The Eyrie Vineyards & Goodfellow Family Cellars

Two Greats of the Willamette Valley

The Eyrie Vineyards:

The Eyrie Vineyards is the original winery of the Dundee Hills. Founded by David Lett in 1965. David selected his location after careful consideration, wanting to prove that cool-climate European varieties could thrive in the United States. He planted the first Pinot Noir vines in the Willamette Valley, a prophetic selection.

In 2005, his soft-spoken yet brilliant son, Jason Lett, took over as winemaker and vineyard manager. He explored new varieties, such as Trousseau, without compromising on quality. The winery produces about the same volume it always has, around 9,000 cases annually, keeping the focus on craft and quality. We adore these wines. They are precious beyond measure, a reflection of the Letts’ foresight, knowledge, and hard work.

Goodfellow Family Cellars:

Marcus Goodfellow and Megan Joy of Goodfellow Family Cellars are two of the most talented winemakers in Oregon. Their wines showcase their microscopic understanding of the potential in the terroirs of the Willamette Valley. Together, they craft wines that continually improve—both in the cellar and vintage to vintage. We love the wines for their coiled power and Burgundian structure, and we stack them enthusiastically & abundantly in our own personal cellars to adore for decades to come.

Most recently, the pair have branched into the sparkling wine space. Their new range reflects their deep love and admiration for precise and mineral Grower Champagnes. The sparkling wines are all multi-vintage with significant portions of reserve wines that aged on the lees for up to almost three years. These are terroir-driven works of art from two of the Valley’s finest winemakers.

Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 92 points
“The 2022 Chardonnay Estate has inviting aromas of dried apples, mixed nuts, beeswax and spicy undertones. The medium-bodied palate offers surprisingly concentrated, savory flavors. Its luxurious, mouth-coating texture is balanced by mouthwatering acidity, and it has a long, flavorful finish.”

Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points
“The 2019 Melon de Bourgogne is honeyed and floral, revealing an entrancing blend of raw almonds, pine nuts, basil and crushed green apples. It opens with a lovely inner sweetness, contrasted by sizzling acidity as ripe orchard fruits and minty herbal tones swirl throughout. Medium in length, this finishes remarkably fresh and lifted, with a note of lemony custard.”

Wine Enthusiast 95 points
“This blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Trousseau is the poster child for balance. The show starts with blackberry and thyme aromas, along with notes of earth and citrus. The Trifolium’s zingy acidity and optimal tannic structure support flavors like black cherry, cocoa nibs and a nice pot roast. Best trio since Rush. “

The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 30 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 94+ points
“The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate lifts from the glass with a mentholated freshness, giving way to dried roses and strawberries. Silky and enveloping, it possesses a core of vividly ripe wild berries and sweet herbal tones that resonate over a tactile staining of saline minerals. Grippy tannins saturate through the long, spicy finish as repleting inner florals and bitter hints of licorice fade.”

The Eyrie Vineyards ‘Sisters Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $59, that’s $56.05 at 5% off and $53.10 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 94 points
“The 2021 Pinot Noir Sisters blossoms in the glass with woodland berries and herbs complicated by allspice and clove. The palate is round and supple with cooling acidity and ripe wild berries cascading throughout, leaving a sweet spice tinge toward the close. This finishes with remarkable freshness, a gentle sour citrus twang, and slowly fading hints of red plum. The 2021 is already showing beautifully, but there’s the balance to excel over the next five to seven years of cellaring. (Drink between 2025-2035).”

“Peach blossoms, wild strawberries, star fruit, green melon, light florals. This is very pretty in the nose, light bodied with plenty of flavor, and brightly refreshing to drink. The bottle disappears quickly. Perfect for sunny days watching the hummingbirds, grilling chicken, and sushi. 82% direct press from the blanc de noir program and 18% saignee from100% whole cluster ferments of Whistling Ridge and Durant. 12.3% abv and 266 cases produced.”

Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points
“Dusty florals and spices give way to yellow apples and hints of iodine as the NV Extra Brut evolves in the glass. Soothingly round and textured, it sweeps across the palate with ripe orchard fruits and a bead of creamy bubbles. This finishes remarkably clean and pure, leaving a resonance of ripe Anjou pear to linger on. The balance here is unreal. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Tsai Vineyard Blanc de Noirs, Yamhill-Carlton NV 750ml Displayed Price: $54.50, that’s $51.78 at 5% off and $49.05 at 10% off, 16 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“So delicious. This wine was originally supposed to be a component of the Willamette Valley Extra-Brut, but from the earliest days in barrel it had an extraordinary energy and vibrancy. Raised in two 820L Acacia foudres it was, and still is, a joy to drink. Electric, vibrant, and sparkly (both having bubbles and in personality). The nose is sea air, pink florals and yellow roses, sweet tarts, apricot blossoms, and ruby red grapefruit. The palate is Rainier cherry skin and raspberry, so vibrant and fresh, and then a wonderful electric finish; must love acid, the balance here is very definitely sweet/tart/dry. 12.1% ABV, 1gram/liter dosage. Bottled April 2023, with 85 cases disgorged this past December.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Whistling Ridge Blanc de Gris, Ribbon Ridge NV 750ml Displayed Price: $47.50, that’s $45.13 at 5% off and $42.75 at 10% off, 21 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“Like walking through an orchard blossoming out in the spring. Then mandarins and orange zest, nectarine and lime leaf, subtle and fine, with a hint of salt & fennel pollen. Kumquats in the palate, stony and dry (not austere), mineral, finishes with citrus skin. The impetus to make traditional method sparkling wines from Pinot Gris came from years of watching the quality of Pinot Gris that has consistently come out of the Whistling Ridge Vineyard, and specifically with tasting some of the older examples of our bottlings with extended barrel aging and with extended skin-contact. Brut Nature (no dose) but with a yeasty textural aspect that suggests otherwise. Delicious. 12.6% ABV. 77 cases produced, bottled April 2023 and disgorged this past December.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Durant Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 4 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93+ points
“The 2022 Pinot Noir Durant entices with a sweetly spiced bouquet of wild blueberries, sweet herbs and hints of cinnamon spice. This is juicy and round, with perfumed wild berry fruits elevated by blood orange as bright-toned inner florals resonate throughout. It leaves a tactile staining of minerality and gently grippy tannins, finishing with a tinge of sour citrus that lingers on.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars “Heritage #17” Durant Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 5 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“Deeper red hues and spice on the nose, black cherry, boysenberry, violets, cardamom, balsam, enveloping and textural with juicy, lovely acidity, firm tannins on opening that integrate over several days as the weight and texture of the wine fills in. Aromatically, the high point seems to really arrive after being open for about 48 hours, and the seamless interplay between fruit, baking spice, loamy earth, and hints of kitchen herbs is dramatic and superlative. In the zone the nose here is absolutely intoxicating.”

Clos Sainte Magdeleine Cassis Rosé, Provence 2018 3L Was $199, Now $159 special, 1 double-magnum in stock now
Grapelive 93 points
“The beautiful and richly flavored Clos Ste. Magdeleine Cassis Rosé from the 2018 vintage proves why it is one of the best with its fabulous array of wild strawberries, seeped rose petals, grapefruit, racy peach and sour cherries along with its seductive vinous quality and liquid mineral feel on the dense, but lively palate, this is serious stuff that delivers everything you could want from a Provence Rosé! Brilliant pale salmon/pink in the glass, this crisply refreshing Clos Ste. Magdeleine Rosé is a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Cinsault and 20% Mourvèdre, which gives this gorgeous wine its complexity and nature. It comes from 15 to 40 year old vines on the region’s classic clay and limestone soils. Set in the picturesque ancient Provence fishing village of Cassis on the Mediterranean sea, Clos Ste. Magdeleine is a small family run estate winery that renown the world over for their white and rosé bottling, which are always delightful and profound wines that intensely sought after and limited, making them cherished treats that go especially well with seafood dishes.…This 2018 is ripe and generous and has stylish presence in the glass and has a touch of saline, stony and savory elements that sharpens the detail and enhances the pleasure, both for drinking now and for the future, for this Rosé can be short term aged as well. Drink this textured Clos Ste. Magdeleine Rosé over the next 3 years, and though hard to get and rare, it is really worth searching out!”
