Wine Advocate 93+ points “Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Bella’s Garden Shiraz has a nose of blackberry preserves and warm cassis with hints of menthol, dark chocolate, cardamom and cedar. Full-bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, the abundant fruit is well matched by firm, rounded tannins and refreshing acid before finishing with great length. Drink it now to 2024+.”

Featured New Arrival
Turley Wine Cellars

Turley are one of those producers who could make as much wine as they’d like and still have people thirsty for it. Known for their gorgeous single-varietal zinfandels, the wines are hugely expressive and can be aged with ease. Though there isn’t much this time around, three cuvées are currently in stock.

*Please note that these are not available through our website. To order, please call or email.

Turley Wine Cellars Duarte Vineyard Zinfandel, Contra Costa County 2013 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Wine Spectator 90 points “Dusty rose petal and raspberry aromas lead to fresh and supple flavors of cherry pie, toasted sage and fresh pepper. A pleasure to drink. Drink now through 2020.” WS
Antonio Galloni 89-91 points “The 2013 Zinfandel Duarte Vineyard is bright, lifted and aromatic throughout. This is one of the more vibrant, saline wines in the range, yet there is lovely sweetness and depth to the fruit. Dollops of Carignane and Mataro round out the blend in this intriguing Contra Costa Zinfandel-based red.” AG

Turley Wine Cellars Pesenti Vineyard Zinfandel, Paso Robles 2012 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Antonio Galloni 94 points “The 2012 Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard is wonderfully lifted and precise, especially within the context of Paso Robles. Hints of licorice, anise and orange peel add gorgeous aromatic presence to a core of sweet red stone fruits. Already open and highly expressive, the Pesenti is another fabulous wine that will reward readers with a long and wide drinking window.” AG

Turley Wine Cellars Mead Ranch Zinfandel, Atlas Peak 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Robert Parker 96 points “From a high-elevation vineyard in Atlas Peak, the 2013 Zinfandel Mead Ranch (16.1% alcohol) has its origins at a site planted in 1880, although Larry Turley’s block dates only from 1970. The vines are head-pruned and the soils purely volcanic. One the profound Zinfandels from Turley in 2013, this wine is locked-and-loaded, so to speak – powerful, packed, rich, and full-bodied, with blackberry, blueberry, black raspberry and cherry fruit in abundance. It is obviously full-bodied, thick, even unctuously textured, while it seems to have slightly less acidity than some of the other cuvées – or at least, that’s how it presents itself. This is a stunner to drink over the next 10-12+ years. It is a great Zinfandel and one of the most sumptuous and exotic in the portfolio.” RP

OREGON
Timothy Malone Willamette Valley Pinot 2013 750ML ($29.95) $26 special
Winemaker note “The TMW 2013 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir went through spontaneous fermentation for both primary and malolactic fermentations. It received a minuscule amount of new wood (7%) and a very low dosage of sulfur at bottling allowing it to be enjoyed immediately. The lower alcohol of this wine along with its floral and savory notes will make a perfect pairing with meals for this upcoming holiday season.”

Rene et Vincent Dauvissat Chablis, Burgundy 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Antonio Galloni 87-90 points “Lemon oil, white flowers and orchard fruit are laced together in Dauvissat’s 2013 Chablis. There is plenty of nuance in the glass, but I also can’t help noting how open the Chablis is at this very early stage. The 2013 finishes with notable freshness and vibrancy. Today my sense is that the 2013 will be a very pretty early drinker, but then again, the wines here have a proven track record of aging exceptionally well.” AG

ITALY – PIEDMONT
Burlotto Verduno Pelaverga 2014 750 ($21.95) $16.60 special
Importer note “One of the most unique Burlotto wines is the beautiful red Pelaverga—from an ancient variety grown by the family since 1800… Like everything else bearing the Burlotto name, it is the essence of a noble winemaking tradition.”

