Quinta do Noval

“This wine is a mysterious phenomenon, a magical wine produced in extremely limited quantities and only in a few years each decade. It is the expression of a terroir and confirms something that is for me a deeply held belief. The Nacional is great because of the grapes and where they come from, not because of anything particular that we do. It has a unique personality, an extraordinary intensity and, even after many years of ageing, retains an astonishing youthfulness.” Christian Seely, managing director

The Port estate and shipper, Quinta do Noval, traces its history to 1715. The Quinta is most famous for producing a vintage port (Nacional) from ungrafted vines in a small parcel within its vineyard. The majority of the vineyard was replanted after the phylloxera outbreak by Antonio Jose de Silva. He purchased the estate not long after the outbreak, and made an effort to replant with traditional Douro varieties. A small parcel of the vineyard was unaffected. This parcel and the vintage port produced from it are called Nacional in reference to the vines being directly attached to the soil of the Nation (no foreign rootstock). Nacional is one of the most concentrated ports produced due to the small yield and berry size from the ungrafted vines. Since 1994, the Quinta has become more selective in declaring vintages for the Nacional versus their other vintage ports.

All of the Quinta’s vintage ports are produced by foot treading the grapes in stone lagares. The wines are aged in air-conditioned cellars within traditional casks. The Vintage Port is produced from the greater vineyard. It is declared on average 3 or 4 years out of a decade. Its style is one of “equilibrium, harmony, finesse and elegance.”

Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port 2004 750ML ($699.95) Was $599, Now $419, 5 bottles available
Wine Advocate 97 points “The 2004 Quinta do Noval Nacional has a show-stopping bouquet that is cut from a completely different cloth than the 2004 Vintage. This is far more extravagant and decadent, with kirsch, camphor, incense and crushed violets exploding from the glass. You might think it was some super Barossa Syrah if you nosed it blind. The palate is intense with penetrating, citrus-fresh black currant and dark-plum fruit. It is has lovely caressing, slightly grainy textured, well-judged acidity and a composed, elegant finish. This is pure class, a hedonistic Nacional surfeit with swagger and style. Drink 2020-2050. Tasted January 2014.” WA

Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2012 750ML ($99.95) Was $89, Now $69, 17 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 points “Lucid purple/ruby in color, the first thing to strike you is the purity on the nose. There is a surfeit of fresh fig, prune and raisin that actually brings to mind a more tempered Fonseca. It is beautifully defined, not the most complex Noval, but seemingly approachable just like the 2011. The palate is well endowed with plenty of tangy, very spicy dark plums and blackcurrant fruit, a healthy dash of cracked black pepper and a very animated, attacking finish that is determined to make an impression, if not to be overshadowed by the 2011. This is a superb addition to recent Noval releases, one that I perhaps would broach earlier than others. Just 1,000 cases for this limited release.” WA

Ken Wright Cellars Wines Just Arrived!

Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Blanc, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML ($24.95) $21.90 special
Winery note “Pinot Blanc is a lighter-colored natural mutation of Pinot Gris. Our sources for this fruit are a two acre block of Meredith Mitchell Vineyard and a half acre block of Freedom Hill Vineyard. After pressing the fruit, the juice is fermented in neutral French barrels. The neutral casks give us rich textures without imparting new oak that would detract from the bright fruit/mineral/floral profile of the wine. The new wine remains in barrel with the original yeast and is not racked until bottling.”

Ken Wright Cellars ‘Celilo Vineyard’ Chardonnay, Columbia Gorge 2011 750ML ($31.95) $28 special
Wine Spectator 92 points “This taut white is brilliantly focused and layered with mineral and spice notes between pineapple and quince flavors. Persists gently on the lively finish. Drink now through 2020. 1,110 cases made.”HS
Winery note “All the fruit for our chardonnay is sourced from the Celilo Vineyard. The Celilo Vineyard is a unique vineyard situated on a 1,000 foot bluff overlooking the Columbia River in the Columbia River Gorge. It lies on the south face of Mount Underwood, which is currently an inactive volcano. The soil is pulverized basalt, extremely porous and loose, which promotes deep rooting. The vineyard was planted in 1983. Unlike the Chardonnay grown in the hot eastern desert of Washington, this is a much cooler site. As a result, the fruit retains more acidity and the wine displays a clean mineral character with an expansive texture.”

Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML ($27.95) $24 special

Ken Wright Cellars ‘Abbott Claim Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Winery note “Floral & spice focused; tart cherry, pomegranate & grapefruit with notes of cardamom, anise and fresh cut pine. This site is a portion of the original John F. Abbott Donation Land Claim and lies in the middle of Savannah Ridge, a small east-west ridgeline of sedimentary rock just east of Carlton. This is a consistent broad face of land with soil depths of 30 inches to mother rock. Elevation ranges from 400′ to 475′ and the inclination is S-SE. Soils are mostly Wellsdale with some areas of Willakenzie, Melbourne and Peavine. All of them lie atop mother rock of fractured sandstone and siltstone. The planted acreage totals 17 acres. Vines are roughly an equal mix of Pommard clone on Riparia Gloire rootstock, 777 on 101-14 and 115 on both 101-14 and 3309. As would be expected from a vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton District the wine is very darkly colored, dense and lush. Fruits tend to be darker such as plum, cassis and black cherry. Ken and Karen Wright own the vineyard. Mark Gould is the vineyard manager.”

Ken Wright Cellars ‘Canary Hill Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Winery note “Fruit focused; modest structure, light tannins and bright acidity. Red and blue fruit – juicy red plum, pie cherry, and marionberry. Located at the southern end of the Eola Hills and faces east. The original vines were planted in 1983 and 1984. All of the acreage planted to Pinot noir was Pommard clone. Two and a half acres that were originally Chenin Blanc were replanted to Pommard and Dijon 114 clones. Six acres that were planted to Chardonnay were replaced with Dijon 777 clone. The entire 20 acres are now planted to Pinot noir. Elevation is 450′ to 550′. The soil is a mix of Jory and Nekia. Both are formed from igneous rock and have a reddish-brown tint. This site, however, has less depth than similar soils in the Dundee Hills. Wine from Canary Hill is typically very forward, with aromas of black cherry and cola. Approximately 625 cases are produced. The vineyard was owned, planted and tended for many years by Dick and Nancy Daniel. It is now owned by Ken and Karen Wright. Mark Gould and Seth Miller manage the vineyard.”

Ken Wright Cellars ‘Carter Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Winery note “Fruit focused; moderate tannins and acidity. Blue and black fruit, black cherry, blueberry, blackberry and plum skin. Located just 1 mile from Canary Hill in the Eola Hills, Carter Vineyard is lower on the hillside yet has a leaner and less fertile soil. It is mainly Nekia soil, which is formed from weathered basic rock. It lies at an elevation of 325′ and was planted in 1983. This bottling is comprised of the Wadenswil, Dijon 777, Dijon 667, Dijon 115, and Pommard clones. The wine is much firmer than Canary Hill in its youth but evolves beautifully after a few years in bottle to show dark fruits and fresh, healthy earth scents. Approximately 650 cases are produced. The vineyard is owned by Jack and Kathleen Carter, and managed by Mark Gould.”

Ken Wright Cellars ‘Freedom Hill Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Winery note “Floral & spicy focused; brighter acidity than most sedimentary sites. Red fruits, lush mouthfeel, juicy strawberry, watermelon with hints of leather & fresh-turned Earth qualities. Freedom Hill Vineyard is located in the Coast Range just south of Dallas, OR. The soil type is known as Bellpine, which is sedimentary in origin. The fruit from our 2.85 acre block is wholly Pommard clone. The vineyard was originally planted in 1980. Wines from this site were once the firmest and most structured that we worked with. After replanting from phylloxera devastation the site was refitted with a vertical shoot position trellis. This switch from a hanging trellis affords more shading of the fruit area. The less exposed berries have thinner skins and lighter tannin levels which allow the resulting wine to be lush and approachable at an earlier age. Approximately 340 cases are produced. The vineyard is owned and managed by Dan & Helen Dusschee.”

