Superb Il Poggione Brunelli Pre-Arrival offers:

Arriving tomorrow:
Il Poggione Vigna Paganelli, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2006 750ML ($119.95) $89 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 97 points “The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is huge, powerful and totally implosive. The seductive allure of the 2007 is nowhere to be found. Instead, the 2006 is built on a serious spine of formidable tannin and dark red/black fruit. Hints of tar, licorice, rose petals and tobacco inform the powerful, virile finish. The 2006 is going to require considerable patience, but it is clearly a jewel of a wine, even at this early stage. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2046.”

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 ($99.95) $78 pre-arrival special
#4 WINE SPECTATOR TOP 100 WINES OF 2015
Wine Advocate 98 points “The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a striking wine that shows uncompromising varietal pureness, albeit in a most concentrated and elaborate form. This is what great Sangiovese is all about. There’s so much happening on the nose and the wine brings you to cherry, spice, licorice, cured meat, pressed rose and grilled meat in equal measure. No one element overpowers the next. The mouthfeel is also tight and bright with the kind of fruit intensity that promises long cellar aging. This Brunello is only at the beginning of a long road ahead. The longer the wine stays in the glass, the more it offers in terms of complexity and intensity. This is a true standout that can be enjoyed for up to 20 years ahead.”

Arriving February 2016:
Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 1.5L ($199.95) $179 pre-arrival special

Il Poggione Vigna Paganelli, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2010 1.5L ($249.95) $219 pre-arrival special
James Suckling 97 points “The aromas to this Brunello riserva are stunning with subtle forest fruits, orange peel and mushrooms. Full body, very fine tannins and a long and persistent finish. The flavors are so complex with earth and dark fruits. Very fine and dusty tannins. Drink or hold.”
Antonio Galloni 94-96 points “A dark, intensely brooding wine, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Paganelli bursts from the glass with an exotic tapestry of lavender, menthol, smoke, plums, tar, smoke and licorice, all framed by huge, massive tannins. There is plenty of fruit though, which suggests, the 2010 is going to age effortlessly for several decades. The Riserva won’t be released until next year, but it should not be opened until it is at least 10-12 years old, and even then it is likely to be a strapping youngster.” AG

New Arrivals

OREGON
Whistling Dog Estate Dijon Blocks Pinot Noir 2013 750ml ($19.95) $16.60 special
Winemaker’s note: This growing season is starting early, and uniform across the vineyard. It is one of the earliest starts in the past few years, second only to 2010 when budbreak occurred on March 28. We had a warmer than normal dormancy, with all months but January averaging a degree or two above normal. Rainfall-wise, October through December was significantly wetter than normal, while January through March was significantly dryer than normal; overall rainfall during dormancy was about three inches less than normal.

Wine Enthusiast 91 points “A classic Napa Valley Chardonnay, this is smooth, rich, balanced and well composed. Flowery aromas of honeysuckle open the way for lemon curd and ripe apple to compete with a depth of crème brûlée character that provides plenty of complexity, with additional accents of honey and spice.”

WASHINGTON
Woodward Canyon Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 750ML ($119.95) $89 special
Wine Advocate 95 points “The biggest, most rich, mineral-laced and massive wine in the portfolio, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines gives up lots of currants, charcoal, smoke earth and chocolate to go with a full-bodied, concentrated, structured and backward profile. This has lots of oak, lots of tannin, and lots of potential, but it should only be purchased by patient consumers. Give it 5-7 years and enjoy bottles over the following two decades. This is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot, mostly from the crème de la crème Champoux Vineyard, which spent 21 months in 100% new French oak. It’s up with the top wines of the vintage and readers looking for a classic, serious and age-worthy Bordeaux blend from Washington need look no further.” WA

FRANCE – CHAMPAGNE
Champagne Hebrart Cuvee Reserve Premier Cru Brut NV 750ML ($29.95) $24 special
Champagne Hebrart Cuvee Reserve Premier Cru Brut NV 375ML ($49.95) $36.60 special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 91 points “(77% Pinot Noir and 23% Chardonnay; 8.2 g/l dosage; disgorged in March, 2014): Bright straw. Lively, mineral-driven aromas of fresh citrus fruits, melon and white flowers. Musky, nicely concentrated orchard and pit fruit flavors are given spine by juicy acidity, which adds cut to the back half. The floral quality repeats on the finish, which hangs on with strong stony persistence. Give this youthful Champagne a little air time, or even decant it, like the cool French and French-wannabe sommeliers often do.” JR

Case-6 G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge Brut NV 750ML ($279.95) $149 special (that’s only $24.08/bottle!)
Wine Spectator 92 points “Toast and dried fruit notes mix in this very harmonious dry Champagne, which is full of flavor—dried apricot, candied orange peel, nut and smoke—but still elegant and light-weight. The rich, toasty note lingers on the vibrant finish.”

