Staff Favorite Rosé from Torre dei Beati
Torre dei Beati’s ‘Rosa-ae’ is made in the cerasuolo style of rosé from Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes that’s traditional to the region. A staff favorite every year, we love it for its bold, easy-drinking style with surprising layers of complexity. Its name is derived from the Italian word for cherry and certainly lives up to that in both color and primary flavors. There’s an entire spectrum of red fruit, tropical fruit, and spices on display with a savory acid structure knitting everything together beautifully on the finish. 2024 is one of the finest vintages to date, offering a perfect pairing with richer summer foods, such as grilled meats and veggies, or spicy dishes like Thai and Chinese.

Torre dei Beati ‘Rosa-ae’ Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo 2024 750ml $24 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points “The 2024 Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Rosa-Ae is a deep translucent red hue with violet shadings. It lifts from the glass with an enticing bouquet of white cherries, wildflowers and chalk dust. The 2024 is energetic and crisply refreshing, with depths of ripe strawberry fruits and tactile mineral tones that add lovely traction toward the close. This has a long, tense finish, with pleasantly chewy tannins, nuances of cranberry and rosy inner florals. Vibrant and intense, the 2024 is a real winner.”

Domaine Drouhin Roserock Zephirine Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2022 750ml $64.50 special, 17 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 97 points “A richer red hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Zephine Roserock is also more floral and has some savory elements, but it also has a more pronounced dark stone mineral tone, with violets, black raspberries, tea leaf, and toasted spices. Medium-bodied, it’s ripe but has fantastic linear drive through its floral-noted finish, and the lift almost suggests whole cluster, yet it’s entirely destemmed. Drink it over the next 15 or more years.”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today, by a LOT. The average price is $104!
Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District 2022 750ml $49 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Decanter 92 points “Classically styled, this showcases ripe blackberry fruit, graphite and rich toasty oak spices, intertwined with perfumed florals. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly structured, with firm yet fine tannins that have impressive staying power. Crushed stone minerality builds alongside hints of white pepper and sage, carrying through to a long, refined finish. The blend includes 20% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Destemmed fruit, with winemaker Elizabeth Vianna employing extended skin contact and fermentation, primarily in stainless steel at cooler temperatures. The wine is then aged for 18 months in 40% new French oak. Drinking window 2025-2035.”

Billecart-Salmon Brut Le Rose, Champagne NV 750ml $96 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Billecart-Salmon Brut Le Rose, Champagne NV 375ml $56 special, 12 half-bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 92 points “With its ubiquitous pink label, Billecart’s NV Brut Rosé is one of the most recognizable bottles in all of Champagne. It is so important for wines like this to be good, as they are symbols for the region. This release is especially fine. Cranberry, pink grapefruit and white flowers caress the palate. Deep, pliant and so expressive, the Brut Rosé is terrific. There is a touch of angularity, but that is easy to look past for a Champagne that delivers so much pleasure.”

Domaine Marc Colin et Fils Bourgogne Chardonnay, Burgundy 2023 750ml $49 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “The astute reader will notice the singular “Vaillon” instead of the more commonplace “Les Vaillons” on Defaix’s label. The boundaries of this vineyard were extended in 1976 to take advantage of its popularity in the market, but the Defaix family owns a prime parcel of old vines (45 years of age) in the original cru–the Vaillon. The steep 28-degree gradient and iron-rich soils of this southeast-facing site render a wine of spicy richness, and Danny’s is a real powerhouse. Showing both remarkable concentration and excellent acidity, this wine has a luscious quality that contrasts gently with the more chiseled crus in his lineup.”

Teso La Monja ‘Almirez’, Toro 2022 750ml $33 special, 23 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 93 points “The 2022 Almirez checks in as 100% Tinta de Toro that’s all from vines planted between 1955 and 2000. This darker, full-bodied effort has loads of ripe red and black fruits as well as spice, herbs, chocolate, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. It’s plush and mouth-filling, with great purity and fine tannins, all making for a brilliant bottle of wine.

