Louis Jadot Pommard 2011 750ML ($59.95) Was $49, Now $41.90, 21 bottles available
Burghound – “A hint of wood can be seen on the ripe but agreeably fresh aromas of red berry fruit liqueur and warm earth scents. There is reasonably good volume to the round and supple flavors that offer good detail and verve on the lightly mineral-inflected, austere and rustic finish where the wood resurfaces.”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!
The average price is $53

Louis Jadot Les Fuees, Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru 2011 750ML ($129.95) Was $99, Now $66, 5 bottles available
Burghound 90-92 points “Moderate wood frames a very pretty nose of high-toned raspberry, cherry and subtle menthol nuances. There is plenty of the characteristic minerality to the refined and attractively vibrant medium weight flavors that possess a distinctly saline character on the clean and mildly austere finish. The tannins are firm but quite fine-grained and this should age well as the balance is impeccable.”

Louis Jadot Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($259.95) Was $199, Now $189, 4 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 92-95 points “Good bright medium red.  Medicinal cherry liqueur, red licorice and spicy oak on the nose.  Then penetrating and intense but suave, with lovely sappiness to the flavors of raspberry, cranberry and flowers.  The grower Jadot buys this fruit from has recently added a vibrating sorting table, and converted entirely to new stainless steel fermentation tanks as of 2010.” ST

Highlight New Arrival

The ‘Eggo’ from Zorzal was a very pleasant surprise the first time we tasted it here at the shop. The wine had generated a fair amount of buzz and prior vintages scored quite impressively; suffice it to say that expectations were high. By all accounts, ‘Eggo’ performed well beyond our expectations. The Malbec-dominant blend presented a beautiful, balanced array of dark fruits and earth without an overabundance of showiness. We’re happy to now have the wine available for sale in addition to a few other cuvees listed below. Enjoy!
Zorzal Eggo Tinto de Tiza, Tupungato, Argentina 2014 750ML ($39.95) $33 special, 36+ bottles available
Wine Advocate 94 points “The 2014 Eggo Tinto de Tiza is a blend from three different vineyards in Tupungato Winelands in Gualtallary. It’s a blend of mostly Malbec with some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. As is the case with the whole Eggo range, the wine didn’t see any oak, and in this case it was matured in egg-shaped cement vats for one year. There are violets, plums, dark cherries and something earthy. This is slightly riper than the 2013. The medium-bodied palate has is fresh with a silky texture, pure flavors and a mineral-driven finish. At this price I’d buy it by the case. Super!”
Other Fantastic New Arrivals from Zorzal:

Zorzal Terroir Unico Pinot Noir, Tupungato 2013 750ML ($17.95) $11.90 special
Wine Advocate 91 points “The 2013 Terroir Unico Pinot Noir follows the idea of the Terroir Unico range, to show the pure expression of the grape and the place in a line of unoaked wines. This was 20-30% whole-cluster fermented and is very pale colored, almost a rose, very perfumed, with aromas of red fruit and flowers opening to a light to medium-bodied palate, high acidity (blood orange), and a pure, fresh finish. Highly drinkable. Can the price be real?”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!

Zorzal Eggo Filoso Pinot, Tupungato 2014 750ML ($29.95) $24 special
Wine Advocate 92 points “The 2014 Eggo Filoso Pinot Noir is produced with fruit from Gualtallary. It fermented after carbonic maceration in cement vats and like the whole Eggo line, it matured in cement eggs for some nine months and never saw any oak. Pale-colored, floral and showing a lactic touch, it is earthier than the Gran Terroir. The palate is medium-bodied, with floral flavors, very good acidity and a fine texture.”

We have two more selections from Zorzal arriving later in the week – scroll to the end of this newsletter to see!

