“A bottle that might be called daring if you felt like that term could be applied to winemaking. This is our homage to “serious” rosés like Valentini and Pepe Cerasuolo, Pataille Fleur de Pinot, L’Anglore, and Chateau Simone, which have either gotten significantly more expensive, or hard to find, or both-and so we had to make something to drink ourselves. A single-vineyard wine, it was treated to a nearly 18 month élevage in older barrels, which added a layer of savoriness and complexity to balance the cherry-red and strawberry fruit of the wine. It’s a contemplative bottle to drink over the next five years.”

The light-bodied palate is bright and refreshing with a deep core of fruit, a touch of anchoring texture and a long, spicy finish. Schafer-Frohlich

Powerful, mineral-drenched and resolutely bright, Schafer-Frohlich’s Rieslings are some of the finest white wines in the world, at a fraction of the price of their peers in Burgundy or Alsace. As a result, allocations are tiny: Michelin-starred restaurants fight over them and European collectors stash as many in their cellars as possible. Thankfully, the estate was brought to the attention of the American importer Rudi Wiest by none other than Helmut Dönnhoff.

Current winemaker Tim Frohlich took over his family’s estate at the impressive age of 19 in the mid-1990s. The estate was invited into the VDP consortium in 2001. He became the youngest person in the history of Germany to be named the winemaker of the year by Gault-Millau in 2010.

They have continued to impress and amaze, winning award after award for the quality of their wines. Tim’s goal for his wines is to exemplify finesse, elegance and the character of the site where the grapes were grown. Their holdings encompass 47 acres in 6 different GG areas, making their quality consistently high across their portfolio. Schafer-Frohlich Stromberg Grosses Gewachs Riesling, Nahe 2017 750ml Was $85, Now $75, 11 bottles in stock now
Mosel Fine Wines 96 points
“The 2017er Bockenauer Stromberg GG proves rather reduced and smoky at first. It then gradually reveals riper notes of pineapple, orange, yellow peach, tangerine and gingerbread, all wrapped into spices and residual scents from the spontaneous fermentation. The wine proves coats the palate with juicy and lightly flavors. The finish is however focused and even racy thanks to a pure and lime driven acidity kicking in. A slightly tart side in the after-taste still needs to melt into the wine but the wine is hugely impressive. 2025-2037”

Schafer-Frohlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spatlese, Nahe 2017 750ml Was $39, Now $33, 28 bottles in stock now
David Schildknecht-Vinous 93 points
“Elder flower and peony, ripe quince and white peach on the nose presage a lusciously-fruity and profusely floral inner-mouth performance. The feel is glossy but buoyant. The succulent and superbly-concentrated finish remains transparent to floral nuances as well as revealing a shimmering sense of crystalline and flinty stoniness.”

Schafer-Frohlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spatlese Goldkapsel, Nahe 2018 750ml Was $59, Now $49, 17 bottles in stock now
John Gilman-A View From the Cellar 93+ points
“The 2018 Goldkapsel Spätlese from the Felseneck vineyard was made solely with shriveled golden berries and there is not a trace of botrytis in this beautiful wine this year. The bouquet is nicely youthful at the present time and takes a bit of coaxing to offer up a gorgeous blend of pear, white cherries, wild yeasts, a lovely undertow of salty slate, white flowers and a whisper of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is very pure, medium-full and racy, with a lovely core, superb filigree and bounce and a very long, vibrant and complex finish. This just dances across the palate. 2024-2070.”

Faiveley for Festivities – On Sale Now! 11-24-24

Francois, Eve, & Erwan Faiveley

Good news! We’re putting the wines of Faiveley back on sale for a limited period for our loyal newsletter customers. There’s still time left for our local customers to bring these wines to the Thanksgiving table, and plenty of opportunity for everyone else to have them at Christmas dinner. Or stuffed in a stocking?

With Faiveley you’re presented with a producer that embodies consistency – never missing in quality and pleasure from vintage to vintage – and offers unparalleled access to Burgundy’s crus – we’ve got over 22 different village and vineyard bottlings for you to enjoy – and wine styles. This is your chance to start a Burgundy cellar, or preserve one for years to come.

Background on Faiveley

In Burgundy, as in the cellars of Burgundy collectors, there is an illusion that time stops and that Burgundy never changes. Honoring tradition and family history is very important, but it is difficult to preserve those deep family holdings across the beautiful slopes if you’re not able to sell wine. Thus, change comes to us all and to some in ways that will benefit both the new Burgundy drinker and the long-term collector. Here is how change came to Faiveley.

The wines of Faiveley, while always of superlative quality, historically were known for their potential in the cellar and not always for their immediate approachability. Concentrated, stern, and ageable were the most common descriptors in reviews. It could be why the wines are more likely to find a home in their native country than is typical for Burgundy producers: the French people and restaurants have more patience and inclination for cellaring!

It took the new generation, a team of siblings, Erwan and Eve Faiveley, to ease the winery into modernity. The wines became softer and more approachable in their youth, while still offering the potential to age with grace.

This modern incarnation of Faiveley began in 2007 when Francois Faiveley retired and his children became the seventh generation to manage the Domaine. The siblings have transformed the winemaking, holding onto the age-worthiness that the domaine was known for, but also bringing out more youthful charm.

Even small changes to the style of a domaine that dates back to 1825 is considered revolutionary in Burgundy, and there were a number of people who were afraid that the transition would ruin one of the anchors of the region. Fortunately, when the first wines of the new generation started appearing in 2007 the results were reassuringly delicious, and the changes not nearly as drastic as anticipated.

In general, the whites are still simultaneously silky and muscular, the reds still exceptionally pure and elegant. And all the while many of the wines were showing heightened aromatics and a softer feel on the palate. Village level wines were easy to enjoy immediately, and even most Premier Cru wines were showing themselves well after a brief introduction of air. The Grand Cru holdings were still built for the long haul, perhaps not quite as dense as under François, but reds still powerful and with substantial silky tannins, and whites crammed full of intense minerality, floral notes and ripe fruits.

The siblings have also expanded their holdings and renovated the southern winery in Mercurey to bring the Côte Chalonnaise wines up to the quality standards of their more famous brethren in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The domaine added temperature-controlled fermentation vats and gravity flow for vinification, a gentler vinification process. Across the board, the overall quality levels are higher than ever, aided, too, by the shift to organic farming.