Filipa Pato ‘Dinamica’ Bical – Arinto, Bairrada 2023 750ml $18 special, 24 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “White wine. 80% Bical, 20% Arinto • chalky clay soil • whole-cluster pressed, 10% of the juice ferments and raises in 500L French-oak pipas, the rest in tank • Practicing Biodynamic (Demeter).”

Filipa Pato Nossa Calcario Bical, Bairrada 2023 750ml $39 special, 24 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 95 points “The super austere and mineral white 2023 Nossa Calcário Bical was produced with grapes from the village of Óis do Barro, a classical zone for whites in Bairrada, where they are located. It fermented in 500- and 600-liter barrels and a 2,000-liter oak vat with indigenous years and was put through full malolactic too, then kept for 10 months with the fine lees, which were not stirred. This is not about the fruit but about the soil. It has the profile of an austere white from Bairrada that I love so much, with a medium-bodied palate, purity and precision, balanced, with pungent flavors. 2023 saw a good crop, and it combined quantity and quality. This wine has 12.3% alcohol and notable freshness, denoted by a pH of 3.2. 10,266 bottles and 400 magnums were produced. It was bottled in June 2024.”

Filipa Pato Nossa Calcario Baga, Beiras 2022 750ml $41.90 special, 24 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 95 points “A pure baga made from really old vines, with a complex bouquet of cherries, violets, smoke and a touch of mixed herbs. This has incredible balance, combining concentration with fresh acidity and a subtle saline touch. Shows firm tannins and a chewy, concentrated finish. This is made from three 100- to 140-year-old vineyards planted on clay and limestone soil. The grapes are partially destemmed and fermented in open wood lagares. Aged for 12 to 18 months in 500- and 1,500-liter used oak barrels From biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter and Ecocert certified. Great now, but will improve over the next few years. Drink or hold.”

Bedrock Wine Co.
Morgan Twain-Peterson, owner and winemaker of Bedrock Wine Co. is a vanguard producer of the “New California” style. This movement pushes for more balanced, structured wines from a state where bigger has too often been used as shorthand for better. The results are thrilling, especially for lovers of European wines, but never lacking in layers of flavor.
Although Twain-Peterson was born into the Californian wine industry (his father Joel Peterson founded Ravenswood) he comes by his passion and vision are very much his own. He’s blazing his own, very opinionated and talented trail, focusing on the preservation of California’s heritage vineyards and their wines.
The focus is ancient vines of Zinfandel, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo, Alicante Bouschet, Valdigué, Peloursin, and Petit Bouschet, to name a few. These vines, in Twain-Peterson’s view, represent so much more than California’s history. They represent a wine that is uniquely Californian, a style not to be found or replicated anywhere else in the world. He repeats again and again that wines are made in the vineyard—and he’s got a remarkable collection of them.
This is could well be California’s future. The resulting wines aren’t shy, but the surprising aromatics and spice notes are delicate and only get better with time. They’ve got the fruit and depth that you would expect from California, but they’re tight, structured and will reward patience.

Bedrock Wine Co. Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County 2023 750ml $24 special, 19 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “We have been extremely pleased with the consistently high quality of Sauvignon Blanc from Bedrock Vineyard despite the relative youth of the blocks it comes from. This is, no doubt, thanks to the deft hand of our viticulturist Jake Neustadt and foreman Alberto Rojas, who have been careful to keep the prolific variety well-balanced. Made completely from the Musqué clone to allow better aromatic development at lower potential alcohols, the fruit was whole-cluster pressed, then barrel fermented in a combination of Austrian and French oak barrels, a portion of which were new. The Sauvignon Blanc from Bedrock is blessed with an enormous amount of natural vibrancy thanks to its low 3.05 pH, so the barrels help to build texture and amplitude via lees contact. This balances the exotic passion fruit, mango, and lemon curd aromatics with dense and refreshing fruit. This is one of my favorite SBs we have made.”

