“Impeccably structured yet sleekly elegant, with raspberry and blueberry flavors accented by savory tea, stony mineral and dusky spice notes as this gathers tension toward fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2033.”

“A richer red hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Zephine Roserock is also more floral and has some savory elements, but it also has a more pronounced dark stone mineral tone, with violets, black raspberries, tea leaf, and toasted spices.

Léoville Poyferré Sale!

Buy Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2019 wine online | Millesima

I think the longer I’ve known wine the more I appreciate Bordeaux. What I had conjured in my mind as a snobbish high-priced region of basic blends has slowly revealed itself to be a sanctuary of incredibly diverse and delicious wines. Better yet, these wines age better than perhaps any other dry wines on the planet, making for an exciting journey of opening older bottles and tracking the progression of vintages across time from my cellar.

While there are many Château which deserve your attention and could fill a lifetime of fine drinking, part of the beauty of this region is one’s own odyssey into finding the estates that capture your admiration and consisently dazzle your personal taste. For me Leoville Poyferré is such a wine.

(It’s A Mouthful You’ll Love)

With broad holdings across of some of finest vineyards in the Mosel, Molitor crafts dozens of highly lauded Rieslings each vintage. He believes that every single sub-parcel and selective pick should be vinified to its utmost potential. The result is a deeply rewarding if sprawling portfolio.

An excellent way to explore this incredible portfolio is by focusing on the bone-dry Rieslings, known as “Trocken” in German. These contain no (or no perceptible) residual sugar. Molitor indicates the sweetness level by capsule color, and dry is white. This style is food-friendly yet also enjoyable as an aperitif.

Elvio Cogno

Elvio Cogno saw the unrivaled potential of the Ravera cru long before it became a hallowed name among Barolo insiders.

Born and raised in Novello, the village where one finds the famous vineyard, Cogno comes from a long line of grape growers in the region. He was the first in his family to turn the dream of winemaking into a reality. For years, he collaborated with Marcarini (including crafting the legendary 1964 vintage from the Brunate vineyard, one of the first Barolos released as a single vineyard).

In 1990, he purchased Cascina Nuova, an under-performing but historic estate in Novello, and started making classically-styled wines under his own name from the Ravera cru.

Alsace is easily appreciated and far too often overlooked. To be certain, there are die-hard fans of the dry and often powerfully aromatic wines. But the casual wine drinker might only explore the pleasant, entry-level field blends. Now it the time to expand your wine horizons.

The first step to appreciating Alsatian wines is understanding the unique climate and soils of the region. The area is typically quite dry and warm due to the sheltering influence of the Vosges. This leads to a concentration and power to the wines that should appeal to many new-world, white wine lovers.

Aside from that initial aromatic wow factor, the wines hold layers of complexity, especially from Grand Cru vineyards.