While widely thought of as a negociant, Faiveley’s domaine bottlings account for a far larger share of its production—a testament to the quality-mindedness that has driven the producer to new heights. (On the bottles, negociant wines are labeled “Joseph Faiveley” vs the “Domaine Faiveley” bottlings from the estate vineyards). They hold ten hectares of Grand Cru including the iconic monopole Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru, which the family has held since 1874. Today, Faiveley is one of the largest and most important landowners in Burgundy.

While there are changes afoot, the wines are still true to their roots. From vintage to vintage you’ll find that Faiveley will make among the best examples available. When you find your favorites, buy with confidence. When we’re asked by new collectors who are looking for the Burgundies that they could stash away, yet not regret opening in a moment of weakness, we will turn to Faiveley more often than not. You can experience the wines in their youth, getting a glimpse of the promise to come.

16/20 Jancis Robinson “Drink 2024-2029.”

Faiveley Mercurey Vieilles Vignes, Côte Chalonnaise 2020 750ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 32 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator
“A linear, vibrant red, boasting blackberry, black currant and loam flavors. This is defined by vivid acidity as much as the light dusting of tannins, with fine balance and grip. Drink now through 2032.”

Faiveley Mercurey Vieilles Vignes, Côte Chalonnaise 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $44.50, that’s $42.28 at 5% off and $40.05 at 10% off, 7 bottles in stock now
Producer note
“Our ‘vieilles vignes’ (old vines) are over thirty years old and produce an exceptionally aromatic wine that offers a true reflection of its Mercurey terroirs. The palate reveals a smooth, fruity attack and evolves towards notes of ripe red berries and a touch of vanilla. An intensely aromatic wine with a delicate structure and silky smooth tannins that will win over wine experts and amateurs alike.”

Faiveley Clos du Roy, Mercurey Premier Cru, Côte Chalonnaise 2021 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 2 bottles in stock now
16.5/20 Jancis Robinson
 “Drink 2024-2030.”
Importer note “This small parcel, known as a ‘clos’, formerly belonged to the Kings of France. It was considered one of the appellation’s best parcels and was purchased by the Faiveley family in 1971. This wine could be compared to a Côte de Nuits village in terms of its delicate tannins and length on the palate. Tasting Notes: The nose exudes small red fruits combined with notes of oak and spice. The palate offers good balance, rich aromas, and delicate tannins resulting in a very distinctive wine with exceptional aromatic persistence.”

Chambolle-Musigny

Faiveley Aux Beaux Bruns, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $179, that’s $170.05 at 5% off and $161.10 at 10% off, 16 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 94 points
“An unusually firm and structured wine that breaks the mold for this village, usually associated with finesse and delicacy. Deep forest-berry aromas, but also savory and earthy notes. Imposing body that’s brimming with healthy tannins. Bright, mineral finish with excellent complexity.”

Faiveley Les Charmes, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $199, that’s $189.05 at 5% off and $179.10 at 10% off, 1 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 95 points
“A ripe red, with macerated cherry, black currant, sandalwood, vanilla and stone flavors carried by a vibrant structure. Linear and fused to finely grained tannins as it lingers on the spice- and mineral-tinged finish. Fine energy here”
James Suckling 95 points “The name says it all! Here is the charming and filigree pinot noir the world expects from Chambolle-Musigny. Very fine tannins and excellent concentration are married to lively acidity that make this dance on your palate. The long, delicate finish doesn’t want to let go”.

Gevrey-Chambertin

Faiveley Les Cazetiers, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 2011 750ml Displayed Price: $179, that’s $170.05 at 5% off and $161.10 at 10% off, 1 bottles in stock
Burghound 92 points “An extremely pretty, cool, pure and layered nose features notes of humus, earth, animale, stone and cool red and dark berry fruit aromas. I very much like the mouth feel to the tautly muscled, intense and powerful flavors that possess real drive on the moderately structured and well-balanced finish that delivers exceptionally good length. Despite the relative firmness of the finish this is already relatively accessible and with an hour or so of air could even be enjoyed now though there is ample upside development potential remaining. In short, this is a lovely effort.”
IWC 92-94 points “Good bright, full red. Knockout perfume of raspberry and rose petal offers an element of lift that I associate more with Clos Saint-Jacques. Then sappy and vibrant in the mouth, with outstanding purity and salty intensity to the flavors of red fruits and blood orange. Utterly fine-grained premier cru with perfectly harmonious acidity. The very long, rising finish features terrific floral, mineral lift. A great Cazetiers in the making”

Faiveley Les Cazetiers, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 2015 750ml Displayed Price: $189, that’s $179.55 at 5% off and $170.10 at 10% off, 3 bottles in stock
Wine Enthusiast 93 points
“The tannins in this wine are firm and still prominent, giving both richness and aging potential. The fruit is full, weighty, packed with dark tannins and with firm concentration. This a dark, firm wine needs to age. Drink from 2024.”
17/20 Jancis Robinson “Drink 2024-2040.”

Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $419, that’s $398.05 at 5% off and $377.10 at 10% off, 4 bottles in stock now
William Kelley-Wine Advocate 93-95+ points
“Wild and brooding, Faiveley’s 2019 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of smoked meats, spices, wild berries and forest floor. Full-bodied, layered and sapid, it’s broad and muscular, with a deep core of fruit and youthfully chalky tannins. This is a serious Mazis built for the long haul.”
Neal Martin-Vinous 93-95 points “The 2019 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru was reduced on the nose, making it difficult to read at the moment, though the palate is certainly well balanced, featuring crunchy black fruit laced with red currant and a generous sprinkling of cracked black pepper toward the finish. Intuition tells me this is a great Mazis-Chambertin; it will just need time.”

Nuits-Saint-Georges

Faiveley Aux Chaignots, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off and $107.10 at 10% off, 5 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 96 points
“This stunningly suave and silky Nuits-Saint-Georges really hits the bullseye! Great complexity on the nose with a tapestry of forest-berry, earthy and spicy aromas. And beneath the waterline there’s a great tannin structure that powers this across the palate and off into the distance. Drink or hold.”
Winemaker’s note “Intense garnet red hue and aromas of fruit, oak and spice on the nose. The palate reveals a smooth, rich attack, velvety tannins and good balance. A delicate, seductive and very elegant wine.”