Ulysse Collin ‘Les Pierrieres’ Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, Champagne NV (’11) 750ML ($99.95) $89 special
Importer’s note: “Les Pierrières,” a vineyard near Congy, faces south/southeast. The topsoil is clay-limestone with only 10-50 cm depth. Subsoil or bedrock is composed of soft chalk and black flint carbonate (onyx). The combination of these two elements is rare in Champagne and contributes to the singularity of the Ulysse Collin champagnes. The vines are seleccion massale with an average age of 35 years. Plowing of the vineyard began in 2003 in order to encourage the growth of microbial life. AB certified organic compost is used when needed. Each row in the vineyard alternates between natural grass and tilled soil. Protection of plant life is mixed, both conventional and organic. No herbicide is applied in the vineyard. Alcoholic fermentation occurs naturally in small oak barrels over 6-8 months. The barrel aging takes on average 12 months. The wine underwent no filtration. Each year, an average of 12,000 bottles is produces from this plot. The aging on lees in the bottle has increased gradually from 24 to 36 months and contributes to the nose, and enhances the wine’s complexity and fullness of flavor. Only Extra Brut (little or no dosage, depending on the vintage) is made from Les Pierrières in order to maintain the most accurate expression of the terroir. The mention of the vintage and the disgorgement date is shown on the label.”

Ulysse Collin ‘Les Roises’ Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, Champagne NV (’11) 750ML ($119) $99 special
Importer’s note: “Collin’s NV (2008) Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Roises is a new wine from a parcel that he has regained control over after a period of selling the grapes. Here the deep, clay-rich soils yield a Chardonnay of extraordinary depth, breadth and volume. Juicy apricots, dried pears, honey, spices, almonds, orange, dried flowers and savory herbs all take shape as this full-bodied, voluptuous Champagne shows off its inimitable personality. Despite its richness, the 2008 boasts stunning depth and fabulous overall balance. Power and elegance have rarely been this compelling. What a gorgeous wine! Dosage was just 0.85 grams per liter. This bottle was disgorged on March 5, 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Olivier Collin’s estate is practically in the middle of nowhere, but it is well worth a visit. Collin crafts beguiling, totally fascinating Champagnes from his tiny facility in the sleepy town of Congy. The wines are fermented and aged in barrel (with some less stirring) and bottled without fining or filtration. These remain some of the most unique and thrilling wines being made in Champagne. There is little question Collin’s wines are now on the same level as those of his mentor, Anselme Selosse.”

Polished, textured and ready to go, I suspect it’s best consumed over the coming couple of years.”
Wine Enthusiast 88 points “This is a rich wine, ripe with yellow fruits. It is full bodied, peaches and pears giving a smooth, rounded character. Almonds and apple skins give texture to the wine that is ready to drink. — R.V. (12/1/2015)”

Pierre Chermette Beaujolais 2014 750ML ($17.95) $14 special

Medium-bodied on the palate with lively acidity, yet also good ripeness, it’s a forward, delicious red meant for near term consumption.” JD

Medium-bodied, elegant, and structured with a tight, energetic vibe, it should drink nicely through at least 2022.” JD

Wine Advocate 89 points “Meaning “heart of the harvest,” the 2014 Beaujolais Coeur de Vendanges comes from a parcel or 105-year-old vines in Vaux-en-Beaujolais (also known as Clockemerle), and another even older parcel in Saint Vérand. It is a beautiful Beaujolais that has pretty and perfumed notes of dark berry fruits, smoked earth, pepper and licorice. Medium-bodied, elegant and with integrated acidity and a terrific finish, it’s a no brainer at the price and should drink well through 2022.” J

Pierre-Marie Chermette Domaine du Vissoux Fleurie les Garants 2014 750ML ($27.95) $24 special
Case-12 Pierre-Marie Chermette Domaine du Vissoux Fleurie les Garants 2014 750ML ($279.95) $239 special (that’s only $19.92/bottle!)
Winery note “The area called Les Garants is one of the Fleurie appellation area’s most noble granitic terroirs. Very well sited (south-west facing) and harvested at full ripeness, the grapes from these vines give a concentrated cuvée. The result, in the mouth, is dense and long, foretelling of really good cellaring potential. The fruit is intense, lively and ‘sappy’. A cuvée worthy of being called “Queen of Beaujolais”!”

