Bartolo Mascarello’s 2021 Barolo

Founded in 1918, second-generation winemaker Maria-Teresa Mascarello now runs Bartolo Mascarello. Aside from the supreme quality of the wines, this estate is notable for its staunch resistance to the modernist influences on Barolo.

Mascarello avoids the small French oak barriques that would impart oak flavors to the wine and they continue to employ the long, traditional maceration period before maturation in large Slavonian oak botti. The results are elegant wines with poise and finesse. A true must-have for all serious Barolo imbibers.

Arriving Tomorrow:

Bartolo Mascarello Barolo DOCG, Piedmont 2021 750ml $269 pre-arrival special, 12 bottles available
James Suckling 99 points
“A super-complex wine that’s elegant and sleek. The nose shows dried flowers and potpourri, with touches of old-fashioned tar, licorice root and strawberry fruit. Candied orange peel enhances the aromas. Dusty on the palate, with typical nebbiolo tannins, yet it’s ripe, velvety, broad, full-bodied, refreshing and exquisitely balanced. Slightly chocolaty finish with a savory licorice aftertaste. Stunning finesse…”
Audrey Frick-Jeb Dunnuck 98 points “…compared to the 2020 Barolo, which boasts a more pliant and approachable feel upfront, this vintage is more vertical, displaying more tension with a chiseled structure. It has fantastic length on the palate, with lasting mineral persistence and mouthwatering darker fruits coming through on the finish. It’s a stunning wine that will benefit from some cellar time and can be laid down to drink from 2028 to 2058 and beyond, if stored appropriately.”
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 98+ points “…the wine is classic, crisp and linear with present tannins and a very long mouthfeel that continues with freshness and energy. It is terrific now, and we can expect more to come from this epic bottle.”

Oregon

This is the lowest listed price on the West Coast!
Soter Vineyards Planet Oregon ‘Bubbles’ Pinot Noir Rosé, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml $21.90 special, 12 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 90 points “Bright pink in color, this opens with a fragrant, floral aroma and segues to a creamy, fine fizz that’s persistent. Offers candied cherry, pistachio and cherry flavors with a slight sweetness. Charming and quaffable. Certified sustainable. Drink now.”

Beaux Freres The Beaux Freres Vineyard Pinot Noir, Ribbon Ridge 2022 750ml $124.50 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Decanter 97 points
“A gorgeous Pinot Noir, the plantings from 1988 are being replanted as the phyloxerated vines are being removed. This wine shows elegance and grace while maintaining depth and concentration, but make no mistake, it’s built to age. The Beaux Frères Vineyard is clonally diverse with a massale selection of Pommard and Wadenswil and 115. Red fruited aromas and beautiful interplay between bright berries mixed with fresh mint and savoury herbs. The palate remains fresh and elegant, with red-fruited generosity and savoury depth of spearmint and wild anise. (Drink between 2024-2040).”

Bethel Heights Vineyard ‘Casteel’ Reserve Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2022 750ml $75 special, 4 bottles in stock now
Decanter 97 points
“The top cuvée of each vintage is fixed with the family name, Casteel. In 2022 it includes five blocks selected from Lewman Vineyard and the western slopes of Bethel Heights. It’s noteworthy per winemaker Ben Casteel that this wine is not comprised of the oldest vines on the estate but from grafted vines ranging from 26 to 30 years. Concentrated aromatics of dusty rose petals, smoky hoisin sauce and notes of toasted sesame oil. The palate is intense, centred around opaque bramble fruits, there is a muddled strawberry freshness, further carried by spicy chicory root, tart pomegranate, and delicious notes of dried anise. A wine of elegance certainly but with concentration and structure to unwind beautifully over a decade.”

Bethel Heights Justice Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2022 750ml $75 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 95+ points
“The 2022 Pinot Noir Justice Vineyard has layered aromas of pomegranate, blueberry, orange bitters, wildflowers and mossy bark. The medium-bodied palate demands your attention with its concentrated, powerful flavors. Abundant, velvety tannins and bright acidity structures its opulent fruit, and it has a long, luxuriously spicy finish. It will benefit from 3-5 years in bottle.”

