Vinopolis Champagne of the Year

Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2009 750ML ($149.95) $119 special, 26 bottles available
Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2009 1.5L ($299.95) $269 special, 1 magnum available
Antonio Galloni 95 points “The flagship 2009 Brut Les Chétillons looks like it will reward readers with a long and broad drinking window of pure pleasure. The warmth of the vintage has given the 2009 Chétillons a bit more mid-palate richness and sweetness than is typical, yet there is plenty of Mesnil drive and precision in the glass. Dense, powerful and explosive, the 2009 hits all the right notes. Best of all, it won’t need years in bottle to come together. Dosage is 4.7 grams/liter. Disgorged: February 2015.”

We wish our customers a very happy holiday seasons and a wonderful close to the year.

Ring in the New Year with these
Fantastic Champagnes!

Below are 30 of the 129 Champagnes we have available here now. It’s like picking between children, but somehow we narrowed it down:

Andre Clouet Brut Millesime 2008 750ML ($69.95) $49 special (was $59), 6 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Clouet’s 2008 Brut Millesime shows quite a bit more tension and focus than the 2007, hardly a surprise given then personality of the vintage. Bright, saline notes frame expressive red fruits, flowers and sweet spices. The 2008 Brut is a gorgeous wine with plenty of appeal today, but it will also develop beautifully in bottle. Stylistically it is less overt than the 2007 but places more emphasis on length. Brut Millesime is mostly Pinot, with 30-40% Chardonnay.” AG

Andre Clouet Silver Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature NV 750ML ($39.95) $36 special, 36+ bottles available
Case-12 Andre Clouet Silver Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature NV 750ML ($449.95) $399 special, 2 cases available (that’s only $33.25/bottle!)
Antonio Galloni 91 points “The NV Brut Nature Silver is naturally a very focused, driven wine given the no-dosage style. This shows wonderful nuance and depth all the way through to the long finish, with bright aromas and flavors but less of the toastiness than some of the house’s other wines. The mousse and finish are both utterly impeccable in their elegance.” AG

Benoit Dehu ‘La Rue des Noyer’ NV (2011) 750ML ($199.95) $99 special, 20 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “Benoit Déhu’s NV (2011) Cuvée La Rue des Noyers is one of the most impressive wines I tasted this year. A vivid and crystalline Champagne, the Cuvée La Rue des Noyers possesses stunning depth, intensity and volume. The green notes of the vintage are present, but they are pretty much buried by the opulence of the fruit. Mint, savory herbs and crushed flowers are some of the many notes that are laced into a finish gently shaped by vinification in oak. What a gorgeous expression of Pinot Meunier this is. Dosage is 1 gram per liter”

Bollinger R.D. Extra Brut 2002 750ML ($399.95) $333 special, 1 bottle available
James Suckling 99 points “Super fresh, this is striking given the 10 years in the cellars; it has a fine citrus nose – plenty of lemon, grapefruit, yellow chalky notes, some lighter floral elements too. The palate is super dry (dosage at 3-4g) and there’s a silky, sherbet-like texture, smooth, fine and long. The citrus flavours give way to the driving surging acidity, thunderous acidity, really driving and powerful. The finish twists very slowly through to light-toasted cashew fruit flavours, but lemon citrus prevails. This is thrilling Champagne.” JS

Dom Perignon 2005 750ML ($179.95) $149 special, 6 bottles available
James Suckling 97 points “I believe that the 2005 DP is the best since 2002, which remains the best recent vintage and is probably only eclipsed by the amazing 100-point 1996. The 2005 is a full-bodied DP with so much richness and loads of ripe fruit such as pineapple and papaya. It has a wonderful, creamy texture and a long and intense finish. It’s a Champagne that fully satisfies but at the same time challenges you with its strength, depth and persistence on the palate.”

