Burgundy 2009

“There’s a problem with the 2009 vintage in Burgundy.  It’s too attractive. So attractive that some UK merchants have already sold their allocations of the most sought-after wines. The good news, however, is that there are many delicious wines among the less famous producers and more humbly ranked vineyards. ” – Jancis Robinson

Historically, vintages on the “nines” have produced some memorable harvests—years like 1999, 1989, 1969, 1959 and 1949 were all heralded for their extraordinary taste. 2009 keeps this streak going, a beautifully ripe vintage that delivered stellar quality for both red and white wines.

Harvest well under way on a sunny day in Morey- Saint- Denis

The summer of 2009 began with a very different feel to it compared to its immediate predecessors. The weather was much warmer in 2009 in Burgundy, with considerably more sun than any other year in the previous six. April had been showery, with May warm and dry. It was a splendid summer; from the middle of May onwards the sun shone. Flowering at the beginning of June was rapid, setting the stage for generous yields.

No typhoons or roaring temperatures, no disease or rampant weather, everything ticked along very nicely. As it never can be, not all was totally perfect. Hail strikes the vineyards of Côte d’Or most years and 2009 was no exception.  There were May hailstorms scattered through the south, affecting Morey-Saint-Denis, the southern end of Gevrey-Chambertin, as well as the Mâconnais. Fine weather in June with occasional heat spikes turned much more variable in July with some heavy storms, giving rise to fears of mildew, but fortunately caused no real damage. By and large, winemakers could not have asked for better weather conditions throughout the whole season.

Obliging weather continued from mid-July onward, with vines looking good and the grapes healthy. August was glorious and the sun shone for the rest of the month and straight through to an early harvest. Starting towards the first week of September, by the 14th harvest was fully under way in most vineyards. September was warm with a drying north wind, preserving acidity and contributing to healthy fruit and very little need for sorting. Grapes were harvested under clear skies, as vintners picked swiftly to maintain the balance and acidity in their wines.

This is not a vintage of village highs and lows across the Côte d’Or, as only the few vineyards hit hard by hail saw a reduction in yields. The health of the grapes was exceptional, without a trace of the rot that so often threatens the vineyards of Burgundy. 2009 was a vintage that delivered both quality and quantity. With such healthy fruit, the rigor of selection was not an issue, as is so often the case. This shines through in wines with excellent fruit quality from both the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune.

Ripe, healthy, freshly picked Pinot Noir

Ripe, elegant and classic; 2009 is a lovely vintage. Most of the reds are rich, satiny and vibrant, with delicious red fruit; the whites juicy, aromatic, and approachable. These wines are made on their balance, as the best find a beautiful harmony of acidity, tannin, and concentration. Drinking lovely now, these wines have great ageing potential as well, living up to the high expectations set by the preceding “9” vintages with sumptuous, supple reds and luscious whites.

Brightness of fruit and clarity of flavor delivers a fragrant, classic vintage, with beauty and finesse that only Burgundy can provide. Burgundy lovers please enjoy the charming and fruity reds and whites provided here today.

Stock List – 2009 White Burgundy – In Stock Now

Blain- Gagnard Chassagne Moregeot 2009 ($79.95) $59 special 8 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91 points
“The 2009 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot shows the breadth of this site in its rich, generous fruit. Despite its size, the Morgeot retains gorgeous freshness and vivacity, although the style is very much one that emphasizes a soft, textured expression of fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2012+.”

Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne 2009 ($149.95) $119 special 7 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2009 Corton-Charlemagne shows gorgeous balance and overall harmony. The overt, forward fruit is nicely buttressed by the wine’s underlying minerality and crystalline purity. The 2009 is juicy and oily, but without being overwhelming. A clean, vibrant finish rounds things out nicely. The 2009 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Anticipated maturity: 2011- 2019.”

Vincent Dauvissat Chablis La Forest 2009 ($99.95) $59 special 3 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 93 points
“Pale yellow. Compelling aromas of warm stone, paraffin, anise, vanilla and toast are subtle rather than exuberant. Opulent on entry, then penetrating and tight in the middle, with remarkably complex flavors of lemon, licorice, chlorophyll, tarragon and dill. A large-scaled but wonderfully fine-grained premier cru with superb length. Leaves behind a scent of licorice in the retronasal passage. This will offer early accessibility, but I’d hold rather hold my bottles available for seven or eight years.”

Faiveley Chablis Les Clos 2009 ($99.95) $59 special 3 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 95 points
“Straw-yellow. Soil-driven aromas of flinty, petrolly minerality, oyster shell and menthol. Broad, silky and suave yet with terrific energy and sappiness to the flavors of lemon, lime and wet stone. Less detailed today than the Preuses, but the slowly building, palate-saturating finish has to be one of the longest of the vintage. This wine, too, shows its great site more than it does the very warm 2009 vintage. For Chablis connoisseurs.”

Faiveley Chablis Les Preuses 2009 ($89.95) $69 special 4 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 95 points
“Knockout nose combines lavender, white pepper, violet, menthol and crushed stone, along with a whiff of baked bread. Superripe and seamless yet with terrific cut to its sweet stone fruit and stony mineral flavors. The explosive saline, stony finish is almost painful today.  This will become even more minerally with a few years of bottle aging. A beauty, and even more impressive than a sample I tasted last year. A great example of Preuses that transcends the vintage, this wine spent a bit of time in barrique, then was kept in vat until it was bottled in January of this year.”

Faiveley Bienvenues Batard Montrachet 2009 ($269.95) $199 special 6 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 92 points
“Palish green-yellow. Crushed stone, lemon-lime, hazelnut and a whiff of leesy complexity on the explosive nose. Boasts terrific density and sucrosite but with excellent acid backbone and firm minerality providing lift and shape. Best today on the long finish, which features palate-staining red grapefruit and crushed stone flavors. These 50-year-old vines are planted in deep soil, but there’s a lot of minerality in the subsoil, notes Hervet. Offers superb potential, but the 2008 may be even better.”

Jadot Chevalier Montrachet 2009 ($399.95) $249 special 2 bottles available

Jadot Le Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 ($549.95) $449 special 4 bottles available
John Gilman 95+ points”The 2009 Jadot Montrachet (which hails from the Chassagne side of the vineyard, by the way) is also exceptional. The nose offers up a great and compelling mélange of apple, white peach, lemon, great minerality, floral tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and superbly structured, with a rock solid core of fruit, beautiful focus and balance, impeccable grip and a very long, racy and refined finish. A wonderful bottle of wine. 2020-2050′

Lafon Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru 2009 ($259.95) $219 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 92-94 points
“Aromatically, this is almost a hypothetical blend of the Genevrières and the Goutte d’Or but here there is even more intensity to the mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that evidence really lovely purity of expression on the explosive and driving finish. This is clearly a Charmes from the upper part of the vineyard as there is none of the borderline excessive generosity of the lower portion.”

