Winery note
“Vibrant and golden in color, the 2014 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay offers up a complex bouquet of citrus blossoms, cardamom, and hazelnuts. As the wine spends time in the glass, aromas of citrus zest, spiced apple pie and confectionery notes unfold. On the palate the wine is pure with volume and precision, exhibiting Meyer lemon, stone fruits, and allspice with seamlessly integrated acidity the leads to a lusciously long and creamy finish.”

WASHINGTON
Latta Northridge Vineyard Malbec, Wahluke Slope 2011 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Wine Advocate 95 points
“Rock star stuff, especially in the vintage, the 2011 Malbec Northridge Vineyard gives up classic blackberry, pepper and assorted flowers and spice aromas and flavors to go with a full-bodied, seamless and elegant feel on the palate. Gaining more than one “awesome” in my notes, this should not be missed by any Washington State wine lover. This is a new project by Charles Smith winemaker Andrew Latta, and the wines are awesome across the board. This is one bandwagon to get on. His 2011 Malbec is the best example of the variety I’ve tasted from Washington.”
CALIFORNIA
Dominus Estate Napanook, Napa Valley 2012 750ML ($79.95) $59 special
James Suckling 95 points
“This is shows wonderful aromas of tar, asphalt, wet earth and pure cherries. Full-bodied yet soft and velvety with a fine, dusty texture to the finish. Fresh and austere. Dignified. This has no cabernet franc in it this year; normally there is 3% to 5%. It’s 95% cabernet sauvignon and 5% petit verdot. Drink or hold.”
FRANCE-ROSE
Chateau Pradeaux Bandol Rose 2015 750ML ($34.95) $28 special
Importer note
“The Bandol Rosé from Pradeaux is perhaps the most serious wine of the entire category. Robust, rich, and complex with an ability to age gracefully, this wine is composed of 70% Mourvèdre and 30% Cinsault, taking its slight orange tint from the Mourvedre cépage.”
FRANCE-BEAUJOLAIS
Yvon Metras Fleurie 2014 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Yvon Metras Fleurie Le Printemps 2014 750ML ($69.95)
$59 special
Yvon Metras Moulin-a-Vent 2014 750ML ($69.95)
$59 special
VinopolNote:
The notoriously, face-palmingly hard-to-find wines of Yvon Metras have earned a distinct following in the United States after almost a decade of virtual obscurity. A disciple of the legendary ‘natural wine’ pioneer Jules Chauvet and peer of Marcel Lapierre, Métras is considered the honorary fifth member of ‘the Gang of Four’, Kermit Lynch’s stable of Beaujolais producers who sought a cleaner, terroir-driven, holistic approach to winemaking.  His Fleurie is unceasingly aromatic with heaping minerals and considerable density, while the Moulin-a-Vent tends to present more muscle, dark berry fruits, and spice.
Chateau Thivin Cote de Brouilly 2014 750ML ($27.95) $21.90 special
Wine Advocate 89-91 points
“The 2014 Côte de Brouilly has a focused bouquet and is more serious than the Brouilly, with fresh strawberry mixed with raspberry coulis and cold stone scents. The palate is medium-bodied, supple and fleshy on the entry. The acidity here is beautifully judged with a svelte and quite sensual finish. This is a fine Côte de Brouilly, not complex, but nicely detailed and overflowing with freshness.”
FRANCE-BURGUNDY
Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Meursault Clos du Cromin 2011 750ML ($69.95) $49 special
Antonio Galloni–Vinous 92 points
“The 2011 Meursault Clos du Cromin is all about freshness, energy and vibrancy. Lemon, white flowers, jasmine and a hint of spice are supported by clean veins of minerality that add tension and brightness. With time in the glass, the wine becomes increasingly more focused, vibrant and persistent. I very much like the sense of energy here.” AG

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Les Caillerets, Volnay Premier Cru 2011 750ML ($79.95) $59 special
Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Les Caillerets, Volnay Premier Cru 2011 1.5L ($179.95)
$119 special
Antonio Galloni–Vinous 93 points
“The 2011 Volnay Caillerets is one of the most explosive wines in this range. Black cherries, plums, licorice, smoke and tar literally jump from the glass. The 2011 is round and voluptuous on the palate, yet also backed up by considerable structure. Hints of cloves, new leather and sweet tobacco add the final layers of nuance. In 2011 there are just three barrels of Caillerets, one of which is new, a slightly higher ratio than is typically the case.” AG

$69 special
Vinopolnote:
From a hilltop vineyard, this cuvee is entirely destemmed and offers high-toned aromatics and an enduring finish. Tasted here in the past week – in one word: purity.Frederic Magnien Chambertin-Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($319.95) $249 special
Stephen Tanzer 92-94 points
“(the parcel Magnien works with stretches from the bottom to the top of the cru; a substantial percentage of millerandage resulted in a very low yield and low pH in 2011, according to Magnien): Good bright, full red. Aromas of black cherry, raspberry, licorice, menthol and flowers. Highly concentrated and well delineated, with superb energy and lift to the flavors of red berries, spices and dark chocolate. Very rocky and precise on the finish, with firm tannins currently shutting down the fruit. Still an infant but shows outstanding potential.”

