Evesham Wood & Haden Fig
Russ Raney (which he later changed to Rainey), was a giant in the Oregon wine community.
After studying wine in Germany, he founded the Evesham Wood winery in 1986. He took his inspiration from Burgundy and Alsace, planting Pinot Noir and aromatic white varieties. He was an inspiring figure in the Valley who influenced many folks in the industry.
After working with Russ for several years, Erin Nuccio took over as winemaker and owner in 2010 while developing his own original label, Haden Fig. Under Erin’s stewardship, the already topnotch winery has continued to improve, showcasing the profound terroir of the land.
The estate vineyard, Le Puits Sec, is planted on an east facing slope with iron-rich soils overlooking the Willamette River. It is certified organic and, as a founding member of the Deep Roots Coalition, is dry farmed. The winery is certified organic, too.
While the Evesham Wood wines tend toward elegance and the Haden Fig wines towards more fruit-forward notes, both are expressive examples of their (all dry-farmed) vineyards. Erin’s aim is to continue in the style of minimal intervention at optimal (not over-) ripeness and reduced yields to allow vineyards to express themselves.
Erin Nuccio is doing something harder than founding a revered wine label: keeping and improving the standards that made Evesham Wood famous. We’re proud to carry an extensive lineup from this benchmark estate, as well as gorgeous selections from Haden Fig—all of which are on sale now!

Evesham Wood Le Puits Sec Chardonnay, Eola-Amity Hills 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $36, that’s $34.20 at 5% off and $32.40 at 10% off, 6 bottles in stock now
Decanter 96 points “A mere quarter of an acre of the Puits Sec Vineyard features Chardonnay, located at the top of the site, with these vines planted in 1991. This Chardonnay from Erin Nuccio is a masterclass in texture, a limited production of one and a half barrels, with half of the barrels being younger casks. Light, floral notes mark the subtle aromatics, accompanied by apricot skin and a faint hint of lemon verbena. The palate follows with gorgeous harmony, featuring sweet peaches, lemon cream, and a stunning saline lift, which brings about a seemingly endless finish to this exquisite Chardonnay. (Drink between 2025-2036).”
Evesham Wood La Grive Bleue Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2022 750ml Displayed Price: $39, that’s $37.05 at 5% off and $35.10 at 10% off, 13 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 94 points “The 2022 Pinot Noir La Grive Bleue is distinctly savory. It opens with an herbal thrust of rosemary and sage before evolving into wild blueberries, wilted violets and flowery underbrush. This is youthfully lean and compact, washing across the palate with silken textures and a refined blend of red berries and spice. It tapers off with tense tannins, a firm acid spine and hints of tangerine, leaving the taster completely enamored. Readers should wait another year or two to indulge in this bottle. (Drink between 2026-2032).”
Evesham Wood Cortell Rose Vineyard Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $44, that’s $41.80 at 5% off and $39.60 at 10% off, 11 bottles in stock now
Decanter 95 points “A site at 600 feet of elevation in the Eola-Amity Hills and managed and named for by one of the Willamette Valley’s top viticulturists, Jessica Cortell. Overtly floral aromas of rose and lilac with sandalwood and freshly chopped mint giving plenty of lift. The palate is taut, nervy with bright red cranberries, white pepper and fresh-squeezed Cara Cara orange. Flourishes of savoury herbs and earth linger long on the finish. (Drink between 2025-2035).”

