“Bodegas R. Lopez Heredia, Rioja”
Lopez Heredia Todonia Gran Reserva 2001 750ml $199 special, 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 98 Points “The 2001 Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva is the follow-up of the 1995. There is a sense of harmony and elegance, of nuance and subtleness that wasn’t quite the same in the Bosconia, as comparing both wines is inevitable. They started picking the red grapes the 15th of October, and the last grapes were picked the 29th of October with good weather. The grapes ripened properly and thoroughly, and the wine has great balance for a long aging in bottle. This is 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho and 5% each Graciano and Mazuelo that fermented in their 153-year-old oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in used barrels for 10 years. It has 13% alcohol, a pH of 3.4 and 6.4 grams of acidity (tartaric). The nose shows young (tasting it blind, you’d guess a 10-year old wine, not a 20-year-old wine!). It has a nose of sweet spices, underbrush and cigar ash, somewhat balsamic, bramble fruit with perfect ripeness, integrated and young but starting to show some tertiary complexity. The palate is velvety and medium-bodied, with fine-grained, chalky tannins denoting a limestone soil that brings finesse and texture and a sapid, tasty, almost salty finish. This is going to make a beautiful bottle of old Rioja in 30 years’ time! 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled after being fined with egg whites in July 2012.”

“Going South: The Rogue Valley Wines of Peter William Vineyards”

We keep getting more and more requests for Southern Oregon Wines and with newer wineries like Peter William setting up in the Rogue AVA, it’s no surprise.

Since 2013, husband and wife team Peter Adesman and Robin Miller have been making their single vineyard focused estate wines in Medford, Oregon. It’s already common knowledge that areas like Milton-Freewater in Eastern Oregon are producing some of the best Rhône varietals outside of the Rhône, now Southern Oregon is finally getting its due, even seeing national recognition in top publications.

Peter William Grenache 2019 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles available
Gold Medal Winner! Oregon Wine Experience 2022 Competition
Wine Enthusiast 92 Points Editor’s Choice. This is an exquisite example of the variety. The aromas pop, with pure notes of raspberry, orange twist and white pepper. Plump, pillowy fruit flavors follow. The purity is captivating. It’s an outrageous value.”

Peter William Malbec 2019 750ml $30.90 special, 24 bottles available
Winery Note “Our only Bordeaux Varietal, most often seen on its own from Argentina. This is a big, bold mouth-filling wine of great depth.”

Peter William Extravagance PWV Reserve Red 2018 750ml $39 special, 24 bottles available
Wine Enthusiast 92 Points “This is a 50-50 blend of Tempranillo and Syrah from the estate vineyard. Showcasing what are arguably the top two red grapes from the Rogue, this does not shy away from new oak (50% for 22 months) but has the muscle and fruit to stand up to it. Toasty, dark and tannic, it’s loaded with black cherry, mocha and smoky cedar flavors. It’s a big, bold red that’s ready for anything you put on the smoker.”

Peter William Rose Grenache 2022 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles available
Winery Note: “The wine shows bright, pretty strawberry & light cherry fruit on the nose and palate. Ample acid brightens the fruit flavors and will allow this wine to hold up in the bottle.”

Peter William Syrah Lot B-42 2018 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles available
Wine Enthusiast 92 Points “Briary black fruits are backed by a toasted cashew note in this rich red. The overall balance is spot-on, with ample acidity and tannins but nothing dominating. Drink this supple and tasty wine through 2026.”

Peter William Tempranillo “Lot W” 2017 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles available
Wine Enthusiast 91 Points “Editor’s Choice. Tempranillo shows lots of promise in Rogue Valley and this is a lovely example. ”

Peter William Viognier Daisy Creek Vyd 2022 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles available
Not yet reviewed, Review of the 2021 vintage provided for context
Paul Gregutt “Following on the heels of the outstanding 2020 this Southern Oregon winery nails another great Viognier. It’s a precise mix of fruit and botanicals, with cut and verve. Made at the Barrel 42 incubator, this is less peaches and creamy than the 2020, but just as good in its own way.”

“Domaine Drouhin, Willamette Valley”
Domaine Drouhin Arthur Chardonnay 2021 750ml $37.50 special, 12 bottles available
James Suckling 94 Points “This has a beautiful nose of lemon curd, cream, sliced green apples and cardamom buns. Some toasted hazelnuts, too. It’s medium- to full-bodied with a deliciously creamy, gently spicy palate, married with vibrant acidity. Drink or hold.”

