Did you know that the Rogue Valley is Oregon’s oldest winemaking region? Unlike the Willamette Valley, which focuses on Burgundian varietals and winemaking techniques (and a fair number of Burgundian winemakers themselves!), the Rogue Valley boasts one of the most diverse selection of styles and grapes in any established winemaking region in America. The one hundred or so wineries that call it home emphasize sustainability.
Full-time physician Dr. Peter Adesman and his wife, Dr. Robin Miller, planted the Peter William estate vineyard in 2013 after decades of work collecting, consuming, and educating on wine. They grow Roussanne, Grenache, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Malbec at the estate and purchase from other Rogue Valley vineyards. The resulting wines are enjoyable and approachable, both in terms of drinkability and cost.

Peter William Sauvignon Blanc, Rogue Valley 2024 750ml $24 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Wine Enthusiast 91 points “Peaches, fresh-cut grass and a whiff of flint kick this summertime special off in fine fashion. There are more peaches on the palate, where they are joined by white grapefruit and fennel flavors. The combination of peach and fennel causes the mouth to water, as does the wine’s acidity.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Peter William Vineyard Lot B-42 Syrah, Rogue Valley 2019 750ml $24 special, 7 bottles in stock now
Michael Alberty-Wine Enthusiast 92 points “Forget the B-52s, this B-42 is where it’s at. Boysenberry, lavender and roasted pork aromas are joined by a touch of orange creamsicle. If that’s due to the 3% co-fermented Viognier, thank you Viognier. An elegant mouthfeel with bright acidity escorts flavors like black cherry and English breakfast tea.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Peter William Vineyard Lot B-42 Syrah, Rogue Valley 2020 750ml $29 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Wine Enthusiast 93 points “The wine that sounds like a winning Bingo call is one heck of a nice Syrah. Its opening aromatic salvo of ripe black cherries and violets should be the flavor of a hard candy. B-42’s blackberry, rosemary and mint flavors are equally enticing. This medium-bodied wine packs some seriously juicy acidity to keep things nice and nimble. Defy convention and serve with grilled rock lobster.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Peter William Vineyard Lot B-42 Reserve Syrah, Rogue Valley 2018 750ml $36 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Norm Roby-Wine Review Online 94 points “One of the winery’s 3 Syrahs made in this vintage, this Reserve was co-fermented with 3% Viognier. After a cold soak and long fermentation, it was aged 19 months in French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. As signaled by the dark purple color, this is a sturdy Syrah built for the long haul. As it sits in the glass it eventually unwinds to reveal aromas of ripe dark plum and blackberry with earthy, gamey background notes. As it continues to evolve, the flavors are focused on black fruit with clove and earthy spice presented in a medium full-bodied style. The mouthfeel is plush and the full throttle ripeness is nicely controlled by light tannin. Will age well for at least 5 years. The winery’s 2018 B-42 Syrah is made in a more accessible, ripe fruit-filled pretty style and is an excellent value. “B-42″ references the winemaking facility.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Peter William Vineyard Grenache, Rogue Valley 2023 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles in stock now
Wine Enthusiast 89 points “This wine, fermented in 100% neutral French oak, contains 9% Syrah. It is lighter-bodied, with aromas and flavors of boysenberries, lilacs, black cherries, dark chocolate and cedar. The wine’s airy texture is matched by bright acidity and silky tannins. Try pouring it as an aperitif with a cured meat tray.”

