It’s been a long time since the wines of Saint Siffrein have graced our shelves… but we’re pleased to have them back.
 
Founded by the Chastan family in 1880, this 5th generation Certified Organic winery produces some of the finest values from Chateauneuf we’ve encountered since Saint Cosme first came across our radar. These wines show well integrated fruit and tannin, a very pleasant style that drinks well at a relatively young age.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr is arguably the most important and beloved portion of the entire Mosel. It was no surprise to us that Wine Spectator named it one of the world’s top ten greatest vineyards. The other nine may be a bit out of reach to the average consumer (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s estate vineyard isn’t exactly a pop ‘n pour). Wehlener Sonnenhur, on the other hand, still graces us with affordable, drink-now options that can easily cellar for decades, too. And the fact that it’s home to one of our most loved Mosel estates, Markus Molitor, doesn’t hurt either.
 
The soils in Sonnenuhr (which translates to “sundial” in German, in reference to the bold sundial in the vineyard) are Devonian slate.

When speaking about the wines of Gaja, one must realize they’re speaking about a man, the growth of an entire region, and the actual juice that’s in the bottle. It’s impossible to separate the three. Angelo Gaja (pictured on the right) was an individual that forever changed the perception of Piemonte and Italian wine on the global market. Largely taking over his family estate in 1961, Angelo recognized the international disinterest in fine Italian wine and he began a journey of reinventing the vinous identity of his home village of Barbaresco and the nation as a whole.