Ken Wright Cellars ‘Guadalupe Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Winery note “Floral & spice focused; very forward & attractive in its youth with a depth of flavor – raspberry, black cherry, mulberry & five-spice. The vineyard was planted in 1989 and represents the definable change of the Jory soils of the Dundee Hills to the sedimentary soil of the Yamhill-Carlton District. It is spaced 7′ by 5′ and is planted to the Wadenswil and Dijon 115 clones. The soil, known as Willakenzie, is a well-drained shallow soil over siltstone. It lies at an elevation of 350′. The vineyard consistently produces small berries and clusters that are intensely colored. The wine possesses the character of blue fruits, cocoa, leather and earth. Approximately 400 cases are produced. Jim Stonebridge and Kathleen Boeve own the vineyard. It is managed by Joel Myers.”

Ken Wright Cellars ‘Savoya Vineyard’ Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton District 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Winery note “Floral & spice focused. Black cherry, cranberry, pomegranate with earthy cola and saddle leather notes. This is the first vineyard directly owned and developed by Ken Wright Cellars. The vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton District northeast of Carlton. Planting began in 1999 with 4.5 acres of clones 777 and 115 on phylloxera resistant rootstock. Total planted acreage as of spring 2002 is approximately 17 acres. Vine spacing is 6.5′ x 4′ and the elevations averages 450′. The soil is comprised of marine sediments known as Wellsdale and Willakenzie. These are sandy soils which drain quickly and hasten the ripening process. Our first commercial crop, 2002, has produced a muscular wine that has aromas of dense black fruit, seared meat, cedar and anise. Approximately 240 cases are produced. Ken and Karen Wright are owners. The vineyard is managed by Mark Gould and Taylor Varuska.”

Joseph Carr Wines

Praised by New York Times wine writer Eric Asimov as producing “wines of balance and restraint,” Joseph Carr Wines provide exceptional value. Joseph Carr founded his wine company in 2005 after 10 years of experience as a sommelier and 10 years as a wine industry executive. He strove to create wines of balance, sophistication and approachability, with a distinctive Californian character. He sourced grapes from some of the state’s top AVAs: Rutherford, Oakville and Stags Leap District. In 2010, Aaron Pott became the winemaker at Joseph Carr Wines. Pott has worked at such prestigious estates as Newton Vineyard (under John Kongsgaard), Chatuea Troplong Mondotand Chateau La Tour Figeac and was recognized as Winemaker of the Year by Food & Wine. Pott believes in producing wines of balance with minimal intervention.

We offer their 2013 Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast AVA, which is known for its cool climate, and high rainfall relative to other parts of Sonoma County. The long dry and sunny summer days combined with cool nights, ocean breezes and fog, produce the ideal condition for growing wine grapes. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa County is sourced from hillside vineyards with thin, poor soils that produce smaller berries with more intense flavors. The yields are kept low. Wines produced from these mountainside vineyards tend to be characterized by deep inky colors and strong berry aromas. The Cabernet also shows savory, peppery and smoky notes.

Burgundy Wines Arriving Late April
Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pere et Fils

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pere et Fils Clos Berthet Blanc, Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru 2012 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 91 points “The 2012 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Clos Berthet is a monopole of the domaine: 1-hectare of white premier cru and half a hectare of red that is for reason unbeknownst to all but the authorities, village cru. This has a fragrant, floral bouquet with subtle tropical fruit: peach and touches of passion fruit. It is nicely defined and generous. The palate is very lively and effervescent, with well-judged acidity and a lovely peach-tinged finish that is married beautifully with the 25% oak. What a lovely wine, especially the bitter lemon note on the aftertaste.” WA

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pere et Fils Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($149.95) $119 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 92-94 points “The 2012 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from 0.75-hectare of vineyards planted in the Pernand-Vergelesses: two parcels, one just in front of the “Le Charlemagne” restaurant. It has a very mineral-driven bouquet that is tightly wound at the moment, with a subtle walnut note scampering around in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a very pure, quite spicy entry with notes of dried honey and nutmeg. Good weight in the mouth here, nicely balanced with a crisp, tense finish, this is a very fine Corton-Charlemagne that should age well.” WA