Bedrock Wine Co. Pato Vineyard Heritage, Contra Costa County 2021 750ml $49 special, 3 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 points “The 2021 Pato Vineyard Heritage Wine is dark and brooding from the outset. Black cherry, gravel, incense, licorice, dried herbs, menthol, tobacco and cured meats are all amplified. In 2021, the Pato is mostly Zinfandel, with a big chunk of Petite Sirah, and it is the Petite that very much drives the overall feel.”

Bedrock Wine Co. Bien Nacido Vineyard ‘X-Block’ Syrah, Santa Maria Valley 2022 750ml $59 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Decanter 95 points “This fragrant Syrah is sourced from two sites in the chilly coastal pocket of the Bien Nacido vineyard in the Santa Maria valley: the X block planted in 1973 and the higher elevation Z block planted in 1990. Despite its lean frame, it’s a glistening, lipsmacking wine with cutting blackberry and cassis flavours. Nervy and revitalising, with a cool, granitic undertow. (Drink between 2024-2036).”

We at Vinopolis love a good bargain, and for that we regularly turn to Beaujolais. Could there be a more perfect red? We’re not so sure. It’s certainly one of the most flexible for the money (we can’t drink Oregon Pinot every day!).
When daughter and son team Claude-Emmanuel and Louis-Benoit took over in the early aughts, they revolutionized the estate. Now 100% of the production is estate-bottled and crafted in a more serious (read: Burgundian) style with an eye towards capturing terroir, proper maturity, extended fermentations, and longevity in the bottle. The resulting wines have been never better, and we think you’ll agree.

William Kelley-Wine Advocate 90 points “Aromas of cherries, smoky berries and plums preface the 2021 Morgon Chāteau Gaillard, a medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping wine with a sweet core of fruit, lively acids and an open, giving profile. Cropped at a yield of 17 hectoliters per hectare as a result of frost, it was entirely destemmed this year.”

Neal Martin-Vinous 92-94 points “The 2023 Morgon Chāteau-Gaillard comes from vines planted in 1920 and 1952. This is very cohesive on the nose, with more black fruit than the Montpelain and just a subtle reduction at play. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, very focused, gaining density toward the finish with a dash of black pepper that prolongs length. Outstanding. (Drink between 2026-2039).”

Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Corcelette 2023 750ml $29 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 89-91 points “The 2023 Morgon Corcelette comes from the lieu-dit of Vermont, located higher up the slope. Redcurrant, hints of tomato vine and sous-bois unfurl on the well-defined nose. The palate is fleshy with red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, sapid and fresh with admirable depth on what I feel will become an open finish. One to watch. (Drink between 2026-2035).”

Neal Martin-Vinous 90-92 points “The 2023 Morgon Javernières has a deep and rounded nose, black cherries mixing with wild strawberries and oyster shells. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid, black-olive-tinged dark berry fruit, easing off toward the slightly confit-like finish. This is such a comely Morgon that it will be nearly impossible to resist in its youth. (Drink between 2026-2037).”

Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon La Voute St Vincent 2023 750ml $21.90 special, 4 bottles in stock now
“The 2023 Morgon La Voûte Saint-Vincent comes from a blend of parcels in the north of the appellation. A little closed on the nose, it offers tightly wound red fruit and remains inhibited. The palate is more expressive with grainy tannins, sapid red fruit and orange rind toward the linear finish. It will require a couple of years in bottle, but it comes across a bit “grumpier” than the other cuvées from this producer. (Drink between 2026-2034).” -Neal Martin, Vinous

Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Chateau Gaillard 2023 750ml $29 special, 9 bottles in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 92-94 points “The 2023 Morgon Chāteau-Gaillard comes from vines planted in 1920 and 1952.

Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes Morgon Javernieres 2023 750ml $36 special, 4 bottles in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 90-92 points “The 2023 Morgon Javernières has a deep and rounded nose, black cherries mixing with wild strawberries and oyster shells.

