Wine of the Day: Cameron ‘Saignee of Pinot Noir’ 2014 6-11-16

cameronsaigneeCameron ‘Saignee of Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($21.95) Buy Now: $18 special

This is a pretty wine from every perspective. For starters, it’s another episode in the series of sub-$25 selections from Cameron which have been a hit this year. Then there’s the contrast of the ruby-rose juice and the electric-teal label that has my graphics receptors feeling all fuzzy… We haven’t even opened the bottle yet!

The saignee method entails ‘bleeding off’ the juice after limited contact with the skins – in this instance, of Pinot Noir. In this case, the resultant wine has some nice body to it, with lush cherry elements, rhubarb, strawberry, and a perfect little kiss of white pepper. We can’t get enough of it personally, but are happy to share our staff for rose-lovers and Cameronites nationwide! … Read the rest

Wine of the Day: Clos Cibonne ‘Cuvee Tradition’ Rosé 2014 6-6-16

cinbonneroseClos Cibonne Cotes de Provence Cuvee Tradition Rose, Provence 2014 750ML ($29.95) Buy Now: $24 special

I only suggest this wine if you’re okay with having your entire rosé world rocked to its core. Really! We’ve got a game changer here, folks.

Clos Cibonne sits handsomely along the coast in Provence; this, their signature wine, is fermented in stainless steel before spending 12-18 months in hundred-year-old casks under fleurette, or a thin layer of yeasts. This unique manner of élevage makes for a textured, hugely complex wine of great versatility. Nectarine and mandarine orange fruit come across in the medium-bodied, honey-tinged wine; the finish is long and floral. – Tyler

Wine of the Day: Crowley Rose of Pinot Noir 2015 6-4-16

Crowley Rose of Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2015 750ML ($24.95) Buy Now: $18 special

crowley roseWelcome summer with the first ever release of Crowley Rose!  This wine shows poise, balance and thought.  It opens with a bright, fresh nose of white cranberries and dried ginger.  On the palate is again a lovely red berry note with touches of fresh milk and black tea.

This rose is from the coolest single block in the Four Wines Vineyard.  It was whole cluster pressed and underwent a slow malolactic fermentation (finishing at 13.68% alcohol and 3.4-3.5 pH for those inquiring minds).

The Four Winds Vineyard is within the McMinnville Coast Range.  Planted in 1990 to 100% Pommard clone, the vines are all own-rooted.  The soil is Jory-Nekiah (uplifted marine sedimentary loam and silts with alluvial overlays – an ideal soil type for Oregon Pinot Noir). … Read the rest

Elevee Martin Rose 2015Another fine rose from Tom Fitzgerald at Elevee Vineyards, who is the winemaker and GM at Alloro Vineyards.  The wine is all estate-grown Pinot Noir.  It’s just a touch lighter than the ’14, the palate shows wonderful red berry notes, racy acid and just a little something that says, “hmm, I need another sip…” Perfect summer sipper. Try with shellfish, aged cheeses, and roasted vegetables.

Now, if summer would only start! Cheers!

Wines of the Day: Lillet Aperitif Blanc and Rose NV 5-9-2016

Lillet Rose Aperitif ($21.95) Buy Now: $18.90 special

Lillet Blanc Aperitif ($23.95) Buy Now: $19.90 special

Lillet+Lillet“The two Lillet aperitifs come from the Bordeaux region of France using regional grapes.  The base wine is matured in oak and flavored with sweet and bitter oranges.  The aperitifs are less bitter in flavor than most with a gentle sweetness that is not cloying.  The Rose incorporates some of the Rouge for color and has a pretty strawberry and lemon aroma.  The Blanc has a more focused citrus aroma.  I enjoy both over ice with a spritz of lemon and seltzer.” -Suzanne

Winery note “The main grape variety in Lillet Blanc is Sémillon, which gives it a full, fleshy structure and a smooth, fruity taste with aromas of candied oranges, honey, pine resin and exotic fruits.… Read the rest
