Saint Emilion

Saint Emilion is one of the world’s most famous appellations for Merlot-based wines. The region boasts treasured estates such as Angelus, Chateau Canon, and more. Heralded for centuries, it can be easy to forget how and why these wines are so stunning.

The soils are rich in clay and chalk, ideal for the approachable yet mineral-laced and refined Merlots. The area is notably cooler, too, than the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated Left Bank appellations, helping the grapes retain acidity and depth of flavors.

We boast a wide selection of estates, all Grand Cru (with one bonus producer from the satellite region of Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion), which means they adhere to stricter production requirements, ensuring they represent the finest wines Saint-Emilion has to offer.

As the third-generation in his family to make wine, Jim crafts Grand Cru-level Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Arterberry Maresh’s prized position in the Dundee Hills. His releases are praised by critics praise as “are some of the most impressive wines I’ve tried anywhere—not just in the US”, per Erin Brooks of the Wine Advocate. These are benchmark wines for the region that somehow capture Jim’s easy-going yet seriously-nerdy-under-the-skin personality.

That dualistic charm is doubled in in experimental side project, Tan Fruit. Now, you could assume that the wines are throwaway gags not meant to see the light of day, but leave it to Jim to make his side project a points-sweeping EVENT.

This garagiste winemaker, Fred Prinz, originally started his winery in 1991. The critics fell quickly in love, and an invitation to join the legendary VDP consortium of top German wineries followed in 2005. His estate vineyards are farmed organically, with a house style that aims for “minerality, elegance, finesse and ageing ability” that expresses terroir.

With high-elevation holdings in the Rheingau, the winery produces a full range of Riesling’s including an ultra-rare Eiswein. Eiswein is one of the most challenging wines to make and is becoming rarer as climate change advances. This is on account of the time the Riesling grapes must spend on the vine as decreed by German law.

Elvio Cogno: Steward of Greatness on Sale Now 9-21-25

On Sale for up to 10% Off!

Azienda Agricola Cogno. Family members walking the vineyards.

Tucked into the rolling hills of Novello, the Elvio Cogno estate stands as one of Barolo’s most revered names—a house that seamlessly weaves deep tradition with a spirit of quiet innovation. Ravera is often considered among the greatest single vineyards in all of Barolo, and why the Cogno family has earned its reputation as its most devoted steward. Trying to describe the wines from this vineyard is a task doomed to do disservice to the wines themselves. You can’t mirror the sensory experience of a world class wine with words, you can only paint a picture of their shadow. The residue of flavor memory that you wish you could experience one again.