Clos i Terrasses Clos Erasmus ‘Laurel’, Priorat DOCa 2018 1.5L $149 special, 1 magnum in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 96 points “The second wine here and one that is easier to drink, the 2018 Laurel was produced with fruit from the younger vines, a couple of barrels that are declassified from Clos Erasmus and the Cabernet Sauvignon, more or less 70% Garnacha and 15% each Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has good ripeness and still a pH of 3.3. It fermented mostly in oak vats and 2,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured for 18 months in 20,000-liter oak and concrete vats, second use barriques and some clay amphorae. It’s a bright translucent ruby color and has a perfumed and delicate nose with notes of orange peel and flowers; this is the most elegant and ethereal vintage of Laurel as far as I can remember, with red rather than black fruit and a kind of cranberry quality. The palate is medium-bodied, textured and fluid, with subtleness, balance and very fine tannins. The oak is perfectly integrated, and the wine is easy to drink, approachable and very pleasurable right now. It’s a fresh vintage with energy and finesse, quite different from previous vintages. I love it. 22,825 bottles and 515 magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2020.”

A Chingao Vineyards & Envinate ‘Albahra Chingao’, Castilla La Mancha 2022 1.5L $89 special, 3 magnums in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 94 points “I also tasted the 2022 Albahra Chingao, pure Garnacha Tintorera vinified and bottled without any added sulfur after eight months in concrete. They did a softer vinification; it is always quite soft, but they tried to do even less, and the wine is a little lighter. I did notice the tannins a bit more. The wine is one year younger than the 2021 and needs some more time in bottle. It’s clean and precise and nothing points to a lack of added sulfur; there’s no oxidation or deviation whatsoever. It’s more and more evident that this can be done, as there are more and more examples of wines like this. So, there are no more excuses for wines with faults or deviations… I think this has to be the finest vintage for this cuvée so far… Bravo! 2,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.”
Envinate ‘Lousas’ Vina de Aldea, Galicia 2020 1.5L $88 special, 1 magnum in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 93+ points “The 2020 Lousas Viñas de Aldea is slightly higher in alcohol and has less freshness than the 2019. It was a very early harvest (September 2nd to 14th), and they kept 20% of the wine in concrete and the rest in oak barrels and 2,000-liter oak foudres for 11 months. The grapes were very small, so the ratio of juice to skin was different from 2019. The wines from 2020 had less maceration and more stems; they have more bones but are still fluid, with some dusty tannins. 22,500 bottles and 400 magnums produced. It was bottled in November 2021.”

Envinate ‘Lousas’ Vina de Aldea, Galicia 2022 1.5L $89 special, 1 magnum in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 93-94 points “The sample of the 2022 Lousas Viñas de Aldea was in stainless steel, blended and sulfured and waiting to be bottled in a couple of months. Most 2022s are more immediate than the 2021s, and this is floral, perfumed and expressive, with a juicy and round palate. They now have more vineyards in general, so they compensated the lower yields with more land under vine. The 2022s have turned out fresher and cooler than what the conditions of the year pointed out. There will be some 25,000 bottles of this. Even though it’s a lower-yielding year, they had more vineyards.”

Envinate ‘Lousas’ Vina de Aldea, Galicia 2023 1.5L $99 special, 3 magnums in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 94-96 points “I tasted a very promising barrel sample of the 2023 Lousas Viñas de Aldea, cropped from a more Atlantic, cooler and rainier year (especially when compared with the super warm and dry 2022). Right now, it’s super primary (the blend will have some 40% to 45% wine from concrete), and they are slowly introducing larger oak foudres (3,000 liters) and lowering the impact of the oak in the wine. This has very good freshness, purity and elegance, reminiscent of past vintages like 2021 or 2016. It has terrific balance. There will be around 32,000 bottles that should be filled in November 2024.”