Le Moine Puligny Montrachet Folatieres 2009 ($179.95) $139 special 1 bottle available
Burghound 91-93 points
“This is quite ripe for the appellation though there are no hints of surmaturité to the aromas of apricot, white peach, pear and wet stone notes that carry over to the rich if moderately austere flavors, all wrapped in a complex, long and impressively persistent finish. I very much like the overall sense of balance and harmony here.”

Domaine Leflaive Meursalt Le Dos D’Ane 2009 ($149.95) $119 special 12 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 90 points
“Pale yellow.  Expressive nose offers ripe peach and an exotic soft citrus quality.  Silky, dry and rich, with a distinctly honeyed ripeness.  The juicy finish is buttressed by dusty minerality but this broad wine could nonetheless use a bit more mid-palate cut.”

Leroy Aligote 2009 ($89.95) $59 special 24 bottles available

Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne 2009 ($119.95) $79 special 2 bottles available
Wine Spectator 93 points
“Candied apple and lemon flavors are highlighted by butter and grilled almond notes in this opulent white. Concentrated and creamy, with a hint of seashore that adds another dimension. The saturated finish echoes the butter and nut themes. Best from 2013 through 2025”

Montille Puligny Montrachet Caillerets 2009 ($189.95) $119 special 2 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“Not surprisingly, this offers a big step up in aromatic elegance with its aromas of dried acacia blossom, citrus rind, spice and wet stone where the latter element also characterizes the supple, round and intense medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent complexity and genuinely striking length. This very classy effort should age well over the medium-term.”

Christian Moreau Chablis Les Clos 2009 ($69.95) $59 special 4 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“Moderate wood influence that should integrate quickly still allows the white flower, spiced pear and citrus-infused aromas to shine. The rich, full and serious flavors possess excellent concentration as well as ample amounts of the hallmark minerality on the detailed, energetic and explosive finish.”

Christian Moreau Chablis Valmur 2009 ($64.95) $55 special 6 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“A less forthcoming but similar nose that is trimmed in discreet oak treatment marries into richer yet more detailed middle weight flavors that are admirably fresh and pure before culminating in a palate staining, balanced and driving finish of striking length, excellent purity and moderate austerity. This is a big and robust Valmur that should make for a really lovely wine in a few years.”

Christian Moreau Chablis Clos des Hospices 2009 ($89.95) $59 special 13 bottles available
Burghound 92-94 points
“This is quite similar to the regular cuvée save for the fact that the fruit component is slightly riper. Otherwise, there are the same rich, full-bodied and serious flavors that possess excellent mid-palate density and the same powerful, driving and persistent finish. This is a big yet not inelegant wine that should age well in the context of the vintage.”

Oliviere Leflaive Puligny Folatieres 2009 ($129.95) $95 special 6 bottles available
Burghound 91 points
“Here too there is a faint whisper of sulfur that I suspect will be successfully absorbed in due course. Otherwise there is good freshness and refinement to the supple and fleshy yet well-detailed mineral-inflected flavors that possess a clean, dry, focused and solidly persistent finale.”

Pousse d’Or Puligny Montrachet Caillerets 2009 ($189.95) $119 special 8 bottles available
Burghound 92 points
“A deft touch of wood frames lemon and moderately exotic fruit aromas that include peach, mango and pear. There is excellent richness to the full-bodied, dense and mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in a naturally sweet, sappy and generous finish. This delicious effort is blessed with plenty of dry extract and while not classic in character, it’s really quite attractive all the same”

Jacques Prieur Corton Charlemagne 2009 ($299.95) $219 special 6 bottles available
Burghound 93-95 points
“In contrast to the expressiveness of many of the prior wines, this is closed to the point of being aromatically mute and even aggressive swirling coaxes very little from the nose. There is however simply superb power, detail, energy and complexity to the almost painfully intense flavors that culminate in a strikingly explosive and lengthy finish. This is most impressive and should also age extremely well.”

Roche de Bellene Corton Charlemagne 2009 ($199.95) $159 special 12 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 92-94 points
“Good bright yellow. Pure, perfumed aromas of lime, pineapple, spearmint and crushed rock. Juicy, steely and dense, with penetrating citrus and mineral flavors complicated by a saline quality that contributes to the wine’s savory, tactile mouth feel. Very dense, clean, precise and persistent wine that avoids austerity thanks to its touch of sweetness. Potel picked vines on the Pernand side on September 26, and also bought must from a parcel in Aloxe.”

Stock List – 2009 Red Burgundy – In Stock Now

Chateau de la Tour Clos de Vougeot 2009 ($199.95) $119 special 20 bottles available
Burghound 94 points
“Visible but reasonably well-integrated wood sets off somber, very ripe and distinctly earthy dark berry fruit liqueur aromas. There is impressive richness to the powerful broad-shouldered flavors that brim with dry extract that does an excellent job of buffering the very firm tannins on the beautifully balanced, long and quite serious finish.”

Chevillon NSG Roncieres 2009 ($89.95) $63 special 3+ cases available
Stephen Tanzer 90-93 points
“Bright, dark red. Cooler aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, smoke and minerals. Juicy, tight and firmly built; sweet but not at all cooked. This pure, fruity wine shows very good energy from calcaire Finishes with fine-grained tannins and lovely lingering perfume. An excellent early showing for this wine.”

Chevillon NSG Vieilles Vignes 2009 ($69.95) $39 special 3 cases available
Burghound 87-89 points
“A discreet hint of wood sets off an equally expressive and also very fresh nose of animale infused red and dark berry fruit aromas. The rich, mouth coating and intense middle weight flavors are blessed with ample amounts of dry extract that confers a velvety palate impression on the mildly rustic and persistent finish. Solid quality here.”

Chezeaux Vosne Romanee 2009 ($59.95) $49 special 10 bottles available

Chezeaux Nuits St Georges Aux Boudots 2009 ($69.95) $59 special 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 points “The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Aux Boudots is a rather delicate, understated wine laced with crushed berries, spices and flowers. Silky tannins frame the graceful, feminine finish. The open bouquet and accessible personality make the Boudots a touch more pleasurable today than the Chaumes, but both are gorgeous. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.”

Chezeaux Nuits St Georges Pruliers 2009 ($69.95) $59 special 7 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 points
“The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Pruliers bursts from the glass with an explosive, heady array of fruit. The wine reveals gorgeous persistence and fine overall harmony in a relatively accessible style for this house in 2009. A clean, pointed finish balances the fruit nicely. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.”