Evesham Wood Illahe Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $38, that’s $36.10 at 5% off and $34.20 at 10% off, 22 bottles in stock now
Eric Guido-Vinous 92-94 points “The 2023 Pinot Noir Illahe Vineyard is vibrant in the glass, mixing sweet lavender and crushed stone with nuances of blood orange and crushed blackberries. Perfumed and lifted, it offers crunchy mineral tones and violet-laced wild berry fruit on the nose. Fine-grained tannins stain the palate as a hint of licorice and tart cherry concentration pinches at the cheeks. Tasted from barrel. (Drink between 2028-2038).”
Evesham Wood Le Puits Sec Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $49, that’s $46.55 at 5% off and $44.10 at 10% off, 22 bottles in stock now
Decanter 96 points “Le Puits Sec is the main estate vineyard at Evesham Wood, planted by founder Russ Rainey in 1986 on its own roots, with additional plantings in 1991 to three different Dijon clone Pinot Noirs. It’s certified organic and dry-farmed. Elegance abounds in the aromatics, with a melange of fresh red berries, blood orange and resonant notes of forest floor. Stunning on the palate with mouthfuls of fresh woodland berry fruits, dashes of savoury mint and soaring notes of fresh cranberry and spicy blood orange. Exotic spices lead the finish with touches of sea salt. (Drink between 2025-2036).”
Evesham Wood Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $44, that’s $41.80 at 5% off and $39.60 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Decanter 96 points “There’s an unmistakable earthen note of crushed chalk, a dead giveaway for Temperance Hill Pinot Noir, and it leaps forward in this stellar bottling from Evesham Wood in the 2023 vintage. Sourced from a two-acre parcel in this higher elevation, Eola-Amity Hills vineyard, cared for by the meticulous and legendary Dai Crisp. Fresh red berries, alpine wild flowers and pine bough with the classic crushed chalk minerality alight the glass. The palate is upright, taut and electric. Cranberries, blood orange and chopped herbs mingle with gleaming salinity and crisp raspberry leaf. (Drink between 2025-2035).”

Haden Fig Chardonnay, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $24, that’s $22.80 at 5% off and $21.60 at 10% off, 17 bottles in stock now
Winery Note “2023 was a curious vintage whose budbreak was 6 weeks late, flowering was within historic averages, and — amazingly! — harvest was right on time. We try to use this wine as our looking glass to figure out what is yet to come from the other HF and EW wines that are still in barrel. We sorted and direct pressed their Chardonnay and let the gross lees settle out overnight before moving the juice to neutral French barrels and third-use tonneau. This bottle strikes out with custard, mirabelle, candied quince, and lemon curd before settling on to the palate with yellow apple, peach and nectarine flesh, and sweet corn ice cream.”

Haden Fig Juliette Chardonnay, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $36, that’s $34.20 at 5% off and $32.40 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Decanter 96 points “Erin Nuccio, one of the most under-the-radar talents in the country, makes some of the Valley’s best wines, which also offer among the best value in the region. The Juliette is from Mahonia Vineyard, which dates to 1985 and includes some of the Willamette’s earliest Dijon clones. A selection of the top Chardonnays, it spends extended time on the lees in neutral oak with no stirring. Intense aromatics of lemon curd, smoky flint and a note of pineapple. High-toned citrus cream flavours, sea spray minerality and dazzling texture frame savoury lemon verbena and lemongrass.</p> (Drink between 2025-2036).”

Haden Fig Cancilla Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $38, that’s $36.10 at 5% off and $34.20 at 10% off, 19 bottles in stock now
Decanter 95 points “Such finery and complexity, the wines of Haden Fig consistently over-deliver. Outlandishly aromatic for such a young wine, there are effusive red fruits, fresh cranberries, and a piquant squeeze of blood orange, alongside wild herbal tones and briny fresh ocean air. The palate is linear and electrifying, with pulsing energy, taut red berries, and sapid wild blue fruits, all set against a core of mineral salinity and dazzling acidity that lifts this wine to tremendous heights. Proof positive that Erin Nuccio is a winemaker’s winemaker. (Drink between 2025-2035).”

Paul Gregutt 94 points “Aromatically dense with plush scents of blackberries and sassafras, the flavors bomb the palate with more of the same and black plum (skin and flesh), mocha and clean earth. A cascade of layered and balanced highlights, instantly appealing yet structured to age. Jessica Cortell is a much-admired vineyard manager and this fruit is from her own vineyard.”

Haden Fig Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2023 750ml Displayed Price: $38, that’s $36.10 at 5% off and $34.20 at 10% off, 8 bottles in stock now
Decanter 96 points “Freedom Hill is arguably the flagship site of the Mt Pisgah appellation, embraced by Evesham Wood’s Erin Nuccio, Walter Scott and others. Planted in 1982 on southeast-facing slopes, it is responsible for some fantastic Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. This wine offers gorgeous florals, pine bough, and chopped mint leaves on the nose. Layers of berry fruits, clove spice and tingly notes of Szechuan peppercorn. A brilliantly mineral finish lingers for seemingly ever. (Drink between 2025-2037).”
