Pinot Noir Parade

One of the harder grapes to produce, Pinot Noir is well worth the effort involved to produce these elegant and well-balanced red wines. Most famous in Burgundy, where it is the only grape permitted in producing the famous red wines of the Côte d’Or, Pinot Noir thrives in cooler climates. Burgundy’s noble grape has taken root in several countries around the world, gaining notoriety in California and, perhaps with the most fame, Oregon, where the Willamette Valley provides a climate quite similar to that of Burgundy. Great Pinot Noir is a decadent experience, known for exotic aromas as well earthy and vividly fruity qualities of red fruit, cherry, toast and spices. Evening Land’s Seven Springs Vineyard

Founded in 2005, Evening Land Vineyards’ mission is to develop a global reputation as a pioneer in the exploration of great terroir for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with holdings throughout the Eola-Amity Hills and the Sonoma Coast in California. Winemaker Isabelle Meunier, along with her collaborator Dominique Lafon, have proven over the years that they are prepared to make investments and take chances in order to elevate their wines to the top quality level.

New Arrival Champagne
Maison Ruinart

Maison Ruinart was founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, the nephew of the monk Dom Ruinart who had a passion for and foresaw a future for sparkling wine from the Champagne region.  The Ruinart family managed the estate for two centuries.  After WWI, the house was headed by Mary Kate Charlotte Riboldi who returned the house to its former glory after the destruction of the war.

The Ruinart Blanc de Blanc is blended from grapes grown in the Premier Cru vineyards in the Cote des Blancs and Montagne de Reims.  The wine is matured for three years in the underground chalk tunnels of the estate that are former Gallo-Roman chalk quarries purchased by the estate in 1768. … Read the rest

An oft overlooked continent for wine, South America is notable for its dramatic diurnal temperature swings, natural phylloxera resistance (in some areas), and lush, aromatic reds.  Below, we are featuring two wineries making fantastic wines at bargain prices: Santa Rita and Dona Paula.
Santa Rita – Chile
The Santa Rita winery was founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernandez Concha near Alto Jahuel, Chile.  Around this time, Chile was becoming known for its natural resistance to the phylloxera louse, due to its isolation and its inhospitable sandy soils.  Since grafting onto resistant rootstock is largely unnecessary there, most vineyards are planted with original rootstock.  In 1985, the company began focusing on exporting wines and rapid expansion took place shortly afterwards boosted by the reputation and value of the brand.

Since 1846, the Stucchi Prinetti family has been master of the estate, balancing history and innovation to create one of Chianti Classico’s best-loved wineries. Today, the estate is composed of vineyards, chestnut and olive trees, all of them lying on one of the best sites in the Chianti area, where the soil is very rich and the climate is mild and sunny all year round.