Chezeaux Nuits St Georges 2009 ($59.95) $49 special 11 bottles available
Wine Advocate 90 points
“The 2009 Nuits St. Georges is another terrific village wine. It shows fabulous vibrancy along with a crystalline purity that is totally beguiling. There is an element of slight firmness here that will require bottle age to soften, but this is a dazzling bottle that only needs time, and the tannins only serve to balance and preserve the integrity of the fruit. This is a gorgeous wine at the village level. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Comte Armand Pommard Clos Epeneaux 2009 ($179.95) $119 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 94 points
“This is also very fresh and bright with pure aromas of ripe red currant, warm earth, violets and subtle spice hints that are in keeping with the energetic, intense and admirably rich full-bodied flavors that envelope the palate with velvety sap on the beautifully balanced and impressively persistent finish. I very much like the sense of underlying tension because despite this being a big wine with plenty of concentration, the balance is impeccable and there is absolutely nothing ponderous about this complete effort that is well-structured but not so much so that it is in the “buy and forget” category. In short, buy it.”

Courcel Pommard Grand Clos des Epenots 2009 ($129.95) $88 special 19 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 92-95 points
“Deep ruby-red. Black fruits, violet, licorice and minerals on the nose. Dense and ripe but sappy and not at all thick, with its impressive volume cut by violet and spice. This boasts an impressive combination of sweetness, vibrancy and powerful underlying structure. Finishes with saline and chocolate notes and excellent lift. Offers superb potential.”

D’Ardhuy Cotes de Nuits Villages Clos des Langres 2009 ($44.95) $36 special 14 bottles available
Burghound 89 points ‘OUTSTANDING’
“A ripe but relatively high-toned nose offers up notes of raspberry, red currants and rose petals that precede supple, round and appealingly detailed flavors that evidence a subtle stoniness on the beautifully well-balanced and focused finish. This is less rustic than usual and really quite pretty. Worth a look.”

D’Ardhuy Corton Hautes Mourottes 2009 ($99.95) $69 special 7 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“A highly complex and brooding nose speaks of dark berries, warm earth, underbrush, stone and a hint of the sauvage that also characterizes the backwards, tight and mineral-driven large-bodied flavors. This is a big bad boy that is very, very firmly structured, indeed this is old school Corton in the best sense but also one that will require a minimum of 15 years of cellar time and 20 will not be out of the question. That said, the potential is exceptionally impressive.”

Pierre Damoy Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 ($249.95) $219 special 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2009 Chambertin is seriously intense in its deep, intricate layers of fruit. Floral overtones and hints of licorice add complexity as the wine opens up over time. The Chambertin finishes with substantial energy while maintaining tons of aromatic freshness and complexity. In short, it is a marvelous, complete wine with many years of brilliant drinking ahead. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.”

Pierre Damoy Chapelle- Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 ($219.95) $179 special 9 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 points
“The 2009 Chapelle-Chambertin floats across the palate with delicate red berries, flowers and sweet spices. Highly expressive, perfumed aromatics are woven throughout, while silky tannins convey an impression of pure sensuality. I especially like the way the Chapelle freshens up in the glass, always a good sign for the future. Of the 2009s I tasted from bottle, the Chapelle is the one wine that appears a bit reticent today. Pierre Damoy’s 2009s have turned out magnificently. Damoy remains one of my favorite under-the-radar growers. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Domaine et. Selection Bonnes Mares Elevage L. Ponsot 2009 1.5 LITER($799.95) $699 special 2 bottles available
We present a rare parcel of wine that rarely makes it much beyond the charming l’Hôtel de Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. The label, a “Domaine et Selection” getup, states plainly: “Elevé et mis en bouteille par LAURENT PONSOT, Morey-St-Denis, France, pour Domaine et Selection.” Translation: Made and bottled by Ponsot, in Morey, for Domaine et Selection.

Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Pertuisots 2009 ($64.95) $49 special 5 bottles available
Burghound 89-91 points
“A more refined and slightly riper nose reflect notes of cassis and dark berry fruit aromas that complement well the textured, supple and mouth coating flavors that possess good mid-palate concentration and enough dry extract to buffer well the firm tannic spine on the lingering finish. This is really quite pretty.

Dugat- Py Pommard Levriere VV 2009 ($229.95) $149 special 11 bottles available
Burghound 89-92 points
“A very ripe nose features nose of plum, cassis and warm earth aromas that lead to rich, full-bodied and very serious big-bodied flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration and a sappy, long and mouth coating finish. This is an exceptionally good villages.”

Dugat- Py Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru 2009 ($399.95) $299 special 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91-94 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru is a totally seamless, opulent wine that caresses the palate with layers of intense fruit. Full-bodied and rich to the finish, the 1er Cru is flat-out beautiful. This authoritative Burgundy will require patience, but it is striking in is harmony. In 2009 the 1er Cru is made from parcels in Les Corbeaux and Les Perrieres, as Dugat made the decision to vinify and age the Fontenys separately in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039.”

Dugat- Py Gevrey Chambertin Champeaux 2009 ($429.95) $289 special 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93-96 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux is one of the richest, darkest wines in this lineup. The Champeaux is a decidedly opulent wine that emphasizes sheer extract of fruit over aromatic complexity. There is plenty of underlying tannic material, but the tannins are totally buried by the sheer depth of the fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039.”

Dugat-Py Gevrey Chambertin Coeur de Roi 2009 ($249.95) $129 special 18 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91-93 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roi is a dark, inward wine. It shows serious weight and density in its dark fruit and sensual personality. A blast of smoke, licorice and menthol informs the long, beautifully delineated finish. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039.”

Dugat- Py Gevrey Chambertin Petite Chapelle 2009 ($429.95) $339 special 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92-95 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle opens with a sensual, exotic bouquet. Layers of crisp, nuanced fruit follow effortlessly as this seductive wine shows off its pedigree. Full-bodied and supple on the palate, the magnificent Petite Chapelle conquers all of the senses. The finish is breathtaking and eternal. This is a dazzling effort from Dugat-Py. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039.”

Dugat- Py Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2009 ($159.95) $99 special 18 bottles available
Wine Advocate 90 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes shows more freshness and elegance than the 2010. Ripe red berries, flowers and mint come together nicely in this supple, pliant Gevrey. Floral notes reappear on the finish, adding brightness and lift. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.”

Dugat-Py Gevrey Chambertin Evocelles 2009 ($249.95) $149 special 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 90-92 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles is deep, dark and sensual in its inviting layers of dark fruit, spices and menthol. Clean, mineral notes frame the long, intensely satisfying finish. This saw 100% new oak, but you would hardly know it based on the wine’s exceptional balance. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2049.”

Dugat- Py Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques 2009 ($429.95) $339 special 4 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93-96 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques hovers on the palate with an impeccable, ethereal expression of fruit. This is all grace and elegance, but it isn’t an obvious wine, rather it is a wine that slowly seduces the palate and intellect. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2049.”

