Peter Lauer’s Rieslings from the Saar aren’t just admired—they’re obsessed over. Few estates anywhere in Germany achieve this level of precision, tension, and sculpted finesse. These wines feel laser-etched, driven by crystalline acidity and an almost architectural sense of structure, yet they retain a remarkable elegance and purity. They’re wines that don’t shout; they cut straight through the noise with clarity and purpose, revealing layers of slate, citrus, herbs, and cool-toned fruit with breathtaking focus.
The Saar itself is part of the magic. Colder, steeper, and more wind-exposed than much of the Mosel, it produces wines that feel nervy and alive, with a distinctive mineral core that defines great bottles from this valley. But this same environment also means vulnerability, and the recent vintages have been especially challenging. Both 2023 and 2024 saw significantly reduced yields across the Saar—nature imposed scarcity on a region already known for small production. Fewer grapes meant even stricter selection, concentrating quality but drastically limiting quantity.
That reality has had consequences in the market. Lauer was never a secret among collectors, but demand has soared at precisely the moment supply has tightened. Across the U.S., these bottles have become harder to secure, appearing briefly and then disappearing into cellars. They’ve entered that “cult realm” where allocations matter, releases are watched closely, and even seasoned Riesling lovers can find themselves empty-handed.
Which is why the current availability at Vinopolis is something to genuinely celebrate. While the rest of the country is scrambling for scraps, we are fortunate to have a meaningful selection of Lauer’s wines—including those small-yield, high-intensity 2023 and 2024 releases. If you love Riesling in its most refined, most exacting, and most thrilling form, this is your moment. Opportunities like this don’t linger—especially not with wines this precise, this limited, and this profoundly compelling.
“This is the Saar and Florian Lauer is currently one of the greatest winemakers in this sacred place… Employing natural-yeast fermentations, Lauer’s wines find their own balance. They tend to be more textural, deeper and more masculine. They have a preternatural sense of balance, an energy that is singular. “Yet the hallmarks of the Saar are there: purity, precision, rigor, mineral.” – Vom Boden

It offers a nicely aromatic and attractive nose of yellow peach, spices, bergamot, violet, lemon, and pear. The wine coats the palate with a mix of yellow, slightly riper fruits, and zesty elements. There is a touch of smoothness, but the finish is fresh and nicely balanced. This is a very attractive off-dry Riesling. Now-2034.” Peter Lauer Ayler Riesling Fass 25 Trocken, Mosel 2024 750ml Displayed Price $31.90, that’s $30.30 at 5% off and $28.71 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now Anne Krebiehl MW-Vinous 90 points “The 2024 Riesling trocken No. 25 was picked in the southeast-facing sites of Scheidterberg and Rauberg. Lemon balm and lemon come with a lovely overtone of cumin on the nose. The palate almost has an earthy vibe, a stony backdrop and a beautiful phenolic concentration reminiscent of apples and hops. This is bone-dry and light, yet it still has exquisite fill and substance. (Bone-dry) (Drink between 2025-2035).” Peter Lauer Ayler Kupp Fass 7 Riesling Spatlese, Mosel 2024 750ml Displayed Price $44.50, that’s $42.27 at 5% off and $40.05 at 10% off, 3 bottles in stock now Mosel Fine Wines 93-95 points “The 2024 Kupp Spätlese N°7, as it is referred to in the central part of the label, was made from fruit harvested from vineyards on the original Kupp hill and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (67 g/l). This cask sample delivers a beautifully aromatic, ripe, and precise nose of tangerine, mango, yellow peach, pineapple, orange zest, and smoke, all wrapped into bakery notes. The wine has great concentration and presence on the palate, not unlike that of a richer Auslese. It has great length and intensity in the very long, rich, yet well balanced finish. It has a great kick of acidity in the very long after-taste. 2034-2054.” Peter Lauer Fass 8 Ayler Kupp Riesling Kabinett, Mosel 2024 750ml Displayed Price $36, that’s $34.20 at 5% off and $32.40 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now Mosel Fine Wines 93 points “The 2024 Kupp Kabinett N°8, as it is referred to in the central part of the label, was made from fruit harvested on the original Kupp hill and was fermented down to fully off-dry levels of residual sugar (31 g/l). It initially proves still quite reductive, but quickly shows great complexity and freshness of spearmint, lime, white peach, spices, freshly cut herbs, herbal tea, and wet stone. The wine proves light-weighted and very pure on the palate and leaves an off-dry rather than fully fruity, long finish. This is a great drinking Kabinett. 2032-2044.” Peter Lauer ‘Kern’ Ayler Kupp Fass 9 Riesling, Mosel 2024 750ml Displayed Price $54.50, that’s $51.77 at 5% off and $49.05 at 10% off, 12 bottles in stock now Mosel Fine Wines 94 points “The 2024 ‘Kern’ N°9, as it is referred to in the central part of the label, is a fully off-dry wine (with 30 g/l of residual sugar) made from fruit harvested in a complete cross section (bottom to top) of a prime south-west-facing old-vine parcel (called Kern) situated well into the side valley on the original Ayler Kupp hill. It offers a beautifully complex and very attractive nose mixing fresh and minty elements with riper notes of yellow and almost tropical fruits, including passion fruit, tangerine, and mango, all wrapped in smoky scents from its spontaneous fermentation. The wine proves focused and zesty on the palate and proves even light-weighted yet intense and layered. The finish is even taut and quite spicy. This is really superb. 2029-2049.” Peter Lauer ‘Neuenberg’ Fass 17 Riesling 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $44.50, that’s $42.28 at 5% off and $40.05 at 10% off, 1 bottles in stock now Mosel Fine Wines 90+ points “The 2022er Neuenberg N°17, as it is referred to in the central part of the label, is a barely off-dry wine (with 12 g/l of residual sugar) made from fruit picked in this prime Lieu-Dit forming the south-southwest facing, central part of the original Kupp hill (at the foot of the hill). It offers a very aromatic and rich nose of William’s pear, smoke, anise, thyme, violet, lime tree, and cherry. The wine is both juicy but also directly zesty and spicy, with a touch of tartness and earthy spices. There is good presence and structure and the finish proves intense and broad. It is a great barely off-dry Riesling, which needs a few years to reveal its facets. It even has some upside potential with time. 2025-2034.”