Mullan Road Cellars Red, Columbia Valley 2013 750ML ($44.95) $36 special
Case-6 Mullan Road Cellars Red, Columbia Valley 2013 750ML ($239.95) $199 special (that’s only $33.17/btl and the lowest listed 6-pack in the USA today!)
Wine Advocate 92-94 points “Tasted out of barrel and a perfumed, floral, lively blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and a splash of Malbec, the 2013 Columbia Valley Red Wine offers ample black raspberry, sweet cassis, spring flowers and sappy herb-like aromas and flavors. Coming from a mix of Stillwater Creek, Seven Hills and Lawrence vineyards, this rock-star barrel sample has medium to full-bodied richness, fabulous purity and fine tannin that frame the finish. It should be relatively civilized on release, yet evolve gracefully for 15 years.”

Leonetti Cellar Merlot, Walla Walla Valley 2014 750ML ($99.95) $88 special
Winery note “Placing one’s nose into a glass of this year’s Merlot results in an immediate smile. It leads with a gorgeous pure fruit nose of compote reduction and graham cracker that jump from the glass. It is so rich, lush, and pure. It is a positively delicious wine that I cannot help but drink more of today, but will easily age 10+ years for those of you who enjoy cellaring wines. This is everything Merlot wants to and can be in Washington State.”

Leonetti Cellar Reserve, Walla Walla Valley 2013 750ML ($199.95) $169 special
Winery note “Our goal every year with Leonetti Reserve is to produce the single monumental bottle representative of Washington State and the beloved Walla Walla Valley. This year’s Cabernet dominant blend has a stunning nose of tar, iron minerality, cassis, and dried flowers ~ especially lavender. On the palate, the wine is powerful and pure, repeating the note of cassis liqueur and black olive compote. All the elements of fruit, acidity, and tannin are perfectly balanced, ensuring a lengthy cellaring life if you have the patience to hide it in your cellar.”

Leonetti Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley 2013 750ML ($119.95) $108 special
Winery note “Dark and brooding, our 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has a beautiful nose of blackberries, blue fruits, spices, and black tea, perfectly framed by a light touch of toasted French oak. As a warm year in the Walla Walla Valley, Cabernet truly shined and yielded deliciously generous wine with a long, pure finish. Classic Leonetti Cabernet from a remarkable vintage. We are so blessed to have four incredible vineyards which all contribute unique characteristics to our Cab and its remarkably consistent quality.”

CALIFORNIA
Wind Gap Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2014 750ML ($49.95) $39 special
Antonio Galloni 93 points “The 2014 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is deep, pliant and incredibly inviting, with a fabulous combination of pliant fruit, expressive aromatics and superb persistence. Rose petal, mint, savory herbs and game add the closing shades of inflection. There is something (a lot) to be said for the wisdom of blending fruit from different sites to make a complete, balanced wine. Wine Gap’s appellation-level wines often prove that point eloquently, as is very much the case here.”

Wind Gap Woodruff Vineyard Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains 2014 750ML ($49.95) $41.90 special
Antonio Galloni 91+ points “The 2014 Pinot Noir Woodruff Vineyard is wonderfully lifted and aromatic, as it so often is. A pretty citrus/blood orange note leads to white pepper, sweet dried cherry and mint, all of which give the Woodruff an exotic, perfumed personality that is compelling. Gracious and light on its feet, this feminine Pinot will drink well for the better part of the next decade. The Woodruff was done with 100% whole clusters. In this vintage, the Woodruff is a touch compact, perhaps owing to the heavy fog that is often present. If the wine fleshes out in bottle, it could turn out to be even better than this note suggests.”

Turley Wine Cellars Duarte Vineyard Zinfandel, Contra Costa County 2014 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Antonio Galloni 90-92 points “The 2014 Zinfandel Duarte Vineyard is pretty, floral and quite aromatic. Midweight and gracious, the 2014 is delicate and light on its feet. Sweet red and bluish hued fruits linger in a soft, nuanced Zinfandel that will drink well upon release.”