Peter William GSM, Rogue Valley 2022 750ml $29 special, 24 bottles in stock now
No reviews for 2022. 2020 provided for reference.
Norm Roby-Wine Review Online 95 points “While many GSM blends are made for current enjoyment, this limited production (100 case) gem rises above the crowd. The blend consists of 39% Grenache, 31% Syrah and 30% Mourvèdre. And the hefty dose of Mourvèdre may explain its unusual depth and complexity. Deep and dark, it offers an intense, perfumed aroma of blackberry, herbs, and lots of spice. On the palate it is rich and full-flavored with deep, dark fruits and an earthy note. But all so nicely woven for a harmonious impression. It was aged for 18 months in 50% neutral and 50% twice used oak, and the oak adds a subtle hint of spice. A real standout, one of the best tasted in recent memory.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Peter William Vineyard Malbec, Rogue Valley 2019 750ml $29 special, 13 bottles in stock now
Norm Roby-Wine Review Online 92 points “Unable to decide which vintage should be released first, the winery decided to offer both its 2018 and 2019 Malbec at the same time and price. Both are from the same vineyard block made by the same winemaker. Both were aged 18 months in 30% new oak barrels. The major difference is the oak; in 2018 it was American, whereas the oak in 2019 is French. The differences were subtle, but with time in the glass the 2019 displayed more finesse and complexity. It comes across as a pretty, elegant Malbec with spiced dark plum fruit and baking spice flavors, refined, smooth tannin and light oak. Overall, the 2019 has more polish and a potential to develop with short term cellaring.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Peter William Vineyard Malbec Reserve, Rogue Valley 2020 750ml $33 special, 23 bottles in stock now
Michael Alberty-Wine Enthusiast 92 points “Dark raspberry and straw aromas are brambly and dusty, while violets linger in the background. The cherry and caramel apple flavors are rich, but not cloying. The wine’s tannins are firm, the acidity crisp. Wines like this make me think Malbec should be in the conversation regarding Oregon’s signature grapes.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!
Peter William Vineyard Tempranillo Lot W, Rogue Valley 2019 750ml $27 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Wine Enthusiast 90 points “Aged 19 months in American oak, 30% new, this burly Tempranillo leads with aromas of smoked red cherries, pipe tobacco, cooked meat and freshly baled hay. The wine’s chewy tannins provide able support for cranberry and cherry flavors encircled by notes of balsa wood and bittersweet dark chocolate.”

Ovum ‘Music for Lovers’ Gewurztraminer, Rogue Valley 2023 750ml $21.90 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “2023 OVUM Gewurz is restrained, elegant and refined. Framed by floral elements, flamed orange peel and flint, this 2023 is different. A cool growing season lead to extended days of sunlight in the harvest window of mid-October. Little to no botrytis brought us clean fruit, that was remarkably high in acid for the variety. That acidity is prominent on the palate, giving this bottling structure for aging. It is one of our most age worthy Gewürztraminers to date, and will pair very well with most sushi, roasted veg and fowl, or classic Alsatian cuisine.”
This is the lowest listed price on the West Coast!
Ovum ‘Old Love’ White Blend, Oregon 2024 750ml $19 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “OLD LOVE is produced the same way as Big Salt – with a focus on developing a silky texture. The aromas are more layered and complex, and the texture is richer while remaining crisp at the same time. OLD LOVE is a dry, white blend that dreams of capturing the summer sun in a bottle of wine. Aromas of fresh cut blood orange, salty lemon and aloe vera typify this racy, texturally rich white wine. Guided by mother nature, we combine the Big Salt process, with a proprietary aging process to elevate the terroir that each of our five vineyards bring us (citrus, salinity, bright acidity, florality, ripe apricot).”

Cameron Winery ‘Arley’s Leap’ Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2023 750ml $59 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “The nose has a compelling balance of savory and fruit aromas – black olive and plum, cherry and leather, bergamot, violet and salumi. The palette is round and warm, with a bright, mouthwatering finish.Sourced from the highest elevation plot of Pinot Noir at Abbey Ridge, Arley’s Leap is comprised of the famous Martin Ray Clones. These vines yield small, variable clusters and regularly produce some of our best wines. The plot is named after Bill and Julia Wayne’s old dog Arley, who survived a jump from a second story balcony when startled by a cat.”

Cameron Winery Abbey Ridge ‘Julia’ Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2022 750ml $108 special, 7 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “The Martin Ray massale at Abbey Ridge Vineyard, planted in 1987, comprise the highest elevation and lowest-yielding pinot noir vines at Abbey Ridge and regularly produce some of our most dense, compelling wines. The Julia cuvée is the single best barrel from this small lot. The wine spends two years in barrique and another year in bottle before release. The nose is precise and full with currants, anise, chocolate and loam, and makes way for a brooding, dark-fruited palette and a long, lingering finish. The label represents a native Madrone tree which grows next to the vineyard. Named in honor of Julia Wayne of Abbey Ridge, this extremely limited wine (only 580 bottles) is elegant and charming, just like its namesake.”
By the talented Matt Reynvaan of Reynvaan Family Vineyards, this is a must-have for the season for any Walla Walla lover!