Dugat- Py Vosne Romanee Vieilles Vignes 2009 ($249.95) $149 special 12 bottles available
Wine Advocate 90-93 points
“The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Vieilles Vignes is a sweet, sensual wine graced with exquisite depth in its spiced dark red fruit. Mineral notes add to a sense of thrust as the wine works its way through to the intense, textured finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Domaine Dujac Morey St Denis 1er Cru 2009 ($249.95) $149 special 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91 points
“The 2009 Morey St. Denis 1er Cru is a blend of three vineyards; mostly Ruchots with some Clos Sorbe and Charrieres. The blend usually includes fruit from Millandes, but in 2009 that parcel was being replanted. This is an impressive wine graced with layers of dark red fruit. Mint and minerals add complexity on the focused, textured finish. The 1er Cru was bottled in January 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Dupont Tisserandot Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers 2009 ($99.95) $79 special 6 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“This is consistently one of the very best wines in the Dupont line-up and it often challenges the grands crus. The ’09 version is a stunner and Chevillon professes that it is the best example of the vineyard that he has ever made. An ultra-fresh and distinctly earthy nose offers up a cool nose of red pinot fruit that introduces rich, intense and mineral-driven broad-shouldered flavors that possess buckets of dry extract that buffer well the otherwise very firm tannic spine on the impressively long, chewy and mouth coating finish. This is definitely worth considering.”

Dupont Tisserandot Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques 2009 ($99.95) $75 special 4 bottles available
Wine Spectator 93 points
“This is rich, lush and permeated with sandalwood, black currant and blackberry flavors. The tannins have a grainy sensation, keeping this focused and rooted in the earth. Tobacco and spice accents add depth. Best from 2015 through 2029.”

Dupont Tisserandot Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2009 ($59.95) $44 special 8 bottles available
Burghound 88-91 points
“A slightly riper and more complex if less elegant aromatic profile speaks of game, underbrush and dark berry fruit aromas that complement well the earthy, rich, concentrated and serious medium-bodied flavors that possess firm tannins and fine balance on the solidly long finish. This is quite good and worth considering for its level.”

Dupont Tisserandot Mazis Chambertin 2009 ($159.95) $119 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 94 points
“Here the wood is already well-integrated with a relatively high-toned and slightly fresher nose of wild red currant, floral, spice and intensely earthy aromas that are more elegant than is typical for both the vintage and the appellation. The textured, concentrated, broad-scaled and overtly muscular flavors possess excellent detail and a fine-grained minerality on the firm but not aggressively tannic and mouth coating finish. This powerful effort is finer than I usually find it though to be sure, there is plenty of muscle present.”

Dupont Tisserandot Corton Rognet 2009 ($139.95) $89 special 7 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“A beautiful and highly complex nose of upper register wild red berry fruit, earth, wood toast and a hint of game that carries over to the rich, round and robust big-bodied flavors that offer both real volume and outstanding power before culminating in a chewy but not especially rustic finish. The tannins here are quite different from those of the Mazis or Charmes.”

Faiveley Chambolle Musigny Les Fuees 2009 ($199.95) $129 special 6 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 91-93 points
“Bright red-ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of black raspberry, mocha and coffee. Very ripe on the palate but juicy, tight and gripping, with superb energy to its dark berry, floral and mineral flavors. Finishes with some superripe notes and firm tannic spine. Really refreshes the palate on the very long finish. This really grew on me.”

Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers 2009 1.5Liter ($219.95) $179 special 5 bottles available
Wine Spectator 94 points
“A seductive style, with sweet spice, sandalwood, floral and cherry aromas and flavors allied to a silky texture. It’s all beautifully balanced and ends with refined, integrated tannins for focus. Excellent length and freshness. Best from 2014 through 2030.”

Faiveley NSG Vignerondes 2009 ($69.95) $59 special 23 bottles available
Burghound 90-93 points
“Here the fruit runs towards the blue side of the spectrum with aromas of blue berry, plum and violets that is in keeping with the extremely rich and mouth coating medium weight flavors that possess a seductive mouth feel even though the tannins that surface on the balanced, long and serious finish are rather firm.”

Faiveley Volnay Santenots 2009 ($99.95) $69 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“Quite deeply colored. An earthy and very ripe (though not surmature) nose of red currant, plum and a hint of black cherry merges into noticeably earthy and full-bodied flavors that are wonderfully generous and impressively concentrated possess ample amounts of dry extract that buffers the extremely serious and strikingly persistent finish. This should be gorgeous in time.”-

Follin- Arbelet Romanee St Vivant 2009 ($499.95) $333 special 12 bottles available
Burghound 92-94 points
“A ripe and exuberantly spicy nose also features an expansive range of fruit aromas that include red, blue and black berries plus plum nuances. The rich, seductive and mouth coating flavors are underpinned by phenolically mature tannins and excellent length where a touch of menthol surfaces. If there is a nit, it seems that this does not have the same level of energy of the best in the range but at this stage of development, this could easily change.”

Follin-Arbelet Aloxe Corton Clos Chapitre 2009 ($89.95) $69 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 89-91 points
“This is also relatively high-toned with an exuberant nose of dried rose petals, violets and red pinot fruit aromas that slide gracefully into the rich yet precise flavors that exude a fine minerality on the complex and solidly persistent finish. This isn’t as structured or complex as the Vercots though it’s finer.”

Follin- Arbelet Aloxe Corton Vercots 2009 ($89.95) $49 special 16 bottles available
Burghound 89-92 points
“This displays aromas that are relatively high-toned with floral and ripe red currant aromas that introduce dense, serious and very firmly structured medium weight plus flavors that possess an abundance of buffering sap on the long finish. This is clearly built to age and will require at least a decade of cellar time.”

Follin-Arbelet Corton 2009 ($129.95) $69 special 5 bottles available
Burghound 92 points
“A somber and mildly rustic nose speaks of plum liqueur and violets that are in keeping with the rich, serious and velvety big-bodied flavors that also exude a fine minerality on the dense, firmly structured and palate staining finish. This won’t win any awards for refinement but it is a classic Corton of power and muscle.”

Follin-Arbelet Corton Bressandes ($139.95) $79 special 5 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“A similar if slightly more complex nose leads to rich, suave and velvety broad-shouldered flavors that are generous as well as seductively textured, all wrapped in a beautifully persistent finish that possesses an abundance of tannin-buffering sap. This is also a very powerful and altogether serious Corton that should age extremely well. Impressive cellar potential. (91-94)/2021+”

Follin-Arbelet Pernand- Vergelesses Fichots 2009 ($59.95) $29 special 10 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 88-90 points
“This is even riper though not roasted with plum red currant and pungent earth and underbrush aromas that complements velvet-textured, rich and opulent flavors that possess excellent volume, all wrapped in a very firm and structured finish.”

Forey Clos de Vougeot 2009 ($199.95) $119 special 1 bottle available
Burghound 91 points
“This is very ripe with black cherry liqueur, plum, earth and violet aromas leading to opulent and impressively concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that culminate in a persistent finish. As one would reasonably expect, there is plenty of youthful austerity present on the very firm and chewy finish as well as a noticeable point of bitterness. Again, my score assume that the bitterness will eventually be resolved.”