This is the only listing in the USA today!

Frederic Magnien Chambertin-Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($319.95) $279 special
Stephen Tanzer 94 points
“Medium red. Alluring perfume of raspberry, rose petal and high-toned cardamom spice. Broad, rich, dense and fine-grained yet somehow weightless, displaying powerful mineral support to its red berry and exotic spice flavors. The bracing, resounding finish features pronounced soil-driven salinity and a hint of youthful bitterness. Magnien predicts that this will be the last of his 2012 négociant wines to reach full maturity. Superb Burgundy.”

Frederic Magnien Chambertin-Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2013 750ML ($319.95) $279 special
Stephen Tanzer 92-95 points
“Bright, full red. Sexy high-pitched perfume combines red cherry, blood orange, lavender, red rose and spearmint. Juicy but youthfully imploded, showing more aromatic complexity than pliancy of texture today. Crunchy flavors of crushed red fruits, spices and licorice are lifted by fresh rose. A very long, scented wine of great finesse, but in need of a decade of patience to fully express itself.”

FRANCE-LOIREDomaine de la Petite Mairie Bourgueil Cuvee des Galluches 2013 750ML ($19.95) $16 special
Importer note
“The cuvée “Les Galluches” is made from a blend of grapes harvested from different parcels, a majority of which are of sandy composition thus yielding a wine of intense aromatics and subtle tannins. This wine is aged in oak “foudres” or large casks for 4 to 6 months, then racked into cement cuves for several more months before bottling.  The “Galluches” is a consistently impressive wine that is sophisticated in it subtle complexity and offers impeccable value.”

FRANCE-RHONEDomaine Jamet Cotes du Rhone 2014 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Josh Raynolds – Vinous 91 points
“(sourced from a schist site completely surrounded by Côte-Rôtie vineyards in the Côte Brune): Opaque ruby. Fresh black raspberry, cassis, olive and peppery spices on the fragrant nose. Lively and expansive in the mouth, offering juicy, spice-tinged dark berry flavors and a touch of candied violet. Displays an attractive marriage of richness and finesse, with sneaky tannins adding shape to a very long, penetrating finish. This suave wine could easily pass for a Côte-Rôtie.”

FRANCE-JURAJacques Puffeney Arbois Vin Jaune 2008 620ML ($89.95) $79 special, 11 620ML bottles available
Wine Advocate 94-97 points
“The 2007 was sold out so I didn’t get to taste it, but I’ve drunk it and it’s phenomenal and highly recommended. The 2008 Arbois Vin Jaune was still unbottled. What I tasted, it had lots of acidity. For Jacques Puffeney, 2008 was a very good vintage for whites (not as good for reds), and he feels the Vin Jaune is developing very well. The caves for the Vin Jaune are very dry, because the wine needs some evolution, and if it has humidity the development is not as good. The palate is medium to full-bodied with glycerin and volume, but the acidity cuts through the fat and makes the wine intense, full and sharp. 6,000 bottles will be produced.  Sometimes the Vin Jaune is aged for a long time. I tasted a 2003 that was still in barrel and was going to be bottled in one week after almost 12 years aging under flor, but the wine was getting evaporated and the barrel was almost half empty. The 1986 was also aged for a very long time. It has intense aromas of orange peel, tobacco, broth and smoke, with some nuts. The palate is opulent but it feels like the acidity is getting concentrated and the wine is very fresh and does not feel either old nor warm. It’s 15% alcohol and has notes of malt whiskey, with lots of iodine. This is going to be a very legendary Vin Jaune to age for 20-30 years, but there will be no more than 300 bottles of it!

ITALY-TUSCANYTenuta Col d’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 1.5L ($149.95) $99 special
Wine Spectator 93 points
“This smells like beef bouillon, picking up pure cherry and plum fruit on the palate, along with savory elements. Lean, with well-integrated tannins and a long, meaty finish of tobacco and earth. Best from 2018 through 2030.”
Antonio Galloni 92 points “Col d’Orcia’s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vendemmia is all finesse. Sweet floral and spiced notes open up in the glass, followed by veins of bright red stone fruits. Hints of orange peel and white pepper add an attractive, beguiling upper register of aromatics. The 2010 is still a bit raw and much less expressive than it was from barrel, but it is promising.”