Smoky and finely herbal on the nose, it delivers notes of anise, minty herbs, vineyard peach, jasmine, rose, lavender, and green apple. The wine proves delicately smooth and rich on the nicely compact and focused palate. The finish is precise, clean, and full of energy. This is a splendid Spätlese. 2032-2052.”
Peter Lauer Riesling Kupp Fass 7 Spätlese 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 7 bottles in stock now Mosel Fine Wines 93 points “The 2023 Kupp Spätlese N°7, as it is referred to in the central part of the label, with AP 71 was made from fruit harvested at 90° Oechsle from vineyards on the original Kupp hill and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (67 g/l). This hay-yellow-colored wine offers a rather subtle and very complex nose made of earthy spices, pear, apricot blossom, a hint of date, cream, and smoke. It proves very subtle and elegant on the palate, where a touch of zest brings the right kick to the complex creamy and fruity flavors. The finish is subtly racy, delicately creamy, and, above all, hugely satisfying. This is a great under-toned but complex expression of Spätlese in the making. 2033-2048.”
Peter Lauer Ayler Riesling Fass 77 Spätlese 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $34.50, that’s $32.78 at 5% off and $31.05 at 10% off, 9 bottles in stock now Mosel Fine Wines 93 points “The 2023 Ayler Spätlese N°77, as it is referred to in the central part of the label, was made from clean but overripe fruit harvested at 87° Oechsle from vineyards on the different hills in Ayl and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (70 g/l). This yellow-hay-colored wine offers a rather ostentatious and hugely appealing nose made of pineapple, coconut, rose water, whipped cream, and fine earthy spices. It is gorgeously engaging and racy on the palate, where the exotic side is joined by some fresh apricot. The finish is precise, engaging, and hugely long. This exotic expression of Spätlese is hugely appealing. 2038-2043.”

A wonderfully complex nose offers a hint of cocoa butter with a touch of cumin. The rounded palate delivers lemon-filled freshness with a slight phenolic frame, flowing with energy that tapers towards a lemon zestiness on the long finish.”
Peter Lauer Riesling Feils Fass 13 GG 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $54.50, that’s $51.77 at 5% off and $49.05 at 10% off, 6 bottles in stock now Vinous 94 points “The 2023 Riesling Biebelhausener Feils Grosses Gewächs No. 13 comes from a warmer south-facing site on the river. Beautiful creaminess of peach with a touch of passionfruit foliage and lemon balm charms in the glass. The palate mirrors this smooth creaminess and purity of flavors, exuding serenity. Very elegant with just a touch of pithiness on the finish.”
Peter Lauer Riesling Stirn Fass 15 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $46.50, that’s $44.17 at 5% off and $41.85 at 10% off, 3 bottles in stock now Vinous 96 points “The 2023 Riesling Ayler Kupp Stirn No. 15, picked on the crest of the Ayler Kupp at almost 275 meters, benefits from a south-facing but cool and ventilated location. Old vines yield tiny grapes and an airy sense of ripe peach and apricot rises dreamily from the glass. The palate frames this in rock and salty savor, yet the bright, sunny note of stone fruit shines and charms with immense purity. Deeply anchored in stone, it takes off. Absolutely lip-smacking.”