Dom Perignon 2006 750ML ($179.95) $149 special, 6 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 97 points “The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. After an irregular summer that saw elevated temperatures in July followed by cooler, damp conditions in August, more favorable weather returned in September, pushing maturation ahead and leading to a long, protracted harvest. The 2006 falls into the family of riper, more voluptuous Dom Pérignons, but without veering into the level of opulence seen in vintages such as 2002.”
Richard Juhlin 94(97) points (English translation) ‘It’s not often you fall backwards when a wine is first launched on the market. This time both me and my friends, who got to try this jewel at my champagne bar, fell in love instantly. It is all here so beautifully orchestrated in this incredibly well-balanced and flowing rich symphony. It is so voluptuously charming and welcoming immediately, but at the same time so complex that the interest in what you will discover in the next gulp never ceases. Here are all the pillars that I perceive a Dom Pérignon should have. A gigantic large and intense aroma, a silk caressing structure and a dazzling grand finale. Notes from the sea, roasted nuts, coffee, brioche, tropical green fruits, stone fruit, green apples, sweet orange citrus, gunpowder, nougat, mushroom cream and black truffle are all there like a perfectly tailored tuxedo. Love at first sight.’

Fleury Pere et Fils ‘Cepages Blancs’ Blanc de Blancs Brut Millesime 2004 750ML ($99.95) $69 special, 16 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 points “Another gorgeous wine, the 2004 Brut Cepages Blancs (Chardonnay) is stunningly beautiful. Rich, deep and layered, the 2004 comes alive in the glass. Lemon, dried flowers and hazelnuts wrap around the palate as this complex, utterly beguiling wine shows off its considerable personality and pedigree. Chalky notes frame the finish. This is without question one of the very best wines I have ever tasted from Fleury.”WA

Case-12 Pierre Gimonnet et Fils Blanc de Blancs Cuis Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($499.95) $399 special, 2 cases available (that’s only $33.25/bottle!)
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “Pale green. High-pitched citrus fruit and floral scents, along with intense mineral and spice nuances. Dry and seamless on the palate, offering juicy lemon, tarragon and ginger flavors and a deeper suggestion of buttered toast. Finishes on a zesty minerally note, with lingering spiciness and strong persistence. This bottling is a blend of wines from 2011 (77%), 2010 (6%), 2009 (12%), 2007 (4%) and 2006 (1%).” JR

Jean Vesselle Oeil de Perdrix Blanc de Noirs Brut NV 375ML ($29.95) $26 special, 36+ half-bottles available
Antonio Galloni 93 points “Jean Vesselle’s NV Brut Oeil de Perdrix is fabulous. Rich and textured to the core, the Oeil de Perdrix captures the beauty of Bouzy Pinot to the core. Bright chalky notes give the wine its sense of energy and tension. Red berries, stone fruits, chalk, white pepper and crushed flowers are some of the notes that inform the finish. There is so much to like here” AG

The magnum and half-bottle are the lowest listed prices in the USA today!

J.L. Vergnon Expression Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut Millesime 2006 750ML ($79.95) $69 special, 23 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 93 points “Vivid yellow. Mineral-driven pear skin, jasmine and anise scents are given depth and power by notes of yellow plum and buttered toast. The palate offers intense, deeply concentrated citrus and orchard fruit flavors, with suggestions of brioche and orange pith gaining strength with air. The mineral quality adds definition to the finish, which clings with excellent persistence and a lingering floral quality.” ST

Gaston Chiquet Special Club Grand Cru Brut Millesime 2005 750ML ($79.95) $69 special, 6 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 92 points “(70% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir; aged for more than six years on its lees and disgorged in September, 2012): Light yellow. Vibrant cherry pit, blood orange and smoky minerals on the nose. Dry, tightly wound and focused, offering deeply pitched red fruit and citrus zest flavors that pick up smokiness and energy with air. Closes with serious power and lift, leaving sexy floral and toasty lees notes behind.” ST

Jose Michel Brut Tradition NV 750ML ($39.95) $33 special, 25 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “(70% Pinot Meunier and 30% Chardonnay; 9 g/l dosage): Light yellow-gold. Fresh tangerine, pear and sweet butter on the fragrant nose. Smooth and weighty in the mouth, offering pliant orchard fruit and melon flavors and a bracing kick of bitter citrus zest. A minerally element adds lift and cut to the penetrating finish, which leaves a suave floral note behind.” JR

Krug Grande Cuvee NV 750ML ($189.95) $149 special, 8 bottles available
Wine Spectator 95 points “Rich, with smoky hints of roasted almond and toasted brioche, this crystalline Champagne offers a finely detailed mousse that carries the firm, citrusy acidity and flavors of patisserie apple, spun honey and tangy black cherry, accented by subtle, aromatic hints of ground cumin and clove, bergamot and chamomile. Disgorged August 2013. Drink now through 2027.” WS