Forey NSG Perrieres 2009 ($99.95) $59 special 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 92 points
“The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Perrieres is one of the more vibrant, fresh wines in this lineup. Wild cherries, violets, spices and licorice emerge from the glass in a taut, focused expression of Nuits. This shows terrific energy on the wiry finish, where high-toned, floral notes add the final layers of nuance on the mineral drenched close. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. ”

Forey Nuits St Georges 2009 ($79.95) $59 special 4 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 89 points
“Good full red. Fairly fresh aromas of black cherry, licorice, violet and menthol. A big, sweet fruit bomb in the mouth, with a distinct fleshiness to the slightly medicinal black cherry flavors. This has very good stuffing to support its tannins. Boasts fresher fruit than the Morey or Vosne bottlings. Finishes with dusty tannins and good length.”

Geantet- Pansiot Chambolle Musigny Les Baudes 2009 ($169.95) $119 special 17 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“A similar and slightly riper if less floral nose merges into very rich and concentrated tautly muscular medium weight plus flavors that possess a textured mouth feel due to the abundant presence of dry extract, all wrapped in a very firm, long and palate staining finish. This is a superb 1er and a textbook example of Les Baudes. Definitely recommended.”

Vincent Girardin Pommard Les Vignots 2009 ($49.95) $33 special 8 bottles available

Vincent Girardin Corton Renardes Grand Cru 2009 ($79.95) $49 special 1 bottle available
Stephen Tanzer 90-93 points “Good full, deep red. Deeply pitched but energetic aromas of medicinal black cherry, blackberry, licorice, violet and sexy oak. Dense, silky and sweet; at once lush and firmly built, with no shortage of energy. Coats the mouth but leaves a light touch on the long finish. Normally a rather virile style but plump in 2009.”

Vincent Girardin Vosne Romanee Suchots 2009 ($119.95) $69 special 1 bottle available
Stephen Tanzer 89-92 points
“Bright red-ruby. Black raspberry, crushed stone and minerals on the subdued but pure nose. Very rich but slightly reduced, with the black raspberry flavor dominating. Finishes with substantial dusty, firm tannins and a note of violet. I find this rather clenched wine difficult to assess today. Two of the five barrels were purchased in wine.”

Harmand- Geoffrey Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur 2009 ($69.95) $59 special 11 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur emerges from the glass with layers of dark fruit, minerals, white flowers and spices. It shows considerable depth and finesse in the deep, fruit-driven style that is the hallmark at this address. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.”

Henri Boillot Volnay Les Caillerets 2009 ($169.95) $99 special 10 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“Very mild reduction suppresses the red berry fruit somewhat but the notes of mocha, plum, stone and spice still shine through. The rich, minerally and impressively concentrated flavors brim with dry extract that buffers the solid tannic spine on the elegant, pure and balanced finish. Lovely.”

Jean Grivot Echezeaux 2009 ($249.95) $219 special 7 bottles available
Burghound 95 points
“An exuberantly spicy nose of wonderfully seductive black fruit liqueur aromas leads to rich, suave, pure and dense flavors that are a highly beguiling blend of finesse and power, all wrapped in a robust yet finely detailed finish of stunning length. This is one of the very best examples of the appellation in 2009.”

Jean Grivot Nuits Saint Georges Charmois 2009 ($79.95) $59 special 18 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91 points
“The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Charmois shows terrific energy and focus in its dark red fruit. This is an unusually soft, refined Nuits with gorgeous depth and notable textural elegance. There is enough freshness to suggest the Charmois will drink well for a number of years. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Jean Grivot Nuits Saint Georges Roncieres 2009 ($149.95) $99 special 21 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 points
“Smoke, incense and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from the 2009 Nuits St. Georges Roncieres. This is a powerful incisive wine loaded with dark fruit and minerals. All of the elements meld together gracefully, showing tremendous energy and vibrancy, especially on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Jean Grivot Vosne Romanee 2009 ($69.95) $59 special 16 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 88-90 points
“Good full red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, spices, flowers and minerals. Juicy and fruit-driven, with a suggestion of chocolatey ripeness lifted by flowers. Begins rather generous but finishes with good nervosite and suave tannins. An attractive village wine in the making.”

JJ Confuron Clos de Vougeot 2009 ($189.95) $149 special 2 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“A deft application of wood allows the pure and densely fruited nose of red pinot and violet aromas to shine through. The big-bodied and admirably concentrated flavors are underpinned by relatively fine tannins and notably less austerity than usual on the strikingly long finish. This is very solid though perhaps a bit more forward than is typical for this wine.”

Jadot Beaune Bressandes 2009 ($59.95) $36 special 10 bottles available
Wine Spectator 91 points
“Though the cherry flavor is bright and pure, there’s a woody component to this wine that lends a sweet spice note and dry tannins to the finish. Elegant and tight-grained. Best from 2015 through 2027. 170 cases imported”

Jadot Beaune Theurons 2009 ($59.95) $33 special 16 bottles available
Wine Spectator 91 points
“Bright and succulent, with a touch of oak lending spice accents to the candied cherry core. An elegant, lacy red, yet with intensity. Feels like it’s holding something back. Best from 2015 through 2027. 229 cases imported”

Jadot Corton Greves 2009 ($109.95) $59 special 7 bottles available
Burghound 91-93 points
“An earthy, serious and relatively deeply pitched nose speaks of game, dark berry fruit and underbrush notes that also characterize the delicious, intense and quite serious medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent depth on the firmly structured and mouth coating finish. This should mature into an excellent Corton with 12 to 15 years of cellar time though at the same time, it will likely be approached after 7 to 8.”

Jadot Pernand-Vergelesses Clos de la Croix de Pierre Rouge 2009 ($44.95) $27 special 20 bottles available
Burghound 89 points ‘Outstanding’
“Not surprisingly, this is an extremely fresh ’09 with its bright red berry fruit, stone and subtle earth aromas that precede delicious, intense and attractively vibrant middle weight flavors that possess good detail and focus on the ever-so-mildly austere but lingering finish. This has good underlying material and should benefit from a few years in bottle in order to round out a bit as it’s somewhat standoffish at present.”

Jadot Pommard Epenots 2009 ($59.95) $49 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 90-93 points
“Somewhat curiously, this is fruitier and less complex than the Clos de la Commaraine with a mix of red currant, plum and blue berry as well as the typical warm earth nuances. The delicious, fresh and energetic middle weight flavors possess good mid-palate density and good drive on the dusty, mouth coating and overtly austere but long finish. This should also be very impressive in time.”

