Cecile-Tremblay (Arriving in Late March)

Emerging onto the wine scene in 2003, the wines of Cecile-Tremblay have been exploding in popularity ever since. With family ties back to that of the legendary Henri Jayer, this family has been slowing reclaiming prized plots of the Cote de Nuits that we’re formerly leased as as sharecrops for other producers. These wines are special and now head for cult status like Fourrier and Dujac, so don’t expect great deals like those listed below for long!

Domaine Cecile Tremblay Les Feusselottes, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2019 750ml $999 special, 7 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 95 points
“The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Feusselottes has also turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with a complex bouquet of raspberries and blackberries mingled with hints of orange rind, violets and exotic spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it’s deep and fleshy, with a layered core of fruit, lively acids and remarkable structural finesse for such a young, undeniably concentrated wine. This might well be the finest Feusselottes that Tremblay has produced to date.”

Domaine Cecile Tremblay Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 750ml $1999 special, 6 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 99 points “Is the 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru the finest wine that Cécile Tremblay has produced to date? I thought so when I tasted it in barrel, and that impression has only been confirmed on the two occasions I have tasted it from bottle. Offering up a deep bouquet of raspberries and cherries mingled with exotic spices, rose petals, raw cocoa and a beautifully integrated framing of new oak, it’s full-bodied, seamless and complete, with all the depth and power of a vintage such as 2015, combined with the suave elegance and charm of a more giving vintage such as 2017. Perfumed and expansive, this impeccably balanced red Burgundy is one of the wines of the vintage and worth every and any effort to taste!”

Producer tasting notes:
“Dark ruby red in colour with red fruit aromas and roasted, smoky notes on the nose. The palate is rich and oily with good structure and a perfect balance between finesse and strength. The silky tannins give this wine a harmonious mouthfeel.”

Domaine Faiveley Les Porets-Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 750ml $119 special, 12 bottles arriving
Wine Spectator 92 points “Aromas of spearmint and cinnamon accent the core flavors of black cherry and blackberry in this firm red, which is more linear on the finish, where dark fruit mingles with oak spice and mineral elements”

Domaine Faiveley Les Damodes, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 750ml $119 special, 18 bottles arriving
Wine Advocate 92-94 points
“Aromas of cassis, plums, orange rind and spicy new oak preface Faiveley’s 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes, a medium to full-bodied, deep and lively wine with a concentrated core of fruit, framed by powdery tannins. Concluding with a long, mineral finish, it’s another fine bottling from this cool, high-altitude and northeast-exposed site.”

Domaine Faiveley Aux Beaux Bruns, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2019 750ml $179 special, 18 bottles arriving
James Suckling 94 points
“An unusually firm and structured wine that breaks the mold for this village, usually associated with finesse and delicacy. Deep forest-berry aromas, but also savory and earthy notes. Imposing body that’s brimming with healthy tannins. Bright, mineral finish with excellent complexity.”

Domaine Faiveley Les Charmes, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2019 750ml $199 special, 6 bottles arriving
Wine Spectator 95 points
“A ripe red, with macerated cherry, black currant, sandalwood, vanilla and stone flavors carried by a vibrant structure. Linear and fused to finely grained tannins as it lingers on the spice- and mineral-tinged finish. Fine energy here”
James Suckling 95 points

Domaine Faiveley Les Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 1.5L $499 special, 3 bottles arriving
Vinous 93-95 points
“The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru is an equal blend from Faiveley’s own vines and contract growers, plus a barrel from the Hospices de Nuits. It has a very perfumed and floral bouquet of red berry fruit complemented by wilted violets and potpourri. The medium-bodied palate offers crunchy red berry fruit laced with balsamic. Quite energetic and well defined toward the harmonious finish, which leaves a tang of white pepper on the aftertaste. This is a superb Les Saint-Georges.”
Wine Advocate 92-94+ points “A mixture of domaine and purchased grapes that are vinified together, Faiveley’s 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges wafts from the glass with notes of sweet berries, plums, espresso roast, dark chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and gourmand, it’s sumptuous and charming, with lively acids and a ripe, enveloping core of fruit.”

Domaine Faiveley Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits 2019 3L $1199 special, 1 bottle arriving
Vinous 93-95 points
“The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru comes from Faiveley’s 1.27-hectare parcel. It has a floral nose with potpourri and light lavender aromas that partially occlude the fruit expression. The palate is lithe on the entry with modest depth and quite tertiary in style, and a keen thread of acidity lends freshness on the finish. A little austere in style, it opens with aeration to offer a very minerally finish. Here, it put the Echézeaux 2019 in its place.”
Wine Advocate 93-95 points “Aromas of cherries, wild berries, incense and loamy soil, framed by a deft touch of spicy new oak, introduce the 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered wine that’s elegantly muscular, with terrific depth and concentration. Long and penetrating, this is a fine longer-haul proposition from Faiveley.”