Bethel Heights Lewman Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2022 750ml $75 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 96+ points
‘The 2022 Pinot Noir Lewman Vineyard has deep, layered scents of pomegranate, rhubarb, tea leaves, salami and dried flowers. It gains purity as it airs in the glass, and its spicy undertones seem on the precipice of bursting open. The medium-bodied palate features concentrated, spicy flavors structured by powerful, powdery tannins and chiseled acidity, though its fruit is still youthfully coiled. Give it 3-5 years in the cellar to blossom.”

The Eyrie Vineyards Roland Green Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2022 750ml $66 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Erin Brooks-Wine Advocate 94+ points
“The 2022 Pinot Noir Roland Green demands plenty of air to reveal layers of strawberry, cranberry, bergamot and forest floor. The light-bodied palate is much more open at this early stage, offering generous layers of perfumed fruit. It’s structured by powerful, suede-textured tannins and refreshing acidity, and it has a long finish laced with tobacco and floral perfume. This powerful iteration of Roland Green will benefit from long-term cellaring.”

Domaine Huet Vouvray Petillant Brut, Loire 2019 750ml $39 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Rebecca Gibb MW-Vinous 90 points
“The 2019 Brut Vouvray Pétillant is a finely tuned, subtly sparkling wine with a supple, rounded, airy expression. It’s light on its feet with a fine fresh fruit character and delicate, lees-derived almond flavor. A refined tow of acidity flows through on the finish. (Drink between 2024-2035).”

Domaine des Closiers Saumur-Champigny ‘Les Closiers’, Loire 2022 750ml $33 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Yohan Castaing-Wine Advocate 90 points
“The 2022 Domaine des Closiers reveals a delicate, clean bouquet of dark wild berries, spices, violet and spring flowers. Medium-bodied, enrobing and layered, it’s perfectly balanced with powdery tannins and a long, fresh finish. This wine is like the essence of Saumur-Champigny.”

France – Rhone

Saint Cosme ‘Micro-Cosme’ Sauvignon – Viognier, Vin de France 2023 750ml $16 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 90 points
“The 2023 Micro-Cosme Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier is terrific, with a Viognier-dominated style in its apricot and floral aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied, nicely balanced, has a vibrant, lively mouthfeel, and a great finish. It actually reminds me of Guigal’s Côtes du Rhône Blanc, and it’s well worth seeking out, as I suspect it’s a great value.”

Chateau de Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone Les Deux Albion, Rhone 2022 750ml $21.90 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
James Suckling 92 points
“A juicy, pulpy and fruity red, showing plums, currants, herbs and baking spices. Medium-bodied with chalky tannins and texture. Crunchy berry character and more dark cherries to the peppery lift. The flavorful finish has excellent length. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”

“Mixing 70% Grenache with the remainder equally split between Syrah and Mourvèdre, the 2023 Gigondas is full of potential. Redolent orange blossom, raspberry jam, minty shadings and pressed violets are all pushed forward. Engaging the palate with considerable flavor concentration, uplifting freshness and polished tannins, the full-bodied 2023 wraps up with persistence on the delicious conclusion.”

Siro Pacenti PS Vecchie Vigne, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013 750ml $169 special, 4 bottles in stock now
Monica Larner-Wine Advocate 95 points
“Showing more oak definition, texture and overall fruity richness, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne benefits from the concentration and complexity you get with old vines. The wine wraps thickly over the palate, imparting luscious aromas of dried cherry, exotic spice, pressed rose and scorched earth along the way. This is a wine for the cellar. The bouquet has a lot to give, but this will require some extra time. All the elements are there for an excellent aging future. Some 27,000 bottles were produced.”

