Daphne Glorian, who was born in Switzerland, seems an unlikely figure to be a leading winemaker in Priorat.  However she fell in love with the region, moving there to help revive old vines and make the best wines she can and she’s now a rock star in the region on the level of Palacios and Barbier.

Clos Erasmus represents her finest wine and a truly spectacular example of what the region is capable of.

A Top Malbec Blend

From Michel Rolland

If you send Michel Rolland to Argentina with the mission of making the best possible wine he can, you’re going to get a Bordeaux influenced blend based on Malbec.  Unsurprisingly, that’s what Clos de los Siete is—a perfect example of Rolland’s legendary winemaking and blending ability.  Think of it as a hypothetical cross between a modern Malbec and a right-bank Bordeaux.

2015 Montevertine

Legendary Wine from a Legendary Vintage

One of Chianti’s greatest wines isn’t labeled as a Chianti, despite being made in the heart of the Classico zone. Montevertine originally left the appellation because at the time, white grapes were required to call a wine Chianti and Sergio Manetti, the owner, wanted to make a wine that was 100% Sangiovese, a scandalous thing at the time.

Casarena makes wine from the Lujan de Cuyo section of Mendoza—a section relatively unexplored in the modern wine industry, but possessing a wealth of old vines and interesting vineyards.  The wine we’re highlighting today, from Owen’s Vineyard, is made from a block of 80+ year old, pergola trained Cabernet.