Result of a Crush ‘Christmas Cuvee’, Walla Walla Valley 2022 750ml $27 special, 34 bottles in stock now
Owen Bargreen 93 points “The 2022 ‘Christmas Cuvee’ is loaded with garrigue, Hoisin sauce, black olives, charcuterie and black currant flavors on the palate, showing beautiful finesse and minerality. The flavor range is outstanding. It is medium-bodied and delicious stuff that is already beautifully evolved. Drink 2025-2033.”

Aubry Premier Cru Brut Rosé, Champagne NV 750ml $59 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Audrey Frick-Jeb Dunnuck 90 points “The NV Champagne Brut Rosé pours a very pale salmon hue, with a floral bouquet of rose petal, bread dough, fresh peach, and cantaloupe. The palate is zippy and medium-bodied, with an approachable and refreshing nature, offering grapefruit zest with a saline touch. This is a pretty wine and a great value with a springy feel.”

Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Louis Blanc de Blancs Millésime, Champagne 2013 750ml $189 special, 6 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 96 points “This blanc de blancs is very pure and fresh, showing white flowers, light hazelnuts, peaches and grapefruit on the nose, with a hint of oyster shells. It’s sleek and chalky on the palate, linear and racy, with very fine bubbles and a bright acidic backbone. 100% stainless steel vinification. Chardonnay from Cramant, Chouilly, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and some Oiry. 4 g/L dosage. Disgorged January 2024. Drink or hold.

R.H. Coutier Cuvée la Pierre aux Larrons Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, Champagne 2016 750ml $99 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points “The 2016 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Pierre Aux Larrons Grand Cru is a powerful wine showing Chardonnay’s savory, phenolic side. Dried flowers, herbs, chamomile and a discreet touch of oak all grace this wonderfully expressive, vinous Champagne. This is sourced from the very first plot of Chardonnay ever planted by the Courier family in 1948. Zero dosage. (Drink between 2024-2031).”
R.H. Coutier Cuvée Tradition Grand Cru Brut, Champagne NV 750ml $44.50 special, 12 bottles in stock now
R.H. Coutier Cuvée Tradition Grand Cru Brut, Champagne NV 375ml $31.90 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 91 points “The NV Brut Tradition Grand Cru is stellar. Kirsch, dried flowers, spice, dried pear and mint all show a slightly burnished quality that makes me think it is best suited to near term drinking. I don’t imagine ageability will be a problem, however, as most bottles will likely be long gone before that is an issue. The richness and breadth of Ambonnay Pinot are very much in evidence. There are no hard edges to this vinous, heady Champagne from Coutier. This release is 60% 2015 and 40% reserve wines. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: July, 2022.”
This is the lowest listed price on the West Coast!
R.H. Coutier Grand Cru Brut Rosé, Champagne NV 750ml $54.50 special, 14 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 90 points “The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is super-expressive from the first taste. Dried rose petals, mint, orange peel, jasmine and bright saline notes abound. This mid-weight nervy rose has a ton to offer. There’s plenty of depth, but it is expressed in an understated way. This is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from Ambonnay.”
R.H. Coutier Grand Cru Extra Brut Cuvée Millésime, Champagne 2015 750ml $79 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 92 points “From the 2015 vintage, the Extra Brut Cuvée Millésime Grand Cru is a very good wine for the year. Bright and sculpted, the 2015 impresses with its energy and cut. Citrus peel, mint, white pepper and crushed rocks all race across the palate. This cuvée, only produced in the best vintages, is a blend of 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir, with the Chardonnay very much in the driver’s seat. Aged for 96 months sur latte. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. (Drink between 2023-2030).”
Marc Hebrart Sélection Premier Cru Brut, Champagne NV 750ml $69 special, 15 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 91 points “[Reviewed Nov 2023] The NV Brut Sélection is a blend from Mareuil-sur-Ay, Avenay-Val-d’Or and Bisseuil. Aromatic and vibrant, the Brut Sélection impresses with its balance and sensuality. Lemon confit, white flowers, apricot, mint, chamomile and plum meld together in an understated, classy Champagne ready to go now. I loved it.”
Eric Rodez Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru, Champagne NV 750ml $95 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Falstaff Magazine 92 points “Light golden yellow with silver reflections and a fine, persistent mousse. On the nose there is fine yellow pear fruit, a little greengage, candied orange zest and some biscuit. The palate is taut and close-knit, with lively structure, white fruit, a salty core of fruit on the finish and lime on the aftertaste.”
Eric Rodez Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, Champagne NV 750ml $89 special, 9 bottles in stock now
Winemaker’s Note “Offering up aromas of green orchard fruit, hazelnuts, and waxy citrus that are delicately framed by their time in barrel, Rodez’s Blanc de Blancs is a medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy with a focused spine of acidity, energetic mousse and a long, vinous, chalky finish. 48+ months en tirage, 3 g/l dosage.”