Faiveley Les Damodes, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off and $107.10 at 10% off, 14 bottles in stock now
William Kelley-Wine Advocate 92-94 points
“Aromas of cassis, plums, orange rind and spicy new oak preface Faiveley’s 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes, a medium to full-bodied, deep and lively wine with a concentrated core of fruit, framed by powdery tannins. Concluding with a long, mineral finish, it’s another fine bottling from this cool, high-altitude and northeast-exposed site.”

Faiveley Les Porets-Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2013 750ml Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 3 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 91 points
“Pretty dark fruits such as blackberry and blueberry with hints of spice. Full body, tight center palate, and fine tannins. Better in a year or two, but very delicate, firm and delicious.”
Wine Spectator 90 points “A pure, elegant style, featuring raspberry, wild strawberry, rose and mineral aromas and flavors. Firm, with a tightly knit matrix for support. Fine length. Best from 2018 through 2030. 118 cases imported.”

Wine Spectator 92 points
“Aromas of spearmint and cinnamon accent the core flavors of black cherry and blackberry in this firm red, which is more linear on the finish, where dark fruit mingles with oak spice and mineral elements”

Faiveley Les Pruliers, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 11 bottles in stock now

“Aromas of spearmint and cinnamon accent the core flavors of black cherry and blackberry in this firm red, which is more linear on the finish, where dark fruit mingles with oak spice and mineral elements. The tannins are a touch dry in the end. Best from 2025 through 2040.”

Faiveley Les Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2016 750ml Displayed Price: $199, that’s $189.05 at 5% off and $179.10 at 10% off, 1 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 93-94 points “A deep and complex wine that makes this site often referred to be the best of Nuits St. Georges. A potential Grand Cru. The dense structure and impressive tannins extend through the long, velvet finish. You can drink this now for the generous blue fruits, but if you want all the minerality give it five, ten or more years of aging.”
Stephen Tanzer 92-95 points “Bright red with ruby tones. Very pure, youthfully medicinal aromas of black raspberry, violet and menthol. Wonderfully rich and subtly sweet, offering grand cru volume and depth to its flavors of red and darker berries, licorice, spices and minerals. This utterly suave wine boasts a rare combination of ripeness and coolness. The youthfully medicinal finish mounts slowly, with saline soil and mineral tones emerging as the wine opens in the glass. Splendid potential.”
Burghound 91-94 points “A broad-ranging nose features notes of red and dark raspberry, cherry, lavender, earth and a suggestion of the sauvage, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is excellent delineation and vibrancy to the overtly powerful medium weight plus flavors that also possess obvious muscle before concluding in a saline and lightly austere finish. This is quite firmly structured and will need plenty of time to reach its full apogee. In a word, excellent. (91-94)/2031+.”

Faiveley Les Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 1.5L Displayed Price: $419, that’s $398.05 at 5% off and $377.10 at 10% off, 1 magnums in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 93-95 points
“The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru is an equal blend from Faiveley’s own vines and contract growers, plus a barrel from the Hospices de Nuits. It has a very perfumed and floral bouquet of red berry fruit complemented by wilted violets and potpourri. The medium-bodied palate offers crunchy red berry fruit laced with balsamic. Quite energetic and well defined toward the harmonious finish, which leaves a tang of white pepper on the aftertaste. This is a superb Les Saint-Georges.”
William Kelley-Wine Advocate 92-94+ points “A mixture of domaine and purchased grapes that are vinified together, Faiveley’s 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges wafts from the glass with notes of sweet berries, plums, espresso roast, dark chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and gourmand, it’s sumptuous and charming, with lively acids and a ripe, enveloping core of fruit.”

James Suckling 93 points
“Perhaps this warm and generous wine, with a pronounced rooty character, is not the most charming Volnay out there, but it has very good depth and excellent harmony, thanks to the fine tannins. The generous finish pulls you back for more. Drink or hold.”

Faiveley Volnay-Santenots, Volnay Premier Cru 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off and $107.10 at 10% off, 5 bottles in stock now

Aubry French MagnumsAudrey Frick-Jeb Dunnuck 89 points
“[Reviewed 2023] The NV Champagne Brut pours a copper-straw color and is the classic blend for this cuvée of 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir, 20% Meunier with a small amount of Arbanne, Petit Meslier, and Fromenteau, with 60% from 2020 and the remainder reserve wines back to 1998. Ripe with aromas of tropical fruit, it opens to notes of ripe mango, candied orange, fresh bread, and ginger. Medium-bodied, it is focused, with a delicate mousse and a clean, chalky texture. Versatile and charming, it’s ready for drinking now or over the coming 6-8 years.”

Importer Note
“This barrel fermented vintage cuvee is made from grapes from the bottom of the hill, which Dominique belives results in greater power and aging potential. Zero dosage.”

Rosé

Peyrassol ‘Chateau Peyrassol’ Rosé, Cotes de Provence 2022 1.5L Was $99, Displayed Price: $89, that’s $84.55 at 5% off and $80.10 at 10% off, 2 magnums in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92 points
“The 2022 Rosé opens with a savory bouquet, blending dusty dried flowers with ginger, cardamom and a touch of dried peaches. This washes across the palate with opulent textures while remaining remarkably fresh and light on its feet. Sweet spices and ripe orchard fruit swirl throughout. The Château Peyrassol cleans up beautiful, pure, fresh and perfumed. It ends on a salty flourish.”

Bordeaux

Chateau Angelus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2016 1.5L Displayed Price: $899, that’s $854.05 at 5% off and $809.10 at 10% off, 14 magnums in stock now
Angelus French MagnumWine Enthusiast 100 points
“Top 100 Cellar Selection in 2019. This is a rich, perfumed wine, with dense tannins and intense layers of black plum and spice. The palate is firmly built yet broadened out by plump dark-fruit tones and honed by a solid, dry core. Drink from 2025. -Roger Voss”
Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate 98+ points “Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2016 Angélus erupts from the glass with powerful notes of blackberry pie, ripe black cherries and juicy black plums with an undercurrent of star anise, rose petals, chocolate mint, pencil shavings and woodsmoke plus a waft of allspice. The palate is pure decadence. Medium to full-bodied, rich and generously fruited, this wine is by no means heavy—it positively glimmers with freshness and vivacity, lending an ethereal nature to all that richness and power, beautifully framed by velvety tannins and finishing with epic length. The generosity, layers and plushness make for an absolutely DELICIOUS drink right now, but I’d suggest waiting 3-5 more years for the fireworks to really begin.”