Turley Wine Cellars Mead Ranch Zinfandel, Atlas Peak 2014 750ML ($69.95) $59 special
Antonio Galloni 92-94 points “The 2014 Zinfandel Mead Ranch is one of the most vibrant, pulsating wines in the Turley range. Translucent and full of detail, the Mead Ranch possesses captivating beauty and nuance throughout. The flavors are brisk, precise and delineated throughout.”

Turley Wine Cellars Cobb Zinfandel, Amador County 2014 750ML ($59.95) $49 special
Antonio Galloni 88-90 points “The 2014 Zinfandel Cobb Vineyard, from a site at 1500 feet in Amador County, is one of the more rustic wines in this lineup. Mountain tannins and an impression of rusticity pervade in this tightly-wound Zinfandel. The Cobb is very closed today, even for a mountain wine.”

FRANCE-BURGUNDY
Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2013 750ML ($29.95) $26 pre-arrival special
Burghound–“A pretty and attractively fresh nose features notes of assorted red berries, herbal tea and earth. There is good volume to the textured, complex and nicely voluminous flavors that possess fine length on the slightly edgy finish. This racy effort should be approachable young.”
This is the lowest listed price in the USA today!

Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Morey-Saint-Denis 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Burghound–“A discreet touch of wood sets off notes of more complex and more deeply pitched aromas of dark berries, humus and plum along with a similar hint of herbal tea. Here too there is an appealing texture to the velvety and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors that possess good tension on the acceptably balanced and lingering finish that also exhibits a very mild edginess that will probably round off with a year or two of bottle age.”

Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Nuits-Saint-Georges 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Burghound 88 points “Here too there is a touch of herbal tea to the spicy nose of earth, red berries and sauvage hints. There is fine mid-palate density with obviously ripe supporting structure shaping the big and rich flavors that are very Nuits in basic character. This muscular and mildly austere effort should reward 7 to 9 years of cellar time.”

Domaine Forey Pere et Fils Vosne-Romanee 2013 750ML ($69.95) $59 pre-arrival special
Burghound 88 points “A pungent nose of crushed leaf, red pinot fruit and wood introduces very round and seductively textured medium weight flavors that possess a velvety character, all wrapped in a persistent and vibrant finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose reappears.”

Vignobles Brunier Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf-du-Pape La Crau 2013 750ML ($79.95) $69 special
Wine Spectator 92 points “Rather perfumy up front, with savory, mint and incense notes leading the way for silky cherry and raspberry coulis flavors. The finish is lined with subtle tobacco, warm stone and floral hints, ending with a light balsam twinge. This should put on some weight with age. Best from 2017 through 2026.” WS

It is a wine that belies the notion that rosés are simple wines to be drunk up young. We have indulged ourselves with 10-year old Château Simone Rosé and have marveled at the tenacity, vibrancy and complexity of this very serious wine. Expensive yes … but a special experience. A blend identical to the rouge: 45% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault, 20% Syrah, Castet, Manosquin, Carignan, Muscat Noir & Blanc. The mineral backbone of this wine is augmented by the flavors and bouquets sourced from the magnificent pines that surround this estate.”

This Week’s Highlight Re-Arrivals

OREGON
Domaine Serene ‘Evenstad Reserve’ Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2012 750ML ($79.95) $69 special
Wine Advocate & Wine Spectator 93 points “The 2012 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve was picked from late summer after one of the driest on record. There was better heat accumulation, according to Erik Kramer, but he does not regard it has a hot vintage. It was a low yield at around 1.7 and 1.8 tons per acre, partly due to a preflowering cluster removal. The skin-to-pulp ratio was very high and it was raised in 65% new oak over 16 months. It has a deep garnet color. The bouquet is in stark contrast with strawberry pastille and raspberry coulis, hints of iodine developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red berry fruit interlaced with sea salt and white pepper. There is an undercurrent of gaminess to this 2012 that lends intrigue toward the finish that gently grips the mouth. Not as opulent as other 2012 Pinot Noirs that I have tasted, but clearly very well crafted by winemaker Erik Kramer and with a prosperous future ahead.” NM