Siro Pacenti PS Vecchie Vigne, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 750ml $129 special, 13 bottles in stock now
James Suckling 99 points
“Black cherries, lavender, black mushrooms, lead pencil and violets on the nose. Full-bodied with a powerful and polished tannin structure that follows through to the very end. Pure, silky texture. Fascinating aftertaste of ripe fruit, yet it’s fresh and tense. Some orange peel, too. Glorious at the end. So well crafted and pointed. This needs another three to five years to integrate but already extremely impressive.”

Schlosskellerei Gobelsburg Cistercien Rosé, Niederosterreich 2024 750ml $24 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Billy Norris-Vinous 90 points
“The 2024 Rosé Cistercien is a deeply mineral wine. Acids here are driving and persistent, cutting like a tornado across a cornfield. The intensely chalky, rocky minerality is the main attraction, as there’s not much fruit or aromatic expression to speak of. That said, I like this for its distinctiveness and particularly terroir-driven feel–something that is highly unique in the world of Rosé.”

Schlosskellerei Gobelsburg Gruner Veltliner, Kamptal DAC 2024 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles in stock now
“The 2024 Schlosskellerei Gobelsburg Kamptal Grüner Veltliner opens with an intense and vinous bouquet of yellow seed fruits intermingled with saline notes of crushed rocks and green leaves. The wine is round and charming on the textural palate and more supple than the Domæne Veltiner. This is a medium-bodied Kamptal with quite intense and persistent fruit and tender minerality. Fine tannins and bitters make this an excellent, textured food wine. 12.5% stated alcohol.” – Stephan Reinhardt-Wine Advocate

Bodegas Zarate ‘Zarate’ Albarino, Rias Baixas 2024 750ml $24 special, 24 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 93 points
“The nose of the 2024 Zarate shows something savory, with a clear influence from the sea breeze and an almost salty twist in the finish. This is, of course, their flagship Albariño that always shows the character of the year, here very complete, with good ripeness, 13% alcohol and a very balanced mouthfeel. This is clean and precise, harmonious and elegant, with the chalky, slightly grainy finish from the granite soils. It’s superb at this price point.”

Bodegas Ordonez Vatan Tinta de Toro, Toro 2021 750ml $41.90 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Joaquín Hidalgo-Vinous 96 points
“The 2021 Vatan Tinta de Toro opens with aromas of violets, lavender, fresh plum and raspberry, framed by subtle oak and a touch of cedar. Intense and creamy, the palate is broad and flavorful, with velvety, finely textured tannins. The finish is long, delivering depth and nuance. This is a balanced and elegant Tempranillo with a measured profile. Tannins show gentle grip, bringing tension that complements the wine’s volume and richness. A superb vintage that lends this wine exceptional depth.”

Marques de Caceres Crianza, Rioja DOCa 2021 750ml $15.50 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Decanter 90 points
“Spicy on the nose, with aromas of redcurrant, leather and chocolate. Lively and fruit-driven on the palate, very approachable.”

Marques de Caceres Gran Reserva, Rioja DOCa 2016 750ml $29.50 special, 30 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 92 points
“Warm spice and licorice notes lace the chopped cherry, green olive, sweet tobacco and vanilla flavors in this well-balanced red. Lightly chewy, with refined tannins and a minerally, tar-tinged finish. Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta and Graciano. Drink now through 2036. 16,666 cases made, 5,000 cases imported.”

Bodegas Muga Torre Muga, Rioja DOCa 2020 750ml $116 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Jeb Dunnuck 97 points
“Lastly, the 2020 Torre Muga just about jumps out of the glass with its complex red and black fruits, savory flowers, tobacco, lead pencil shavings, and graphite-like aromatics. Plush, full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully balanced, it shows the softer, more rounded style of the vintage and has ripe tannins and a great finish.”

