Chambeyron-Manin Cote Rotie

 

Chambeyron-Manin Cote Rotie is truly unicorn wine.  The estate is run by Christianne Marin, the great-granddaughter of Marius Chambeyron (whose vines also ended up in the hands of Bernard Levet).  The Cote Rotie she makes comes from a small parcel—only 0.4 hectares in the heart of the Cote Brune.  The small size of the production (only three 500L barrels of it are made every year) and the quality of the vineyard mean that these wines have come in to exceedingly high demand in recent years.

Caprili at the Best Price in the Country
Caprili has become one of the most notable names when talking about Brunello producers whose star is on the rise.  Founded relatively recently for a Tuscan estate, in 1965, the small family producer has continued to turn out some of the most exciting, traditionally styled wines from the Brunello appellation, though only recently has their name become a buzzword in industry circles.

Stylistically, these are powerful wines, with rich full textures and intense aromatics.  Fermentations here are long and in stainless, with grapes spending 25+ days on the skins before going into large format, old Slavonian oak barrels for a full three years before botting.

A 95 Point Gem of a Chateauneuf Blanc

Domaine la Solitude has become known for making some of the best white Chateauneuf around.  Taking the natural richness the wines are known for, Solitude manages to polish them with a little more finesse than many others in the region and this effort, arriving Friday, is a classic.  2016 looks to be yet another fantastic southern Rhone vintage, with the whites as some of the shining stars.  This fantastic bottling looks to be the perfect way to start getting into the wines and deserves a place on your table and in your cellar.

Bishop Creek Vineyard is a special vineyard, located in the western part of Yamhill-Carlton at a higher elevation than many of the famous sites of the AVA.  Though it’s now the estate vineyard for Nicolas Jay Winery (the Oregon outpost of esteemed Burgundy producer Jean-Nicolas Meo), Marcus Goodfellow for several years made wine for his own label and also for Bishop Creek, which were often highlights both of his portfolio as well as Yamhill in general.