ITALY-PIEDMONTVietti Tre Vigne, Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2014 750ML ($21.95) $16 special
Winery Notes
–“Ruby purple color with ripe red cherry aromas with hints of mineral and vanilla. A dry, medium bodied red wine with refreshing acidity (making it perfect to pair with food) and soft tannins, the Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne is well balanced with good integration of oak, good complexity and a finish of more red cherries.”

Produttori del Barbaresco Asili, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2011 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Antonio Galloni 95 points
“The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is one of the most refined wines in this range. Here the fruit shows more distinctly red-toned notes, with plenty of Asili creaminess, silkiness and overall texture, not to mention considerable density. There is plenty of Asili sexiness and radiance, but at the same time, there is also more tannin and overall brightness than I expected. Not that those things are bad. Far from it. I imagine the 2011 will reward readers with many years of exceptional drinking. This is one of the most polished wines in the range of 2011 Riservas. Then again, it’s Asili.” AG

Weingut Franz Kunstler Hochheimer Holle Riesling Spatlese Trocken, Rheingau 2002 750ML ($69.95)
$59 special
Vinous Media  “Pear, flowers and chalk dust in the nose. Brothy and rich in a Chablis-like expression of chalky terroir, laden with herbs and flowers. The palate feel is so soft and creamy one could almost believe part of the wine had gone through malolactic fermentation. Subtly herbal, milky, pearsy finish. The grapes for this were picked in late October.”AUSTRIA

Weinlaubenhof Alois Kracher Cuvee Beerenauslese, Neusiedlersee 2011 375ML ($39.95) $18 special
Joel B Payne – Vinous 90 points
“($34) Spicy bouquet of with papaya, pineapple, lemon grass and subdued botrytis. The sweet tropical fruits and creamy texture are nicely interwoven, and there’s just enough acidity to keep this Beerenauslese fresh. This blend of Welschriesling fermented in large casks and Chardonnay in barrel finishes with appealing length. Traditionally this has been Kracher’s best seller, and a regular item in Austrian Airlines business class since 1995.”
Wine Enthusiast 91 points “($34) A sheen of lifted lemon oil surrounds this BA, whose palate oscillates between feisty, candied lemon peel and more hazy notions of passion fruit. There is something elixir-like about its immense precision and perfect balance.”

SPAINBodegas Marco Abella Mas Mallola, Priorat DOCa 2008 750ML ($49.95) $29 special
Wine Enthusiast 92 points
“Dry, schisty aromas of cherry and spice are reserved and elevated. This is a bright wine with juicy acidity and complexity. Flavors of baked berry fruits are minerally at the core, while the finish is smooth, mature and steady, with lasting purity. Drink through 2019.”
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “(63% garnacha, 20% carinena, 11% cabernet sauvignon and 6% merlot; aged for 20 months in French oak): Deep ruby. Lively aromas of fresh red berries, potpourri, vanilla and pipe tobacco, with a hint of incense gaining strength with air. Fresh and lively on the palate, offering intense raspberry and cherry-vanilla flavors and a zesty blood orange note. Juicy, appealingly sweet and seamless, boasting very good energy and thrust to its smooth, gently tannic finish.”

Aires de Vendimia Mencia de Valtuille, Bierzo 2012 750ML ($44.95) $38 special
Wine Advocate 91+ points
“I was quite impressed with the 2012 Aires de Vendimia, especially for a warm vintage. It’s old-vine Mencía which fermented with 50% full clusters in an oak vat with indigenous yeasts and aged for 11 months in contact with the lees in 225- and 300-liter oak barrels. It’s still a bit marked by the oak, clean, good-quality oak, with faint notes of vanilla and other spices over a core of violets, red cherries and blueberries; it is quite harmonious and aromatic but with certain restraint. The palate is medium-bodied, supple with juicy fruit, focused, with good freshness developing a licorice final note.”Yzaguirre Vermouth Blanc, Catalonia NV 1L ($17.95) $14 special

Leonetti Cellar Reserve, Walla Walla Valley 2010 750ML ($249.95) $219 pre-arrival special; 2 bottles available
Wine Advocate 100 points “Even better than the straight Cabernet Sauvignon, with additional richness and texture, yet without any added weight or heaviness, the perfect 2010 Reserve is comprised of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 9% Malbec that spent 22 months in new and used French oak. Inky purple in color and gorgeously rich and pure, it slowly gives up notions of smoked black currants, espresso, liquid flower, licorice and graphite that flow to a full-bodied, concentrated, plush and seamless 2010 that is perfectly balanced, has no hard edges and an incredible finish. It’s a monumental bottle of wine that will drink well at an early age, yet age effortlessly for two decades or more. Drink now-2030.”

