Poised for Complexity: Markus Molitor 2019 Rieslings 1-11-26

All of Molitor’s 2019 vintage wines on sale now!

Few estates demonstrate the transformative power of time like Markus Molitor. His Rieslings begin life razor-sharp and intricately detailed—built on purity, tension, and absolute precision—but it’s with a few years of rest that they start revealing their deeper story. Now approaching six years from harvest, the 2019s are entering that exciting phase where youthful brilliance gives way to developing nuance, added texture, and richer layers of aroma and flavor.

The shift is subtle at first, then undeniable. Fruit that once felt purely citrus-driven now shades into candied lime, yellow stone fruit, and hints of dried orchard blossom. The slate-driven minerality grows more expressive and resonant, bringing cool herbal tones, gentle smokiness, and a whisper of honeyed depth without losing the vibrancy that defines Mosel Riesling. Structure remains firm and energetic, but the edges have rounded, allowing the wines to feel more harmonious, more complete, and more emotionally compelling in the glass.

We’re highlighting an exceptional offering of 2019 Markus Molitor wines, a vintage now stepping confidently into its early maturity. This is the moment when architecture becomes beauty—when you can finally taste the intention behind the farming, the precision of the cellar work, and the patience for which Molitor is so well known. These bottles are already thrilling to drink, yet they still promise further evolution, making them ideal both for enjoying now and for thoughtful cellaring.

For collectors and enthusiasts alike, the 2019s offer a chance to experience Molitor in motion—neither youthful nor fully evolved, but beautifully poised between energy and complexity. It’s a rare window of expression, and one well worth exploring while these wines remain available.

Capsule Color:
White capsule wines are made in a dry tasting style, with imperceptible residual sugar and lean mineral intensity. Green capsules reflect what Germans refer to as a ‘feinherb’ or just slightly off-dry style, usually with 15-20g or more of residual sugar per liter. This is probably the most classical of all Mosel wine styles, where the sugar and acid interplay is so delicate and balanced that the overall taste is dizzyingly complex.  Lastly, gold capsules indicate a truly off-dry and fruity style of Riesling with lush concentration and a fruit spectrum that spans all the way from orchard to tropical. All three of these styles can age beautifully for many years.

Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (White Capsule) is highly refined and almost floral in its precisely slatey and flinty finesse that integrates very fine Riesling aromas. Everything seems to be in a young style for this wine that is pure, structured and dry, with a lovely mix of tannins, crystalline slate acidity and lingering salinity. This is not really fragile like, say, a Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr; instead, it’s filigreed and has strong bones. Fine tannins structure the fresh and lemony yet rich finish. A serious terroir wine with just 10.5% alcohol. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett (Green Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $28, that’s $26.60 at 5% off and $25.20 at 10% off, 16 bottles in stock now

“Molitor’s 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (Green Capsule) opens pure and flinty on the deep and complex, very intense yet bright and fascinating, seductive and terroir-driven nose. Lush and round on the palate yet with salty-piquant and vibrantly fresh acidity, this is a structured, even somewhat tannic Kabinett to cellar for at least 2-3 more years. Very long and endlessly salty. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett Trocken (White Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $26, that’s $24.70 at 5% off and $23.40 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 92 points
“The 2019 Graacher Domprobst Kabinett (White Capsule) is deep, elegant and flinty on the perfectly ripe and typically Graach-fruity nose with its lush and ripe stone-fruit aromas. Water matters in a dry year such as 2019, and the Domprobst has lots of it. Dense, piquant and mouth-filling on the palate, the wine reveals an edgy slate structure that will soften with bottle age. I recommend cellaring the wine for at least another year. The finish is vibrantly fresh and salty yet still tannic. 10.5% alcohol. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett Feinherb (Green Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $26.50, that’s $25.18 at 5% off and $23.85 at 10% off, 18 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2019 Zeltinger Himmelreich Kabinett (Green Capsule) is beautifully clear, fresh and flinty on the complex and crunchy, slate-driven bouquet of bright fruits and crushed stones. On the palate, this is a mouth-filling, juicy, vibrantly fresh and crisp, stimulating and piquant Kabinett with gorgeous slatey grip and a salivating finish. A fabulous Kabinett from 40+-year-old Riesling vines. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Bernkasteler Lay Domprobst Riesling Auslese ** WK 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $51.90, that’s $49.30 at 5% off and $46.71 at 10% off, 11 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 95+ points “The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. This is a tightly structured, very digestible and still edgy Auslese that needs another 5-6 years or so to settle and shine. This 2019 is enormously salty on the finish and highly promising. Bottled in September last year and tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese ** (Gold Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 95 points “The golden-yellow colored [wine] is intense yet very clear and fresh with lemon juice aromas and dark-toned notes of crushed flint stone. Lush and refined on the vivacious and remarkably finessed palate, this is a light, round and fleshy, textured and mouth-filling Domprobst with very fine tannins, delicate mineral acidity and lingering salinity. Promising and with stimulating, crystalline grip but still far too young…”

Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** Trocken (White Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off,  $107.10 at 10% off,  and $101.15 at 15% off,  14 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 98+ points
“The 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (White Capsule) offers a deep, ripe and highly intense yet refined and noble bouquet of ripe (tropical) stone fruits such as mango, golden passion fruit and persimmon, finely crushed and flinty slate as well as iodine notes. Rich and intense yet highly refined and crystalline on the palate, with vibrant yet finessed acidity and lots of elegant or even subversive power, grip and tension, this is a highly elegant, multilayered and endlessly salty as well as frisky Sonnenuhr that delivers all the charm and complexity we may expect from this praised grand cru but rarely had in our glasses as perfectly as it comes here. This is a sustainable Sonnenuhr that I have rarely tasted with such a firm and serious structure and initial austerity. The wine has salt and tannic grip on the finish, but it has to be aged for another 8-10 years at least. One day this might be another giant from the Molitor category of “physical drinking.” Tasted from AP 52 20 in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** Trocken (White Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $128, that’s $121.60 at 5% off,  $115.20 at 10% off,  and $108.80 at 15% off,  9 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 98+ points
“The 2019 Zeltlinger Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (White Capsule) is deep, pure, fresh, fine and substantial on the nose that reveals rich and perfectly ripe (tropical) fruit intertwined with exciting flint notes of crushed slate and lemons. Full-bodied, rich and intense, with great ripeness and concentration yet also purity, finesse and lingering, crystalline acidity, the three-starred ZSU reveals a beautifully balanced yet highly complex palate with lots of power and concentration and generous, fully ripe fruit paired with vibrant mineral freshness and tension. This 2019 Sonnenuhr is another three-starred Molitor Riesling that has to be aged for at least a decade. Without any doubt, this is another stellar wine of the vintage in the Mosel and all of Germany, and it hasn’t yet reached its destination. Compared to the finessed and energetic Welhener, the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr is richer, more physical and powerful. Two different characters yet both fantastic Rieslings on their way to eternity. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese *** Feinherb (Green Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off,  $107.10 at 10% off,  and $101.15 at 15% off,  22 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 99 points
“The 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese *** (Green Capsule) opens enormously deep, intense and complex on the nose that immediately indicates the wine is in an exceptional class on its own. Only with lots of aeration does the wine become more and more pure and fresh and develop a flinty lemon note with the finest perfume. On the palate, this is a rich, round and complex, sweet, wide and mouth-filling, very generous, free and easy-flowing Himmelreich of exceptional finesse and beauty. The finish is so stimulating, salty, pure and crunchy in its slate character, whereas the crater dug by the piquancy is filled in by the perfectly ripe and healthy fruit with lush intensity. The 2019 Himmelreich Auslese *** is sensational and the finest I have ever tasted from Markus Molitor. Tasted from AP 1 20 in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese *** (Gold Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $119, that’s $113.05 at 5% off, $107.10 at 10% off,  and $101.15 at 15% off,  24 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97+ points
“The 2019 Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) is utterly intense as well as refined on the subtle, finely slatey and crunchy nose. Piquant and fresh on the first attack, this is a crystalline, finely grippy and lingering salty Auslese with great tension, finesse and terroir expression. This is an Auslese to keep for another 5-10 years. This is very precise and piquant and still grippy, but it will smoothen with time. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** (Gold Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $125, that’s $118.75 at 5% off, $112.50 at 10% off, and $106.25 at 15% off,  16 bottles in stock now

“The 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese *** (Golden Capsule) opens with an immediately attractive bouquet, with perfectly ripe peach aromas intermingled with very fine crunchy and flinty slate notes. Lush and intense yet weightless, with an enormously salty, finessed and elegant but also generously fruity palate lifted by crystalline and mouth-salivating acidity, this is a filigreed, transparent and immaculate Auslese of mind-blowing finesse and elegance and the sexiest expression of complexity. Tasted in May 2021.

Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese ** Trocken (White Capsule) 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $51.90, that’s $49.31 at 5% off and $46.71 at 10% off, 5 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 95+ points “The 2019 Kinheimer Hubertuslay Auslese ** (White Capsule) displays an intense yet remarkably refined slate and ripe-fruit aroma. Round, lush and piquant on the palate, with a crystalline and salty, very delicate yet vibrantly fresh acidity, this is a full-bodied, intense and complex, very long and textural Hubertuslay from finely weathered slate soils. The finish is long, fresh and round as well as grippy, salty and piquant. Still young and with fine tannins, the 2019 will benefit from bottle aging. Tasted in May 2021.”

Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ** (Gold Capsule)  2019 750ml Displayed Price: $69, that’s $65.55 at 5% off and $62.10 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 96 points “… exhibits a white-golden color along with a clear, bright, flinty and lemon-scented bouquet of ripe and healthy citrus fruits intertwined with finely crushed slate aromas. Mouth-filling, fresh and highly delicate on the palate, this is a finessed and stimulating Auslese with hidden intensity and complexity and currently firm phenolic grip with crystalline acidity and lingering salinity…”

Markus Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2019 750ml Displayed Price: $499, that’s $474.05 at 5% off and $449.10 at 10% off, 10 bottles in stock now

Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate 97 points
“The 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Trockenbeerenauslese is deep, intense and flinty on the nose that exhibits clear, ripe and concentrated fruit with very fine botrytis notes intertwined with aromas of crushed slate and candied lemon rind. Round and elegant on the seamless palate, this is a rich yet finessed and elegant, super tensioned and mineral TBA with electrifying acidity and a highly stimulating finish. There are not many TBAs around that are as digestible as this one, which is really extraordinary. 6.5% alcohol. Tasted in May 2021 (AP 29 20).”
