Peter William

Unlike the Willamette with its emphasis on Burgundian varieties and styles, the Rogue Valley boasts one of the most diverse selection of styles and grapes in any established winemaking region in America. The one hundred or so wineries that call it home emphasize sustainability.

Full-time physician Dr. Peter Adesman and his wife, Dr. Robin Miller, planted the Peter William estate vineyard in 2013 after decades of work collecting, consuming, and educating on wine. They grow Roussanne, Grenache, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Malbec at the estate and purchase from other Rogue Valley vineyards. The resulting wines are enjoyable and approachable, both in terms of drinkability and cost.

So, explore outside the WV box and stock up on some delicious Rhone-, Loire Valley-, and Rioja-inspired wines during our three-day sale on the diverse range of wines from Peter William.

Peter William Egan Vineyard Chardonnay, Rogue Valley 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $26.50, that’s $25.18 at 5% off and $23.85 at 10% off, 16 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“The Egan Vineyard was formerly known as the Gold vineyard, re-named for the new owners. Originally the vineyard of Rogue Valley wine legend Randy Gold. This wine was produced for us by Eric Weisinger. This one has approximately 20% new French Oak (with the remainder done in neutral oak). A subtle toasty quality from the oak is just enough to accent the wine, without overpowering the fruit. Rich, balanced, creamy, with just a hint of spice & oak.”

Peter William Roussanne, Rogue Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $19.50, that’s $18.53 at 5% off and $17.55 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“This small batch (30 cases) of Peter William Roussanne was produced from our hillside vineyard, overlooking the beautiful Rogue Valley.”

Peter William Sauvignon Blanc, Rogue Valley 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 15 bottles in stock now
VinopolNote:
Their second vintage of Sauvignon Blanc, this is made in the style of Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc and shows grassy and flinty notes.

Peter William Semillon, Rogue Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $21.90, that’s $20.81 at 5% off and $19.71 at 10% off, 25 bottles in stock now
Winery Note
“Sourced and made for us from two local vineyards by our friend Eric Weisinger of Weisinger Family Winery.”

Peter William Daisy Creek Vineyard Viognier, Rogue Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $26, that’s $24.70 at 5% off and $23.40 at 10% off, 29 bottles in stock now
Norm Roby-Wine Review Online 95 points
“Though most Rhône varieties thrive in its estate vineyard, the winery reaches out for Viognier from the nearby Daisy Creek Vineyard. The result is an exceptionally rich and balanced Viognier that sets the bar high. All the fruit for this 2023 was harvested on September 19th, and was whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented. Light yellow in color, it offers a lovely mix of ripe peach, mango and honeysuckle on the nose. Medium-bodied and concentrated, it opens up and delivers plenty of peach and lychee flavors with some ginger in its aftertaste. Balanced and creamy in texture with nuanced oak in the background, it ends on a long note of delicious fruit.”

Peter William Grenache, Rogue Valley 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $26, that’s $24.70 at 5% off and $23.40 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
Michael Alberty-Wine Enthusiast 90 points
“After 10 months in neutral French oak, this Grenache is eager to make friends. Its dark chocolate and meaty aromas will make you crave pork mole. The flavors are a tangy combination of boysenberry and orange zest, with bits of tobacco and ginger. Boisterous acidity intersects with firm tannins.”

Peter William Malbec, Rogue Valley 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $29, that’s $27.55 at 5% off and $26.10 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
Norm Roby-Wine Review Online 92 points
“Unable to decide which vintage should be released first, the winery decided to offer both its 2018 and 2019 Malbec at the same time and price. Both are from the same vineyard block made by the same winemaker. Both were aged 18 months in 30% new oak barrels. The major difference is the oak; in 2018 it was American, whereas the oak in 2019 is French. The differences were subtle, but with time in the glass the 2019 displayed more finesse and complexity. It comes across as a pretty, elegant Malbec with spiced dark plum fruit and baking spice flavors, refined, smooth tannin and light oak. Overall, the 2019 has more polish and a potential to develop with short term cellaring.”