“The 2008 Block 1 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new French oak for 30 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it reluctantly gives up a brooding bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, creme de cassis, black currants, floral notes, and earthy minerals. Dense, layered, and long, it will evolve gracefully for 6-8 years and will see in its 20th birthday in fine form.”

Sheridan Vineyard Block One Cabernet Sauvignon , Yakima Valley 2010 750ML ($149.95) $125 pre-arrival special; 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 98 points
“The incredible 2010 Block 1 comes from estate vineyards and is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 28 months in French oak. Massively concentrated, with a slightly backwards, brooding profile, it offers up an ultra-rich, meaty bouquet of smoked black currants, sage brush, mint, dry-aged beef and brown spice that gives way to a full-bodied, muscular 2010 that has a serious amount of fruit and texture that’s cut by juicy, lively acidity and ripe tannin. Disjointed right on opening, it improved beautifully over the evening (and consecutive days) and should be decanted for an hour or more if drinking anytime soon. It’s a unique, thrilling effort that will benefit from short-term cellaring and drink well for 15-20 years. Drink 2016-2030.”Sheridan Cabernet Reserve 2007 750ML ($199.95) $179 pre-arrival special; 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 98 points
“The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve had 140+ days of hang-time with its canopy with picking extended through November 3. Purple/black, opaque, and brooding, it delivers an other-worldly bouquet of wood smoke, lavender, licorice, espresso, Asian spices, incense, a hint of balsamic, blackberry, and black currant. Dense, rich, loaded, and totally pleasure-bent, this phenomenal effort is remarkably fresh and symmetrical despite its size and power. It will easily see its 30th birthday but that is a conservative estimate.”

Chateau du Grand Bos, Graves 2010 750ML ($34.95) $26 pre-arrival special
Importer’s note:
15 hectares are planted to red grapes in the proportions: 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Each variety and parcel is vinified separately. Maceration lasts at least a month including a pre-fermentation “cold soak” which occurs before the temperature is raised in the tanks and the yeasts begin working. M. Vincent prefers to use cultivated yeasts for his alcoholic fermentations, a different one for each varietal. By contrast, the malolactic fermentations are carried out with only indigenous yeasts. An initial assemblage is made after the different cuvees have finished their malolactic fermentations. The wine is then aged in oak barrels procured from the Allier which range between 1/2 and 1/3 new, depending on the vintage. The wine matures for 12 to 18 months. A final blend is then made from a selection of barrels.

Radio-Coteau ‘Timbervine’ Syrah, Russian River Valley 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 93-95 points
“Bright, floral and energetic, the 2013 Syrah Timbervine is shaping up to be a real jewel of wine. Beams of supporting acidity and tannin give the Timbervine much of its considerable vibrancy. Sweet floral and savory notes add lift on the precise, striking finish. Readers who appreciate finely-sculpted, mineral-driven Syrahs will flip out over the Timbervine.”

Radio-Coteau ‘La Neblina’ Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Grapelive.com 92 points
“Eric Sussman’s Radio-Coteau 2013 La Neblina is a juicy and expressive Pinot Noir with vibrant flavors and rich detail, exuberant in it’s youth, but with solid underlying balance. The 2013 feels fuller and riper than the last few vintages with more body, though you’d expect that from a more normal growing year and the tannin is super plush and satiny making for a lush and forward wine. I expect this wine with mellow a bit in bottle and age remarkably well, it certainly will focus out in with some time, even though it will thrill and excite in it’s youth. The palate shows layers of fruit with black cherry leading the way with plum, sweet raspberry and pomegranate adding to the whole along with subtle mineral, spice and polished acidity. The nose is fruity, but with pretty floral tones and color is a vivid ruby in this native yeast fermented and very naturally crafted Pinot Noir. Elements of earth, cinnamon, cedar and red peach flesh come out with air adding complexity, so I believe there is more potential rewards to come in this Radio-Coteau, with patience this wine should reach the next level. While you allow this one to gain in the cellar, be sure to check out the County Line wines also by Sussman, they are a stunning value, especially the Pinot, Rose and Zinfandel offerings and don’t forget the Radio-Coteau Syrah, another killer wine. The upfront La Neblina Pinot Noir can be enjoyed now, it is very joyous and giving, but more pleasure awaits, best from 2018 to 2024.”