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Taillepieds, Volnay Premier Cru 2021 750ml $119 special, 3 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “This cuvée is one of the most complete representations of the complexity that can be found in the finest Volnays as it is from one of the great vineyards of that village. Bitouzet owns 0.72 hectares in this renowned mid-slope premier cru, planted in 1971, 1983, and 1997. The poor, hard limestone soils of Taillepieds produce a wine of thundering minerality whose presence is felt even through its blatantly salty finish, and the savory red fruits and subtle floral notes, gorgeous as they are, take a backseat to this overarching impression of mother-rock. It has deep color, lots of material and is an aggressive wine with loads of character marked by minerality and notes of soubois. Although it can be austere in its youth, this wine has proven its worth over and over in countless vintages: a real keeper.”
This is the lowest listed price on the West Coast!
Jérôme Chezeaux Bourgogne Blanc 2023 750ml $36 special, 5 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “Comprised of rare Pinot Blanc in Burgundy (from a third of a hectare of old vines planted over 70 years ago by Jérôme’s grandfather near their home in the village of Prémeaux-Prissey) blended with around one-quarter Chardonnay from the lieu-dit of Aux Cachottes at the southern end of Prémeaux, below Clos de la Maréchale and Les Vignottes. Though clearly expressing the underlying limestone, its fruit tends to be more pit-fruit-driven, slightly waxier, and with a whiff of exotic flowers not typically associated with Côte d’Or Chardonnay. The old vines lend body to this typically lightweight varietal, making it suitable for barrel fermentation and ageing (with no new oak). Given the low yields, only a handful of barrels are produced each vintage.”
This is the lowest listed price on the West Coast!
Jérôme Chezeaux Nuits-Saint-Georges 2022 750ml $74.50 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “Chezeaux’s holdings of villages-level Nuits-Saint-Georges encompass 3.3 hectares spread throughout the appellation, with a significant proportion from the vineyards of Aux Saint Jacques and Chaliots. In keeping with the spirit of the underlying terroir, this is wilder in character than his Vosne-Romanée, marked by notes of iron, and with a rambunctious bent to its tannins. Never deficient in fruit, it offers plenty of earth and sous-bois elements as well, all in a driving fashion.”

Jérôme Chezeaux Bourgogne Pinot Noir Les Chassagnes 2022 750ml $39 special, 6 bottles in stock now

Jérôme Chezeaux Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Charbonnieres Vieilles Vignes 2022 750ml $79 special, 2 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “This Nuits villages cuvée from Chezeaux is selected from the oldest vines of Les Charbonnières—planted in 1920, 1930 and 1935—The vineyard is situated just below the premier cru Aux Corvées on the slope in the appellation’s southern sector and typically sees millerandage (shot berries) with very low yields. Boasting true old-vines power, this is always thicker-fruited and exuberantly spicy, with great length. Its lusciousness, however, does nothing to mask the underlying complexity that sets this cuvée apart.”
Jérôme Chezeaux Vosne-Romanée 2022 750ml $99 special, 2 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “Chezeaux owns a half-hectare’s worth of villages-level Vosne-Romanée, spread among three vineyards: Aux Réas, Bossières, and Mezière. His remarkably deft touch allows classically Vosne-Romanée spice and silk notes to shine through brilliantly, with dark, seductive fruit contrasting the gutsier carriage of its Nuits-Saint-Georges cousins.”