ITALY – TUSCANY
Gaja Ca’Marcanda Magari Toscana IGT 2012 750ML ($79.95) $59 special
James Suckling 93 points “Bright and firm with sliced-lemon, blueberry and almond character throughout. Full body, firm tannins and a clean finish. Clean and fresh. Better in 2016.” JS
Wine Spectator 92 points “Rich and bursting with cedar, licorice, black currant and sandalwood aromas and flavors, this red is dense and chewy. Balanced and long, this begs for grilled steak or a roast. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2022. ” WS

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2004 750ML ($119.95) $89 special
Antonio Galloni 95 points “The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is awesome. This finessed, regal Brunello flows onto the palate with seamless layers of perfumed fruit framed by silky, finessed tannins. The wine remains extremely primary at this stage, and its full range of aromas and flavors have yet to emerge, but the sheer pedigree of this Brunello is unmistakable. The elegant, refined finish lasts an eternity, and subtle notes of menthol, spices, licorice and leather add final notes of complexity. The estate’s 2004 Brunello is a wine to buy and bury in the deepest corner of the cellar. Brunello is never inexpensive, but this is the real deal, and in relative terms, it is one of the world’s great values in fine, cellar worthy wine. Incredibly, there are 18,000+ cases of the 2004 Brunello, so it should be fairly easy to source in various markets. The Brunello is made from four vineyards ranging from 250 to 400 meters in altitude, all in Sant’Angelo in Colle. The wines from the various vineyards were aged separately in French oak casks prior to being assembled and bottled.” AG

ITALY – OTHER
Cantine di Terravecchia “Biancalunga” Falanghina, Puglia IGT 2014 750ML ($14.95) $11.90 special
Winery notes “Straw yellow with golden glints. Intense, persisting and fruity scent, with pleasant floral and aromatic notes. The wines of Cantine di Terravecchia are the result of Alberto Longo’s strong determination to enhance the image of and gain recognition for a country, the ‘Daunia’, with its incredible amount of socio-cultural, landscape and productive resources. The ‘Cantine di Terravecchia’ wine project is named after the extraordinary old town of Pietramontecrovino, a small hamlet on the Subappennino Dauno mountains located 450 mt above sea level, where is the origin of Longo’s family.”

Pierre Peters Champagne
Arriving September 10th

At the helm of the estate since 2008, Rodolphe Peters represents the fourth generation at Pierre Peters. Vinifying only chardonnay across their 18 hectares under vine (save for the marvelous new rosé!), the domaine is based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, just south of Épernay.

Pierre Peters also holds sites in Oger, Avize, Cramant, and Chouilly, though 45 of the 63 total parcels farmed are within Le Mesnil. The area was granted Grand Cru status in 1985; an apparent matter of percentage points held them back from the designation prior to then.

In 1858, Gaspar Peters operated within two hectares in Le Mesnil and sold what they harvested to negociants. By 1919, Camille Peters made the decision to make wines under the family name. Pierre, his son, took over in 1944, with the first bottling under the Pierre Peters brand being released a few years after. Upon falling ill, Pierre relinquished his duties to his son François, who ran the estate until 2008. François made huge contributions during his tenure, acquiring more land and expanding sales across France and throughout the world.

Pierre Peters is now among the largest grower-producers – a disappearing phenomenon in a world of big-brands and buyers. They released their first rosé in 2009, which will be arriving shortly.

The domaine has come to be known for racy, mineral-driven Champagnes with classic Chardonnay character, precision, and structure. Some very exciting bottles are on the way to the shop as we speak!

Pierre Peters Champagnes Arriving September 10th

Pierre Peters Cuvee Rose for Albane Brut NV 750ML ($99.95) $79 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 93 points “The NV Brut Rosé per Albane is drop-dead gorgeous. Perfumed, ethereal and beguiling, the Albane is both incredibly delicate and full of flavor. Sweet floral notes, red berries, mint and crushed rocks linger on the bright, crystalline finish. The long, brilliant finish leaves a lasting impression. The Albane is 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Meunier, an unusual combination.” AG

Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut NV 1.5L ($179.95) $149 pre-arrival special
Pierre Peters Cuvee de Reserve Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut NV 3L ($499.95) $399 pre-arrival special
Josh Raynolds–Vinous 92 points “(mostly from 2010, but includes wines from every vintage from 1988 through 2008 except for 1999 and 2003; aged for two years on its lees and disgorged on March 12, 2013): Light gold. Highly perfumed bouquet of yellow apple, pear skin and quinine, with a smoky mineral overtone. Spicy orchard and candied citrus fruit flavors are complemented by notes of sweet butter and anise and gain weight with air. The impressively focused finish shows strong mineral cut and lingering spiciness.” JR

Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2009 750ML ($119.95) $99 pre-arrival special
Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2009 1.5L ($299.95) $269 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 94 points “The 2009 Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons is remarkably polished and balanced throughout, with plenty of vintage 2009 radiance. Apricot pit, smoke, peach and spice overtones take shape in a striking Champagne. Although quite open and expressive today, the 2009 is also holding back a considerable amount of pure, unbridled power as well as potential. Ripe and racy to the core, yet with no excess weight, the 2009 stands out for its exceptional balance. Dosage was 4.7 grams per liter, a bit higher than normal. Péters told me he thought the drier vintage needed a little bit more sugar.” AG

Pierre Peters Cuvee L’Esprit Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2009 750ML ($99.95) $79 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 92 points “The L’Esprit de 2009 is striking. The wine’s body, texture and breadth are all suggestive of a warm, ripe year, there is also plenty of freshness to keep things in balance. Apricot pit, smoke, dried flowers, orange peel, chamomile and honey add nuance through to the huge, resonant finish. This is a terrific showing from the 2009.” AG

Pierre Peters Champagne Available Here Now

Pierre Peters Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut 2007 750ML ($149.95) $129 special, 31 bottles available
Antonio Galloni 94 points “What a pleasure it is to taste the 2007 Cuvée Spéciale Les Chétillons. An absolutely impeccable Champagne, the 2007 is gorgeous today. Crushed flowers, sage, almonds, lemon peel and ripe, juicy pears inform the supple, resonant finish. In 2007, the Chétillons is a model of grace and finesse. This is the first vintage Rodolphe Péters made from start to finish, and he nailed it.” AG

What’s Nouveau, Georges?
Pre-arrivals from Georges Duboeuf:
Great Crus, No Nouveau

Instead of going off to college, young Georges Duboeuf helped out at his family’s vineyard. Among his duties was to deliver wines by bicycle to local restaurants, slowly gaining both an awareness of and an appreciation for the wine business. He then began to bottle Beaujolais in order to meet his clients’ demand, ultimately forming an association of 45 local winegrowers called “l’Ecrin Mâconnais-Beaujolais.” This allowed the Beaujolais to gain a foothold within France as well as prepared Duboeuf for his next massive undertaking.

In 1964, Georges created “Les Vins Georges Duboeuf.” Working as a negociant, he began to bottle wines from throughtout the ten crus of Beaujolais. While the United States because increasingly keen on imported wine in the 70’s and 80’s, Duboeuf capitalized on the enthusiasm within France for Beaujolais Nouveau, elevating the event to a global phenomenon. Japan and Australia caught the fever, anticipating the yearly arrival of the vintage’s first offerings.

Aside from being credited for earning Beaujolais worldwide recognition, Duboeuf is known for his wild, colorful labels and for the freshness and exuberance of his affordable wines. Still active within the business, Georges and his son Franck continue the tradition of the region with an assortment of Beaujolais cuvées.

A handful of Duboeuf’s offerings are available for sale as ‘Pre-Arrivals’, slated to arrive in October.

Case-12 Georges Duboeuf Morgon 2014 750ML ($179.95) $149 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 90 points “The 2014 Morgon Flower Label, the bottles sporting their “Medaille d’Or Coucours Générale Agricole de Paris” stickers, has a smudged strawberry and blackcurrant-scented nose with a hint of wild hedgerow developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, an engaging spiciness from the start continuing throughout. This is a linear but energetic Morgon with pleasing cracked pepper notes sprinkled over the aftertaste. This is very fine.” NM

Case-12 Georges Duboeuf Jean Claude Debeaune Morgon Belles Grives 2014 750ML ($179.95) $149 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 90 points “The 2014 Morgon Belles Grives has a more taciturn nose compared to Duboeuf’s other 2014 Morgons, so be patient with it, since it reveals traces of blackcurrant and kirsch with time, all nicely defined but constantly demanding coaxing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-balanced and focused, with cracked black pepper enlivening the structured finish. Don’t be afraid to give this a little decanting before pouring.” NM

Case-12 Georges Duboeuf Domaine Mont Chavy Morgon 2014 750ML ($179.95) $149 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 90 points “The 2014 Morgon Domaine Mont Chavy was cropped at 45 hectoliters per hectare this year. It has a precise red cherry and bergamot-scented nose that unfurls in the glass. The palate is juicy and quite dense – thick tannin shrouded in lightly spiced redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit that lead to a sharp, nicely focused finish that demonstrates fine backbone. This is probably the best from Georges Duboeuf this year. Very fine.” NM

