Paitin: Top Level Barbaresco at Mid-Level Pricing

Understanding how a family’s tie to their land can influence their wines is terribly important when tasting and appreciating old-world producers. When the family’s ownership over their vineyards predates their country’s unification, you start to understand their grasp of the nuances that can be squeezed out of 42 acres of Italian hillsides.

First Offer: Dominus 2018

Dominus was founded by Christian Moueix, proprietor of the legendary Chateau Petrus in Pomerol and his vision has shaped Dominus into the force that it’s become.  Despite its French heritage, the wine is definitely California in tone and style, combining waves of rich fruit and beautiful aromatics with enough tannin to ground the wine.  We’ve just received our allocation of the ’18—the product of a near-perfect growing season in Napa.

New Diamond Creek Reviews

Napa’s Most Underrated ‘Cult’ Producer

Diamond Creek invented much of what we think of as pillars of cult California Cabernet. The single vineyard bottlings, the exclusive mailing list, and the elevated prices all seemed to spring from this tiny estate on the hillsides of Diamond Mountain. The wines are as iconic as ever—monuments to the greatness of their Napa terroir.

We’ve featured their 2018s before, predicting that the lineup would garner high praise once reviewers got their hands on them.

Sassetti Pertimali’s Traditional Brunello

Simply put, Brunello di Montalicino would not be the wine that we know and love today without the Sassetti family. Livio Sassetti is one of the founding fathers of Brunello and the wines coming off of his “Pertimali” estate define the genre. This is a Grand Cru site in Montalcino and the wines are thrilling whenever you get a chance to taste them.

Cantalupo remains one of the top producers in the appellation, making wines that are traditional with a touch of polish to them.