Jérôme Chezeaux Vosne-Romanée Aux Reas 2022 750ml $108 special, 4 bottles in stock now

VinopolNote: This is one for the wine geeks. Produced from 20% Gamay and 80% Gamaret (pronounced like Gamma Ray) a clone of Gamay first created in Switzerland. Expect Blackberry and Strawberry, plus mild tannins and a soft undercurrent of earthy minerality. Highly recommended.

Anne-Sophie Dubois Fleurie Les Cocottes, Beaujolais 2023 750ml $31.90 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Importer Note “Starting with the 2015 vintage, Anne-Sophie has decided to release a different side of her Fleurie. Up until then, all of her Fleuries were 100% destemmed and fermented in a Burgundian-style. In stark contrast to her usual style, she is making Les Cocottes with 100% whole cluster and using carbonic maceration. It is released the Spring after the vintage and is intended to be fruit driven and drunk early & often.”

Anne-Sophie Dubois Fleurie l’Alchimiste, Beaujolais 2023 750ml $33 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Winemaker Note “From southwest facing vineyards in Fleurie AOC. Soils are highly granitic. Dark berried fruits, tempered by mineral and black tea nuances. Seamless and very elegant.”
This is the only listing in the USA today for the magnum!
Anne-Sophie Dubois Fleurie Les Labourons, Beaujolais 2023 1.5L $99 special, 1 magnum in stock now
Importer Note “Whereas previously the wine was a selection of the oldest fruit, Anne-Sophie has decided to take the selection one step farther and make it a selection of the best fruit from the old vine parcel. Les Labourons is the name of the lieu dit in Fleurie. In 2017, after recieving her organic certification, she wanted to rename the wine and have a new label drawn to showcase the new chapter in her winemaking. Despite the label and name change, Anne Sophie’s approach to vinification is the same as vintages past. It is 100% destemmed and aged for around 13 months in 228L neutral oak barrels.”

Neal Martin-Wine Advocate 93 points “The 2014 Tour Saint-Christophe comes from Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, the lieu-dit Cassevert, where proprietor Peter Kwok has built some quite startling terraces on the slope to improve the terroir (apparently recruited from Spain as only they possess the technical know-how). My, what a Saint Emilion this is. It has a very well-defined bouquet with crisp, pure mineral-rich red and black fruit. I like the focus here; there is an intention to perform at the top level that comes through where it matters—in the glass. The palate is silky smooth with a fine line of acidity, layers of red cherry and blueberry fruit, leading to a detailed and very satisfying, long finish. This 2014 serves notice of a new, bright kid on the block.”

Raul Perez Ultreia La Cova de la Raposa, Bierzo 2020 750ml $59 special, 20 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 92 points “I found very ripe aromas in the 2020 Ultreia Cova de la Raposa and notes of ink and licorice and a touch of cured meat and smoke. This is very round and lush, from a warm zone with sandy soils, south-facing and with a tendency to ripen early. It’s creamy and spherical. There was only one 500-liter oak barrel of this, so some 600 bottles. This was not produced in 2019.”

Raul Perez Ultreia Rapolao Mencia, Bierzo 2021 750ml $64.50 special, 33 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 96 points “The 2021 Ultreia Rapolao aged exclusively in a 1,000-liter oak foudre that was used before for a white wine and seems to have marked the wine with abundant toasty notes and a spicy twist, with notes of toasted sesame seeds even if the wine only spent 10 months in wood. It has medium-ripeness, moderate alcohol (13%) and a medium-bodied palate with a tender mouthfeel and oak-related flavors in the finish. Is it going to digest the oak nicely? 1,200 bottles produced.”

Joaquín Hidalgo-Vinous 94 points “The 2020 Cabernet Franc Calcáreo Coluvio, from Altamira in the Uco Valley, is garnet red in color. The nose consists of ash, green pepper, blackcurrant and hints of sour cherry. Delivering full-bodied flavor in the mouth, with sour cherry especially prominent on the palate, it grows more vigorous and light-footed as it goes on with good freshness and a hint of chalk. The alcohol lends structure. The 2020 is an unusual wine in that it’s both ripe and very fresh. Drink: 2022-2034.”

Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points “The 2016 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Pierre Aux Larrons Grand Cru is a powerful wine showing Chardonnay’s savory, phenolic side. Dried flowers, herbs, chamomile and a discreet touch of oak all grace this wonderfully expressive, vinous Champagne.

Eric Rodez Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru, Champagne NV 750ml $95 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Falstaff Magazine 92 points “Light golden yellow with silver reflections and a fine, persistent mousse. The palate is taut and close-knit, with lively structure, white fruit, a salty core of fruit on the finish and lime on the aftertaste.”

Les Labourons is the name of the lieu dit in Fleurie. In 2017, after recieving her organic certification, she wanted to rename the wine and have a new label drawn to showcase the new chapter in her winemaking. Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 93 points “The second vintage of the red from Valdeorras is the 2020 Lg. Valbuxan (Lugar de Valbuxan, a place from O Bolo). It comes through as austere and serious, a little closed but unmistakably Valdeorras with that combination of wild berries, flowers and herbs. The wine has contained ripeness at 13% alcohol, with restraint and balance. It was produced with a blend of grapes—Mencía, Merenzao, Sousón (a little more this year; it’s a grape with very good acidity, the only one fermented separately), Garnacha, Godello and Brancellao—from different vineyards in different zones of the banks of the Bibei River. It’s medium-bodied with fine-gained tannins and has a gentle mouthfeel. It’s an improvement over the previous vintage. Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 96 points “This wine that changed the perception of Galician reds in 2010, and the 2021 As Caborcas is lighter and more aromatic, reflecting a more Atlantic but challenging year when they had to work hard to deliver this beauty. The vines are over 80 years of age and are a mixture of varieties planted on poor granite soils in terraces overlooking the Bibei River. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in small stainless steel and oak vats and matured in 1,500- and 2,000-liter foudres for 15 months. This is the more serious of the 2021 reds; it is nuanced, elegant and insinuating and less aromatic than the others. It’s textured and elegant, fine-boned and fine-grained, with a sense of great harmony. 1,950 bottles were filled in July 2023.”

It has 13% alcohol and a pH of 3.44, with a lemony character that transmits freshness. It is citrusy and floral, with a refinement and lightness I didn’t see in the other whites. It’s seamless, silky, harmonious and textured, with a neat combination of volume and tenderness, a tactile wine with a much more refined side, fine-grained and elegant. 968 bottles produced. It fermented in stainless steel and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 500- and 600-liter French oak barrels for 18 months. This has very good ripeness but without excess and is a little closed and austere. It has the cold sensation of the granite. It’s very balanced and should develop nicely in bottle. This is one step up from the previous years. 3,872 bottles were filled in July 2020.”

The grapes from the vines at 800 meters in altitude fermented in stainless steel and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in 500- and 600-liter French oak barrels for 18 months. It feels like this wine behaves better in less warm years, when it ripens slowly. This is tasty and effervescent, with grainy granite tannins. 2,693 bottles were filled in July 2021.”
Telmo Rodriguez ‘Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra’ Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon 2018 750ml $59 special, 18 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 96 points “The 2018 Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra was produced with Garnacha from 80+-year-old vines on slopes rich in schist. It fermented in oak and stainless steel vats and amphorae with indigenous yeasts and matured in 500- and 600-liter French oak barrels for 24 months. Against all odds, because the wines from schist tend to be more closed than the ones from granite, the wine is super expressive and open, aromatic, floral and perfumed. It’s powerful and elegant, with structure and freshness, with balance and all the ingredients for a great development in bottle. This has to be the finest vintage of this wine since the initial 1999. Bravo! 3,906 bottles were filled in July 2020.”

Telmo Rodriguez ‘Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra’ Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon 2019 750ml $59 special, 16 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 96 points “The 2019 Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra comes from a very dry year with low yields, produced with Garnacha from 80+-year-old vines on slopes rich in schist at 800 to 1,000 meters in altitude. It fermented in oak and stainless steel vats and amphorae with indigenous yeasts and matured in 500- and 600-liter oak barrels of different origins for 24 months. This is very expressive; the slate soils seem to take heat quite well. It is floral and open, rich and with the grainy tannins that reminded me of the dusty schist. This is supple and tasty. 3,295 bottles were filled in July 2021.”