Case-12 Georges Duboeuf Domaine de la Seigneurie de Julienas 2014 750ML ($199.95) $169 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 91 points “The 2014 Juliénas Domaine de la Seigneurie, which is aged in foudres, has the most enticing aromatics from the appellation under Duboeuf, with an almost Northern Rhône-like personality, touches of burnt toast and licorice infusing the red and black cherries. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, well-judged acidity, quite elegant in the mouth with a vivacious, lightly spiced finish fanning out gently. This comes strongly recommended.” NM

Case-12 Georges Duboeuf Domaine des Rosiers Moulin-a-Vent 2014 750ML ($219.95) $179 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 89-91 points “The 2014 Moulin-à-Vent Domaine des Rosiers, which sees a judicious 15% oak barrel aging, has a precocious and lively bouquet of maraschino cherry, cola and mineral scents that are nicely defined and feminine. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fine acidity and harmony with a mineral-driven finish that leaves the mouth tingling. This is just lovely.” NM

Domaine Pierre Paillard

Pierre Paillard is a small grower-producer with eleven hectares of vineyards, all of which are Grand Cru Bouzy. In the late 1760s, Antoine Paillard purchased a few acres of vineyards in Bouzy. Since that time, eight generations have overseen the estate, which has been bottled under the Pierre Paillard name for four generations. Some plots have been worked by the family for over 250 years. They hold great respect for the land and its yields: the vineyards are sustainably farmed with no additives.

Benoit Paillard returned to the estate in 1973. Much of his knowledge he gained as a child on the estate, working every Thursday in the vineyards or cellar. He took over at a very young age, and still heads the estate today. His sons, Antoine and Quentin, are the eighth generation to work at the estate and continue the tradition of high quality Champagnes.

The family has a higher than typical proportion of Chardonnay vines (about 40%), unusual for an area well known for its Pinot Noir. It was Benoit’s father that planted Chardonnay, and the family maintains the tradition. The grape adds freshness and liveliness to the final cuvees.

The vines are selection massale: vines are replanted from the best cuttings within the vineyard to replace poorly performing vines. The vineyards are sustainably farmed. In the cellar, wines undergo spontaneous fermentation and malolactic fermentation before being aged on the lees for an extended period.

Decadent, layered, unctuous and rich, with classic Cabernet notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, lead pencil, crushed rock and graphite, this awesome 2012 hits the palate with full-bodied richness, no hard edges, a stacked, rich, concentrated mid-palate, and loads of sweet tannin that are almost completely hidden under all of the wine’s fruit and texture. Robert Parker 94 points “The opaque ruby/purple-colored 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz is a blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah from one of the appellation’s more obscure lieu-dits. This stunning 2009 offers copious floral notes intermixed with crushed rock, wet stone, kirsch and black currant characteristics.”RP

Caprili Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 750ML ($49.95) $39 special, 36+ bottles available
Wine Advocate 93 points “Caprili’s 2010 Brunello di Montalcino shows unique aromas with undertones of forest floor and wet earth with grilled herbs and dark fruit. You also get a heavier tone of dried fig and Graham cracker that distinguishes this particular expression of Sangiovese. The wine is smooth and polished with a nice sense of inner elegance. Silky tannins give Giacomo Bartolommei’s Brunello more immediacy and a more approachable drinking window. I very much appreciated the wine’s overall elegance.” ML

Case-12 Weingut A.J. Adam Dhroner Hofberg Riesling Kabinett, Mosel 2011 750ML ($349.95) $299 special, 2 cases available (that’s only $24.92/bottle and the lowest listed price in the USA today!)
Weingut A.J. Adam Dhroner Hofberg Riesling Kabinett, Mosel 2011 750ML ($39.95) $29 special, 17 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92 points “Talcum and orange blossom fetchingly scent Adam’s 2011 Dhronhofberger Riesling Kabinett, then join white peach on a luscious, delicate, subtly creamy palate, with a sense of wafting inner-mouth perfume as well as nut cream and wet stone undertones lasting into a refreshing finish, where the effects of a small lot of wine with unusually high acidity are noticeable and engender a certain largely productive tension. As this opened to the air, a sense of interactive dynamic between its fruit and flowers on the one hand and emerging stony, alkaline, and saline notes on the other served to heighten an already high level of stimulation. This should be a delight to follow for the next 15 years or so and will probably gain in nuanced complexity.” WA