Marques de Murrieta Fica Ygay Reserva, Rioja DOCa, 2020 750ml $29 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 94+ points
“The 2020 Rioja Reserva, their flagship wine, comes from the 300 hectares of estate vineyards. Here, Tempranillo is the backbone, making up 82% of the blend in the low-yielding vintage of 2019, complemented with 8% Graciano, 7% Mazuelo and 3% Garnacha. It has controlled ripeness at 14% alcohol, with a pH of 3.65 and 5.1 grams of acidity. I loved the aromatics here—floral and elegant, more in the style of the 2018 than the 2019. it’s lighter, more elegant, fine-boned and has a silky texture and very fine tannins. Both 2019 and 2020 are very good, but 2020 is more my style. 980,000 bottles produced. It was bottled after 21 months in American oak barrels.”

Bernabeleva Garnacha de Viña Bonita, Madrid 2022 750ml $69 special, 4 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 96 points
“Usually my favorite here, the 2022 Garnacha de Viña Bonita was produced with grapes from the vineyard that produces their most elegant wine, a plot on white granite soils whose grapes fermented with 80% full clusters and a long maceration of six weeks. The élevage was in three used 600-liter barrels. It has a pale and bright ruby color and a complex and intriguing nose with notes of meat broth and decayed violets plus the usual aromatic herbs and spice. The palate has the most elegant tannins of the 2022s, fine-grained and with a chalky and dry sensation in the finish. It has 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.4 and 5.07 grams of acidity. It is delicious and elegant. 2,200 bottles represents the largest production ever from this vineyard. It was bottled in May 2024.”

Bernabeleva Arroyo del Tórtolas, Madrid 2022 750ml $49 special, 7 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 94 points
“The 2022 Arroyo del Tórtolas is a single-vineyard Garnacha from a plot that achieves higher ripeness, and it has the palest color of the 2022s. This is the wine that they consider “wilder,” and it has higher alcohol (15%) but also higher acidity, which compensates for the ripeness. It’s spicy and heady but delicate, juicy and fine-boned, with very fine tannins and a long finish where you notice the warm year. It fermented with 80% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and had a long maceration of more than 60 days. This wine is quite regular year in, year out. It matured in four used 500-liter barrels and is the one where you feel the élevage in the aromas, but nothing excessive. 2,400 bottles produced. There’s also a three-year blend from this plot.”

Clos i Terrasses Clos Erasmus Laurel, Priorat DOCa 2022 750ml $79 special, 12 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 95 points
“The 2022 Laurel has the grapes from the younger vines but still not the ones from Manyetes that will contribute to this wine in 2023 for the first time. This is quite aromatic, young tender and peachy, attractive. She finds this to be a classical vintage, balanced and ripe without excess, and the tannins are polished and elegant. In 2022, they used a little less Cabernet, so the wine is mostly Garnacha, with almost 20% Syrah and perhaps 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. It matured mostly in concrete, oak vats and some 30 barrels, but some 20% of the volume matured in amphorae. She’s not crazy about amphorae; she finds that they close the wines. It’s medium-bodied, has a fine texture and feels elegant and light with a lot of finesse. She doesn’t want too long macerations with the grapes from the younger vines, but it has clout. It comes in at 15% alcohol, has very fine tannins and comes through as balanced and civilized, quite approachable already with mellow acidity. She’s very careful that the tannins don’t have too much astringency. 23,000 bottles were filled in May 2024. Tasted 10 months after bottling, the wine is very drinkable. This is a young wine that is ever changing, with the new vines, and it will change even more in the coming years.”

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand 2024 750ml $21.90 special, 36 bottles in stock now
Erin Larken-Wine Advocate 95 points
“The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc leads with a distinct nose of freshly picked curry leaf, crushed sea shells, lemon zest, asphalt, mustard seed, dried coriander/coriander seed and white flesh orchard fruit. This is powerfully fruited, has great energy and drive and, unsurprisingly, offers great pleasure and satisfying drinking. This is a very smart, savory wine here. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.”

New Sale on Espectacle Del Montsant

René Barbier of Clos Mogador and Espectacle del Montsant can be credited with bringing Priorat out of obscurity. In 1979, he founded a small estate winery, carving terraces into the steep hillsides and planting Garnatxa alongside some French varieties into the unique llicorella soil found in the region. He waited a decade to release his first wine, which was a blend with nine other area producers. His obsession was rewarded when the flagship wine was the first Catalonian wine to achieve “Vi de Finca” status, certifying it as a single-vineyard estate-bottled wine from a notable site with at least five years of production.