Chateau Léoville-Poyferré, Saint-Julien 2015 1.5L Displayed Price: $249, that’s $236.55 at 5% off and $224.10 at 10% off, 4 magnums in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 97 points
“The 2015 Léoville-Poyferré is spectacular. Inky, dense and explosive, the 2015 possesses off the chart richness, with soft contours, no hard edges and exceptional balance. All the elements are simply fused together. inky blue/purplish fruit, chocolate, new leather, blueberry jam, exotic spice and violet notes are all beautifully delineated throughout. Fresh, vibrant and totally sexy, Léoville-Poyferré is one of the wines of the vintage. Don’t miss it! Tasted two times.”

Burgundy & Beaujolais

Domaine Hubert Lamy Les Frionnes, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru 2017 3L Displayed Price: $599, that’s $569.05 at 5% off and $539.10 at 10% off, 1 double-magnum in stock now
William Kelley-Wine Advocate 93 points
“Wafting from the glass with scents of citrus oil, crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers and iodine, Lamy’s 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes is medium to full-bodied, enveloping and incisive, with a crisp core of fruit, lively acids and a precise, mineral finish. Seamless and complete, this has come together beautifully in bottle.”

Domaine Faiveley Les Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2019 1.5L Displayed Price: $419, that’s $398.05 at 5% off and $377.10 at 10% off, 2 magnums in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 93-95 points
“The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru is an equal blend from Faiveley’s own vines and contract growers, plus a barrel from the Hospices de Nuits. It has a very perfumed and floral bouquet of red berry fruit complemented by wilted violets and potpourri. The medium-bodied palate offers crunchy red berry fruit laced with balsamic. Quite energetic and well defined toward the harmonious finish, which leaves a tang of white pepper on the aftertaste. This is a superb Les Saint-Georges.”

Jean-Louis Dutraive Domaine de la Grand’Cour Fleurie ‘Clos de la Grand’Cour’, Beaujolais 2021 1.5L Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 1 magnum in stock now
Neal Martin-Vinous 91 points
“The 2021 Fleurie Clos de la Grand Cour includes the fruit usually bottled as the Vieilles Vignes due to frost and vineyards stress. It has a little more concentration on the nose, wild strawberry and briary scents unfurling in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and gentle grip. It is very transparent in style with a slightly tertiary finish. Very fine and complex. Drink: 2024-2034.”

Rhone & Southern France

Delas Freres Cote-Rotie La Landonne 2019 1.5L Displayed Price: $549, that’s $521.55 at 5% off and $494.10 at 10% off, 2 magnums in stock now
Decanter 97 points
“Immediately this has the darkness and aromatic austerity of La Landonne. Very full-bodied, expansive on the palate with mouthcoating flavour and tannin but not heavy. This is seriously tannic, but it’s not tough. Great character, great power and perfect balance. Alcohol is just a little raised, but this is a blockbuster. Around 3,000 bottles made. Fermented in open-top concrete tanks for 20 days, then matured in new and one-year-old barrels for 14 months. Drinking Window 2026 – 2035.”

Domaine Eric et Joel Durand Cornas Empreintes 2019 1.5L Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 6 magnums in stock now
Joe Czerwinski-Wine Advocate 95 points
“Sure, the 2019 Cornas Empreintes is lightly cedary up front, but those notes are more than balanced by crushed stone, salted licorice, and bold cassis and blueberry flavors. Full-bodied and concentrated, this is a rock-solid Cornas with a long, dusty finish, capable of aging and improving up to two decades. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.”

Domaine Garon Cote Rotie Les Triotes 2016 1.5L Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off and $107.10 at 10% off, 1 magnum in stock now
Josh Raynolds-Vinous 92 points
“(40% new oak) Opaque ruby. Smoky, mineral-accented cherry and blueberry scents are complicated by hints of vanilla, Indian spices and licorice. Supple and broad on the palate, offering pliant blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter as the wine opens up. A sexy floral pastille note emerges on the clinging finish, which shows excellent clarity and gentle, slow-building tannins.”

Jerome Bressy Domaine Gourt de Mautens, IGP Vaucluse 2015 1.5L Displayed Price: $199, that’s $189.05 at 5% off and $179.10 at 10% off, 1 magnum in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 97 points
“The Chambolle-Musigny of the Rhône, the 2015 IGP Vaucluse from Jerome Bressy is a totally sensational blend of 50% Grenache and the balance a mix of Mourvèdre, Carignan, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Cinsault, Syrah, and Terret Noir (we’re getting close to all the varieties). Aged in a mix of concrete tanks, foudre, demi-muids, and barrels, bottled unfined and unfiltered, this naked beauty has just about everything you could want from a bottle of wine. Notes of rose petals, kirsch, blackberries, garrigue, and spice all emerge from this pure, elegant and gorgeous red that offers full-bodied richness, no hard edges and a killer finish. It got more than a few Wows in my notes and is an ethereally textured southern Rhône that needs to be tasted to be believed. Anticipated maturity: 2017 – 2030.”

Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas 2019 1.5L Displayed Price: $99, that’s $94.05 at 5% off and $89.10 at 10% off, 6 magnums in stock now
Grapelive 95+ points
“This deeply saturated 2019 Gigondas opens with a mix of dark berry fruit, spice, heady aromas and savory elements with boysenberry, black plum, pomegranate and wild strawberry fruits flowing across the full bodied palate along with lavender, pepper, anise and subtle earthy tones, gaining impact and presence in the glass with every sip, while providing immediate pleasure. This is another sensational effort from Saint Cosme with fine grained tannins, raw transparency and a lingering creme de cassis finish. [It’s]well worth aging. For those that have patience there will be tremendous rewards even though the youthful fruit intensity makes for a hedonistic experience that is hard to resist even in such a youthful wine. Best to have this wine with simple but hearty cuisine and I would, as always, suggest a 30 minute to an hour decanting here, which will bring additional joy and a more chocolatey mouth feel… This is a modern classic, very similar to the wildly good 2016, that should not be missed!”