Cloudline (Drouhin) Rose Of Pinot Noir WV 2021 $11.90 special, 36+ bottles available
Cloudline (Drouhin) Rose Of Pinot Noir WV 2021 Case of 12 750ml bottles for $119- that’s $9.92 a bottle!
Winemaker Notes “The 2021 Cloudline Rosé of Pinot Noir expresses a floral nose of strawberry blossom and hawthorns. A beautiful salmon color, the wine has the lively texture of classic rosé and a flavor palate that includes strawberry, kiwi and a touch of lemongrass. Consider this a summer dream for any time of the year!”

“Domaine Gerard Boulay, Loire”

“Given the crystalline purity of his Sauvignon Blancs, he has become one of my favorite producers of the central Loire. If you want to know what true Sancerre tastes like, try one of his single-vineyard bottlings. It does not come any better!”
– Joel Payne, Vinous

The Boulay family has farmed their famous and unique parcels of land in Chavignol since 1380 and it is their deep understanding of this land that lends their production such gravity and legitimacy. Chavignol, located in the Village of Sancerre, is famous for their “Terre Blanche” the same Kimmeridgian soils that run through Champagne and Chablis. It is these soils that give  boulay’s famed crus: Monts Damnés, La Grande Côte, and Clos de Beaujeutheir character. As a result, these wines are electric and high-minded like Chablis, with the earthiness and vivacity of the Loire. Everything in the vineyards is done in the family’s traditional style, including organic farming, hand harvesting, and partial aging in neutral oak barrels, which prolongs the longevity of the wines for decades.

Gerard Boulay Sancerre Clos De Beaujeu 2021 750ml $59 special, 11 bottles available
Wine Notes “The Clos de Beaujeu is among the most historic sites in the village of Chavignol. In the 14th century the Clos de Beaujeu supplied the Cathedral of Bourges with white wine. At that time, Sancerre was famous for it’s red wines. Boulay’s Clos de Beaujeu is a richer, denser step up from the Chavignol village wine.”

Gerard Boulay Sancerre Comtesse 2020 750ml $69 special, 11 bottles available
Wine Notes “The most powerful and complex wine from Boulay’s lineup, with an incredible intensity of fruit and a strong mineral core. Definitely one to put away and follow for years to come…”

Gerard Boulay Sancerre La Cote 2021 750ml $66 special, 11 bottles available
Wine Notes “Boulay’s parcel in “La Grande Côte,” which is partially owned and partically rented, is one of three designated Crus of Chavignol and is reputed for producing wines of incredible precision.”

Gerard Boulay Sancerre Mont Damnes 2021 750ml $59 special, 12 bottles available
Wine Notes “These “hills of the damned” are among the steepest vineyards in Europe. Think of the dramatic slopes of Mosel and you’ll get the idea. Mont Damnés’ reflective soils and south-facing aspect also make it one of Chavignol’s warmest sites, with wines of intense concentration. Think Mosel meets Chablis.”

Gerard Boulay Sancerre Rouge Oriane 2020 750ml $49 special, 24 bottles available
Wine Notes “Although pinot noir based roses from the Loire have built up a lot of cache in the past few years, the Sancerre region used to be renowned for red wines. The cherry and raspberry perfumed nose of this wine is lifted by ample acidity and minerality for a truly elegant expression of Sancerre rouge.

“La Commanderie Chateau de Peyrassol”

Can you even call it summer before the Chateau Peyrassol Roses have arrived? We would argue no. This property has produced wine since it was owned by the Knights Templar during the Crusades and has changed hands, sometimes violently, many times over the centuries, finally becoming the benchmark for Provencal Wines in the post-war era. Layered with herbs, stone fruit, and salinity, drinking a glass of this wine will transport you to the mediterranean.

Chateau Peyrassol Provence Rose 2022 750ml $41.90 special, 36+ bottles available
Chateau Peyrassol Provence Rose 2022 1.5L $99 special, 6 bottles available
Importer’s Note “Very pale, lychee pink in color. The nose is fine and elegant. Complex, releasing white fleshed fruit and citrus fruits aromas, along with white floral notes. The palate is straightforward and clean. Fine and silky, it is soft, delicate and lively. The freshness of the finish is balanced with a subtle hint of saltiness.”

Peyrassol Le Clos Peyrassol Rosé 2022 750ml $77 special, 12 bottles available
Importer’s Note With an extremely pale pink color, this emblematic cuvée cultivates elegance, finesse and concentration. Aromas of white cherry blossom, citrus, and white fruits such as peach and pear. The fresh and generous palate immediately delivers a complexity typical of great wines. The aromas are gradually released and intermingle to offer all the expression of the grape varieties of Provence from their favorite terroirs. Built around the acidity of the fruit, and very long on the palate, this wine is elegantly prolonged by bitterness and dosed salinity

Chateau Goubau “La Source” Castillon 2015 6 bottle case for $99 special, 2 cases available (That’s $16.50 a bottle)
“This is a second wine, a satellite right-bank wine that really punches above its weight. The chalk soils of Goubau’s vineyards produce plummy notes with solid acidity. If you’re tired of French wines that taste like California or you want something with a touch more tartness this is the wine for you. If you like old school Bordeaux at a great price, look no farther, you’ve found The Source.”