Domaine Faiveley Chambertin-Clos de Beze Les Ouvrees Rodin Grand Cru 2019 750ml $1699 special, 6 bottles arriving
Producer tasting notes
: “Deep ruby red hue with purplish glimmers. The complex nose offers a combination of fruit, spice and floral notes. The lively palate displays exceptional tension, elegant tannins, a hint of white pepper and menthol notes. Les Ouvrées Rodin is an intense, deep, smooth, elegant and subtle wine and a perfect reflection the character of its historical terroir.”

CUNE & CVNE

The story of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (or CVNE) commonly known as “Cune” begins in 1879 when two brothers, Eusebio and Raimundo founded the company in the Rioja region of northern Spain. The brothers were experienced in the wine industry,
having previously worked at wineries in Bordeaux, France.

In the following decades, CVNE experienced significant growth and success. In the 1920s, the company began exporting its wines to other countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States. During this time, CVNE also acquired several other wineries in the Rioja region, including Viña Real and Contino.

In the 1960s, CVNE began to modernize its winemaking techniques, introducing stainless steel tanks and temperature control systems to improve the quality and consistency of its wines. The company also expanded its vineyards, planting new grape varieties and experimenting with new winemaking techniques.

All these years later, CVNE is still a family-owned winery, with the fifth generation of the family now involved in the business. The company is known for its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and its focus on producing high-quality Rioja wines. CVNE has won numerous awards and accolades over the years, cementing its position as one of the top wineries in Spain.

Please join us in celebrating the great wines of CVNE!

CVNE Vina Real Crianza 2017 750ml  $14.50 special, 5 bottles in stock
James Suckling 93 points
“A Rioja with plum, blackberry, black truffle and hints of chocolate. Some walnut, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish.”

CVNE Contino Reserva 2016 750ml  $44.50 special, 5 bottles in stock
James Suckling 97 points
“This is so powerful and tightly wound with so much intensity and power. Full body. Crushed berries and hints of walnuts and cedar. Purity in fruit. Very subtle character, but great tension and richness. Drink after 2021.”

CVNE Contino Blanco 2017 750ml $49 special, 11 bottles in stock
Vinous 92 points “
Limpid yellow. Vibrant Anjou pear and tangerine aromas show very good clarity and pick up suggestions of buttered toast, honey and chamomile with air. Juicy and broad on the palate, offering ripe citrus and orchard fruit flavors that slowly tighten up and take on a floral nuance with aeration. A vanilla flourish sweetens the finish, which hangs on with strong, spicy tenacity.”

CVNE Contino Gran Reserva 2016 750ml $59 special, 16 bottles in stock
Wine Spectator 91 points
“A graceful red, well-defined by sleek, taut tannins and bright citrus peel acidity, this is tightly meshed at first but notes of black raspberry, cherry reduction, eucalyptus, graphite and anise unfurl on the palate and linger on the finish. Tempranillo, Graciano, Grenache and Viura. Drink now through 2030.”

CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva 2015 750ml $79 special, 23 bottles in stock
James Suckling 97 points
“This is very ripe with blackberries, dried fruit, toasted oak and black licorice on the nose. Full-bodied with ultra-fine, linear tannins and a racy, refined finish. This has fantastic structure and length. It goes on for minutes. It needs time to open and refine even more. One of the best Imperiale Gran Reservas in a very long time. Drink after 2023.

CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva 2014 750ml $84.50 special, 9 bottles in stock
Vinous 94 points
“Shimmering ruby-red. An intensely perfumed nose displays cherry cola, cassis, licorice and smoky oak; floral and vanilla qualities emerge in the glass. Juicy, penetrating red and dark fruit flavors are given spine by a core of tangy acidity, and bitter chocolate, candied rose and spicecake nuances develop with air. Gently gripping tannins add shape to an impressively long, incisive finish that leaves more vanilla and cherry notes behind. Raised for 22 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels.”

3 Day Sale:

Domaine Pierre Usseglio!

5% off 6-11 bottles of Domaine Usseglio

10% off 12+ bottles of Domaine Usseglio

SALE ENDS FRIDAY at 10AM!!!

In 1948, this historic winery was founded by a recently emmigrated family of Italians in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region of France’s southern Rhône region. Despite their new kid status, the Usseglio family has always been known for its commitment to traditional Rhone winemaking methods, such as hand-harvesting, fermentation with native yeasts, and aging in large oak barrels. Still family owned, they utilize vines up to a century old and are now proudly organic and certified biodynamic.

These wines are of a traditional style with bold flavors and great aging potential and while the family has branched out into various regions outside the Rhone, we are offering a sale on the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines that put them on the map.

