SALEBRATION Part 1

October 16, 2014

The SALEBRATION of a decade begins…

We opened Vinopolis Wine Shop 10 years ago. Opened to you on the day following Thanksgiving. But at this time in 2004 we were already working every day, prepping for what was to come. And we’ll share this aspect of wine that we learned over the years- in the markets there are thousands of shops to buy wines, tens of thousands of wines to choose from, and millions of bottles for sale. It didn’t take us long to learn that we wanted to focus on good wines at great prices; and range on up into very great wines at good prices. Thriving as a single location specialty merchant is only meaningful in relative terms.

Arrives Friday October 17

Opus One Overture NV (2011) ($129.95) $89 jump start pre-arrival special
Winery notes
“Overture is the second wine of Opus One. Aged in French oak, Overture is comprised of the five classic Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Full bodied but approachable in its youth, Overture shows generous dark fruit aromas and flavors with a soft, supple mid-palate. As a fine wine, Overture will develop beautifully over time.”
Vinopolnotes- A mailing list exclusive at Opus One since 1993, this is the first commercial release. This bottling is barrel selection blend of 2007/2010/2011; specifically intended by the winemaker to be more generous than the vintage Opus One at time of release to the public.… Read the rest

The Rhone Valley in 2012

The Rhone valley is comprised of two distinct growing regions: the North, which focuses almost exclusively on red Syrah wine, and the South, which is known for Grenache-based red blends.  Winemaking dates to the Roman era for the region as a whole, and has undergone several revivals including during the 13th century when the Pope moved to Avignon in the South.  The 2012 vintage was a challenging year for the North and a phenomenal vintage for the South.

Travel with us as we take an in-depth look as these two regions and the 2012 vintage.

Northern Rhone

The Northern Rhone is tiny in comparison to the South, accounting for around 10% of total Rhone wine production. … Read the rest

Oregon and Burgundy

All Pinot Edition…
…all but one

Domaine Pierre Guillemot

For eight generations, the Guillemot family has grown grapes in the Savigny-les-Beaune region of Burgundy.  The Domaine was created in 1946.  Jean-Pierre took over the domaine with the continued assistance of his father, Pierre, in 1988.  They produce wines of great finesse with classic hints of the rustic characteristics of Savigny wines.

The estate vines average 55 years old and are worked by hand.  The vines are green harvested when necessary.  The white wine is a blend of 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Blanc grapes that are completely destemmed.  The wine is aged in neutral 600-liter demi-muids for 15 months with lees stirring and for 6 months in bottle.