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pere et Fils Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($119.95) $99 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 92-94 points “The 2012 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru comes from 0.60-hectare of vine located just next to the Hospices’ vines. It has a more feminine, slightly more rounded bouquet compared to the Bressandes at the moment, the fruit leaning a little more to the red. The palate is very well balanced with a firm backbone. There is plenty of spice tinged black and red fruit with a generous sprinkle of white pepper over the long, tender finish. Excellent.” WA

Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Pere et Fils Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($119.95) $99 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 92-94 points “The 2012 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru comes from a 0.73-hectare parcel of 35-year old vines that is raised in around 30% new oak. It has a lovely, rather regal bouquet with broody black fruit that open nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, lively black fruit, a lovely citric seam and great nervosite towards the finish. This is a very fine grand cru.” WA

Le Montrachet
Louis Jadot Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 750ML ($499.95) $379 special, 3 bottles available
John Gilman 95+ points “The 2009 Jadot Montrachet (which hails from the Chassagne side of the vineyard, by the way) is also exceptional. The nose offers up a great and compelling mélange of apple, white peach, lemon, great minerality, floral tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and superbly structured, with a rock solid core of fruit, beautiful focus and balance, impeccable grip and a very long, racy and refined finish. A wonderful bottle of wine. 2020-2050”

Louis Jadot Montrachet Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($419.95) $349 special, 3 bottles available
Burghound 94-97 points “Here the nose is notably more reserved with aromas of citrus zest, spice, wood toast, fennel and spice hints. This is also a very imposingly-scaled wine with its big, muscular and wonderfully complex flavors that culminate in a long, focused and explosive finish of breathtaking length and intensity. This overtly powerful effort should reward at least a decade in the cellar and drink well for another. A ‘wow’ wine.” BH

Louis Jadot Montrachet Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($699.95) $449 special, 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92-94 points “There are five barrels of the 2012 Montrachet Grand Cru in 2012 compared to the usual ten. The nose is surprisingly reticent at first, opening gradually in the minerality poking its head from under the covers. Coming back after three minutes, the aromatics are accelerating away. The palate is very well-balanced as one would hope, very focused with subtle, spicy notes under the carapace of citrus fruit.” WA

Richebourg
Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Richebourg Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($599.95) $419 special, 2 bottles available
Burghound 93-95 points “Don’t miss! A distinctly toasty nose of subtle spice, earth and very cool yet ripe dark berry fruit aromas are trimmed in plenty of floral character. There is gorgeous intensity to the mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that possess outstanding delineation on the extract-rich mid-palate before terminating in a refined but overtly powerful and muscular finish that delivers strikingly good length. This too is decidedly built for longer-term cellaring.” BH

Thibault Liger-Belair Richebourg Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($599.95) $499 special, 9 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 95-97 points “A drop-dead gorgeous beauty, the 2012 Richebourg takes hold of all the senses with a kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors that is truly breathtaking. This is a gracious Richebourg that adds considerable finesse to all of the structure one expects to find. Violets, cloves, new leather and black fruit are all supported by veins of cool, incisive minerality. The flavors are intense and resonant, with tons of mineral drive and pure energy. What a magnificent wine this is. Liger-Belair vinified the Richebourg with fully destemmed fruit.” AG

Romanee-Saint-Vivant
Domaine de L’Arlot Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2012 1.5L ($1,499.95) $1,099 special, 1 magnum available
Stephen Tanzer 94-97 points “(just 3-1/2 barrels made, the single new 350-liter cask was “rinsed” by vinifying a lesser wine in it first; not yet racked): Bright dark red. Medicinal black raspberry and cocoa powder aromas are lifted by an urgent crushed stone note. Dense and sappy, with powerful minerality giving the palate a remarkably penetrating character. Wonderfully fine-grained grand cru with a magically light touch and outstanding lingering perfume. Devauges expects to rack this wine for the first time just three weeks before bottling it in June.” ST
Antonio Galloni 94-96 points “The 2012 Romanée Saint Vivant captures the essence of this great site. Aromatically lifted and precise, the RSV is all about detail. Small red berries, flowers, mint and slate emerge over time, but the Romanée Saint Vivant is first and foremost a wine of head spinning textural beauty. The generous, inviting finish makes the 2012 accessible today, but it will be even better in another few years. There is plenty of underlying structure, but the classic Romanée Saint Vivant style is implied rather than stated.” AG