Loire

Gerard Boulay Sancerre Les Monts Damnes 2022 1.5L Displayed Price: $119, that’s $189.05 at 5% off and $179.10 at 10% off, 3 magnums in stock now
Boulay French MagnumsImporter Note
“Boulay began farming the steeply sloped Mont Damnés vineyard in 1982. His plot has an average vine age of 45 years. Mont Damnés’ reflective soils and south-facing exposition make it one of Chavi¬gnol’s warmest sites. Overall, Gerard Boulay’s “terre blanche” vineyards produce some of the most distinctive and soil-inflected Sauvignon Blancs in the Loire, with a delineation and minerality often reminiscent of a top Chablis. Boulay is certainly among the top examples of the appellation, including Boulay’s neighbors (Cotat Bros., Vatan). These are gorgeous, highly complex wines that are a clear step above “regular” Sancerre, and can age easily for 10-20 years or more. In fact, we have had them all the way back to the 1959 which was magnificent! They confirm Boulay’s place in the top ranks of Loire Valley vignerons.”

Thibaud Boudignon Anjou Blanc ‘a Francoise..’ 2020 1.5L Displayed Price: $145, that’s $137.75 at 5% off and $130.50 at 10% off, 2 magnums in stock now
Yohan Castaing-Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2020 Anjou Blanc à François(e)… is showing well today, with a gourmand, fruity bouquet with aromas of ripe orchard fruits, exotic fruits, lemon oil and iodine. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it’s dense and a bit phenolic with a long, penetrating finish. Naturally dense and powerful, this cuvée is also energetic and saline.”

Vinopolis Close-Out Sale Featurette:

Selbach-Oster

If you’re an American that drinks German Riesling, thank Johannes Selbach. As the winemaker and owner of Selbach-Oster, Selbach makes profound and affordable German Rieslings. Because they aren’t opulent or extreme, the wines are overlooked by reviewers that prefer a more bombastic style. Instead, his wines are like sitting down to dinner with a good friend. You can drink his delicate and soulful Spätlesen and Auslesen wines with your main course, not just dessert or spicy dishes, and you’d be shocked at how flexible the bone-dry GGs and ethereal Kabinetts are across cuisine types.

But Johannes Selbach’s food-friendly style of Rieslings is not why he could be considered the ambassador of modern German wines. In fact, Johannes is the modest tastemaker behind US importer Terry Theise, one of the most important American figures in the modern revitalization of interest in German Rieslings.

Selbach connected Theise to multiple estates as Theise built his portfolio, such as A.J. Adams and Vols. He even took over production at Merkelbach when the elderly brothers retired without heirs. Selbach-Oster was one of the first estates Theise imported, and, as evidenced in the legendary Terry Theise catalogues produced while he worked with Skurnik, Johannes Selbach was an essential advisor and a dear friend.

Chez Vinopolis, we have worked directly with Johannes Selbach for many years. The selections have varied with the vintage: we’ve picked up a pallet or two of Selbach-Oster wines, we’ve carried wines he personally tasted and selected at the Bernkasteler Ring auction (more a showcase of estates’ top wines than an American-style bidding war), and sometimes we’ve loaded up on underrepresented producers he admires such as Prinz, Karlsmuhle, and Kees-Kieren.

The wide array of Selbach-Oster wines we have in stock were hand-picked for our shop by Johannes Selbach himself. These are his treasures, what he wants to share with you. We’re proud to offer them and excited to present them to you on our three-day sale.

“There are no wines along the Mosel more honorable than those of Selbach-Oster. They are grounded, honest, intelligent and meaningful – like the family who produce them. Where wine is concerned I trust Johannes as I trust very few other people. He’s not only highly intelligent, he’s also smart and judicious. He has found his path. His wines have identity and purpose.” –Terry Theise, 2009 German Catalogue (emphasis in original)

“I recommend buying what’s available from Selbach-Oster now” –Stephan Reinhardt, writing on the 2019 vintage

“If you had to sum up Selbach’s wines in just a few words they would be ‘brilliant, complex, classic, and balanced.’” –Skurnik Wines

Very delicate and finessed on the palate, this is a piquant and saline, crystalline and playful Auslese in a digestible sweet style. The finish is crunchy, crystalline and slatey, which gives iodine flavors and lots of tension that uplifts the richness of this promising beauty. Tasted as a sample ready to be bottled in July 2022.”

Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenhuhr Riesling Beerenauslese 2018 375ml Was $79, Now $69, 11 half-bottles in stock now

“The 2018 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese displays an intense but very clear and radiant citrus color in the glass. The nose is concentrated and fresh, with lemon chutney and broken stone aromas. Pure and fresh on the palate, this is a dense, concentrated, rich yet very precise, fresh and elegant BA with a long, crunchy, terroir-driven finish that represents the delicate slate structure of the Sonnenuhr. Still young but not really sweet due to the crystalline acidity structure. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.”

Great Wines, Goodfellow

“Marcus Goodfellow is sourcing fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Willamette… dry farmed and from old vineyards planted to an array of clones. We visited the old, gnarled vines at Durant vineyard in Dundee Hills, planted with Pinot Noir in 1973 and with Chardonnay in 1993, and the Whistling Ridge Vineyard in Ribbon Ridge, planted in 1990. ‘Old vines are still the trump card,’ he says. ‘The vines situate themselves to the site. The old vines give wines that are ethereal, elegant, layered and don’t speak too loud.’ The wines combine layers of pure, ripe fruit, earth and amaro-like aromatics.” -Erin Brooks, writing for the Wine Advocate

Goodfellow Family Cellars Bishop Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir, Oregon, USA 2015 750ml $41.90 special, 24 bottles available
Vineyard Note “This vineyard was first planted to ungrafted rootstock in 1988 on tight 5×5 rows of three Pinot Noir clones (Pommard, Wädenswil, 777) in north-south facings blocks. This iconic site in the northern reaches of Yamhill-Carlton also features high-elevation Chardonnay clones (76, 95, 548) on the upper-bench of the property on rootstock dating back to the late 1990’s. Dramatic elevation changes, rugged growing conditions and an extremely low water table has pushed root systems deep (30-40’) into the porous and nutritionally deficient marine sedimentary soils of the Eocene Era and alluvial sands of the Missoula floods to produce wines of profound texture and immense structure. Nicolas-Jay Estate acquired Bishop Creek in 2014.” –Nicolas-jay.com