In Montsant, the Barbier family, along with friends in the wine industry, founded Espectacle. This estate boasts old Garnatxa vines grown in a centuries-vineyard so steep and impressive that Barbier calls it “L’Ermita of Monsant,” or Hermitage of Montsant.

And they are on sale now at new, lower prices!

Espectacle del Montsant, Montsant 2018 750ml Was $119, Now $108 special, 3 bottles in stock now
Wine Spectator 98 points
“As with other wines, I also tasted the 2018 Espectacle del Montsant next to the 2017 to catch up, as I last tasted the region some 16 months ago. 2018 was a cooler year of slow ripeness, and the grapes achieved an amazing 16% alcohol. The wine is truly spectacular, true to its name. It has tons of violet notes and aromatic herbs, the palate is gentler, and the tannins are rounder, polished and elegant. It has full body but isn’t heavy. There is a lot of complexity, and the wine developed slowly in the glass, showing nuances of cereals, kirsch, orange peel and lots of spices and herbs. It’s opulent and full, deep and complex. Amazing in its style. Some 6,500 bottles produced.”

Espectacle del Montsant, Montsant 2019 750ml Was $125, Now $112 special, 17 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 99 points
“It’s always an exciting moment tasting a new vintage of the wine from one of the most beautiful vineyards in Montsant, and the 2019 Espectacle del Montsant didn’t disappoint. It’s always Mediterranean, heady and ripe, decadent and hedonistic. 2019 was a warm and quite classical vintage in the zone, with good ripeness (the wine’s label lists 15.5% alcohol), and the wine is hedonistic, nuanced and complex, with very good acidity, which is one of the characteristics that makes this vintage so complete. Despite everything, the wine is medium to full-bodied and comes through as perfumed and ethereal. They do long macerations and long aging in foudre. 2019 is a very serious vintage for this wine; it’s a little closed and needs time in the glass, and it’s tight and seamless, a little austere for what this wine usually is. This is truly spectacular.”

Espectacle del Montsant, Montsant 2020 750ml Was $135, Now $112 special, 21 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 97 points
“The 2020 Espectacle del Montsant has 15% alcohol, lower than the two previous vintages despite being a warmer year, and it has power and concentration (from the weather and the low yields from mildew), reaching a good concentration with freshness, which is the key to having a balanced 2020. The wine is floral, and the profile of fruit is more primary. It also has abundant, fine-grained tannins that are going to require some more time in bottle. Espectacle always has the floral expression and the elegance of this unique vineyard in Montsant. Starting in 2022, Christian Barbier, who is leading the regenerative viticulture in the Priorat/Montsant zone, will be in charge of the viticulture here.”

Espectacle del Montsant, Montsant 2021 750ml Was $119, Now $112 special, 21 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 99 points
“The 2021 Espectacle del Montsant has a bright ruby color and a very perfumed and elegant nose with no signs of excess ripeness, with 14.5% alcohol. As 2021 was a much cooler year, the wine is more elegant than ever (following the cooler years like 2014), textured and with very fine tannins. It has an intoxicating nose of red fruit and blood orange, violets and a spicy twist with pungent flavors and a finish that is dominated by violet pastille and is pungent, intense, clean and very long. It’s multi-layered, precise, nuanced and ever-changing in the glass. It has to be one of the most elegant and finest vintages of Espectacle, with the natural freshness from the year. Bravo! There are some 7,500 bottles of this elixir.”