L. Aubry Premier Cru Brut Cru NV 750ML ($39.95) $33 special, 36+ bottles available
Case-12 L. Aubry Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($449.95) $349 special, 5 cases available (that’s only $29.08/bottle and the lowest listed price in the USA today!)
L. Aubry Premier Cru Brut NV 1.5L ($119.95) $89 special, 9 magnums available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “(45% pinot meunier, 25% pinot noir and 25% chardonnay, with the rest arbanne, petit meslier and fromenteau; disgorged in April, 2013): Bright straw. Pungent aromas of Meyer lemon, pear and fig, with a gingery accent adding lift. Sappy, penetrating citrus fruit and floral flavors are given a refreshingly bitter character by notes of pear skin and peach pit, with a waxy note coming up on the back half. A smoky nuance lingers on the finish, which shows very good clarity and length. Fifty-five percent of this blend is from 2010 and the rest is reserve wines, mostly from a solera that was begun in 1998.” JR

The magnum is also the lowest listed price in the USA today!

P.Lancelot-Royer Cuvee des Chevaliers Blanc de Blancs NV 750ML ($59.95) $49 special, 23 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Lemon peel, crushed rocks and floral notes abound in Lancelot-Royer’s NV Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Cuvée des Chevaliers. Wonderfully bright and alive, the Cuvée des Chevaliers stands out for its precision, balance and class. This is a terrific showing…” AG

P. Lancelot-Royer Blanc de Blancs Brut Grand Cru 2005 750ML ($79.95) $59 special, 10 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “Light, bright gold. Vibrant lemon, orange zest and floral aromas are complemented by deeper notes of anise, pear skin, iodine and chamomile. Picks up a smoky nuance with air and shows an array of intense citrus and orchard fruit flavors, along with a touch of bitter quinine. Closes on a smoky note, with very good clarity and lingering floral character.” JR

Larmandier-Bernier Les Chemins d’Avize Grand Cru Extra Brut 2010 750ML ($149.95) $119 special, 6 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “The 2010 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Chemins d’Avize bristles with a real sense of energy. Bright, focused and linear, the 2010 races across the palate with a bevy of lemon peel, grapefruit, mint and white pepper. The flavors are precise and lifted in a finely sculpted, crystalline Champagne that impresses with its exceptional balance. The Chemins d’Avize is a blend of fruit from the Chemin de Plivot and Chemin de Flavigny lieux-dits, which were previously used in the Longitude, fermented and aged in a combination of neutral barriques and foudres. Dosage is 2 grams/liter.” AG

Larmandier-Bernier ‘Longitude’ Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Extra Brut NV 750ML ($59.95) $44 special, 18 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 92 points “(mostly from Vertus, with some fruit sourced from the grand crus Cramant, Avize and Oger; 4 g/l dosage): Bright straw. Intensely perfumed bouquet displays aromas of green apple, Anjou pear and quinine, plus a strong chalky mineral overtone. Spicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors are complemented by deeper notes of sweet butter, toasty lees and anise, gaining power with air. Impressively focused on the finish, with strong mineral cut and lingering spiciness.” JR

Lassaigne Brut Nature Blanc De Blancs 2006 750ML ($119.95) $99 special, 36+ bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 points “Sourced from Le Cotet, La Grande Cote and Les Paluets – which last-named is southeast-facing and arguably the top site in Montgueux, opines Lassaigne – his 2006 Brut Nature is intriguingly and alluringly scented with fresh lemon and apricot, peony and narcissus, rowan and pistachio, along with sea breeze intimations and a pungency of struck flint. Startlingly silken and creamy, yet focused and vibrantly juicy this adds a sort of shimmering, crystalline sense of stoniness to an almost kaleidoscopically interactive finish. It ought to merit following for 6-8 years. Incidentally, Lassaigne believes that a purer expression of vintage character will always be achieved by maturing this cuvee in tank.” DS

Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Millesime 2006 750ML ($299.95) $219 special, 3 bottles available
James Suckling 97 points “Deep pinot-driven presence is the first and lasting impression. Power with control. Superfine bead, bread and spiced biscuits, candied ripe red fruits and a sense of tight-knit complexity. Some grapefruit, lemon pith & gently flinty notes too – impressive nose. In the mouth it is rich, powerful, mouth-filling and flavoursome with a core of the same biscuity red fruit flavour, savoury nutty notes and a wrap of assertive, persistent acidity that holds rich powerful flavour deep and focused whilst maintaining a polished, gently creamy texture. Long chalky bread and biscuit finish. A superb Pinot-driven vintage.”
Wine Spectator 95 points “–Collectibles– This elegant version shows beautiful texture and a sense of finesse despite the underlying power of vibrant acidity and smoky minerality. The palate offers a finely layered mesh of blackberry, poached pear, almond pastry, lemon zest and pickled ginger flavors. Drink now through 2028.” WS

Champagne Hebrart Rive Gauche Rive Droite Grand Cru Extra Brut 2008 750ML ($159.95) $119 special, 18 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 94 points “Light, bright gold. Deeply pitched aromas of melon, nectarine, vanilla and lemon curd, with a smoky mineral nuance adding vivacity. At once rich and lively, offering intense, oak-spiced honeydew, pit fruit and anise flavors and a zesty jolt of candied ginger. This really stains the palate while showing superb clarity and lightness of touch. The mineral and vanilla notes recur on the tenacious, sharply focused finish.” JR

Importer’s note: “Violet and hyacinth aromas make you think of Riesling (as these wines often do), but the palate is all apples and Rainier cherries with a chalk-powder sprinkle; wonderfully silky and generous, refined and accurate. A virtual Blanc de Blancs; 90% Chardonnay to 10% Pinot Noir.”

Rene Geoffroy Rose de Saignee Premier Cru Brut NV 375ML ($37.95) $33 special, 2 half-bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 92 points “(100% Pinot Noir; 10 g/l dosage; disgorged in June, 2014): Dark pink. An emphatically fruity nose evokes ripe red berries, tangerine and potpourri, with a hint of white pepper adding lift. Fleshy, seamless and broad on the palate, offering ripe raspberry and anise flavors that tighten up on the back half. Rich yet nervy, finishing with strong punch and cling and lingering florality. This Champagne could handle rich, strongly seasoned foods but it also has the nerviness to work with lighter dishes.” JR

Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Millesime Brut 2004 750ML ($179.95) $139 special, 19 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 97 points “The 2004 Dom Ruinart is just as brilliant and viscerally thrilling as it has always been. If anything, the 2004 has shut down considerably over the last six months. Tightly coiled and exceptionally beautiful, the 2004 boasts fabulous intensity, class and pedigree. The flavors are vibrant, chiseled and crystalline in their precision. Time in bottle is doing wonders for the 2004. This is a tremendous showing.” AG

Taittinger Collection Zao Wou-Ki 1998 750ML ($499.95) $399 special, 2 bottles available
“The Taittinger Collection Series bottles are released only in great vintages, from a selection of the year’s finest cuvées. The wines are made from Chardonnay mainly from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs, and Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne vineyards. The fruit is pressed in the vineyards and the first pressing is transported to the winery for fermentation, followed by a second fermentation in the bottle. Aged for five or more years on the lees, the wine acquires complexity and the fine, pinpoint bubbles characteristic of its sparkle.”–Importer Notes

A savory, almost wild Burgundy, the 2011 Chapelle is laced with dried herbs, tobacco, black cherries and cured meats are some of the notes that blossom in the glass. Arriving Next Week

Maison Remoissenet Pere & Fils Chambertin Clos-de-Beze 2011 750ML ($349.95) $199 pre-arrival special (was $219)
Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2011 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru is less flamboyant than the Charmes-Chambertin ‘11 tasted alongside. The fruit here is darker, a touch more tertiary but still very well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, a masculine Clos-de-Beze that will need two or three more years in the cellar. Personally, I prefer the harmony and plushness of the Charmes-Chambertin, although this will repay bottle age thanks to its substance and structure. Drink 2018-2030.” WA
Antonio Galloni 93 points “The 2011 Chambertin Clos de Bèze isn’t ready to show all its cards just yet. This is a relatively delicate style for Bèze, with expressive floral notes that convey more finesse than power. The 2011 isn’t fully formed yet, but today my impression is that it will remain quite restrained in style.” AG