Case-12 Georges Duboeuf Morgon 2014 750ML ($179.95) $149 special (that’s only $12.42/bottle!)
Wine Advocate 90 points “The 2014 Morgon Flower Label, the bottles sporting their “Medaille d’Or Coucours Générale Agricole de Paris” stickers, has a smudged strawberry and blackcurrant-scented nose with a hint of wild hedgerow developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, an engaging spiciness from the start continuing throughout. This is a linear but energetic Morgon with pleasing cracked pepper notes sprinkled over the aftertaste. This is very fine.” NM

Georges Duboeuf Jean Claude Debeaune Morgon Belles Grives 2014 750ML ($17.95) $14 special

Wine Advocate 90 points “The 2014 Morgon Belles Grives has a more taciturn nose compared to Duboeuf’s other 2014 Morgons, so be patient with it, since it reveals traces of blackcurrant and kirsch with time, all nicely defined but constantly demanding coaxing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-balanced and focused, with cracked black pepper enlivening the structured finish. Don’t be afraid to give this a little decanting before pouring.” NM

Georges Duboeuf Domaine Mont Chavy Morgon 2014 750ML ($17.95) $14 special
Case-12 Georges Duboeuf Domaine Mont Chavy Morgon 2014 750ML ($179.95) $149 special (that’s only $12.42/bottle!)
Wine Advocate 90 points “The 2014 Morgon Domaine Mont Chavy was cropped at 45 hectoliters per hectare this year. It has a precise red cherry and bergamot-scented nose that unfurls in the glass. The palate is juicy and quite dense – thick tannin shrouded in lightly spiced redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit that lead to a sharp, nicely focused finish that demonstrates fine backbone. This is probably the best from Georges Duboeuf this year. Very fine.” NM

Wine Advocate 89-91 points “The 2014 Moulin-à-Vent Domaine des Rosiers, which sees a judicious 15% oak barrel aging, has a precocious and lively bouquet of maraschino cherry, cola and mineral scents that are nicely defined and feminine. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity and harmony with a mineral-driven finish that leaves the mouth tingling. This is just lovely.” NM
FRANCE-BURGUNDY
Domaine Jean Collet Montee de Tonnerre, Chablis Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($31.95) $28 special
Stephen Tanzer–Vinous 92 points “(like the Mont de Milieu, this was bottled in February of 2015): Bright yellow. Tangy orange peel and lime zest aromas are enlivened by fresh minerality; clearly the coolest and most classic of these rather exotic 2013s. Still plenty ripe but with real éclat and energy to the juicy citrus and dusty mineral flavors. With its tactile, rising finish, this premier cru transcends the vintage.” ST

Domaine Jean Collet Valmur, Chablis Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Winery note “On the right bank of the Serein River, the Valmur is situated in the center of the Grands Crus area (divided into 7 named vineyard sites). Its identity is made up from the depth of its clay limestone soils over a mark base, named “Kimmeridgian.” The ground is heavy and strewed with small fossilized oysters: “Exogyra Virgula.” This area has a West exposure and is situated in a deep valley, with high temperatures in the summer. Slow to age, our Grand Cru Valmur begins to open up between 5 to 8 years, but could age longer under proper conditions.”

