-structured, perfumed wines of surprising longevity – the archetypal “iron fist in a velvet glove”.” – Wine Searcher

Luxury is Calling, Will You Answer?

Volnay

In the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy lies a village adored for its elegant Pinot Noirs: Volnay. While its sister-village, Pommard, turns heads with its muscle and punch, the seductive wines of Volnay are beguiling for their silky-smoothness and age-ability. Enchanting, entrancing, and hypnotically delicious, we love these wines for their whisper-light touch.

Though no Grand Cru vineyards are found with the village, you’ll be more than impressed by the Premier Cru vineyards, which cover more than half of the vineyard acreage.

Icon of Port

Kopke

Some of the world’s oldest wineries are still quietly making some of the most profound wines for their region. These estates have been loved and sought-after for generations. Think of Saint Cosme in Gigondas, Schloss Gobelsburg in the Kamptal region of Austria, Ricasoli and Antinori in Tuscany, and Kopke in Port.

Kopke, founded in 1638, makes what might be the most vibrant and long-lived port wines available. They have been through adverse times in their nearly 400-year history, seeing dramatic shifts in the climate, swings in the popularity of their product, and the rise and fall of populist dictators. Through all of this, they’ve been consistent in their commitment to making the greatest Tawny and Colheita (vintage Tawny) Port available.