Torre Beati Cerasuolo Rosa-Ae 2022 750ml $19.50 special, 32 bottles available
Vinous 92 Points “The 2022 Cerasuolo d’abruzzo Rosa-Ae blows off a whiff of reduction to reveal a profoundly satisfying bouquet of rose petals, wild strawberries,  and wet stone. This sizzles on the Patale, blending tantalizing acidity with minerals and ripe white cherry fruits. The 2022 finishes with marvelous freshness and potency. It ends with a pleasantly chewy sensation and wild berry hints. This is beautifully done and wonderfully balanced at just .2 grams of residual sugar per liter.”

Clos Cibonne Tibouren Provence Rose Tradition 2021 $39 special, 7 bottles available
Wine Spectator 91 Points “Rich and full, this intensely savory rosé is texturally very pure and integrated, with a beguiling mix of sea salt–coated pink grapefruit, rose petal and tangerine flavors. Notes of chamomile tea and a green herbal thread add complexity through the succulent, penetrating finish. Tibouren and Grenache.”

Domaines Ott Chateau Romassan Bandol Rose 2021 $54.50 special, 20 bottles available
Wine & Spirits 96 Points “Chateau Romassan sits at the foot of the hilltop village Le Castellet, a few miles north of the Bay of Bandol. The Otts rely on mourvedre for the bulk of their rose, this one includes 30 percent cinsault and 15 percent grenache), and, thought 2021 was another hot summer here, Romassan’s poor limestone and sandstone soils produced a deeply savory wine. This pale Bandol seems to have inhaled the local scrubland and seaside breezes, presenting that savory edge alongside husk cherry, grapefruit and pale melon flavors. Firm and versatile, it would pair nicely with anything from bouillabaisse to a Nicoise salad; or take it abroad alongside chicken yakitori.”

Peyrassol Le Clos Peyrassol Rose 2019 1.5L $129 special, 8 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 Points “Predominantly Tibouren, with the balance of the blend being Grenache and Rolle, Peyrassol’s super pale 2019 Cotes de Provence Rose Le Clos Peyrassol offers up scents of crushed stone, garrigue, white peach and lime, all tinged with tart red berries. It’s medium-bodied on the palate, with a silky-wet stone feel and a lingering finish that seems to build in red fruit intensity while remaining citrusy and refreshing at the same time. One of the best wines in this year’s tasting, this is a limited-production cuvée from a walled vineyard located on the estate.”

Peyrassol Le Clos Peyrassol Rose 2021 750ml $69 special, 34 bottles available
Vinous 94 Points “Vivid onion skin color. A highly perfumed and complex bouquet evokes fresh citrus and pit fruits, strawberry and pungent flowers, along with building mineral and succulent herb elements. Shows excellent clarity and depth to its juicy red fruit, nectarine and mango flavors, which are sweetened by a background of vanilla note. Finishes impressively long and silky, with the mineral and floral note resonating. ”

Classics from Italy

Isole E Olena Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2015 WAS $89 NOW $79, 6 bottles
Vinous 96+ Points “The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, essentially a selection of the best barrels of Cepparello, is a gorgeous wine. More than anything, the 2015 is remarkable considering the challenges of a growing season in which rain during harvest created significant challenges. Nevertheless, Paolo De Marchi coaxed all of the potential out of his vines in 2015, adding a good dollop of Petit Verdot to the Sangiovese in crafting the Gran Selezione. Dense, powerful and beautifully textured, with intense underpinnings of saline minerality. The 2015 has a brilliant future, but it won’t see the light until fall 2020 at the very earliest.”

Caiarossa Aria Di Caiarossa Toscana 2015 750ml WAS $33 NOW $29, 45 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 Points “The selection of grapes in this blend has changed a bit, with much younger vines of Syrah, older Alicante vines, filled out by Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2015 Aria di Caiarossa goes through 20% new oak and shows a nice richness and velvety mouthfeel. It is immediate and exuberant and a bit sweeter than past vintages.”