Stephen Tanzer–Vinous 93 points “(began in 100% one-, two- and three-year-old barrels, then finished in cuve): Classic aromas of underripe pineapple, mint and wet stone. At once large-scaled and fine-grained, showing terrific intensity to its crunchy citrus and saline flavors. Conveys an impression of density without weight, thanks to its energy. (These vines face full west and ripen late.) At once pliant and filled in, finishing elegant, seamless and long, with a vibrating crushed-stone character.” ST

Case-12 Domaine Lafage ‘Tessellae’ Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2013 750ML ($219.95) $179 special
Wine Advocate 94 points “A custom cuvee and joint venture with importer Eric Solomon, the 2013 Tessellae Vieilles Vignes is 100% Carignan and comes from 70-year-old vines and the schist soils of Maury and Les Aspres. It is an off-the-charts value that offers up thrilling notes of black raspberry, chocolate, graphite, tar and licorice to go with a voluptuous, decadent, yet seamless and gorgeously pure feel on the palate. Seriously, this wine is smoking good and should thrill for 4-5 years, if not longer. Just pretend you paid more for it.”

Antonio Galloni 92+ points “The 2010 Barolo Bussia Dardi/Le Rose from Poderi Colla emerges from the glass with dried rose petals, licorice, tobacco, mint, dried cherries, plums and coffee beans, all super-classic Nebbiolo scents. Beguiling and layered in the glass, the 2010 continues to open up beautifully over time, I can’t wait to see how it ages. At the same time, the 2010 is medium in body and surprisingly supple. Will it put on weight in bottle? Only time will tell. Today, the 2010 is young, young, young.” AG

ITALY-TUSCANY
Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 750ML ($79.95) $69 special
Wine Enthusiast 97 points “Multifaceted fragrances suggest violet, rose, red berry, baking spice, savory herb and a balsamic note. Elegant with great intensity, the radiant palate delivers juicy wild cherry, crushed berry, cinnamon and a note of star anise alongside a backbone of assertive, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. It’s a gorgeous wine with breeding and class that needs time to bloom fully. Drink 2020–2035.” WE
Antonio Galloni 95 points “Dark red cherries, mint, sage, tobacco, licorice and new leather blossom in Il Marroneto’s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. Savory and lifted in the glass, the 2010 possesses stunning overall balance and tons of nuance. The tannins are firm and incisive, yet also remarkably polished. Ideally, readers should cellar the 2010 for at least a few years, but it is going to be very hard to resist the temptation of drinking the 2010 young.” AG

GERMANY
Donnhoff Grosses Gewachs 6-Pack 2014 750ml ($419.95) $379 special
2 bottles each of the 3 Grosses Gewachs bottlings from 2014:
Dellchen, Felsenberg, and Hermannshohle
Terry Theise notes “All of these had remarkable aspects and potentials but none of them was ready to rock. Felsenberg has tremendous aroma, almost fiercely smoky, with lemon and Indonesian peppers. Dellchen is fleshier but also, as is its wont, more inscrutable. Hermannshöhle was still on its first lees but was already showing depth and fragrance. If my “plusses” matter to you, and if I let myself prognosticate, it’s two for Felsenberg and Hermannshöhle and one for Dellchen. The wines will surely make a fool of me.”

Peter Lauer Fass 8 Ayler Kupp Kabinett, Mosel 2014 750ML ($37.95) $31.90 special
John Gilman 91-92 points ‘The 2014 Ayler Kupp Kabinett from Florian Lauer is really a lovely and quite classic example of this Prädikat, with lovely acidity and minerality providing a fine filigree to the wine and a nice sense of reserve out of the blocks as well. The very classy nose wafts from the glass in a mix of green apple, tart orange, slate, lovely smokiness and a touch of dried flowers in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, pure and focused, with a good core, bright acids, a nice touch of sweetness on the attack and lovely length and grip on the elegant and nascently complex finish. This is quite approachable now, but still a touch primary, and I would be inclined to give it at least a few years in the cellar to develop its secondary layers of complexity. 2019-2035+.” JG

Peter Lauer Ayler Kupp Fass 7 Riesling Spatlese, Mosel 2014 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Stephan Reinhardt – Wine Advocate 93-94 points “Precise on the nose and excitingly precise the 2014 Kupp Spätlese Fass 7 is pure and slate-like on the nose and offers a very delicate and coolish Riesling aroma. Medium to full-bodied, lush and intense on the palate this elegant textbook Spätlese does not lose its mineral precision and finesse because it was only made by overripe but not botrytisized berries. This is a great Saar Spätlese and a must buy of the vintage.”