Peter William PWV ‘Les Candives’ Reserve Red, Rogue Valley 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $36, that’s $34.20 at 5% off and $32.40 at 10% off, 9 bottles in stock now
Norm Roby-Wine Review Online 94 points
“Of the three Syrahs made by this winery in 2018, this one is 100% Syrah made from the estate vineyard and aged entirely in French oak, 50% new. To distinguish it from the others, the winery went with the “Candives” name, said to be an alternate name for Syrah used in the tiny village of Chavanay in the Northern Rhone Valley. As fine as the other 2018s are, this is so dark, dense, and dramatic that the special name is certainly merited. Loaded with ripe black fruit, it also has layers of spice, hints of clove and violets, light leather, toast, and pepper that evolve in the glass. Ultra smooth and seamless, it is beautiful now but will also bring rewards with cellaring.”

Peter William PWV ‘Extravagance’ Proprietary Reserve Red, Rogue Valley 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 15 bottles in stock now
Michael Alberty-Wine Enthusiast 90 points
“This is a 50-50 Syrah-Tempranillo blend where the Syrah is co-fermented with 3% Viognier. It is packed with concentrated blackberry and balsamic aromas and flavors. The tiniest notes of orange blossom and lemon add contrast, and the wine’s thick texture is matched with grippy tannins.”

Peter William PWV Malbec Reserve, Rogue Valley 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $38, that’s $36.10 at 5% off and $34.20 at 10% off, 15 bottles in stock now
Michael Alberty-Wine Enthusiast 92 points
“Dark raspberry and straw aromas are brambly and dusty, while violets linger in the background. The cherry and caramel apple flavors are rich, but not cloying. The wine’s tannins are firm, the acidity crisp. Wines like this make me think Malbec should be in the conversation regarding Oregon’s signature grapes.”

Peter William PWV Lot B-42 Reserve Syrah, Rogue Valley 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $38, that’s $36.10 at 5% off and $34.20 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Norm Roby-Wine Review Online 94 points
“One of the winery’s 3 Syrahs made in this vintage, this Reserve was co-fermented with 3% Viognier. After a cold soak and long fermentation, it was aged 19 months in French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. As signaled by the dark purple color, this is a sturdy Syrah built for the long haul. As it sits in the glass it eventually unwinds to reveal aromas of ripe dark plum and blackberry with earthy, gamey background notes. As it continues to evolve, the flavors are focused on black fruit with clove and earthy spice presented in a medium full-bodied style. The mouthfeel is plush and the full throttle ripeness is nicely controlled by light tannin. Will age well for at least 5 years. The winery’s 2018 B-42 Syrah is made in a more accessible, ripe fruit-filled pretty style and is an excellent value. “B-42″ references the winemaking facility.”

Peter William Tempranillo, Rogue Valley 2018 750ml Displayed Price: $24, that’s $22.80 at 5% off and $21.60 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
“A distinctly earthy nose features interesting notes of crushed black-walnut shells, smoked cherries and a touch of mint. The flavors of ripe black cherries, leather and almond extract are encircled by a wall of grippy tannins. Decanting is recommended.” -Wine Enthusiast
Vie di Romans is one of the flagship wineries of Friuli—arguably the greatest white-wine producing region in Italy. Named for the ancient Roman road that defines one of their vineyards, they sit in the prestigious Isonzo section of the region, with a warmer micro-climate that makes developing powerful, rich whites easier.

Those whites are held back an extra year before release and age beautifully—a tribute to the fine balance between power and minerality that makes these some of the most intriguing, food-friendly bottles around.

They craft lush Chardonnays and complex Sauvignon Blancs. Their indigenous whites include the ‘Dolée’ Friulano and the Flors di Uis blend. The Dolée has fascinating aromatics of green herbs and ripe citrus, with a rich and decedent body. The Flors du Uis is a blend of Malvasia Istriana, Riesling (referred to as “Rhein Riesling”), and Friulano. This wine is exotic and aromatic, with beautiful richness and a dry finish.

Given the quality of the wines, we always expect their prices to be higher—but Friuli remains one of the last great bargains for exceptional bottles. If you’re a drinker of Sancerre, top-end California Chardonnay, or white Burgundy, you owe it to yourself to stock your cellar with these.