Telmo Rodriguez – Ladeiras do Xil ‘LG Valbuxan’, Valdeorras 2020 750ml $49 special, 15 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 93 points “The second vintage of the red from Valdeorras is the 2020 Lg. After the wine spent 15 months in 1,500- and 2,000-liter oak foudres, 9,165 bottles were filled in June 2022.”

Telmo Rodriguez – Ladeiras do Xil ‘As Caborcas’, Valdeorras 2021 750ml $96 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 96 points “This wine that changed the perception of Galician reds in 2010, and the 2021 As Caborcas is lighter and more aromatic, reflecting a more Atlantic but challenging year when they had to work hard to deliver this beauty.

Telmo Rodriguez – Ladeiras do Xil ‘Falcoeira’ Branco, Valdeorras 2021 750ml $133 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 95+ points “They started picking the grapes for the 2021 Falcoeira Branco on the last day of August, slightly earlier, and the field blend of white grapes (Godello, Doña Branca, Palomino and others) in the lower terraces of this historical place fermented in 225- and 500-liter barrels where it matured for 10 months. It was bottled in July 2023.”

Telmo Rodriguez ‘Pegaso Granito’ Vino Tinto de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon 2018 750ml $54.50 special, 16 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 95 points “It’s always interesting to compare the 2018 Pegaso Granito from the one produced with grapes from schist-rich soils, especially when they are from one of the finest vintages in Gredos in recent times.

Telmo Rodriguez ‘Pegaso Granito’ Vino Tinto de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon 2019 750ml $64.50 special, 8 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 94 points “The 2019 Pegaso Granito ripened thoroughly and has 15% alcohol, a little higher than the Pegaso Pizarra from slate soils, but keeping a low pH of 3.35.

California Sauvignon Blanc
California has made a name for itself in Sauvignon Blanc, though not via a very direct route. Plantings in the US date back at least to the 1880s, when Bordeaux inspired wineries to create restrained or dessert-style examples. The grape made another splash in the 1960s when Robert Mondavi named it “Fumé Blanc” in reference to the oak aging and the classic flint notes in Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley region of Pouilly-Fumé.
Today, it’s more common to find fresh and zippy versions (sans the new oak and sugar). Our picks on offer include some of our best QPRs for your table!

Renaissance Vineyard & Winery Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc, North Yuba 1989 375ml $11.90 special, 24+ half-bottles in stock now
Winery Note “Medium to dark amber-brown in color, this wine smells of burnt orange peel, a hint of bergamot, and cafe au lait. In the mouth dark burnt honey, cafe au lait, and a touch of even darker molasses flavors have a wonderful toasted grain quality to them that makes this wine seem almost more savory than sweet despite its significant sugar levels. Really compelling and interesting, with plenty of acidity to keep this wine lively after all this time. A phenomenal flavor experience. Moderately sweet.”

Arnot-Roberts Randle Hill Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, Yorkville Highlands 2024 750ml $36 special, 11 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “The gnarled old Sauvignon Blanc vines at the Randle Hill Vineyard were planted in 1982 in the Yorkville Highlands of Mendocino County. This rugged and remote site is farmed organically on a steep hillside of eroding shale, situated at 1,100’ elevation, where it enjoys warm days and cool nights. We love the mineral driven Sauvignon Blancs of France’s Loire Valley and have long hoped we would find a site here in California that could grow Sauvignon Blanc that leaned in that direction. We knew that vine age, clone, elevation, soil, and farming all had to be right for us to achieve that expression and this vineyard met all the criteria. The resulting wine exhibits mineral and saline flavors balanced with a hint of herbaceous and floral aromatics.”

(Continuum) Sentium Sauvignon Blanc, Mendocino 2023 750ml $79 special, 9 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 94 points “I loved the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc, a vibrant white offering ample Meyer lemon, honeyed flowers, and crushed stone-driven aromatics, as well as a crisp, clean sense of reduction. Medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, and elegant, it might be my favorite of the lineup. I love it today, yet it should have at least a decade of longevity, if not more.”