Weingut Bernhard Ott Engabrunner Stein Gruner Veltliner Erste OTW Lage 2013 750ML ($59.95) $41.90 special (was $49)
David Schildknecht- Vinous 94 points “From partly granite terraces in Engabrunn at the eastern edge of the Kamptal, this is as intensely mineral an exemplar of its variety as one is likely to encounter. Piquant lemon peel, blond tobacco, mint, quarry dust and diverse flowers in the striking nose carry over to a firm but polished palate dominated by tart-edged apple, grapefruit and rhubarb but seemingly suffused with crushed stone and laced with billowing liquid floral perfume and mouthwatering crustacean-like salinity. It’s almost a shame to start opening bottles of this handsomely long beauty already. (Almost ;- )”

Weingut Bernhard Ott Feuersbrunner Spiegel Gruner Veltliner Erste OTW Lage 2013 750ML ($59.95) $41.90 special (was $49)
David Schildknecht- Vinous 93 points “Honey, white peach and quince allied to hints of truffle and kelp put one in mind of certain very rich Chenins. Full yet barely over 13% in alcohol, and boasting lusciously satisfying primary juiciness, this takes on more typical Grüner Veltliner characteristics in the mid-palate in the form of caramelized parsnip, snap pea and blond tobacco, not to mention the white pepper, allied with ginger, that informs its long mouthwateringly savory and buoyant finish. Fruit from these vines, noted Ott, was especially affected by millerandage and consequently concentrated. A mere 600 liters were harvested from the Spiegel’s eight hectares!”
Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2013 Grüner Veltliner Spiegel Erste Lage is Ott’s third vintage of this Feuersbrunn cru which carries a mix of very old and very young vines which are cultivated on south-facing terraces in 280 to more than 300 meters above sea level and well protected to the northwest by the Hengstberg gravel ridge. The soils, derived from a massive blanket of loess that is draped over the Gföhler gneiss bedrock, marine sediments, and ancient gravels of the Danube River, are calcareous and silty and, in 2013, bore a light golden colored, tropical flavored, rich, sweet and harmonious Veltliner of great intensity and elegance. It intermixes ripe peach and mango aromas with tobacco and mineral flavors and develops a great length which makes the Spiegel on a par with the Rosenberg, the former more sweet, the latter more subtle perhaps.” WA

Weingut Bernhard Ott Feuersbrunner Rosenberg Gruner Veltliner Erste OTW Lage 2013 750ML ($64.95) $46 special (was $51.90)
David Schildknecht- Vinous 93 points “An alluringly musky and rose petal-like floral perfume mingles with scents of sweet pea, caramelized turnip and parsnip that come to the fore on a mouthwateringly savory, silky, almost creamy palate. It’s a bit as though a Grüner Veltliner had been laced with Gewurztraminer. A tart-edged strawberry-rhubarb note emerges by way of counterpoint. Toasted grain, ginger and mouthwatering salinity of shrimp-shell reduction serve for stimulation in a long, buoyant, soothing finish. Of the three single-vineyard Ott bottlings, this gained the most between its showing immediately before bottling and its showing a year later, which is consistent with its history of slow bottle evolution.”
Wine Advocate 92 points “According to Bernhard Ott, the 2013 Grüner Veltliner Rosenberg Erste Lage comes from “the very best loess cru of the Wagram.” The vineyard (in 280 and 320 meters above sea level) is located in a topographic basin that is open to the south but provides a high level of protection from the wind and has an excellent heat-conserving capacity. The vineyard is bordered to the north by a mixed forest on Tertiary gravels from a former watercourse of the Danube River whereas the calcareous, silty soils of the vineyards developed from a thick blanket of loess which can be up to 20 meters thick. Ott’s vines are more than 50 old and give a remarkable elegant and well balanced Veltliner with an intense citrus color and a lovely purity of ripe, juicy peaches and mangoes intermixed with fresh, clear mineral flavors on the nose. Gentle and remarkably elegant on the palate, the full-bodied wine matches its natural richness and fruit intensity with freshness and a nice piquancy in a very delicious way. Its elegance and balance is really beautiful.”