Domaine Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Cuvee Girard 2020 $39 special, 26 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 92-94 points “The 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape—tasted at the winery from a prospective blend prior to bottling—incorporated around 15% to 18% whole clusters. The 80% Grenache aged in concrete, while the Mourvèdre and Syrah matured in older barrels. It’s a really attractive effort, with bright raspberries and mouthwatering strawberries on the nose, ample weight and a silky-textured palate and a lingering, mouthwatering finish. Balanced and harmonious, it should drink well young, yet be capable of aging well for more than a decade.”

Domaine Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Cuvee Girard 2019 $39 special, 14 bottles in stock
Jeb Dunnick 94 points
“Quite different than the base cuvée (which isn’t always the case), the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Girard is a special blend that usually includes more Mourvèdre. Lots of red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, and spice dominate the bouquet, and this beauty is medium to full-bodied and brings lots of fruit and richness, yet it stays balanced, light on its feet, and a joy to drink. Drink it over the coming 15+ years.”

Domaine Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Imperiale 2020 $69 special, 29 bottles in stock

Domaine Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Imperiale 2019 $79 special, 13 bottles in stock
James Suckling 96 points
“Deep, spicy and fragrant, this is a very concentrated and elegant Chateauneuf-du-Pape with remarkably fine tannins and floral delicacy alongside its earthy primacy. Mainly produced from grenache vines planted in 1901 and 1902. From Demeter-certified biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”

Long Shadows Pedestal Merlot 2018 1.5L $135 special, only 3 in stock
Vinous 96 points
“Long Shadows has crafted a beautiful new Right Bank style 2018 Merlot Pedestal, which is nearly all Merlot (82%) with smaller portions of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Once on the nose this shows an intoxicating bouquet of black currant jelly, espresso bean and shades of black licorice candy. The mouthfeel captured here is exquisite as the Merlot seamlessly glides across the mid-palate delivering a decadent core of dark fruits, black licorice, black peppercorn and espresso ground tones.”

Long Shadows Sequel Syrah 2018 1.5L $128 special, only 3 in stock
Vinous 95 points
“The 2018 Syrah Sequel is one of the greatest editions of this wine that I have tasted. The downright soft texture entices as toasty oak wraps around a gorgeous core of creme de violette, mocha, allspice, bull’s blood and shades of creosote on the palate. This finishes exceedingly long. A dense and refined Syrah that is only starting to fully hit its stride.”

Long Shadows Pirouette Red 2018 1.5L $135 special, only 2 in stock
Vious 95 Points
“The 2018 Red Wine Pirouette blends 68% Cabernet Sauvignon with 22% Stone Tree Vineyard Merlot, and 10% Dionysus Vineyard Petit Verdot. The wine was aged 22 months in 85% new French oak prior to bottling. Aromatically beautiful, you are greeted to black rose petals and blackberry compote tones that mingle with wintergreen and chocolate covered espresso bean accents. Deep and concentrated in the mouth, with fantastic flavor density and tension, this finishes long with black fruits, loamy soils and minerals. Enjoy this texturally-beautiful Left Bank inspired Washington wine over the next twenty years to come.”

Gaja Sori San Lorenzo Langhe-Barbaresco 2017 750ml $599 special, 3 bottles in stock
Wine Spectator 96 points
“This tightly wound red is dense with black cherry, black currant, plum, tar and iron flavors as well as tannins. Shows a lot of power and persistence, with all the components in the right proportion, ending with a long, resonant aftertaste… Best from 2024 through 2048.”

Ulysse Collin ‘Le Jardin d’Ulysse’ 2016 750ml $749 special, 2 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 96+ points
“Based on the 2016 vintage, complemented by 10% reserve wines and disgorged this year after 60 months on the lees, Collin’s NV Extra-Brut Les Jardin d’Ulysse (2016) represents the second iteration of this new cuvée. Unwinding in the glass with notions of citrus oil, crisp green apple, mirabelle plum, pastry cream and nutmeg, it’s medium to full-bodied, racy and tightly wound, with terrific concentration and chalky structure, girdled by incisive acids, concluding with a long, penetrating finish.”

Chateau Angelus Saint-Emilion 2016 750ml $899 special, 19 bottles in stock
Wine Enthusiast – TOP 100 CELLAR SELECTION OF 2019- 100 points ” This is a rich, perfumed wine, with dense tannins and intense layers of black plum and spice. The palate is firmly built yet broadened out by plump dark-fruit tones and honed by a solid, dry core.”

Dominio de Pingus ‘Pingus’ 2019 750ml $1119 special, 3 bottles in stock
Wine Advocate 99 points
“…They really outdid themselves here and produced an amazingly fresh, aromatic and harmonious wine in a warm vintage. It’s incredibly textured, with refined, very fine-grained and chalky tannins … It gets more floral with time in the glass, getting nuanced and really interesting. It delivers what the barrel sample promised one year ago, when the wine already surprised me. I think the word that best describes this wine is precision—it’s clean, focused, balanced and delineated. Bravo!”
