Perched high above Hallgarten in the Rheingau, Weingut Prinz has become one of Germany’s quiet overachievers—an estate where deep family roots meet crisp, modern energy. Led by Fred Prinz and now joined by his son Florian, the winery blends centuries of history with a laser-focused vision for pure, expressive Riesling.
Their secret weapon? Cool, breezy, high-elevation vineyards on quartzite and slate. This is peak Riesling territory, and Prinz knows how to let the terroir shine. The dry wines are electric—zesty citrus, stony minerality, and that unmistakable Rheingau lift. They’re bright, clean, and dangerously easy to drink.
Best of all, Prinz’s Rieslings often match (or beat) the region’s famous names at much friendlier prices. These are bottles that punch well above their weight—serious quality with zero pretension.
The Prinz family’s philosophy is simple: organic farming, hand harvesting, gentle cellar work, and letting the vineyards do the talking. No flash, no fuss—just clarity, precision, and purity in every glass. If you’re looking to dive into the Rheingau’s modern, refreshingly vibrant side, Prinz is the name to know. Sleek, lively, and irresistibly drinkable—their dry Rieslings are absolute must-haves.

The 2016er Riesling Eiswein was made from fruit harvested at approx. 120° Oechsle in Bernkastel, Erden and Ürzig on both November 29 and November 30, and was fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (143 g/l). It develops a beautifully zesty and fresh nose of candied grapefruit, orange jelly, and spices, joined by riper notes of quince, pear puree, and almond cream after some airing. The wine is superbly balanced and refined on the palate, and leaves a rather pure and smooth feel in the very long and light finish. The sweetness still dominates the acid core in the after-taste at this stage, but this should change after a few years of cellaring. 2024-2036. (Oct 2019)”