Peter Lauer Ayler Kupp Fass 10 Riesling Auslese, Mosel 2014 750ML ($79.95) $69 special
Mosel Fine Wines “This offers a great and superbly aromatic nose of orange blossom, tangerine and yellow peach, all wrapped into a blanket of papaya. Fine acidity, paired with a touch of CO2 at this early stage, make the wine shine. The mid-palate is juicy and mouth-coating with plenty of ripe and exotic fruits and yet the finish is focused and fresh. This is quite a superb Auslese in the making. 2022-2034″

John Paul and his new release of Cameron Wines– Arriving Tomorrow

Cameron Winery ‘Abbey Ridge’ Chardonnay, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML ($81.95) $66 pre-arrival special
Winemaker’s note: Our oldest vineyard is Abbey Ridge located high in the Dundee Hills at an elevation range of 500-700 feet. The first vines were planted here in 1976 and, as some of the oldest vines in Oregon, they produce some of Cameron’s finest wines.
Vinopolnote: A nod to Chablis here, with lemon rind and tart apple flavors. Very fresh and round, with nice minerality to compound the touch of weight on the palate. My, will this will age wonderfully…

Cameron Clos Electrique Blanc, Dundee Hills 2013 750ML ($81.95) $66 pre-arrival special
Winemaker’s note: “Clos Electrique is farmed organically which means that we use elemental sulfur during the growing season to prevent growth of powdery mildew and use copper hydroxide and leaf removal in the vicinity of grape clusters to inhibit botrytis. Insect pests are generally kept in check by cultivation of predatory insects with integrated cover crops. This is one of the warmer vineyard sites in the Red Hills of Dundee and usually is harvested during the second half of September. Yields of the “blanc” generally yields 2.0 tons per acre (27 hl/hectare).
Vinopolnote: Wow. Honeysuckle, citrus, tarragon, and honey cover the palate while remaining lively and buoyant. Layered and charming, maintaining a balance between force and elegance.

Cameron Winery ‘Abbey Ridge’ Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML ($81.95) $66 pre-arrival special
Winemaker’s note: “At Abbey Ridge only organic sprays are used on the grapes. Moisture levels in the soil of this non-irrigated vineyard are managed by a rotating system of cover crops and tilled (or clean cultivated) areas. By adjusting mowed height of the cover crops relative to rainfall, appropriate quantities of water can be retained in the soil for the vines. The older vines have extremely deep roots to take advantage of moisture there during the dry, late summer months.”
Vinopolnote: Cranberry and spice and everything nice! Lighter bodied with more pronounced acid than Clos, with plenty of savory minerals and fleshy red fruit. Quite the contender for Thanksgiving!

Cameron Winery Clos Electrique Rouge, Willamette Valley 2013 750ML($81.95) $66 pre-arrival special
Winemaker’s note: “(At Clos Electrique,) Each block of vines is planted to multiple clones. This technique increases the complexity of the resulting wines as well as giving the vineyard great resilience in the face of various of climatic and biological impediments. Most of the Pinot noir clones were planted in 1984 though some have been added along the way.”
Vinopolnote: We fought, with all our might, to not spit the wine when we first tasted a few afternoons ago. So much depth here, all in harmony, with tamarind and cherries meeting blood orange and spices. It drinks well now and will drink well down the road. Will be hard to resist, let alone share…

Cameron Nebbiolo, Dundee Hills 2011 750ML ($39.95) $29 pre-arrival special
Winemaker’s note: “In 1994 we planted a small experimental row of 2 different clones of Nebbiolo. Our thinking was that Barolo/Barbaresco lie on the 45th parallel and besides nebbiolo they are one of the few locales in the world where hazelnuts (nocciolo) grow. We cleared an orchard of hazelnuts to plant our vineyard. By 1999 we were convinced that we could in fact successfully grow nebbiolo here and so started grafting and planting. By 2003 we had planted a half-acre and by 2006 we were able to produce our first commercial batch of nebbiolo. Since we have adopted the long aging regimen typical of Barolo and Barbaresco, our first nebbiolo was not released until Fall of 2010. Thus 2007 is slated to be available in Fall of 2011. Quantities are extremely small at this point.”
Vinopolnote: Lighter than previous vintages, but still so full of character and pretty aromatics. Brick-red, with more than enough acid alongside the fistful of earth, kitchen spice, and dark red fruit it delivers.

Champagne Special Picks 2015

As gifts or as guests,
our very favorites of the moment –
at the lowest listed price!

Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2009 750ML ($119.95) $99 special, 33 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “The 2009 Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons is remarkably polished and balanced throughout, with plenty of vintage 2009 radiance. Apricot pit, smoke, peach and spice overtones take shape in a striking Champagne. Although quite open and expressive today, the 2009 is also holding back a considerable amount of pure, unbridled power as well as potential. Ripe and racy to the core, yet with no excess weight, the 2009 stands out for its exceptional balance. Dosage was 4.7 grams per liter, a bit higher than normal. Péters told me he thought the drier vintage needed a little bit more sugar.” AG

Larmandier-Bernier Terre de Vertus Blanc de Blancs Non-Dose Premier Cru 2009 750ML ($69.95) $57 special, 21 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “Rich and explosive to the core, the 2009 Blanc de Blancs Terre de Vertus races across the palate with tons of depth and power. Dried apricots, honey, wild flowers and anise all blossom in the glass, but the 2009 is first and foremost a wine of structure. A creamy, textured finish rounds things out nicely. The combination of a ripe year and the non-dosage style work beautifully. The Terre de Vertus emerges from the Les Barillers and Les Faucherets lieux-dits. The Terre de Vertus is non-dosé” AG

Michel Turgy Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut, Champagne 2005 750ML ($79.95) $66 special, 23 bottles available
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 92 points “Vivid yellow. Musky pear, yellow apple and anise scents are complemented by hints of chamomile and smoky minerals. Fleshy and focused on the palate, offering pliant orchard and pit fruit flavors and a touch of anise. A subtle underpinning of minerality carries through a long, sappy finish that leaves gingery spice and floral notes behind.” JR

Alfred Gratien Brut 1998 750ML ($199.95) $159 special, 6 bottles available
Wine Advocate 94 points “A relatively rich, broad shouldered wine, the 1998 Brut Millesime is showing beautifully. Here the aromas and flavors have begun to develop the early hints of tertiary complexity, making the 1998 a great choice for drinking today. Suggestions of white truffles, apricot jam, hazelnuts, hard candy and dried flowers wrap around the gorgeous, striking finish. The 1998 is 60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.” WA

Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque – Fleur de Champagne Brut Millesime 2007 750ML ($219.95) $99 special, 35 bottles available

Nicolas Maillart Brut Nature Zero Dosage NV 750ML ($59.95) $49 special, 36 bottles available
90 points Wine Enthusiast “Yes, it’s dry, very dry. However, this well-made wine with its steely texture and tight character just needs some bottle age to give it the richness that is missing at the moment. It would be good with food now; give it at least a year in bottle after purchase to be even better.” WE

Domaine Bart – Arriving in December

Domaine Bart Marsannay Chardonnay Musque Les Favieres 2013 750ML ($29.95) $26 pre-arrival special

This is the only listing in the USA today!

Domaine Bart Bourgogne Rouge 2013 750ML ($24.95) $21.90 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 89 points “Black cherry, floral and earth flavors are married to a rich texture, underlined by vibrant acidity and light tannins. Fine length. Drink now through 2018” WS

Domaine Bart Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Cote de Nuits 2013 750ML ($179.95) $159 pre-arrival special
Burghound 92-94 points “Here the layered nose is much more restrained with more subtle spice elements on the aromas of green tea, plum and floral scents. The powerful and concentrated flavors possess a robust and muscular mouth feel though without any overt rusticity before terminating in a mouth coating and almost painfully intense finish. This will also need at least 8 to 10 years of cellar time first though like the Bèze it should be capable of amply rewarding 12 to 15.” BH

This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!

Domaine Bart Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 2013 750ML ($199.95) $169 pre-arrival special
Burghound 92-94 points “An exuberantly spicy nose combines notes of plum, dark currant, violets and underbrush. There is terrific intensity and a lovely minerality to the ripe and well-delineated medium weight plus flavors that are shaped by firm but not hard tannins on the balanced, long and impressively complex finale. This should drink well after 8 to 10 years of bottle age though it is unlikely to reach its full peak until 12 to 15 years have passed.” BH

The next best price is $175.99

Domaine Bart Fixin 2013 750ML ($39.95) $33 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 90 points “Candied cherry, raspberry, licorice and mineral flavors mark this succulent style. Though elegant, this shows depth and fine length. Best from 2016 through 2023. 200 cases made.”