Caiarossa Toscana Rosso 2016 750ml WAS $66 NOW $59 special, 26 bottles available
Wine Advocate 96 Points “The 2016 Caiarossa will be released in September. This wine is a blend of seven grapes—42% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 15.5% Syrah, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4.5% Sangiovese and 1% Alicante. This vintage sees a slightly higher percentage of Cabernet Franc than usual, but I am told that the 2018 edition will see more Syrah instead. The bouquet presents a beautiful first wave of dark fruit that pushes the limits of ripeness but remains safely within the realm of elegance. The aromas are balanced and focused with blackberry, cassis, and light touches of salty or rusty mineral. The wine is not too constructed or big in the mouth, rather is shows a delicate level of elegances that absolutely seals the deal.”

Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco Ovello 2017 750ml WAS $59 NOW $49 special, 23 bottles available
Wine Advocate 94+ Points “Considering the untimely passing of Renato Vacca in March of 2020, there is a lot of emotion coming back to this wine: It has always been an expression of Barbaresco nostalgia and romanticism, even when its creator was alive and well, working in these vines located directly under his family house. The Cantina del Pino 2017 Barbaresco Ovello bears his winemaking imprint with balance and elegance that never misses a beat. This vintage offers more density and concentration for sure, and the positioning of the Ovello cru overlooking the Tanaro River Valley sets the wine up for open-knit characteristics and suave softness. Those impressions are amplified in this vintage but are not overblown.”

Luigi Baudana Barolo Baudana 2017 750ml Was $79 Now $69 special, 16 bottles available
Wine Enthusiast 96 Points “Balsamic aromas of camphor and cedar mingle with rose and leather on this full-boded, savory red. Structured and delicious, the juicy palate is still youthfully austere, delivering ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, baking spice and licorice framed in noble tannins before a black tea finish.”

Luigi Baudana Barolo Baudana 2018 750ml Was 84.50 Now $69 special, 17 bottles available
Wine Advocate 94 Points “With fruit from Serralunga d’Alba, the 2018 Barolo Baudana is a very different wine when compared to the other single-vineyard expressions from this estate. This has to do with site and soil, and in the case of this celebrated subzone, the wines are always more powerful, more structured and mineral-driven. Dark fruit is followed by rusty notes of iron ore and crushed clay. This wine offers good substance both in terms of finish and texture. Cascina Adelaide does a great job with the Baudana.”

Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta 2018 750ml Was $79 Now $69 special, 18 bottles available
Vinous 93 Points “The 2018 Barolo Cerretta is a potent, searing wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. Scorching tannins wrap around a core of dark red/black fruit, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks, menthol, licorice and game. The 2018 is going to need a number of years to come around and for those formidable tannins to soften.”

Luigi Baudana Barolo Serralunga 2018 750ml Was $59 Now $51.50 special, 21 bottles available
Vinous 91 Points “The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is redolent of savory and ferrous notes woven into a core of dried red cherry fruit. Spice, mint and tobacco develop later, adding pretty shades of nuance. Readers will find a super-classic Serralunga Barolo, but one that won’t need more than a few years to be at its best.”

Vinedos Paganos El Puntido Rioja Gran Reserva 2008 750ml $69 special, 19 bottles available
Wine Advocate 97 Points “I was greatly impressed by the 2008 El Puntido Gran Reserva, a wine with a more traditional profile than the majority of wines from the Eguren family. At age 14, the wine is glorious, still young and with a mixture of primary and more developed notes. It goes more in the direction of the old wines, with balsamic notes of incense and cedarwood, mushrooms and some berries and herbs. It’s complex and elegant, with fully resolved tannins. This was bottled back in May 2011, so it’s been in bottle for over a decade, and the texture shows it. It has 14% alcohol and a pH of 3.55. This matured in brand-new French oak barrels for 28 months, and the wine has absorbed the oak completely.”

Espectacle Del Montsant 2018 750ml $119 special, 17 bottles available
Wine Spectator 98 Points “As with other wines, I also tasted the 2018 Espectacle del Montsant next to the 2017 to catch up, as I last tasted the region some 16 months ago. 2018 was a cooler year of slow ripeness, and the grapes achieved an amazing 16% alcohol. The wine is truly spectacular, true to its name. It has tons of violet notes and aromatic herbs, the palate is gentler, and the tannins are rounder, polished and elegant. It has full body but isn’t heavy. There is a lot of complexity, and the wine developed slowly in the glass, showing nuances of cereals, kirsch, orange peel and lots of spices and herbs. It’s opulent and full, deep and complex. Amazing in its style. Some 6,500 bottles produced.”

Sierra Cantabria Finca El Bosque Rioja 2019 750ml $139 special, 12 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 98 Points “The 2019 Finca el Bosque is another single vineyard and comes from a site on a deep, gravelly escarpment overlooking the Ebro River. It offers more ripe blue fruits and cassis as well as sappy herbs, flowers, violets, graphite, and chalky minerality. It shows a more elegant, flawlessly balanced, incredibly pure style on the palate, with ultra-fine tannins, wonderful overall balance, and no hard edges. This is pure class. Give bottles 3-4 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following two decades of more.