Domaine Serene ‘Yamhill Cuvee’ Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2012 750ML ($49.95) $41.90 special
James Suckling 93 points, Wine Enthusiast 92 points “This cuvée offers the pleasures of sweet, sappy red fruits, soft tannins and broad swaths of caramel, toasted hazelnuts and mocha. It coats the tongue with flavor and has a sort of insistence that the next sip will be even better.”WE
Winery Notes – “Consistent from vintage to vintage as the “little sister” of the Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir, the Yamhill Cuvée Pinot Noir is a blend from each of our vineyard sites that results in a vibrant, food friendly Pinot Noir.  This wine has an aroma profile that consists of red fruit, minerality, sweet and complex spice, earth and a hint of French oak.  The palate offers youthful tannins and balanced acidity which lead to a smooth and graceful finish.  The Yamhill Cuvée  is approachable in its youth while maintaining the elegance and finesse of a Domaine Serene Pinot Noir.”

Evesham Wood Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2014 750ML ($21.95) $18 special
VinopolNote: A blend of vineyards including Mahonia and Illahe.  Fermented in small, open-top fermentators and aged in neutral wood for 10 months.

Belle Pente Belle Pente Vineyard Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton District 2013 750ML ($27.95) $24 special
Winemaker’s note: Our Pinot Noir grapes are 90-100% de-stemmed and fermented with indigenous and selected yeasts. Following fermentation, the wine flows directly into barrels (25-35% new French oak) for 10-18 months aging. Wines are then assembled and gravity bottled without fining or filtration. These techniques highlight varietal fruit flavors and the unique characteristics of each vineyard site. Annually we produce up to 6 different cuvées of 200 – 900 cases each. Our “house style” emphasizes freshness, complexity, focus, elegance, and balance. Belle Pente Pinot Noirs can be enjoyed young, but will also reward careful cellaring.

CALIFORNIA
Foxglove Chardonnay, Central Coast 2012 750ML ($17.95) $14 special
Jeb Dunnuck-Wine Advocate 89 points “The 2012 Chardonnay Foxglove is my favorite of the bunch and gives up clean and classy white peach, apple blossom and subtle spice in its medium-bodied, juicy and delicious style. Brought up in stainless steel, it’s hard to beat at the price and should be purchased by the case for drinking over the coming year or so.”
Antonio Galloni-Vinous 89 points “Lemon oil, white flowers, mint and slate meld together in the 2012 Chardonnay. Racy and beautifully layered on the palate, this tank-fermented, non-malo Chardonnay delivers exceptional quality for the money.”

FRANCE-LOIRE
Domaine de la Pepiere Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie Les Gras Moutons 2014 750ML ($21.95) $18 special
John Gilman 93+ points “The 2014 Las Gras Moutons from Domaine de la Pépière is a young and very promising bottle of Muscadet, but like so many of the single vineyard bottlings from Marc Ollivier and Rémi Branger these days, this wine will be even better with a few years’ worth of bottle age. The deep, pure and very fresh nose offers up a constellation of green apple, salty ocean breeze notes, really refined leesiness, straw and a beautifully complex base of minerally soil tones. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with superb backend grip, perfectly integrated acids and outstanding balance on the very long finish. This is very, very easy to drink now, but there are more layers here to unfold and it will not really blossom until it has seen at least a few years in the cellar. A really excellent bottle of Muscadet. 2015-2035.”

FRANCE-BORDEAUX
Chateau Graville Lacoste Blanc, Graves 2014 750ML ($19.95) $16 special
Importer notes: “This Graves is distinguished by its high percentage of Sémillon, sourced from vineyards in the greatest white wine terroir in Bordeaux. Its stony soil composition imparts a fresh minerality to the wine. Try this crisp, invigorating blanc with a platter of fresh seafood. 75% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle.”