Domaine Marcel Deiss Riesling 2012 750ML ($29.95) $21.90 special (was $24)
Ian D’Agata — Vinous 89 points “Bright straw with a gold tinge. Peach, tea and spice on the forward nose. Rich, ripe and suave, with lovely tropical fruit flavors that persist nicely at the back, with a touch of alcoholic heat becoming apparent with aeration. The grapes for this wine are sourced from three main areas: Saint Hippolyte (on soils rich in granite and clay that yield wines with less acidity), Bergheim (slightly bigger, richer wines), and a few small plots between Riquewihr and Béblenheim. Mathieu Deiss told me that “when I first came to work at the estate, I thought why not join these grapes together rather than make single bottlings of each? It’s not as if we don’t have enough single-site wines, and besides, I didn’t think our clients were die-hard fans of the Saint Hippolyte or Bergheim wines themselves.”

Domaine Marcel Deiss Altenberg de Bergheim, Alsace Grand Cru 2010 750ML ($119.95) $89 special (was $99)
Wine Advocate & Stephen Tanzer 95 points “Like its 2011 counterpart, the Deiss 2010 Altenberg de Bergheim is strikingly floral, but tends toward bitter-sweet and elusive perfume of iris and lily-of-the-valley. The influence of quinine and black tea as well as a welcome suggestion of fresh peach and citrus juiciness serve as more effective counterpoint and push-back to the wine’s prominent sweetness than is the case with the 2011. A gorgeous sense of openness and levity prevails here, with quince and nut pastes subtly complimenting the prominent impression of liquid floral perfume on a silken and expansive palate, leading to a prodigious finish at once caressing as well as stimulating in its dynamic interaction of flower, fruit, and mouthwatering mineral salts…” WA

Domaine Marcel Deiss Burlenberg 2009 750ML ($49.95) $36 special (was $41.90)
Ian D’Agato – Vinous 92+ points “Bright ruby-red. Red cherry, raspberry syrup and fresh herbs on the perfumed nose. Creamy and tactile in the mouth, with pure, rich flavors of ripe red berries and cherry supported by fine-grained tannins. Turns slightly tighter, even a bit austere, on the very long finish, which features lingering smoke and iron notes. (Deiss told me he finds a taste of blood in this wine.) All this very impressive, mostly pinot noir red wine needs is a little time.” ID

Domaine Marcel Deiss Grasberg 2010 750ML ($59.95) $41.90 special (was $49)
Wine Advocate 93 points “Striking, high-toned aromas of maraschino, pistachio and mirabelle distillate in the Deiss 2010 Grasberg put me in mind of previous renditions from this site and field-blend that favors Riesling, Pinot Gris and Traminer variants. Tingling pineapple informs its firm yet lusciously juicy palate, leading to a long, supportively sweet finish featuring the invigorating interaction of chalk, white pepper, orange and lemon zests, and nut extracts with peach and pineapple. Look for this beauty to perform impressively through at least 2025.” WA

Domaine Marcel Deiss Huebuhl 2008 750ML ($59.95) $41.90 special (was $49)
Wine Advocate & Stephen Tanzer 92 points “(pinot gris and muscat) Full orange-gold. Pungent, high-toned aromas of orange, spices and medicinal herbs; conveys a strong botrytis character. A very sweet, energetic fruit bomb in the mouth, with brisk acidity giving grip to the rather exotic flavors of tangerine, apricot, yellow peach, botanical herbs and spices. Big and broad but not heavy. Finishes long, tactile and slightly phenolic, showing its pinot gris side today.” ST

Domaine Marcel Deiss Schoenenbourg, Alsace Grand Cru 2010 750ML ($119.95) $79 special (was $99)
Wine Advocate & Stephen Tanzer 94 points “Fresh peach and citrus lusciously inform the Deiss 2010 Schoenenbourg, whose creamy texture and honeyed richness, are matched by vivacious juiciness. White pepper, chalk, quinine, and shimmering mineral matter offer invigoration and counterpoint in a sustained and dynamically complex finish. The sweetness here is supportive without remotely getting the upper hand, so that I can well imagine over the 20-25 years during which this beauty will deserve to be admired, its versatility at table will vary inversely with a diminishing sense of sweetness.” WA