Vie di Romans Chardonnay Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2022 750ml $44.50 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 94 points
“The 2022 Chardonnay mixes richness with energy and savory with sweetness, as crushed yellow apples and gingery spice combine with minty herbs and wet stone. This is soothingly round and enveloping, quite textural, with waves of ripe green melon and mineral-tinged apricots coasting across a stream of zesty acidity. The 2022 finishes youthfully tense, structured and spicy, with hints of baked pear and cardamom that resonate. While a bit backward today, the potential here is off the charts. Vie di Romans has decided to begin holding back their wines longer in the cellar to allow them to develop further before release, and I think this is a perfect example of how insightful that decision was.”

Vie di Romans Ciampagnis Vieris Chardonnay Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2022 750ml $39.50 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points
“The 2022 Chardonnay Ciampagnis is a seductress, tempting the imagination with a beguiling array of crushed nectarines infused with tropical citrus, hints of curry leaves and sweet, sweet spice. It impresses further with a balance of contrasts, mixing tart orchard fruits and notes of green citrus with cooling acidity and a flourish of apricot toward the close. Incredibly fresh and dramatically long, the Ciampagnis finishes with staining length and gently tannic, leaving a pleasantly tart sensation that lingers.”

Vie di Romans ‘Dolee’ Friulano Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2021 750ml $44.50 special, 31 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points
“The 2021 Friulano Dolée is exotically spiced and vibrant in the glass, with an intense burst of lemon meringue complemented by sweet mint and crystallized ginger. Silky and supple on the palate, this boasts ultra-ripe citrus and orchard fruits balanced by stimulating acidity. This finishes with outstanding length and is spicy with lingering tropical melon notes. While the 2021 comes across as sweet, it’s just a trick of the acidity and fruit, as this finished at only 1.2 grams of residual sugar.”

Vie di Romans Flors di Uis Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2022 750ml $41.90 special, 29 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points
“Understated yet beautifully refined, the 2022 Bianco Flors di Uis keeps the taster coming back to the glass with its pretty blend of lime sorbet, chamomile, spring flowers and white smoke. It flows across the palate with a sensation of liquid stone and minerals, elevated by lively acidity as a core of candied lemon is contrasted by tart green apple fruit. The 2022 finishes with a lingering concentration and tart citrus pith bitterness, yet through it all, the mouth is left salivating for more. Readers may have a hard time keeping their hands off in its youth, yet I advise patience. This Flors di Uis is still just a baby in its development and has bloomed beautifully with further bottle age. A fantastic showing. This is a blend of 55% Malvasia Istriana, 31% Rhein Riesling and 14% Friulano.”

Vie di Romans Piere Sauvignon Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2021 750ml $49 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points
“The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Piere is a spice bomb, holding my attention firm with a blast of ground ginger, cardamom, flint stone and curry before arriving at dried nectarines. It’s luxuriously silky yet lifted in style, with cooling minerality and acidity that motivates its floral-laced green citrus and melon tones. For all of its intensity, the 2021 finishes crisp and with a classically dry feel, as savory herbal tones resonate on. There is so much pleasure in this upfront, fruit-focused, yet truly seductive Sauvignon.”

Vie di Romans Piere Sauvignon Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2022 750ml $44.50 special, 28 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 93 points
“The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Piere is wildly fresh, with a vivid blend of crushed nectarines and lime zest complemented by hints of rosemary and crushed stone. It’s silky smooth yet full of zesty tension, with masses of mineral-drenched green apples and hints of spice propelled by vibrant acidity. The 2022 leaves the palate staining in primary concentration, youthfully intense and gently tannic, leaving a spicy sensation that lingers on and on. The balance here is otherworldly, as is its drinkability factor.”

Vie di Romans Vieris Sauvignon Friuli Isonzo, Friuli-Venezia Giulia 2021 750ml $44.50 special, 21 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 94+ points
“The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Vieris opens slowly in the glass, holding back in its youthful state, with hints of lemon oil, rosemary and wet stone accentuated by sweet spice. This is seamlessly silky, almost oily in feel, with sapid yellow citrus and savory herbal tones enriched by vibrant acidity. It finishes potent and spicy, leaving the palate saturated in an intense staining of primary concentration. The potential here is off the charts, but today, the Vieris is one of the most backward wines out of the 2021 portfolio.”