Winery Note “Yellow apple, pear, lime flower and peel, almonds, hints of tarragon and pastry dough. In the mouth, it’s more yellow apples and pear, underripe nectarine, lime peel, and a distinct stoniness. Bottled a year early from our normal Chardonnay program, the impetus for this wine was to push for a pretty, nervy, and slightly less lees inflected wine for everyday enjoyment. 12.0% abv and 198 cases produced.”

hot deal  Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, USA 2021 750ml $21.90 special, 36+ bottles available
Winery Note “The 2021 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir shows aromatics of sweet dark strawberry, boysenberry and black cherry fruits. On the palate more dark black and red fruits, coffee, floral, and amaro notes, and an overlying savory, dark and wild spice and kitchen herb. Tannins are fine, but firm on the finish, and the palate is juicy and medium-light bodied. As with all of our Pinot Noirs, fermentations are 100% whole cluster, and relatively cool and slow, with native yeast in small 1.5 ton bins, and free run wine goes directly into barrel where it sits on the lees undisturbed for the duration of elevage. Cooperage is a mixture of new and used larger format (500L) puncheons, and neutral barriques.”

Goodfellow Temperance Hill Chardonnay, Eola-Amity Hills, USA 2021 750ml $59 special, 12 bottles available
Audrey Frick-Jeb Dunnuck 96 Points “The 2021 Chardonnay Temperance Hill is incredible in its aromatics for lovers of well-managed reduction. Bright golden-yellow, it’s flush with flint wet stones, vibrant citrus, and golden pineapple. Full-bodied, with a core of driving citrus and energetic acidity, it has a long and saline finish, with a weightless feel and elegant balance. It has a lovely, rounded edge to its acidity and does not come across as harsh. This is an outstanding and age-worthy wine to drink 2025-2035.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Temperance Hill Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills, USA 2022 750ml $49 special, 12 bottles available
Winery Note “Cedar and tobacco, mulberry, black raspberry, fresh ground coffee, graphite, flint and stone. The black and red fruits are there, but with so much mineral intertwined and flowing through. More forward aromatically than our wines sometimes are at this age, it’s elegant, medium bodied, with finesse in the mid-palate and then shifts into a sturdier finish with fine tannins that show good depth with modest astringency.”

Goodfellow Family Cellars Pumphouse Block Temperance Hill Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills, USA 2022 750ml $54.50 special, 12 bottles available
Winery Note “From the steep east-facing slope on the far side of Temperance Hill. One to wait for, but absolutely worth it in the end. On first opening very tight, with tart red fruits and tannic structure on the palate that seems to overwhelm everything that came before. Then with a day or two open the wine blossoms: phenomenal texture and richness of weight, aromatics of lilac, five spice, cedar, cinnamon and rose petals, more cedar and cigar box, richer red fruits, wet stones…. hold for now, but the payout will be excellent.”

Goodfellow West Field Temperence Pinot NoirEola-Amity Hills, USA 2022 750ml $54.50 special, 12 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points “Also coming from Temperance Hill, the 2022 Pinot Noir West Field was raised in puncheons and pours a youthful red hue. It has a woodsy aromatic profile, with notes of pine, toasted spice, ripe, crystalline cherries, blood orange, and a sanguine lift on the nose. It reveals a good deal of depth and intensity on the palate, with a saturating, medium-bodied feel. It has a chiseled and dark mineral profile that lasts through the finish. Haunting and fantastic, this remarkable offering is going to be an impressive wine with great longevity. Drink 2025-2040.”

Leonetti & Figgins

Chris Figgins

“Leonetti Cellar is unquestionably Washington State’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon producer.” -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

Second generation winemaker Chris Figgins has brought his family’s winery, Leonetti, to new heights of quality and collectability and has established the Figgins winery as something all his own: a single vineyard project laser focused on French Bordeaux varietals. Both are fantastic and increasingly difficult to come by.

Leonetti Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley, USA 2021 750ml $139 special, 6 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 97+ Points “The classic 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon from this reference point estate checks in as 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Malbec raised 22 months in once-filled oak and neutral oval botti. Its vivid purple hue is followed by a perfumed, youthful bouquet of cassis and blue fruits that give way to more graphite, chalky minerality, violets, and spicy oak. It’s deep, rich, and medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a gorgeous mid-palate, ripe, building, polished tannins, and fabulous length on the finish. This absolutely brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be forgotten for 2-4 years and will evolve gracefully over the following two decades. It’s another sensational wine from the talents of Chris Figgins.”

Figgins Estate Red, Walla Walla Valley, USA 2020 750ml $112.50 special, 12 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points “The 2020 Red Wine showed brilliantly, with pure cassis, plums, dark chocolate, and graphite aromatics to go with a full-bodied, rich, wonderfully pure, elegant profile on the palate. This classic, structured, concentrated red is going to evolve for 25-30 years. The Red Wine is based on a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Merlot, all from the Figgins Estate Vineyard, that spent 22 months in new and once-used barrels.”

K Vintners ‘M.C.K. Motor City Kitty’ Syrah, Washington, USA 2021 750ml $39 special, 17 bottles available
James Suckling 99 Points “The aromas leap out of the glass. Wet earth, tapenade, green peppercorns, volcanic ash and tea leaves. Hints of orange peel. It’s electric on the palate, so savory, so earthy and so minerally, with stemmy and tea-like tannins. The freshness and energy are astounding, and the finish just keeps going. Delicious syrah. Drink or hold.”

Podere Poggio Scalette

Winebow, importer: “Il Carbonaione, Poggio Scalette’s signature wine, is the culmination of knowledge and experience and therefore an important message of quality. Vittorio Fiore dedicates this wine to Tuscany and to Sangiovese — the region and the variety that have allowed him to fulfill his aspirations to produce superb wine.”
Poggio Scalette ‘Il Carbonaione’  Alta Valle della Greve IGT, Tuscany, Italy, 2010 750ml $89 special, 12 bottles available
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 97 Points “The 2010 Carbonaione (Sangiovese) is a stunner. Deep, rich and utterly impeccable, the 2010 boasts breathtaking richness, energy and power. The flavors remain incredibly primary in a wine that will require years to develop. Graphite, crushed rocks, blue/black fruit, plums and smoke emerge over time. As phenomenal as the 2010 is today, it really should be cellared for at least a few years. This is a drop dead gorgeous wine from Vittorio and Jurij Fiore.”