Terroir Al Limit Les Tosses Priorat 2014 750ml $219 special, 7 bottles available
Wine Advocate 98 Points “Already bottled in June 2016, slightly earlier as it usually spends two years in foudre to avoid excessive fatigue because of too much oxygen in the wine, the 2014 Les Tosses is pure Cariñena from an old vineyard on slate soils at some 650 meters altitude. There is none of the rusticity I often link to the grape, this is extremely floral and perfumed, with plenty of violets, a little earthy too. The palate is extremely balanced, and I don’t remember tannins as elegant as these in a Cariñena before. There is length, freshness and a very, very long finish. This might very well be the best vintage of Les Tosses so far. This wine feels very young and it’s a bit shy, but giving it time it is just amazing. It should be much better with a little more time in bottle. If you decide to pull the cork soon, make sure you give it some time to breathe. There are 1,946 bottles produced. The vineyard is almost two hectares, and Dominik Huber only used part of it for this bottling, and the rest goes to Torroja. But, his idea is to increase the volume so he’ll take longer to sell this vintage so he can keep the wine for one year longer in bottle before selling it. Smart thinking…”

Clos Erasmus Priorat 2019 750ml $228 special, 15 bottles available
Wine Advocate 98+ Points “The serious and powerful 2019 Clos Erasmus feels quite classical Priorat, with notes of graphite, black fruit and licorice; it’s a solid Priorat with weight, concentration and clout. There are still some smoke, toast and spice notes from the élevage—100% in barrel, some 40% of them new, for around 18 months—and the wine always needs a little bit of time in bottle. Despite the 15.5% alcohol, the wine comes through as balanced and with freshness, there is no heat or sensation of alcohol; you need the tannins and acidity to counterbalance the alcohol, and they are doing that here. This is more balsamic, aromatic and exuberant. It’s showy, hedonistic and rich, a solid Erasmus. The tannins are still quite present and need some more time to be resolved. 3,300 bottles were filled in May 2020.”

Bodegas Muga Aro 2019 750ml $349 special, 4 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 100 points “Pure magic, the 2019 Aro is 70% Tempranillo and 30% Graciano from a plant by plant selection of the Muga family’s oldest vines of Tempranillo, blended with a substantial portion of Graciano. This dense purple behemoth has a primordial bouquet of pure cassis, graphite, crushed stone, lead pencil, new leather, and hints of spring flowers. Building incrementally on the palate, with full-bodied richness, a huge mid-palate, and ripe, velvety tannins, this is one heavenly Rioja that deserves 7-8 years of bottle age and will age like a First Growth from Bordeaux. Hats off to the team at Muga for another incredible wine.”

Avancia Godello Cuvee De O 2019 750ml $18 special, 17 bottles available
Vinous 91 Points “Green-hued yellow-gold. Assertive aromas of fresh citrus and orchard fruits, along with hints of smoky lees, vanilla and melon in the background. Rich but impressively lively in the mouth, offering intense Anjou pear, white peach and Meyer lemon flavors underscored by a smoky mineral quality. Clings with strong tenacity on the penetrating finish, which leaves bitter citrus pith and floral notes behind.”

Avancia Mencia VV 2019 750ml $31.90 special, 36+ bottles available
James Suckling 92 Points “Dark plums, blackcurrants, grilled herbs, roasted coffee and smoked meat on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied with firm, velvety tannins. Smoky, rich and concentrated. Very smooth-textured. Drink or hold.”

Cuentavinas Cdvn Garnacha 2020 750ml $69 special, 16 bottles available
Guia Penn 94 Points “Style: taut;Colour: bright cherry; Aroma: complex, expressive, spicy, mineral, red berry notes, balsamic herbs;Flavour: elegant, full-bodied, long, great length;”

Galia Villages 2015 750ml $39 special, 21 bottles available
Wine Advocate 95 Points “The regular Galia has been renamed and is now the 2015 Villages since there are two more reds in the portfolio this year. It’s a blend of grapes from different soils in all the villages they work (Piquera de San Esteban, Fuentelcesped, Hontangas, Cuevas de Provanco and Trigueros del Valle), trying to represent the Duero Valley as a whole. It has an intoxicating, perfumed and really attractive nose full of flowers, wild herbs and spices. The palate is medium-bodied and has the elegance and poise the nose was pointing out, with ultra refined tannins, great balance and freshness. It has to be one of the most elegant wines produced from the Ribera del Duero zone, and it doesn’t show any of the heat from the warm and dry 2015 vintage … I was really blown away by this.”

