CAMERON WINES

Geeky and great! Cameron gets a lot of praise for his Burgundy by way of Willamette wines (and he deserves all of it) but his Italian-styled wines are still extremely underrated. This amphora-aged Northern Italian styled wine blew us away!

Cameron Winery Friulano, Dundee Hills, Oregon 2021 750ml $49 special, 12 bottles available
Winery Note “Inspired by the white wines of Paolo Vodopivec from the Collio of Northeastern Italy, this stunning beauty was made by putting whole berries of the Friulano fruit into a clay amphora, allowing the wild yeast to do the fermentation and then leaving the entire batch in amphora for 60 days to extract.

G.D. Vajra & Luigi Baudana 12-16-23

G.D. Vajra & Luigi Baudana

It’s rare to find benchmark wines that remain affordable, but not impossible. Rarer still if we’re talking about a wine-growing region considered one of the finest in the world for centuries. Well, if you’ve read the title of this newsletter, there’s no surprise which producer we have in mind: G.D. Vajra and the now-sister estate of Luigi Baudana.

Check the purchase record of any staff member, and you’ll know why we call G.D. Vajra one of our favorites. The estate is responsible for some of the finest Barolos we offer and also excels in entry-level options. The lineup as a whole is quite simply the best in Piedmont today. At all price points they are benchmark wines against which all others are judged.

Lebeau-Batiste:

A Crowd-Pleasing Grower with History to Spare

The utterly charming wines of Lebeau-Batiste are crafted with great respect for the land and winemaking traditions. These are crowd-pleasing wines full of fruit and zest. Given the size of production and how supremely delicious these wines are right out of the gate, it’s no surprise these are not well known or distributed this side of the Atlantic.

Eric Lebeau and Anne-Marie Batiste farm and make wine for their family estate, which dates back to the 14th century. This grower estate is nestled in the heart of the Chavot-Courcourt, a village just south of Epernay in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay.