Purple Hands Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, USA 2022 750ml $69 special, 6 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Points “A richer reflective ruby hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard is a savory wine with notes of wet stones, graphite, pine, fresh black cherries, mixed berries, and tea leaf. It is very appealing on the palate early on. with refined tannins and a juicy feel. It’s very attractive now, and it’s not going to slow down any time soon. Drink 2024-2040.”

Purple Hands Latchkey Vineyard Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, USA 2022 750ml $64.50 special, 6 bottles available
Jeb Dunnuck 96 Points “The 2022 Pinot Noir Latchkey Vineyard is from 18-year-old vines grown on ancient volcanic soils. A bit deeper ruby red, it’s aromatic of black raspberries, rosemary, pressed flowers, and anise. Medium to full-bodied, it is ripe with a rounded, plush, approachable feel, but it has seamless structure and is going to age gracefully over the coming 12-15 years.”

WAS $149
Castello Terriccio Lupicaia Toscana IGT 2009 750ml $128 special, 6 bottles available
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95 Points “Beautifully resonant in the glass, the 2009 Lupicaia is a standout. Sweet red cherries, flowers, mint, anise, savory herbs and spices all ring out in a supple, gracious wine loaded with class. The 2009 needs a few years for some of the contours to soften, but it is a gorgeous wine with tons of personality. This is a decidedly round, sexy Lupicaia that is going to offer plenty of enjoyment over the course of the next fifteen years or so…. Lupicaia is Cabernet Sauvignon with a dollop of Merlot and Petit Verdot that can vary from year to year. The wine is fermented in stainless steel for 16-18 days with frequent delestage and subsequently aged in French oak barrels. Between 1999 and 2000 the estate began to reduce their reliance on new oak, lowered toasts levels and also shortened the amount of time the wine spends in barrel as they moved away from the excessively oaky style that was in vogue in Italy in the mid to late 1990s. The results in recent vintages have been nothing less than striking.”

WAS $199
San Giusto A Rentennano Percarlo Toscana IGT 2016 750ml $179 special, 8 bottles available
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 99 Points “The 2016 Percarlo captures all of the beauty it has always shown in the cellar. Pliant, silky and exceptionally polished, the 2016 simply has it all. Freshly cut flowers, rose petal, mint, spice and blood orange add striking aromatic nuance to a core of brilliant Sangiovese fruit. Powerful and ample, with superb aromatic lift, the 2016 Percarlo is exceptionally beautiful and moving from the very first taste. A whole range of floral and mineral notes extend the finish effortless. The tannins need time to soften, so readers should plan on at least a few years of cellaring. In a word: compelling.”

WAS $249
De Venoge Louis XV Brut 2008 750ml $219 special, 31 bottles available
James Suckling 95 Points “This is really punchy and broad-shouldered with muscular structure and citrusy undertones. Full body. Lightly tannic and a fresh and vivid finish. This is the first vintage without malolactic fermentation ever. One for the cellar. Better in 2022.”

WAS $259
Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello Sugarille 2018 750ml $219 special, 5 bottles available
Wine Spectator 95 Points “A dark, brooding 2018, with accents of smoke, vanilla, iron and tar surrounding a core of cherry and plum flavors. Reveals balsamic elements of eucalyptus and wild herbs on the lingering finish. On the austere side now, with a core of fruit and mineral. Best from 2025 through 2043.”

WAS $419
Biondi Santi Il Greppo Brunello Riserva 2011 750ml $379 special, 12 bottles available
Wine Enthusiast  96 Points “Beautifully balanced, this opens with alluring scents of wild berry, rose, baking spice and whiffs of chopped herb. Seamlessly combining ripe fruit and the firm’s trademark finesse, the bright elegantly structured palate delivers juicy wild cherry, crushed raspberry, white pepper and a hint of black tea framed in polished tannins and fresh acidity. It’s already tempting but the best is yet to come. Drink 202-2031.”

WAS $999
Royal Tokaji Essencia, Tokaj, Hungary 2009 375ml $899 special, 3 bottles available
James Suckling 99 Points “Wine does not get more concentrated, dense and viscous than this Tokaji Essencia, but alongside the unctuous sweetness, it also has extraordinary freshness. The fruit aromas range from blood to quince jelly, but there’s also a slew of spices and notes of flowers and forest honey. Although it barely has 2% alcohol, it is much more vinous than that figure suggests. Titanic brulee character at the huge finish. Just 1,386 half-bottles were made. Should live longer than any of us! Drink or hold.”

“50% Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay. Assemblage: 100% 2008. Vineyard/Village: 50% old vine Verzenay Grand Cru Pinot Noir, 50% Chardonnay from Les Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru. Malo: no. Elevage: Pinot Noir in used French oak, Chardonnay in stainless steel. En Tirage Aging: 102 months.
“A fourth-generation producer, David Pehu has taken this 7.5-hectare domaine, located in the Grand Cru of Verzenay in a decidedly ‘Burgundian’ direction. After coming to the estate in 1988, David’s philosophy changed with time, adjusting to focus on certified organic farming and single site and single Cru expressions… In Verzenay Grand Cru, David farms 3.5 hectares including very old vine parcels. Apart from a very small parcel in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the majority of the holdings are all in the Grand Crus of Verzy, Sillery, Mailly, and Bouzy… Pehu strictly avoids the malolactic for all of his wines, including the red wines used for making rosé, as he believes that blocking the malo through a very cold cellar better preserves the finesse and expression of fruit in the long run.”

This haunting and fragrant expression from the brothers Bérêche is charming and full of rich notes of brioche and citrus peel. Break out during the cheese course and enjoy with fruit or pork pâté, buttery seafood dishes, and cream-based dishes.
Raphael & Vincent Bérêche Oger Grand Cru Cote des Blancs Extra Brut 2016 750ml Was $135, Displayed Price: $124, that’s $117.80 at 5% off and $111.60 at 10% off, 26 bottles in stock now
VinopolNote:
Oger is a tiny, Grand Cru village in the Côte des Blancs region of Champagne. It is often mistaken for Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, given the similarity in name. In Peter Liem’s book, “Champagne” Rodolphe Péters of Pierre Péters describes it as producing wines with “delicate with aromas of red fruit and tangerine.” Liem goes on to describe the village as producing riper and more fragrant wines than Mesnil due to the east-facing bowl that captures sunlight. Wine from the village is also used as the basis for Charles Heidsieck’s Grand Cru Côte des Blancs blends.