Domaine Follin-Arbelet Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2009 750ML ($499.95) $333 special, 9 bottles available
Burghound 92-94 points “A ripe and exuberantly spicy nose also features an expansive range of fruit aromas that include red, blue and black berries plus plum nuances. The rich, seductive and mouth coating flavors are underpinned by phenolically mature tannins and excellent length where a touch of menthol surfaces. If there is a nit, it seems that this does not have the same level of energy of the best in the range but at this stage of development, this could easily change.”BH

Alain Hudelot-Noellat Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($599.95) $499 special, 1 bottle available
Burghound 93-95 points “As one would reasonably expect this is quite different and much more elegant with its broad-based combination of spice elements that include hoisin and soy that liberally laced throughout the red currant, plum and violet scents. There is a fleshy yet precise character to the brilliantly detailed flavors that are akin to pure silk on the palate, all wrapped in a gorgeously persistent finish. This is very classy and though it is not necessarily more complex than the Clos de Vougeot, it is even longer.” BH

Alain Hudelot-Noellat Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru 2007 1.5L ($99.95) $599 special, 3 magnums available
Stephen Tanzer 93 points “Good medium red. Highly perfumed nose combines raspberry, strawberry, cocoa powder, white pepper, blood orange and a resiny headshop spiciness. Pungent, complex and weightless; a wonderfully lively, delicate wine with sneaky intensity and superb penetrating energy and lift. Finishes dry and understated. Suave rather than large. My recorked bottle lost some verve with 24 hours, suggesting that this wine is probably best for mid-term drinking-say, beginning in five years. But that brilliant nose can’t be duplicated anywhere outside the northern C o te de Nuits. Van Canneyt told me he doesn’t consider 2007 to be a great year for this domain and that he prefers the 2008s for their depth of fruit and texture.”ST

Le Musigny
Louis Jadot Le Musigny Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($599.95) $419 special, 4 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 94-97 points “Medium red. Reticent but pristine aromas of cranberry, raspberry and clove oil, plus an exhilarating suggestion of candied fruit. Superconcentrated, silky and utterly seamless; wonderfully spherical wine with great fruit intensity and complexity and a pungent crushed stone element. Combines a texture of liquid velvet with an almost magically light touch. Finishes with noble tannins and great length and grip. Even sweeter on the finish than the Amoureuses. Great wine in the making.” ST
John Gilman 97 points”The queen in the Jadot cellars is brilliant in 2011. The stunning nose offers up a cornucopia of red and black cherries, plums, dark chocolate, woodsmoke, a marvelously complex base of soil, a touch of nutskin, mustard seed, coffee and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and potentially very velvety, with a beautifully sappy core, ripe, utterly suave tannins, great focus and balance and a very, very long, vibrant and completely seamless finish. A great bottle of Musigny in the making! 2025-2100.” -View from the Cellar

There is an impeccable sense of balance to the serious, firm and mouth coating finish. This stylish and classy effort should repay well 12 to 15 years of cellar time.”

There is excellent richness to the full-bodied, dense and mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in a naturally sweet, sappy and generous finish. The earthy and relatively powerful big-bodied flavors possess excellent intensity and copious amounts of dry extract that coats the palate on the hugely long finish. Despite the youthful expressiveness presently being displayed, this is really quite a serious effort that I suspect will shut down for a good while as it’s clearly built to age.”BH

Stephen Tanzer 91 points “”Bright medium red. Reticent high-toned aromas of slightly jammy red fruits and earth. Sweet and ripe; richer and deeper than the Porrets Saint-Georges, with silky red cherry, currant and spice flavors enlivened by pungent peppery acidity. Nicely balanced, round wine with good buffering extract.” ST

Stephen Tanzer 88-90 points “Good full red. Aromatic nose offers black cherry, licorice, violet and chocolate, plus complicating hints of leather and smoke. Not fleshy but juicy and intense, with the black fruit, violet and chocolate notes carrying through on the palate. Finishes with supple, fine-grained tannins.” ST

Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot Les Jarollieres, Pommard Premier Cru 2011 750ML ($99.95) Was $89, Now $69, 10 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 89-91 points ” Medium red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry and mocha; less floral and complex than the Volnay cuvees. Sweet and chewy on entry, then a bit cool, even austere, in the middle, showing a medicinal cast to the black fruit and chocolate flavors. Holding a lot in reserve but distinctly taut and clenched today. Finishes with tight tannins. Seems less ripe and rich than the Volnay Pitures.” ST

Domaine Robert Chevillon Les Bousselots, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2011 750ML ($99.95) Was $79, Now $69, 19 bottles available
Burghound 89-91 points “The well-layered mélange of red currant, blue berry and wet stone nuances marries seamlessly into slightly earthy, precise and energetic flavors that possess a firm but not hard tannic spine, all wrapped in a delicious and saline-infused finish. This is also quite understated yet stylish and I very much like the purity of expression.” BH

Domaine Robert Chevillon Les Pruliers, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2011 750ML ($99.95) Was $79, Now $69, 4 bottles available
John Gilman 93 points “The 2011 Chevillon Pruliers is a classic in the making, with its very black fruity and soildriven personality delivering a complex and very pure bouquet of black cherries, dark berries, gamebirds, fresh herb tones, woodsmoke, dark soil tones and coffee bean. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite broad-shouldered, with a rock solid core of fruit, excellent soil drive, ripe tannins and a very long, precise and transparent finish. Like the 2010 Pruliers, the 2011 is a very elegant young rendition of this fine wine.” JG

Domaine Henri Gouges Les Chaignots Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2010 750ML ($89.95) Was $79, Now $69, 24 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 91+ points “Palish red. Redcurrant, cherry, spices, minerals and a whiff of game on the nose. Sweet, silky and fairly deep, offering a fine-grained texture and very good energy and intensity to its red fruit flavors. This juicy, bright premier cru relies as much on its acids as on its tannins for balance and structure. Finishes subtle and long. Half of these vines were replanted in 1986 following the 1985 frost, and so this wine has been getting better and better in recent vintages, noted Gregory Gouges.” ST

Domaine Robert Chevillon Les Bousselots, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2012 750ML ($119.95) Was $99, Now $88, 11 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer—Vinous Media 90-92 points “Good bright, dark red. Deep aromas of black raspberry, minerals, smoke and flowers, along with notes of licorice and dark chocolate; ripe and sexy. A step up in density and finesse of texture from the Chaignots, offering good acid spine to its wild dark fruit flavors. Quite dry and uncompromising today, finishing bright and long, with serious tannins and a juicy character. A very good showing.” ST

Thibault Liger-Belair Les Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru 2011 750ML ($159.95) Was $109, Now $89, 28 bottles available
Burghound 93 points “(from a huge 2.10 ha parcel). The nose is all but inexpressive and only aggressive swirling liberates the reluctant red berry fruit and earth suffused aromas. There is a gorgeously silky mouth feel to the suave and opulent medium-bodied flavors that also brim with an abundance of dry extract before concluding in an intensely earthy finish. This is very, very tight today but the noteworthy upside development potential is more than evident. Strongly worth considering. Drink: 2023+.” BH

Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 2007 750ML ($179.95) Was $139, Now $119, 4 bottles available
Burghound 89-91 points “This offers a big step up in aromatic elegance with very fresh dark berry fruit and warm earth notes that carry over to the underbrush and mineral suffused medium weight flavors that possess a suave and less obviously structured mouth feel as the buried tannins are relegated to the background on the persistent and intense finish. Lovely.”BH

Claude Dugat Lavaux Saint-Jacques, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 2007 750ML ($209.95) Was $179, Now $149, 1 bottle available
Burghound 91 points “A deft touch of wood frames cool, refined, elegant and quite pure red berry fruit aromas that carry obvious stony undertones that also characterize the supple, focused and intense flavors that are tautly muscled and feature real precision on the beautifully long finish. This is a classic Lavaut in style as there is a definite coolness and the entire wine is built on a base of firm minerality.”BH

Nicolas Potel Maison Roche de Bellene Malconsorts, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru 2009 750ML ($219.95) Was $199, Now $159, 14 bottles available
Burghound 91-94 points “This is presently the spiciest of the three Vosne 1ers in the range which adds plenty of background nuance and complexity to the red currant, plum and cassis aromas.