Domaine Bart Les Hervelets, Fixin Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($59.95) $49 pre-arrival special
Burghound 89-91 points “A softly spicy nose displays notes of plum, violets and plenty of earth. The rich, round and delicious middle weight flavors are finer than those of the Fixin villages though here too there is a note of rusticity on the balanced, persistent and focused finale. This is worth checking out as well, particularly for value.” BH

Domaine Bart “Les Grands Vignes” Marsannay Rouge 2013 750ML ($31.95) $28 pre-arrival special
Burghound 89-91 points “Outstanding top value. Reduction presently dominates the nose and renders it unreadable. By contrast there is good punch and freshness to the velvety and very round medium-bodied flavors that also possess plenty of structure-buffering sap before concluding in a persistent and impressively complex finish. This concentrated and serious effort should age very well and is recommended.” BH

Domaine Bart “La Montagne” Marsannay Rouge 2013 750ML ($31.95) $28 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 90 points “Austerity gets the upper hand for now, delivering muted cherry, currant and mineral notes. Though pure and long, this red stays tensile and unyielding, with a chalky feel on the finish. Best from 2018 through 2028. 125 cases made.”

Domaine Bart “Les Ouzeloy” Marsannay Rouge 2013 750ML ($29.95) $24 pre-arrival special
Wine Spectator 90 points “Rich, with black cherry, black currant, violet and mineral flavors, this is flavorful and smooth. The vibrant structure and fine harmony carry through the long finish. Best from 2017 through 2027. 75 cases made.”

Wines for Thanksgiving
Farm to Shop to Table

White Wines from Oregon for Thanksgiving:

Belle Pente ‘Belle Pente Vineyard’ Chardonnay, Yamhill-Carlton District 2010 750ML ($29.95) $26.60 special, 16 bottles available
Winery note “Our 100% Estate Grown Chardonnay comes from a little 2 acre parcel planted in 1999. In keeping with our normal practice, we divided the block into an “early” and a “late” picking, harvesting half of the grapes on October 14th and the balance on October 22nd. The earlier harvest date allows us to maintain good natural acidity in the wines, and the second provides more developed and nuanced flavors and aromas. Blending the two lots together allows us to achieve complex, balanced wines every year. With the cool growing season, the alcohol came in at 13%, and even with a complete malolactic fermentation, the wine is bright, fresh, and lively. We have pioneered the use of Oregon oak in Chardonnay, deploying them 50/50 with French oak barrels for over 10 years. The wines are 100% barrel fermented, but with very modest use of new oak, typically in the 10-15% range. At almost 4 years from vintage, this wine is beginning to hit it’s prime. Enjoy now and over the next six years with rich white fish dishes, baked mac and cheese, fresh pesto, and dozens of other white and green foods!”

Vincent Pinot Blanc 2014 750ML ($21.95) $18 special, 11 bottles available
Winery note “Starting in 2014, our Pinot blanc comes from an unnamed vineyard outside of Newberg, OR, farmed by the Vineyard Brothers, three hardworking brothers and their crew that look after a few very high quality sites around the northern Willamette Valley.”

Swick Wines Cancilla Vineyard Blanc de Noir, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($24.95) $19 special, 3 bottles available
Winemaker’s note “Inspired by 3 years working in Tasmania and Yarra Valley Australia making sparkling wines; I wanted to make Blanc de Noir as a still wine from a high acid site. Cancilla Vineyard is organically farmed by my friend Ken Cancilla in Cherry Grove, Oregon near Gaston. Very close to the ocean. Gently pressed to barrel without settling; fermented and aged in neutral French oak for 8 months on its original lees without battonage. Bottled directly from barrel. 66 cases made.”

Westrey Justice Vineyard Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills ($39.95) $33 special, 36 bottles available
Winery note “Justice is located in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA next to Bethel Heights Vineyard. At an elevation of around 500 feet, the vine rows face due south on Nekia soil with a sedimentary subsoil. Showing the weight and brilliant color that is typical of the 2013 vintage, this wine explodes from the glass. On the nose one is invited to taste through aromas of marionberry, raspberry, red-current, earth, and a hint of a floral note. The entry shows big berry fruit, with excellent weight and a refined structure. As the roots continue deeper into the sedimentary subsoil, the fruit expression of Justice has moved toward darker fruit and notes of mineral and chalk. This six-barrel lot had one new barrel, two one-year-old barrels with the balance neutral wood. It was racked once in the spring of 2014 with inert gas after an indigenous malo-lactic. We bottled it unfined and unfiltered at the end of September 2014 after 12 months in oak. 147 cases produced.”