BURGUNDYMongeard-Mugneret Bourgogne Blanc 2014 750ML ($29.95) $24 pre-arrival special
Winery notes:
Average vine age of 25 years; Jurassic soil with broken stones on limeston-clay soils. Hand-sorted and raised in stainless steel. With a beautiful golden colour and a clean, open nose, “Bourgogne Chardonnay” has an astonishingly wide range of aromas. The Chardonnay produces a firm, full wine, elegant, supple and mellow, full-bodied, rich and lingers long on the palate.

Alain Gras Saint-Romain Blanc, Cote de Beaune 2014 750ML ($49.95) $37 pre-arrival special
Vinopolnote:
From vines averaging 40 years old planted in clay and limestone soils.Louis Jadot Criots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Cote de Beaune 2012 750ML ($349.95) $279 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 93-95 points
“The 2012 Criots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru is not a regular fixture within the Jadot portfolio. It has a feisty bouquet, unruly compared to the Chevalier, but a lot of fun. The palate has a slightly viscous opening with touches of orange peel, marmalade and spice, the latter defining the finish that demonstrates superb weight and presence. It is not as classy as the Chevalier, but it demonstrates more tension and poise, certainly more complexity than the Batard. This will simply be a delightful Criots that deserves bottle age to demonstrate what it can really do.”

Louis Jadot Griottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits  2012 750ML ($279.95) $225 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 93-95 points
“The 2012 Griotte-Chambertin is marvelous. A striking, nuanced bouquet melds into sweet red cherries, mint and spices in a wine of pure sensuality and finesse. This is the most feminine and aromatically lifted of the six Gevrey Grand Crus at Jadot. The wine’s mid-weight structure suggests it will be ready to drink sooner than some of the other Grand Crus in the range.”Domaine Matrot En Creot, Saint-Aubin Premier Cru  2014 ($39.95) $33 pre-arrival special
Burghound 89 points
“This is markedly cooler and more elegant with its pretty nose of high-toned pomegranate, cherry and cranberry scents. There is a lovely minerality to the racy, intense and beautifully delineated lighter weight though not dilute flavors that possess an attractive saline character on the clean, polished and dry-in-the-best-sense finale. This refined effort could easily be enjoyed young.”

Here we are in the presence of the most extensive 1er cru of the Beaune appellation (around 31.5 ha). This high-quality red wine with its deep coloration and  delicate aromas is mouth-filling, generous and silky and has always been one of Beaune’s most highly thought-of crus.

PORTFonseca Vintage Port, Portugal 2009 375ML ($49.95)

$39 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 95 points
“This is gorgeously vibrant and grapey, with good cut to the luscious dark fruit and cedar flavors that are flanked by zesty acidity and tannins. A touch brooding midpalate, with a minerally rush and a finish of slate and iron. Best from 2016 through 2036.”
Wine Advocate 94 points “The Fonseca 2009 has a very sweet, typically opulent bouquet of black plum, blackberry, chimney soot and a touch of pencil shavings that is very complex and alluring. The palate is full-bodied with powerful ripe blackberry, allspice, clove and balsamic notes, a roiling, powerful, assertive Fonseca with a sweet, dark chocolate-tinged finish that grips the mouth, but it needs two decades to mellow and demonstrate the finesse to balance the intensity.”

Taylor Fladgate Very Old Single Harvest Port 1967 750ML ($299.95) $249 pre-arrival special

Taylor Fladgate Very Old Single Harvest Port 1966 750ML ($319.95) $269 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 1966 Single Harvest Tawny Port (i.e., a Colheita) is a traditional blend, aged in French and American oak. It comes in at 183 grams per liter of residual sugar. Surprisingly rich and fresh, this seems younger than its age. The complexity here is not quite as great as with some and the nuances of molasses and the like are controlled. On the other side of the coin, it has a rather sensual texture, finishing with a sugary burst. Underneath is the expected acidity and a bit of pop. Overall, it is rather seductive and quite delicious. Note that this will be released in January 2016, part of Taylor’s old Colheita releases.”
Croft Vintage Port, Portugal 2011 750ML ($99.95) $69 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 97 points
“Effusively juicy, rich and concentrated, showing plenty of snap to the crisp and well-spiced flavors of wild berry, dark currant and plum tart. Orange-infused chocolate notes linger on the exotic, mocha-filled finish. Best from 2020 through 2045”
