France- Chablis

Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Montmains Chablis Premier Cru 2015 750ML ($49.95) $39 pre-arrival special

Neal Martin-Vinous 91 points “The 2015 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru is showing more oakiness on the nose than its peers, though the oak is neatly entwined with the tropical-tinged fruit. The palate has the fatness and weight you anticipate from a 2015 Chablis, if perhaps a little less acidity compared to other Montmains. A touch of orange zest and mandarin furnishes the satisfying finish. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.”

Burghound 90 points “This too reflects notes of mineral reduction along with pretty pear, floral and iodine scents. There is good intensity to the more refined if less mineral-driven flavors that are rich, generous and delicious while offering fine depth and length on the balanced finale.… Read the rest

Priorat or Tarraconensis as it was once called has cultivated winegrapes since the Roman Empire first occupied the area, but it was Clos Erasmus and their collegues who transformed Priorat from sleepy backwater to a global wine powerhouse in the 1980’s and 90’s.

Chateau Musar’s Journey

Looking for a cult producer that’s still affordable? There are very few producers who are synonymous with the production of their entire region’s output. Dal Forno in Valpolicella, Dönnhoff and the Nahe, Cayuse and Walla Walla, the list is as long as there are production zones. In that same vein you cannot talk about Lebanese wine without mentioning Chateau Musar.
