Wine Spectator 93 points “Bright and pure, with delightful pear, green almond and green plum notes laced with a fennel streak, ending with finely beaded acidity and a mineral echo through the finish.
Grapelive 94 points “Mark Vlossak’s brilliant 2014 Freedom Hill Pinot is bursting with minty rose oil, Bing cherry and mineral tones. This bright and gripping wine is absolutely everything you’d want from an Oregon Pinot. In fact it’s very Volnay like in the glass with racy fruits, earth, spice and intense detail.
Domaine de Montille may be best known for their reds, but they’ve quietly been making some incredible whites from some of the best vineyards in the Cote d’Or. These are wines that have the minerality that you’d expect from the storied domaine. We just got a bunch of the reds in, as well, (just see the weekend newsletter) but wanted to highlight these new arrivals that tend to fly under the radar.
The hill of Hermitage was the home of a knight seeking solace from the horrors of the Crusades upon his return home. He built a chapel to pray in and that building, the Chapel of Saint Christopher, is the defining marker of the hillside. Jaboulet’s “La Chapelle” is likewise the defining wine of Hermitage for many.