Crowley La Colina Vineyard Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2010 750ML ($79.95) $66 special, 17 bottles available
Wine Advocate 90 points “A Crowley 2010 Pinot Noir La Colina – from the eponymous site at 700 foot elevation near the southwestern edge of the Dundee Hills, planted with Pommard and Wadenswil selections – offers tart-edged fresh elderberry accented with nutmeg and blond tobacco on a lean but polished, bright, and downright succulent palate. A sweet, saline mineral suffusion akin to shrimp shell reduction conveys satisfying saliva-inducement to a lingering finish in this deliciously fascinating, in some respects rather white wine-like Pinot Noir that should prove intriguing as well as versatile over at least the next half dozen years.”DS

Belle Pente Estate Reserve Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton District 1.5L 2011 ($99.95) $89 special, 5 magnums available
Stephen Tanzer 93 points “Brilliant ruby-red. Smoke- and spice-accented aromas of blackberry, cherry-cola and fresh lavender, with a hint of spicecake in the background. Silky, seamless and expansive, displaying intense red and dark berry flavors and a hint of allspice. Puts on weigh with aeration while maintaining vivacity. The mineral and floral qualities build on the persistent finish, which is firmed by fine-grained, harmonious tannins.” ST
Wine Advocate 92 points “The 2011 Pinot Noir Estate Reserve is a vineyard parcel and barrel selection. It was picked October 27 at 22 Brix and 100% de-stemmed, undergoing 45% new French oak. It has quite a dense bouquet with plenty of raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit that is well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin. There is plenty of backbone here, but it is very focused and harmonious with superb tension on the finish. This is an excellent contribution to the vintage—one of the best of Belle Pente’s current releases and well worth hunting down.”

Bow & Arrow Rhinestone Red, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($24.95) $21.90 special, 12 bottles available

Bow & Arrow Gamay Noir, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($21.95) $18 special, 18 bottles available
Vinopolnote: A juicy and textural Gamay which makes references to the highly drinkable Gamays of Touraine.

Day “Johan Vineyard” Pinot Noir 2014 750ML ($29.95) $26 special, 10 bottles available
Winemaker’s note “Johan Vineyard is a certified Biodynamic site in the new proposed “Perrydale Hills” AVA. This was my last Pinot pick of 2014 as the site ripens later than most of the Willamette Valley due to proximity to the coast and the Van Duzer corridor. The fruit was brought in, destemmed and fermented without the use of lab-created yeast or sulfur. It was aged in 10 percent new French oak and 90 percent neutral. It was racked twice and bottled unfiltered and unfined on July 15th 2015. 13% ABV.”

J. Christopher ‘Sandra Adele’ Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills 2013 750ML ($49.95) $41.90 special, 36 bottles available
Winery note “The J. Christopher Sandra Adele Pinot Noir is a cuvée named for Jay’s mother, Sandy. It is a blend of wines from two outstanding vineyards in the Dundee Hills AVA: Abbey Ridge and Charlie’s Vineyard. Simply gorgeous, this is both dark and bright in the aroma, intense and delicate on the palate. As is typical of this cuvée, it combines an earthy depth with an ethereal, floral lightness. It is delicate and fine, with the firm juicy acidity of the vintage, and a long, captivating finish. 110 cases produced”

Casa Grand Selection Chardonnay comes from the breezy, coastal Casablanca Valley, which has cool and dry summers, allowing the Chardonnay to ripen slowly and maintain its natural acidity. Hand-harvesting at night enhances the fruitiness and crispness of the grapes, and also helps reduce the use of energy at the winery. Casa Grand Selection Chardonnay is satisfying on its own, and also goes well with many seafood dishes and white meat.”

Case-12 Alvaro Palacios ‘Les Terrasses’ Velles Vinyes, Priorat DOCa 2012 750ML ($419.95) $359 special, 5 cases available

This dense, full-bodied, opulent red reveals gutsy, rich, peppery, meaty, blackberry, blackcurrant and licorice notes. A savory, lusty, heady red, it begs for a grilled steak or a big, juicy hamburger. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.” RP