Muga Anden La Estacion Rioja Crianza 2018 750ml $19 special, 36+ bottles available
Vinous 90 Points “Dark ruby. Ripe red fruits, vanilla and pipe tobacco on the nose, with spice and woodsmoke nuances emerging as the wine stretches out. Gently sweet and supple on the palate, offering juicy cherry liqueur and spicecake flavors braced by a spine of tangy acidity. Smooth tannins add shape and subtle grip to the persistent finish, which leaves a warm red fruit preserve note behind. Drink: 2022-2027.”

Casa Castillo Las Gravas Jumilla 2017 750ml $30.50 special, 24 bottles available
Wine Advocate 95 Points “The 2017 Las Gravas is surprisingly floral and ethereal, perfumed and elegant. Syrah has disappeared from the blend of this wine—it now has 20% Garnacha to complement the Monastrell—and they think this is going to be the blend that stays in this wine, which has seen more changes in its life than the rest of the portfolio. This is for sure the most elegant vintage for this bottling; the wine matured in 500-liter barrels and then spent four months in 5,000-liter vats after the blend was done. There are no aromas of oak whatsoever, and the wine is surprisingly fresh, as if the Garnacha helps to contain the power of Monastrell on the gravel soils, adding texture and perfume. This is beautiful. 26,500 bottles were filled in March 2019.”

Daniel Landi Las Uvas De La Ira 2018 750ml $31.90 special, 36+ bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 Points “The red 2018 Las Uvas de la Ira has been produced with Garnacha from the same five vineyards since the initial vintage (2012) in the village of El Real de San Vicente, which is one of the villages from Méntrida (Toledo) that are part of the Gredos Mountains. The vines range between 40 and 65 years of age, and they are located at around 750 meters in altitude on sandy granite soils with lots of silt. The different vineyards are fermented separately in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and a very gentle vinification, one-third with very long macerations to provide structure and depth, one-third with a very short maceration to provide fragrance, and the remaining third finished the fermentation without skins (like a white) to add juiciness. The élevage is in oak foudres of different sizes, from 1,500 to 4,000 liters.

Nin-Ortiz Planetes Classic 2017 750ml $49 special, 15 bottles available
Wine Advocate 95 Points “The 2017 Planetes de Nin comes from the four hectares of 20-year-old Garnacha and 11-year-old Cariñena in the Planetes vineyard in Porrera at 450 meters in altitude. It’s 60% Garnacha (some of it Peluda) and the rest Cariñena, harvested early. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in 3,200-liter oak vats and one 1,000-liter amphora for 17 months. It has depth and harmony, and the vines are getting older and seem to be better and better balanced. This is not that different from the 2016; it feels quite stable and has its style and character, especially since the 2015 vintage. 9,704 bottles were filled in April 2019.”

Lopez Heredia Tondonia Reserva Rioja 2009 750ml $59 special, 9 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 Points “As with many wines this time, I had two vintages to taste of the Reserva from the Tondonia vineyard, 2009 and 2008, two very different, almost opposite vintages. The 2009 Viña Tondonia Reserva, a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho and 5% each Mazuelo and Graciano, matured in used American oak barrels for six years. It has some toasted character, with ripe fruit, black rather than red, denoting a warm year but more restrained than the Bosconia Reserva from the same vintage. 2009 is a year of ripeness, concentration and tannin; the wines are powerful, but here you see the finesse of Tondonia in comparison to the more rustic Viña Bosconia. 220,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2017.”

It’s opulent and full, deep and complex. Amazing in its style. Some 6,500 bottles produced.”

Henri Bonneau CDP Celestins 2012 750ml $419 special, 4 bottles available
Wine Spectator 97 Points “This defines old school, with savory detail and notes of roasted chestnut, fresh tobacco leaf, cedar and brick dust leading off, backed by a core of currant, cherry and plum fruit flavors that is lightly dried yet nonetheless fresh and racy in feel. Singed juniper and bay leaf hints score the finish. Likely to hold just like this for some time. Best from 2020 through 2040.

Chapoutier Ermitage L’ermite Rouge 2013 750ml $249 special, 14 bottles available
Wine Spectator 97 Points “Sleek, with mouthwatering flavors of red currant, raspberry and cherry preserves forming the core, while a dusting of cocoa, a snap of red licorice and a long, lingering iron spine complete the picture. Very pure and focused. The minerality wins out in the end. Best from 2019 through 2032.