Crafted by Burgundy house Olivier Leflaive, this Champagne is all Chardonnay hailing from one of Champagne’s finest villages: Le Mesnil Sur Oger. Full of finesse, this wine shows the serious side of terroir through a Burgundian lens. This is a superb pairing for Thanksgiving’s challenging combination of rich, decedent and often sweet main course dishes such as roast squash, mushroom or giblet gravy, and rosemary mashed potatoes.

“[Review is for different disgorgement] Aromas of apple pie with lemon curd and stone. Full-bodied with a solid palate of layered fruit and phenolics. Dense and focused with lots of fruit, yet composed and focused. Structured. Almost tannic. Dosage 5g/L.”

From the fantastic Grand Cru village of Bouzy, this vintage is ready to unfurl in your glass tonight. As the importer suggests, open with your favorite poultry, glazed carrots, or pan seared mushrooms!
Paul Bara Grand Cru Brut Grand Millésimé 2016 750ml Displayed Price: $79, that’s $75.05 at 5% off and $71.10 at 10% off, 9 bottles in stock now
Decanter World Wine Awards 94 points
“Appealing aromas of maple and pecan, then on to a plate of subtle honey, walnut, red fruit and polished mineral.”
Importer Note “Non-vintage, entry level Champagne tends to sing best all by itself, or perhaps with just some simple appetizers. Vintage bottles on the other hand have more grip and a bit of weight than their blended counterparts and often have their best moments at table. The 2016 Brut Grand Cru from Bara is one such wine. Don’t just pair with classic white wine dishes, but stretch your imagination and try with lighter red wine pairings—roasted bird, pork chops or tenderloin, or hearty vegetable dishes.”

One of the greatest producers of NV BdB from fantastic terroir in the Côte des Blancs. This is seriously delish and beautifully balanced. Serve with freshly baked rolls and turkey with white gravy.

“Croissants, toasted sourdough, white pears, acacia and lemon meringue pie. Salty almond notes on the palate. Deliciously saline and creamy, with silky bubbles and a gently toasty finish. 100% chardonnay from Mesnil, Avize and Oger. Based on 2017 vintage with 20% reserve wines. Drink now. – July 19, 2023”

A fabulous vintage that is in its peak, this Pinot Noir/Chardonnay blend will look stunning on your table and enliven roasted turkey, classic stuffing, or even your favorite casserole recipe.
De Venoge Louis XV Brut Millésimé 2006 750ml Was $189, Displayed Price: $169, that’s $160.55 at 5% off and $152.10 at 10% off, 22 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 96 points
“The assemblage of the 2006 Louis XV Brut Millésimé is about the same as the 1995 and 1996—composed of 50/50 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, all from grand cru villages. The only difference is that the Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger (10% of the assemblage) spent 12 months in oak barrels. Disgorged in January 2017 (dosage: six grams per liter), the 2006 has a golden color and opens with a deep, ripe, elegant and vinous bouquet with toasty and chalky lemon and fresh white fruit flavors. On the palate, this is an intense, round, fresh and complex Louis XV with great purity and finesse. The wine opens on the palate like a soufflé, coating the whole palate without any pressure or weight—gorgeous! This is a delicate and fresh yet well-structured and persistent Louis XV whose intense and long but weightless finish reveals lovely, almost juicy fruit concentration with perfectly integrated freshness and lasting minerality that seems to give additional structure. The 2006 shows a lot of Chardonnay features right now and drinks perfectly today; however, it can be kept under perfect conditions for decades. Just keep it in the box, because the bottle is white and nothing makes a Champagne age faster than exposure to daylight.”

William Kelley-Wine Advocate 90 points
“The latest release of Clouet’s deeply colored NV Brut Rosé No 3 Grand Cru is showing well, opening in the glass with notes of blood orange, red berries, ripe apples and oatmeal. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, broad and vinous, with ripe acids, a frothy mousse and a moderately intense finish. This is an attractive, gastronomic rosé that hails exclusively from Bouzy.” [Reviewed April 2019]

Love a fun and fruity number? This is a bubbly ready for a crowd. With bold fruit flavors and a bone-dry palate, this is charming on its own by flexible enough to take on glazed ham or buttery sweet potatoes. This won’t be amiss with butter cookies or spiced apple tart.
Elise Dechannes Tradition Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2017 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 7 bottles in stock now
VinopolNote:
This grower style Blanc de Noirs is ripe, bright, and full of flavor, body, and bubbles! Pear and green apple are found on the nose and palate, with orange and cherry notes showing throughout out the mid-palate and finish. The bubbles are taught and refreshing. This Champagne speaks for itself and is beautifully unique and yummy.

Rich and bold with a gentle sweetness, this will nicely accent seared squash and cornbread stuffing. Try with hard-to-pair dishes such as roast parsnips to bring out the wine’s herbal side. Don’t forget to save a glass or two for pumpkin pie.
R. Dumont & Fils Cuvee Rosé Brut NV 750ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 9 bottles in stock now
Importer Note
“The Dumont Brut Rosé is made exclusively from Pinot Noir. A selection is made in the vineyard from parcels that are particularly ripe and from bunches with deeply colored skins. Fermentation proceeds as with red wines but the wine is drawn off the skins after a day or so with the Dumonts looking carefully at the balance of extraction, color and tannin. This method, known as “saignée”, is a tricky art but one that can produce the most natural and delicately complex style of Rosé champagne. The Brut Rosé NV is aged for two years on the lees before disgorgement and dosage is 10 grams.”

“The 2014 Riesling Auslese Rothenpfad displays a lovely, clear and slate-like bouquet, with herbal and tropical fruit flavors. Sweet and piquant on the palate, this is a rich and very elegant, well balanced Riesling with a great delicacy, and fruit-intense and piquant finish. Very stimulating. The residual sugar of 135 grams per liter is almost blown away by the acidity and minerality.”

“The 2022 Riesling trocken is harvested on either side of the Mosel: the village-side sites plus the pre-harvest from the Marienburg side. The rather shy nose has lovely pear and lemon notes. The lithe palate is more forthcoming with fruit, showing tender pear, lemon, and slight white pepper. A dry, very lemon-pronounced finish.”