Espectacle del Montsant, Montsant 2022 750ml Was $136, Now $125 special, 22 bottles in stock now
Luis Gutiérrez-Wine Advocate 98 points
“The 2022 Espectacle del Montsant was produced exclusively with Garnacha from an ancient plot in the village of La Figuera in Montsant at more than 600 meters above sea level on limestone and clay soils. The clusters were stored at cool temperature for 24 hours, put through a sorting table and destemmed. The grapes fermented in a new 4,000-liter French oak vat, where it had numerous pump-overs and punch-downs and a four-to-five-week maceration. After pressing, it matured in that same oak vat for 14 to 16 months. This is always a ripe and powerful wine, and in the warm and dry 2022, it’s no exception; it hits 15% alcohol and has a pH of 3.68. Despite everything, the wine has a pale, bright ruby color and the spectacular nose of flowers, wild berries and aromatic herbs. It’s hedonistic, showy and decadent, incredibly fine-boned and elegant, with a fragile characteristic, energetic and profound. You don’t notice the ripeness or alcohol at all. Always explosive and showy, this is a wine that makes heads turn. 5,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2024. Since 2023, this vineyard has been cultivated by Christian Barbier, once the grower that used to cultivate it, Joan Anguera, retired.”

Produttori del Barbaresco Montefico, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $85 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93+ points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico is one of the most searingly tannic wines in the range. Readers will have to be patient with the 2019, as it is going to need time. As always, Montefico is a Barbaresco built on linear intensity more than size. In 2019, the qualities are quite accented. Time in the glass opens the bouquet nicely, but the 2019 remains quite closed.”

Produttori del Barbaresco Montestefano, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 15 bottles in stock now
Produttori del Barbaresco Montestefano, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 1.5L Was $179, Now $169 special, 4 magnums in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 95 points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is perhaps the most complete of the 2019 Riservas at this stage. It offers fine depth, plenty of tannin and nascent emerging inner sweetness to tie it all together. A wine of stature and textural depth, the Montestefano is my early favorite in this lineup.”

Produttori del Barbaresco Muncagota, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $85 special, 6 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93+ points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is shaping up to be gorgeous. The 2019 is marked by a very evident brightness that is not always present. Medium in body and gracious, with terrific balance, the Muncagota is very impressive in this early tasting of the 2019 Riservas. It could turn out to be one of the surprises in this range. Keep an eye on this. “

Produttori del Barbaresco Ovello, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Produttori del Barbaresco Ovello, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 1.5L Was $179, Now $169 special, 3 magnums in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is powerful, savory and intensely linear, in classico Ovello style, and yet it appears to have enough fruit behind its imposing tannins to develop well over the coming years. In this tasting, the Ovello feels pretty closed post bottling, but its inherent balance and qualities are there. Clean saline notes extend the finish in promising fashion.”

Produttori del Barbaresco Pajè, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 14 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is full of character. Strong mineral, savory and floral notes jump out of the glass, before veins of tannin make themselves felt on the palate. A powerful, young Barbaresco, the Pajè is going to need a number of years to come into its own. That said, all of its signatures are very much present. “

Produttori del Barbaresco Pora, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $79 special, 36+ bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 92 points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is a pretty tightly wound wine, certainly moreso than is typically the case for this Barbaresco, which is often much more engaging in the early going. Dried herbs, tobacco, cedar and earthiness lend notable savory nuance in this decidedly nervy, somber Pora. There’s good fruit intensity and plenty of character that makes me want to revisit this in a few months’ time.”

Produttori del Barbaresco Rabajà, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $89 special, 9 bottles in stock now
Produttori del Barbaresco Rabajà, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 1.5L Was $199, Now $189 special, 3 magnums in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 94 points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is redolent of dark fruit, crushed rocks, graphite, sage, menthol and lavender all race across the palate, supported by bracing, young Rabajà tannins that make themselves felt. This mid-weight, powerhouse Barbaresco packs quite a punch.”

Produttori del Barbaresco Rio Sordo, Barbaresco Riserva DOCG 2019 750ml $85 special, 20 bottles in stock now
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 93 points
“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo is quite deep in this vintage, with notable depth in its dark-toned fruit. This is an especially powerful Rio Sordo that is still coming together. Its intensity is palpable, even if I see less of the finesse that I associate with wines from this site. Today, all of the wine’s energy is directed inwards.”