Clos Des Papes Chateauneuf Du Pape 2017 750ml $119 special, 9 bottles available
Vinous 95-96 Points “Shimmering violet. Pungent aromas of red and blue fruit preserves, potpourri and smoky minerals, along with a spicy nuance that builds as the wine opens up. Youthfully chewy and deeply concentrated, displaying sappy black raspberry, bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors and suggestions of candied lavender and licorice. Shows impressive finesse for its depth and finishes extremely long and precise, with building tannins that meld smoothly with the wine’s densely packed fruit.”

Delas Cote Rotie La Landonne 2019 1.5L $549 special, 3 Magnum bottles available
Decanter 97 Points “Immediately this has the darkness and aromatic austerity of La Landonne. Very full-bodied, expansive on the palate with mouthcoating flavour and tannin but not heavy. This is seriously tannic, but it’s not tough. Great character, great power and perfect balance. Alcohol is just a little raised, but this is a blockbuster. Around 3,000 bottles made. Fermented in open-top concrete tanks for 20 days, then matured in new and one-year-old barrels for 14 months. Drinking Window 2026 – 2035.”
Wine Spectator 96 Points “This is dark and still a bit reticent, with a cast iron cloak around the core of dark currant, plum and blackberry paste flavors, showing lots of sweet bay leaf, anise and singed apple wood notes in the background. There’s serious grip through the finish. For the cellar. Best from 2024 through 2038. 267 cases made, 40 cases imported.”

Delas Cote Rotie La Landonne 2019 750ml $279 special, 6 bottles available
Decanter 97 Points “Immediately this has the darkness and aromatic austerity of La Landonne. Very full-bodied, expansive on the palate with mouthcoating flavour and tannin but not heavy. This is seriously tannic, but it’s not tough. Great character, great power and perfect balance. Alcohol is just a little raised, but this is a blockbuster. Around 3,000 bottles made. Delas Hermitage Les Bessards 2019 750ml $219 special, 36+ bottles available
Delas Hermitage Les Bessards 2019 1.5L $449 special, 8 Magnum bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Points “My favorite release from this estate is consistently their Les Bessards Hermitage, and their 2019 is no exception. Coming from the western part and pure broken granite soils on the west side of this magical hill, it sports a dense purple hue to go with a brilliant perfume of cassis, graphite, scorched earth, burning embers, spring flowers, and peppery herbs. Incredibly complex, layered, and nuanced, with classic Hermitage characteristics, it still stays firmly planted in the ripe, sunny, sexy vintage. Full-bodied, concentrated, and structured on the palate, it has a wealth of tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish. This is pure Hermitage magic that needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years and will evolve for 20-30 years in cold cellars. Hats off to the team at Delas for another incredible wine.”

Delas Hermitage Ligne Crete Grandes Vignes 2019 750ml $299 special, 12 bottles available
Delas Hermitage Ligne Crete Grandes Vignes 2019 1.5L $619 special, 3 bottles available
Vinous 96-98 Points “Powerful, highly perfumed aromas of black/blue fruit liqueur, licorice, olive and potpourri are complemented by an exotic suggestion of incense. Stains the palate with intense boysenberry, cherry, cassis and spicecake flavors that deepen steadily through the midpalate. Shows a suave blend of power and delicacy and betrays no rough edges. Youthfully chewy tannins add shape to an extremely long, mineral-driven finish that delivers outstanding clarity and floral thrust.”

Garon Cote-Rotie Lancement 2020 750ml $189 special, 6 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 95-97 Points “The 2020 Côte Rôtie Lancement has more black fruits as well as some classic Côte Rôtie floral and mineral notes. This vineyard normally yields a more ethereal, feminine wine, but this is a powerful, dense, stacked barrel sample with plenty of fine grained tannins and a great finish.”

Garon Cote-Rotie Les Triotes 2016 1.5L $119 special, 3 Magnum bottles available
Vinous 92 Points “(40% new oak) Opaque ruby. Smoky, mineral-accented cherry and blueberry scents are complicated by hints of vanilla, Indian spices and licorice. Supple and broad on the palate, offering pliant blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter as the wine opens up. A sexy floral pastille note emerges on the clinging finish, which shows excellent clarity and gentle, slow-building tannins.”

Domaine Gourt De Mautens Vaucluse Igp 2015 1.5L $199 special, 3 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points “The Chambolle-Musigny of the Rhône, the 2015 IGP Vaucluse from Jerome Bressy is a totally sensational blend of 50% Grenache and the balance a mix of Mourvèdre, Carignan, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Cinsault, Syrah, and Terret Noir (we’re getting close to all the varieties). Aged in a mix of concrete tanks, foudre, demi-muids, and barrels, bottled unfined and unfiltered, this naked beauty has just about everything you could want from a bottle of wine. Notes of rose petals, kirsch, blackberries, garrigue, and spice all emerge from this pure, elegant and gorgeous red that offers full-bodied richness, no hard edges and a killer finish. It got more than a few Wows in my notes and is an ethereally textured southern Rhône that needs to be tasted to be believed. Anticipated maturity: 2017 – 2030.”

Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 2016 750ml $225 special, 5 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points “The 2016 Hermitage La Chapelle is slightly denser than the 2017 and is a bigger, richer, more structured wine than the La Maison Bleue. Crème de cassis, blackberries, crushed rocks, ozone, scorched earth, and violet notes all emerge from this beautifully classic, elegant, seamless wine that carries full-bodied richness, building tannins, and a big finish, all while staying in the classic, elegant, balanced style of the vintage. It has plenty of tannins and is a quintessential La Chapelle that will have three decades of longevity.”
James Suckling 97-98 Points “Very spicy and peppery with blue-granite aromas plus hints of grilled and smoked meat. Cloves and nutmeg. Full body, round and juicy tannins and a super spicy finish that almost burns with so much character yet turns fine and focused at the end. A beauty.”

Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 2017 750ml $189 special, 29 bottles available
Wine Advocate 98 Points “The 2017 Hermitage La Chapelle comes from the firm’s vineyards on the western half of the Hermitage slope, primarily Le Méal, but with substantial contributions from Les Rocoules and Les Bessards. Classic notes of cassis, black olives, mocha and roasted meat are joined by hints of baking spices in a wine that’s full-bodied, deep, dense and rich, with a velvety texture and a lingering finish. It’s lower in alcohol than the 2018, less voluptuous and maybe just a step behind that monumental wine, but it’s still a serious collectible with three decades of evolution ahead of it.”

Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 2019 750ml $199 special, 8 bottles available
Wine Advocate 98-100 Points “Might this be the next vintage of La Chapelle to crack triple digits? Knockout aromas of crushed stone, violets, blueberries, and cassis mark the nose of the 2019 Hermitage La Chapelle, while the full-bodied palate is undeniably more intense and powerful than the more elegant 2018. Rich and velvety, it coats the mouth with dark fruit and creamy-textured espresso, yet retains remarkable length and licorice-derived peppery freshness on the finish. Wow!”

Rene Rostaing Cote Rotie Cote Blonde 2020 750ml $219 special, 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 97-99 Points “My favorite of the 2020s from Rostaing—at least until I try the wines again next year—is the 2020 Cote Rotie la Cote Blonde. Scents of crushed stone and red raspberries give the impression of seamless transmission of terroir allied to incredible fruit purity. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it’s an amazing expression of Cote Rotie that should age effortlessly for a couple of decades.”
Vinous 98 Points “Saturated ruby. Potent, finely detailed aromas of red and dark fruit liqueur, smoked meat, potpourri and exotic spices, along with a vibrant mineral top note. Sappy, alluringly sweet and penetrating, offering intense cherry, boysenberry, allspice and star anise flavors and a potent suggestion of candied lavender. Silky, finely wrought tannins build steadily through an exceptionally long, penetrating finish that echoes the floral and mineral notes.”

Saint Cosme Gigondas Hominis Fides 2020 750ml $128 special, 16 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 97-100 Points “At the moment, the 2020 Gigondas Hominis Fides looks to be the standout of the three single vineyards, although all three are beautiful wines in the making. It certainly offers the most power and concentration, with lots of ground pepper, Provençal garrigue, violets, and loamy soils notes, as well as a darker cassis and berry-driven core of fruit. It builds beautifully on the palate, with ample structure, incredible balance, and a great, great finish.”

Vieux Telegraphe Cdp La Crau Rouge 2018 1.5L $189 special, 13 bottles available
James Suckling 96 Points “Traditionally dominated by clairette (45%) and grenache blanc (30%), then roussanne and bourboulenc. The vines average 50+ years and there’s a very restrained nose with dialed-back white-pear and chalk aromas with dried flowers, too. The palate has a super fresh, zippy feel and a long, juicy and attractive core of fresh, salty minerals. The balance is innate and very fluid. Drink or hold.”

Vieux Telegraphe Cdp La Crau Rouge 2020 3L $489 special, 1 bottle available
Vieux Telegraphe Cdp La Crau Rouge 2020 6L $899 special, 1 bottle available
James Suckling 96-97 Points “Such a deep and meaty nose with a slew of wild-herb, savory and subtle balsamic notes. Then comes the expansive and very concentrated palate , which reveals so many spicy nuances as it rolls over the palate, the stunning fine tannins pushing the finish out even further. A grenache-based blend from 60-year-old vines.”