Jadot Pommard Rugiens 2009 ($89.95) $69 special 1 bottle available
Wine Spectator 92 points
“Though ripe with cherry and plum flavors, this red is also fresh and well-toned, courtesy of its rigid tannins. All the elements are in the right proportions, with a nice marriage of fruit and tannins on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2024. 90 cases imported.”

Jadot Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 ($249.95) $159 special 15 bottles available
Burghound 92-95 points
“(from the oldest vines of the entire Jadot portfolio of owned vineyards). A pretty and cool mix of upper and lower register aromas includes notes of red currant, wild red berries, earth and stone hints. The attractively energetic and focused medium weight plus flavors possess very fine mid-palate concentration with a silky yet firm mouth feel. There is excellent depth and length to the palate staining finish that is an exercise in harmony and balance though there is some youthful asperity present. Lovely and this should age exceptionally well.”

Jadot Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 ($179.95) $119 special 4 bottles available
Wine Advocate 90-92 points
“The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin shows excellent suppleness in its round fruit. This is a generous, open style with good balance, even if the wine lacks the sheer excitement of the best selections here. Bright red fruits and flowers inform the open, accessible finish. The Charmes is made from purchased wine. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.”

Jadot Clos de la Roche 2009 ($249.95) $149 special 11 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92-95 points
“The 2009 Clos de la Roche comes across as big, powerful and a touch heavy-handed. This shows tons of richness and depth but lacks the sheer excitement of the estate’s finest wines. The Clos de la Roche is made from purchased wine. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.”

Jadot Clos St Denis Domaine Gagey 2009 ($319.95) $199 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“(from 90+ year old vines that are worked by horse). A ripe and notably somber but attractively spicy nose blends both red and blue berry fruit with earth nuances that can also be found on the rich, round, supple and refined medium-bodied flavors that possess moderately good, if not truly special, depth and length. However, like the Clos de Vougeot, it just feels as though there is more here than is presently being reflected and again, my score reflects this optimism that it will surface in time.”

Jadot Clos de Vougeot 2009 ($179.95) $99 special 4 bottles available
Wine Spectator 96 points
“Displays enticing aromas of flowers, cherry, strawberry and spice, with a hint of leather and licorice in reserve and a long, long finish. A wall of tannins shuts this down-at least for now. The aromas are worth the price of admission. Best from 2016 through 2035. 300 cases imported.”

Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles St Jacques 2009 ($129.95) $79 special 3 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91-93 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles St. Jacques emerges from the glass with explosive dark fruit. This is an especially large scaled, big style of Gevrey, but all of the elements come together nicely in the glass. The tannins turn incisive on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques 2009 ($129.95) $79 special 5 bottles available
Burghound 90-92 points
“In contrast to the expressiveness of the Lavaut, this is quite restrained with cool red stone-infused aromas that possess a background trace of Gevrey-style earth and game. The detailed and energetic flavors possess good depth on the linear and mildly austere finish. I like the quality of the underlying material and this should age well as it has both the concentration and overall balance to do so.”

Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Petite Chapelle 2009 ($109.95) $59 special 7 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer notes
“Palish medium red. Rather medicinal, minty nose. Supple on entry but cool and minty in style, with fruit in the background. Shows good length but the tannins are dominant today.”

Jadot Grands Echezeaux 2009 ($319.95) $199 special 1 bottle available
Burghound 92-95 points
“The 2009 Grands-Echezeaux is a fresh, vibrant wine. Minerality takes center stage in this perfumed, sweet Burgundy. The clenched style calls for patience, but the wine’s potential seems quite high. The finish is vibrant and impeccably polished in every way. The Grands-Echezeaux is made from purchased wine. Not surprisingly, this is totally different in style from the Echezeaux. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.”WA

Jadot Marsannay 2009 ($39.95) $24 special 23 bottles available
Burghound 87-89 points
“A distinctly earthy yet quite pretty, indeed even somewhat perfumed nose of raspberry and cherry aromas leads to detailed, supple and delicious middle weight flavors where the tannins are only mildly rustic on the firm but not tough and slightly warm finish. This should offer 4 to 6 years of improvement.”

Jadot Mazis Chambertin 2009 ($219.95) $149 special 15 bottles available
Burghound 92-95 points
“This is actually quite elegant with cool and wild red berry aromas that display discreet hints of earth and the sauvage. The restrained, precise and intense medium-bodied flavors possess very good concentration and the sauvage character really comes up on the energetic and gorgeously complex finish. This is not an especially big or powerful Mazis but the balance is impeccable as is the beautiful sense of harmony. This should also age very well.”

Jadot Vosne Romanee Beaux Monts 2009 ($129.95) $89 special 7 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“This changed radically from the last time that I saw it. Initially, relatively strong reduction knocked down the nose but it required no more than 15 minutes to completely dissipate to reveal spicy but subdued plum, violet and black pinot fruit aromas. Pure, intense and mineral-inflected middle weight flavors possess good mid-palate concentration and a truly lovely mouth feel as the class of Vosne is immediately evident as the altitude of Beaux Monts as this is not nearly as ripe as any number of these ’09s. The finish is focused and still relatively tight with a lovely sense of verve. Overall, this is more a hypothetical blend of 2008 and 2009 as there is more obvious acid support and while it’s not as rich or opulent as many ’09s, I quite like this for its purity of expression and overall harmony.”

Leroy Vosne Romanee Beaux Monts 2009 ($999.95) $799 special 3 bottles available
Wine Advocate 96 points
“The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts bursts from the glass with dazzling fruit that covers every inch of the palate. Sweet dark fruit, spices, tar and leather are some of the notes that flesh out on the stunning, multi-dimensional finish. This is a dazzling wine endowed with tons of class and sheer pedigree. It is not to be missed. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Leroy Vosne Romanee Les Genaivrieres 2009 ($699.95) $479 special 2 bottles available
Wine Advocate 95+ points
“The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Aux Genaivrieres opens with delicate spice notes, then explodes on the mid-palate with waves of flavor. Sweet crushed rose petal notes develop in the glass, weaving through the eternal finish. This is a gorgeous, fleshy wine graced with exquisite class. I especially like the way the Genaivrieres fleshes out on the finish. Frankly, its hard to move on to the next wine after this. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Rene Leclerc Gevrey Chambertin 2009 ($59.95) $39 special 3 cases available
Burghound notes
“A reserved nose speaks of pungent earth and fresh red currant aromas that slide seamlessly into nicely rich and voluminous flavors that are also very forward and open on the balanced, persistent and sappy finish. This should benefit from 4 to 6 years of cellar time.”

Louis Boillot Volnay Brouillards 2009 ($84.95) $59 special 18 bottles available
Burghound 90-92 points
“This is also wonderfully expressive with its mix of upper and lower register red berry fruits, earth and mineral hints that carry over to the rich but detailed medium-bodied flavors that also evidence plenty of minerality on the generous, balanced, long and relatively refined finish. This is actually rather powerful and while fine, it’s not quite as fine as the Les Angles yet makes up for this with the heightened sense of underlying tension.”