ITALY-SICILY
Azienda Agricola Arianna Occhipinti Il Frappato Sicilia IGT, Sicily 2013 750ML ($49.95) $34.50 special
James Suckling 95 points “Shows wonderful character with dried strawberry, cherry and fresh lilac aromas that follow through to a medium body, ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. Fantastic finish and finesse. The greatest Frappato ever made. Don’t miss it. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.”
Antonio Galloni 93 points “Bright, dark red. Intensely aromatic nose of strawberry, orange peel, balsamic herbs and black pepper. Enters the mouth fresh and juicy, then turns richer and deeper, showing a bright strawberry quality to the mineral and herbal flavors. Finishes fruity and long, with polished tannins. This outstanding Frappato, made from 55-year-old vines, is a testament to the importance of working with old vineyards.”

ITALY-LIGURIA
Punta Crena Ca da Rena Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente 2013 375ML ($24.95) $18 special
Wine Spectator 89 points “A rich style, sporting peach and melon flavors, with accents of herb and white pepper. Vibrant acidity keeps this lively and extends the saline finish. Drink now through 2018. 377 cases imported.” BS

SPAIN
Bodegas Hermanos Sastre ‘Vina Sastre’ Roble, Ribera del Duero 2014 750ML ($21.95) $19 special
Vinopolnote: An energetic and spice-laden red with raspberry fruit, sweet tannins, and aromas of wild flowers, black fruit, and cola.

SHERRY
Bodegas El Maestro Sierra Oloroso 15 Anos Sherry, Andalucia NV 375ML ($21.95) $16 special
Wine & Spirits 92 points “At just over one dollar for each year of aging, this wine’s price is nearly absurd. What you’ve stolen is viscous and generous, with the precise balance of acidity to rein in the sweetness and frame the voluptuous maturity. It’s a decadent pleasure, trailing nuts, earthy savor and dried fruit in its wake.”

Wine Advocate 90-92 points “The 2012 Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a richer, more tropical-scented bouquet compared to the Bienvenue. The palate is smooth and rounded, rich and mellifluous in the mouth with a long, seductive finish that needs just a little more tension and poise.” WA

Louis Jadot Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($279.95) Was $219, Now $199, 12 bottles available
John Gilman 94+ points “Vineyards such as Bonnes-Mares really have taken advantage of the elegant side of the 2011 vintage, and this is doubly true of this stunning wine from Maison Jadot. The deep, sappy and simply gorgeous nose wafts from the glass in a mélange of black cherries, dark berries, woodsmoke, game, espresso, fresh herbs, stunningly complex soil tones and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite plush on the attack, with great mid-palate depth, laser-like focus, ripe, firm tannins and simply stunning length and grip on the still very young finish. Profound juice….94+”
Stephen Tanzer 93 points “Bright, deep red.  Initially explosive aromas and flavors of cherry, menthol, incense and spices subsided in favor of blueberry, crushed stone and peppermint tea:  very Bonnes-Mares!  Wonderfully silky and scented in the mouth, displaying very good breadth but a light touch.  Finishes with a broad, fine dusting of tannins and excellent length and lift.  A compellingly perfumed and pure wine:  am I greedy for wanting the flesh and sweetness of a warmer year?” ST

Louis Jadot Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2012 750ML ($419.95) Was $349, Now $333, 2 bottles available
Wine Advocate 93-95 points, Wine Spectator 93-96 points “The 2012 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, which underwent a tardy malolactic fermentation, is surprisingly well behaved on the nose strict at first and preferring to unfold in piecemeal fashion to reveal saturnine black fruit laced with inkwell and Indian spice scents. The palate is very well balanced packed full of dense black fruit and struck through with a keen, almost racy acidity. The finish is very solid and structured for Bonnes-Mares that I suspect will age extremely well. In its youth, I suspect this will be impressive more than pleasurable…at least for the first decade of its life.” WA

Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 2012 750ML ($79.95) Was $66, Now $49, 8 bottles available
From the winery “Louis Jadot produces a deeply coloured wine which develops a red berries fruits – and undergrowth aromas when older. Full bodied, delicate this wine has a silky finish. The soil is responsible for Chambolle Musigny’s exceptional delicacy and a character not possessed by any other wine of the Côte de Nuits. It will perfectly match with delicate dishes, not too spicy like red meat, game and quite strong cheeses.”

Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($219.95) Was $169, Now $159, 2 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 95 points “Bright, full medium red.  Knockout nose shows an almost candied character to the aromas of strawberry, cherry, dark berries, lavender, menthol and Indian spices.  Dense, suave and juicy, with a distinctly silky texture to the broad flavors of red fruits, menthol and spices.  Utterly seamless, suave, classically dry Chapelle with outstanding energy and definition.  Still tight today but the wine’s fine-grained tannins and superb breadth and length suggest that it will make a great bottle a decade hence.” ST

Louis Jadot Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 750ML ($499.95) Was $449, Now $399, 3 bottles available
John Gilman 95+ points “The 2009 Jadot Montrachet (which hails from the Chassagne side of the vineyard, by the way) is also exceptional. The nose offers up a great and compelling mélange of apple, white peach, lemon, great minerality, floral tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and superbly structured, with a rock solid core of fruit, beautiful focus and balance, impeccable grip and a very long, racy and refined finish. A wonderful bottle of wine. 2020-2050”

Louis Jadot Montrachet Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($419.95) Was $379, Now $349, 3 bottles available
Burghound 94-97 points “Here the nose is notably more reserved with aromas of citrus zest, spice, wood toast, fennel and spice hints. This is also a very imposingly-scaled wine with its big, muscular and wonderfully complex flavors that culminate in a long, focused and explosive finish of breathtaking length and intensity. This overtly powerful effort should reward at least a decade in the cellar and drink well for another. A ‘wow’ wine.” BH

Louis Jadot Le Musigny Grand Cru 2011 750ML ($599.95) Was $459, Now $399, 1 bottle available
Stephen Tanzer 94-97 points “Medium red.  Reticent but pristine aromas of cranberry, raspberry and clove oil, plus an exhilarating suggestion of candied fruit.  Superconcentrated, silky and utterly seamless; wonderfully spherical wine with great fruit intensity and complexity and a pungent crushed stone element.  Combines a texture of liquid velvet with an almost magically light touch.  Finishes with noble tannins and great length and grip.  Even sweeter on the finish than the Amoureuses.  Great wine in the making.” ST
John Gilman – View from the Cellar 97 points “The queen in the Jadot cellars is brilliant in 2011. The stunning nose offers up a cornucopia of red and black cherries, plums, dark chocolate, woodsmoke, a marvelously complex base of soil, a touch of nutskin, mustard seed, coffee and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and potentially very velvety, with a beautifully sappy core, ripe, utterly suave tannins, great focus and balance and a very, very long, vibrant and completely seamless finish. A great bottle of Musigny in the making! 2025-2100.” –

Stephen Tanzer 92 points “Good medium red.  Raspberry, redcurrant and strong spicy oak on the nose.  Densely packed but a bit youthfully rough today, with raspberry and spicy oak flavors framed by sound acidity and substantial dusty tannins.  Plenty of breadth and energy here but this grand cru will need at least a couple more years to harmonize in bottle.” ST

Louis Jadot Clos Saint-Jacques, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 2011 750ML ($169.95) Was $119, Now $99, 8 bottles available
Stephen Tanzer 92-94 points “Good medium red. Red berries, coffee and mocha on the nose, with a note of blood orange emerging with air. Began large-scaled and spicy but rather inexpressive, but aeration brought greater sweetness of fruit and elegance, with a whiff of blood orange providing lift. Ultimately more expansive than the Estournelles but this wine will need at least a few years in the cellar following its release.” ST

Louis Jadot Clos Saint-Jacques, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru 2012 750ML ($219.95) Was $169, Now $149, 5 bottles available
Wine Advocate 92-94 points “The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques has a fragrant bouquet: floral at first with touches of violet, later revealing a stony scents, hints of chalk dust and flint surfacing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and impressive focus. It feels composed in the mouth with good matiere, yet it remains sophisticated and tense right to the finish. There is nothing flash here, just pure quality.” WA

