Dönnhoff

The Nahe is one of Germany’s most compelling wine regions. Combining the heft of the Rheingau with the elegance and minerality inherent in the Mosel, the region offers something no other can boast: winemakers Helmut and Cornelius Dönnhoff. Anyone who knows the wines knows that praise is well deserved.

Dönnhoff is one of our favorite German producers.  They excel with both dry and off-dry wines, producing some of the top dozen Rieslings in nearly every vintage. Their privileged location in the Nahe, includes some of the finest and most geologically diverse vineyards in all of Germany. The other part is the exceptional drive and focus of this father and son duo, who will stop at nothing to produce the best wines in Germany.

Envinate

Envínate has drawn international praise and attention, with particular notice from Luis Gutierrez of the Wine Advocate and multiple reviewers at James Suckling. Their wines are highly sought-after by collectors for their authenticity and ability to capture the terroir of these less-well-known regions. These are fascinating, age-worthy expressions of “New Spain” wines that are not to be missed, especially not at these prices.

The wines buzz with energy, capturing the terroir of their respective regions as if by magic. But it’s no trick to what makes these wines superb: it’s hard work in the vines and low intervention in the winery that result in such spellbinding cuvées.

Produttori 750s!

“I’ve written this many times before, but it bears repeating: Produttori del Barbaresco is one of Italy’s ultimate values for your money.” –Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Produttori del Barbaresco is revered for producing classically-styled Barbaresco and Riservas of uncompromising quality and transparency. You’d be hard-pressed to find such consistent quality and complexity out of such an extensive range of single-vineyard Nebbiolos anywhere else.

We’ve admired the producer and its director, Aldo Vacca (cousin of the late Renato Vacca of Cantina del Pino), since the shop first opened. We’ve pleased to continue to offer one of Barbaresco’s finest line up. These still offer incredible value for the money, especially on our three-day sale.

As a towering figure in the Mosel, with an impressive, modern winery and holdings in almost every important vineyard in the region, Markus Molitor crafts dozens of wines each year. He believes that every single sub-parcel and selective pick should be vinified to its utmost potential. What results is a somewhat confusing, especially to those unfamiliar with German labeling conventions, but deeply rewarding portfolio of wines to explore.