Maume Bourgogne Rouge 2009 ($34.95) $27 special 2 bottles available
Maume Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 2009 ($169.95) $139 special 11 bottles available

JF Mugnier Nuits Saint Georges Marechale 2009 ($119.95) $79 special 12 bottles available
Wine Advocate 90-92 points “The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Clos de la Marechale is a seriously dark, rich and concentrated wine that stands apart from most of the production here. The intense core of fruit powers through to the intense, imposing finish where sweet spices and licorice add the final layers of complexity. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.”

Georges Noellat NSG Boudots 2009 ($99.95) $75 special 11 bottles available
Georges Noellat Vosne Romanee Beaux Monts 2009 ($99.95) $79 special 23 bottles available

Pavelot Savigny les Beaune 2009 ($39.95) $27 special 24 bottles available
Burghound  88 points  “This is also aromatically quite pretty with ripe red berry and plum aromas liberally laced with ample amounts of Savigny-style earth that continues onto the round, supple and appealing flavors that culminate in a balanced and naturally sweet finish. Lovely and fashioned in Pavelot’s usual understated style.”

Ponsot Chapelle Chambertin 2009 ($399.95) $249 special 5 bottles available
Burghound 93-95 points
“Somewhat surprisingly, here the nose is even more elegant than that of the Griotte with its cool, airy and pure red cherry-liqueur, spice and essence of liquid minerality suffused nose that leads to dense, intense and equally mineral-driven big-bodied but refined flavors, all wrapped in a beautifully detailed, explosively long and youthfully austere finish. This is a serious and quite restrained effort that will require the better part of two decades to reach its full apogee.”

Ponsot Clos de la Roche VV 2009 ($799.95) $549 special 2 bottles available
Burghound 96-98 points
“This, along with the Clos St. Denis, is the most complete wine in the range with mild reduction that isn’t strong enough to completely block the spice, earth and game infused nose that introduces strikingly rich, naturally sweet and mouth coating flavors that explode on the formidably long finish. This is a classy wine with absolutely superb complexity, impeccable balance and almost uncanny presence, all delivered with grace and power. Be prepared to be patient however as this will need plenty of time. A ‘wow’ wine.”

Ponsot Morey St Denis Cuvee Alouettes 2009 ($179.95) $99 special 4 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“A very pretty nose of discreet spice notes, red currants and damp earth nuances that continue onto the rich, powerful and impressively concentrated medium-bodied flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that buffers the notably firm, mineral-driven and wonderfully complex finish that seems to go on and on. This is terrific and one of the best vintages that I have ever seen for this wine.”

Pousse d’or Corton Bressandes 2009 ($189.95) $109 special 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2009 Corton-Les Bressandes is an implosive wine. It possesses massive structure and powerful tannins, but the best is many years away. The fruit is very nicely textured on the long, pointed finish. This shows superb purity, class and pedigree. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2039. ”

Pousse d’Or Pommard Jarollieres 2009 ($149.95) $79 special 2 bottles available
Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2009 Pommard Les Jarolieres saturates the palate with its round, ripe fruit. This shows lovely depth and richness, then turns quite a bit more powerful and tannic on the finish. Sweet menthol and crushed rocks wrap around the close. Les Jarolieres is on the border with Volnay. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2039. ”

Pousse d’Or Santenay Clos Tavannes 2009 ($89.95) $49 special 2 bottles available
Burghound 90 points
” A very ripe nose of plum and red berry fruit trimmed in light stone aromas leads to rich, earthy and very generous middle weight flavors that possess a complex, vibrant and utterly delicious finish. This is lovely and worth considering.”

Pousse d’Or Volnay Bousse d’Or 2009 ($149.95) $89 special 19 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“A slightly more refined nose speaks of red berry fruit that is liberally laced with notes of cassis and blue berry while introducing rich and even more elegant medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a firm, long and serious finish that possesses real verve. This beauty should amply reward a decade of cellar time.”

Pousse d’Or Volnay Clos Audignac 2009 ($149.95) $77 special 4 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2009 Volnay Clos d’Audignac is the most open and inviting of these 2009s today. Layers of rich, textured fruit flow across the palate in stunning style. Hints of goudron and licorice add complexity to the dark, jammy fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2039. ”

Pousse d’Ore Volnay en Caillerets 2009 ($139.95) $79 special 8 bottles available
Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2009 Volnay En Caillerets bursts from the glass with a huge, explosive bouquet. Blackberries, blueberries, hard candy and spices are just a few of the notes that emerge from this layered, intense Burgundy. There is plenty of inner tension here, in fact the Caillerets appears to be holding back a lot of its potential. It is a dazzling wine though, and one built for the long haul. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2049.”

Pousse d’Or Chambolle Musigny Feusselotte 2009 ($179.95) $99 special 1 bottle available
Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes represents the height of elegance. Here we find the femininity of Chambolle, but with an extra dimension of power and muscle to match. Crushed flowers and sweet spices add the final nuances on the subtle finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.”

Pousse d’Or Chambolle Musigny Groseilles 2009 ($119.95) $79 special 1 bottle available
Burghound 91 points ‘OUTSTANDING
‘ “A similar if more reserved and more complex though no more elegant nose introduces rich, round, fleshy and naturally sweet flavors that possess really lovely detail and fine overall balance and length. This is a classic Chambolle that is relatively forward in that it could be approached now if desired though for my taste, it will require the better part of a decade to arrive at its peak.”

Pousse d’Or Clos de la Roche 2009 ($319.95) $199 special 4 bottles available
Wine Advocate 95 points
“The 2009 Clos de la Roche saturates the palate with tons of fruit. Despite its richness, the Clos de la Roche remains brilliant through and through, with dazzling elegance and an intense, powerful finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2044. ”

Jacques Prieur Chambertin 2009 ($379.95) $299 special 3 bottles available
Burghound 92-95 points
“Moderate reduction renders the nose difficult to read though there is good energy to the cool, reserved and tight broad-shouldered flavors that are stunningly complex and hugely long on the mineral-driven finish. This is a seriously impressive effort that just oozes class.”

Jacques Prieur Clos de Vougeot 2009 ($299.95) $179 special 6 bottles available
Burghound 92-94 points
“Somewhat surprisingly, this is every bit as elegant as the Bressandes with a ripe nose that includes floral elements to the red currant and black berry fruit aromas. There is excellent density to the quite serious, brooding and concentrated medium weight plus flavors that exude plenty of dry extract that buffers the otherwise very firm yet fine tannins that add to the mild finishing austerity on the explosively long finish. Prieur’s Clos de Vougeot is rarely top flight given the position of the vines yet in years like 2009 where position with the Clos is less important, an excellent wine can be fashioned and such is the case with this one.”

