The 2011 / 2012 / 2013 vintages in Burgundy were all characterized by reduced yields. And, on the commercial side a propensity towards price increases to compensate growers and importers for wine not made nor traded. Our reaction was to double up on our 2010 orders (in 2012) and simultaneously re-buy all the better and well-priced 2008 & 2009 that we could find. Today we’d like to share with you our remaining stocklist on 2010 vintage:

It’s a family business based in Oyon in Rioja Alavesa, and the largest private holder of vineyards in Rioja, spread across the region. The style of the RIoja is as classic as the packaging: look for the sweet, vanilla notes of American oak, plenty of bright cherry fruit, and a fine, delicate palate. For those interested in tasting great old Riojas, Faustino is one company that still releases older vintages going as far back as 1970.

Sweet grilled herbs and spices add a final flourish on the powerful close, with notes of brightness from the Sangiovese that act as a foil to some of the darker nuances in the wine. Two Great Champagne Producers Arriving Next Week

Champagne Bérèche et Fils

Leon and Albert Bereche founded the family estate in 1847 with only 2.5 hectares of vineyard land in Ludes, Champagne.  The family mostly produced grapes to sell to larger houses.  Beginning in the 1950s, successive generations expanded the property and aquired land in the Vallee de la Marne.  Today, the estate has 9.5 hectares spread over 21 parcels in three areas of the Montagne de Reims and the Vallee de la Marne.
Although the family has been producing their own wines since the 1970s, it was the fifth generation of winemakers and the current owners, brothers Raphael and Vincent Bereche, that refocused the estate on production of their own wines and brought international fame and recognition for the impressive results.  … Read the rest
