New Wines from Joseph Drouhin & DDO

Domaine Drouhin Oregon

Domaine Drouhin Oregon is one of the landmark names in the Willamette Valley. They were the original “French import”, long before Meo-Camuzet, Jadot or Liger-Belair thought the region was worth investing in, and they’ve been an important player ever since. While they’re best known for their original vineyard in the Dundee Hills, their ‘Roserock’ estate in the Eola-Amity Hills has been quietly making some of the best wines in the DDO portfolio in recent years.

Emanuel Darnaud’s Soulful Syrah

Emanuel Darnaud has been one of our favorite surprises of the past few years. Relatively new to Vinopolis, this small producer makes spectacular reds from the Northern Rhône -wines that have become some of our best deals when in stock. From top to bottom, the Darnaud wines over-perform, with density, power and drinkability. So it came as no surprise when we sold out of most of our stock, leaving just one bottling remaining: the 2016 Au Fil du Temps.

Santa Duc’s Regal Reds

Gigondas is the finest source of value for profound wine in the Rhône. The top estates deliver wines that compete with the very best wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but at prices that are a fraction of their peers. Our Subscriber Special today, Santa Duc, is one of the very best in the region.

Santa Duc is perhaps the only estate who can match Saint Cosme as the “Most Important Winery in Gigondas”.

Nicolas Maillart: Staff Favorite Champagne

Nicolas Maillart’s family has a grape-growing tradition in Champagne that dates back to at least the 18th century -some documents indicate the family has been farming grapes since the 1500s. However it wasn’t until 2003 that Nicolas started his namesake winery. Based in the Montagne de Reims, the winery has a variety of excellent holdings in premier and grand cru villages, including an ungrafted parcel of Pinot Noir that informs their top wine.