Jacques Prieur Echezeaux 2009 ($399.95) $289 special 5 bottles available
Burghound 92-94 points
“A very ripe and highly expressive nose offers up a beguiling array of spice elements that include soy, hoisin and anise that add breadth to the violet and plum liqueur aromas. There is excellent volume to the rich, concentrated and velvet-textured big-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract on the balanced, deep and seriously persistent finish. This is an excellent Ech with plenty of aging potential.”

Rapet Pernand Vergelesses Belles Filles 2009 ($44.95) $33.90 special 8 bottles available
Burghound notes
“This is a ripe Pernand with very pretty aromas of red berries and plum nuances that lead to earthy and mildly rustic middle weight flavors that possess good punch and plenty of verve on the moderately persistent finish. This should drink well young but offer a few years of development potential as well.”

Roche de Bellene Savigny Les Beaune Vieilles Vignes 2009 ($29.95) $24 special 9 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 88 points
“Medium red. Perfumed, slightly liqueur-like, high-toned aromas of candied raspberry and rose petal. Red cherry and menthol flavors are perked up by dill and mint nuances and given definition by bright acidity. Silky-sweet but at the same time fresh for 2009. Good honest wine with dusty tannins and very good verve.”

Roche de Bellene Volnay Pitures 1er Cru ($49.95) $41.90 special 9 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 89-92 points
“Bright dark red. Complex aromas of raspberry, leather, smoke and flowers. Creamy-sweet but a bit unforthcoming, with pepper and menthol notes currently dominating red fruits. Just a tad tough today, with a slight dry edge to the finish. An awkward showing today for this very ripe wine.”

Roche de Bellene Charmes Chambertin 2009 ($199.95) $169 special 10 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 92-94 points
“Bright, deep red. Lovely high-pitched aromas of raspberry, black cherry, minerals and rose petal, with a whiff of menthol. Juicy, sappy and delicate, with lovely precision and a light touch to the flavors of red fruits, smoky oak and earth. ‘True’ Charmes in a juicy, elegant style.”

Roche de Belle Vosne Romanee Malconsorts 2009 ($219.95) $189 special 24 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points
“This is presently the spiciest of the three Vosne 1ers in the range which adds plenty of background nuance and complexity to the red currant, plum and cassis aromas. The earthy and relatively powerful big-bodied flavors possess excellent intensity and copious amounts of dry extract that coats the palate on the hugely long finish. Despite the youthful expressiveness presently being displayed, this is really quite a serious effort that I suspect will shut down for a good while as it’s clearly built to age.”

Serafin Chambolle Musigny Les Baudes 2009 ($159.95) $109 special 19 bottles available
Wine Advocate 91-93 points “The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Baudes is one of the more open, radiant wines in this lineup. There is an unabashed sexiness to the fruit that is quite beautiful. This shows superb intensity and juiciness all the way through to the round, finish. The Baudes comes from a parcel next to de Vogue’s vineyards in Bonnes Mares. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.”

Serafin Charmes Chambertin 2009 ($279.95) $219 special 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 95+ points
“The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin is striking, even if it is an infant today. Graceful and weightless through to the finish, the 2009 impresses for its balance, freshness and overall sense of structure. This is far from and easygoing 2009. It will require at least a decade to enter the early part of its drinking window. Here, too the integration of fruit and structure is superb. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.”

Serafin Gevrey Chambertin 2009 ($69.95) $49 special 3 bottles available
Wine Spectator 90 points
“Bright with cherry, plum and spice flavors, this red also has a density to its texture. A light touch of oak tightens this up, and the fruit is as pure as this is long. Best from 2013 through 2020. 35 cases imported”

Serafin Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2009 ($99.95) $69 special 21 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 90 points
“Medium red.  Full-blown aromas of coffee, mocha and game.  Less fruity than the basic village wine but dense, sweet and nicely fresh, with a deep middle and plenty of medicinal reserve.  Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and persistent notes of chocolate, coffee and underbrush.”

Serafin Gevrey Chambertin Corbeaux 2009 ($139.95) $89 special 12 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 91 points
“Juicy, precise aromas of red berries, cherry, spices and mocha, plus a whiff of menthol. Juicy, fine-grained and densely packed but a bit medicinal today. For all its richness this communicates an impression of weightlessness. In fact, this wine is downright balanced and bright.  Firmly tannic and dusty but not dry. Finishes long and lively.”

Serafin Gevrey Chambertin Fontenys 2009 ($159.95) $109 special 5 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys is layered with dark cherries, flowers, spices and menthol. This is an especially fleshy, textured Gevrey. The showy personality of the vintage comes through, but there is also plenty of underlying structure and vibrancy. I especially like the intensity of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.”

Serafin Morey St Denis Millandes 2009 ($159.95) $99 special 21 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 points
“The 2009 Morey St. Denis Millandes is fabulous. It boasts a great combination of rich, dark fruit and powerful structure. Today the wine is already starting to shut down, something that bodes quite well for the future. Mint, flowers, spices and licorice stain the palate on the deep, resonant finish. This is a brilliant showing from Christian Serafin. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.”

Violot Guillemard Beaune Clos des Mouches 2009 ($69.95) $59 special 8 bottles available
Burghound 90 points
“A soupçon of wood does not interfere with the transparency of the very fresh mineral-inflected red pinot fruit aromas that complement the equally fresh and energetic middle weight flavors that possess good mid-palate density and culminate in a racy, detailed and focused finish. Lovely and while this is not especially complex at present, the underlying material is such that it appears that more depth will develop.”

Violot Guillemard Pommard Clos de Derriere St Jeane 2009 ($99.95) $79 special 10 bottles available
Burghound 92 points
“This is also ultra-elegant, high-toned and admirably pure with essence of red pinot fruit trimmed in hints of underbrush merging seamlessly into detailed and lightly mineral-infused flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration and absolutely impeccable balance. An ageworthy Pommard of finesse and refinement.”

Violot Guillemard Pommard Epenots 2009 ($119.95) $89 special 5 bottles available
Burghound 93 points
“A pure and soft red berry fruit nose that is elegant, airy and solidly complex is trimmed in a judicious amount of wood. The suave, seductive and beautifully textured flavors coat the palate with dry extract that renders the otherwise firm tannic spine less prominent on the strikingly well-balanced finish. This is really quite classy and stylish and should make for a terrific Epenots in 10 to 12 years. Highly recommended.”

Vougeraie Bonnes Mares 2009 ($299.95) $235 special 9 bottles available
Burghound 92-95 points
“50% whole clusters. An intensely floral and spicy nose that is wonderfully elegant and admirably pure speaks of wet stone, red currant plus warm earth and sauvage hints that transfer to the muscular but precise and mineral-inflected big-bodied flavors that possess copious amounts of dry extract that buffers the very firm tannins and allowing for perfect balance on the mouth coating and linear finish. A classic Bonnes Mares that will require 15 to 20 years to arrive at its majority.”