Winery note “Louis Jadot Vosne Romanée “Les Petits Monts” not very well known because it is a quite small vineyard. Antonio Galloni 91 points “The 2012 Langhe Nebbiolo S. Francesco, Fontanazza is a very serious wine, and the most intriguing of these entry-level offerings. Expressive floral notes meld into expressive fruit in an exceptionally polished wine. Over the summer, I tasted the 2012 from tank after all the Barolos and it more than held its own, which is why I can say without hesitation that Voerzio’s Langhe Nebbiolo competes favorable with the vast majority of Barolos. It is that good.”

Roberto Voerzio Priavino Dolcetto d’Alba 2013 750ML ($27.95) $21.90 pre-arrival special
Antonio Galloni 89 points “Voerzio’s 2013 Dolcetto d’Alba Priavino is dark, fleshy and opulent. Leather, smoke and licorice add nuance to the dark fruit in this polished, voluptuous Dolcetto. The 2013 has closed down a bit since it was bottled, which shows just how serious of a wine this is. Over time, hints of lavender, violet and white pepper add notes, but like all the Voerzio wines, the Dolcetto is above all else a wine of texture.”

Domaine de Montille
New Wines Arriving Friday

Domaine de Montille Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Cote de Beaune 2013 750ML ($219.95) $189 pre-arrival special
Stephen Tanzer 91+? points “Bright pale yellow. Pear, lime and crushed and wet stone on the nose, plus a suggestion of lavender that carries through onto the palate. Densely packed and tactile, with strong acidity and stony minerality giving this wine a distinctly austere, slightly disjointed impression. The tannins reminded me of a red wine. No easy sweetness here, but this is built to age.”
Burghound 90-93 points “Once again the nose is quite reduced and impossible to assess. In the same fashion as the Perrières there is a lovely sense of tension and complexity to the slightly denser and more powerful flavors that exude a note of green apple on the dry but not really austere finale. This too should benefit from a few years of cellar time to better harmonize but it should be worth the wait.”
Neal Martin-Wine Advocate 90-92 points “The 2013 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, which comes from south-east facing vines, has a well-defined, slightly resinous bouquet (candle wax and pithy pear) that demonstrates good intensity and perfume. The palate is well balanced with lemon peel and white peach notes the segue into quite a terse, almost aloof finish. I would like to see just a little more cohesion by the time of bottling, but there is certainly potential here.”

Domaine de Montille Les Perrieres, Meursault Premier Cru 2012 750ML ($179.95) $149 pre-arrival special
Burghound 90-92 points “Here too strong sulfur and reduction render the nose impossible to assess. As one would reasonably expect this is intensely mineral-driven with an excellent sense of energy and tension to the saline-inflected flavors that display only moderate depth on the otherwise wonderfully long and well-balanced finish. My range offers the benefit of the doubt that more depth will develop with age.” BH

Domaine de Montille Les Grands Epenots, Pommard Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($149.95) $133 pre-arrival special
Burghound 87-90 points “This is earthier than the Péz and not quite as elegant with its aromas of plum, red currant, forest floor and softly oaked nose. There is a sleek, round and velvety mouth feel to the medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a moderately austere and dry finish that may round out but that is far from clear.”

Domaine de Montille Les Pezerolles, Pommard Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($149.95) $133 pre-arrival special
Burghound 88-91 points “This is the first wine to this point to exhibit any appreciable wood influence though it’s not so much as to mask the otherwise fresh, spicy and layered plum and black currant aromas. There is a really lovely mouth feel to the tension and mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that also display just a touch of backend dryness. Still, my sense is that this should mature nicely even if the balance is unlikely to be ideal.”

Domaine de Montille Les Rugiens, Pommard Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($199.95) $179 pre-arrival special
Stephen Tanzer 91+ points “(completely destemmed): Healthy deep, bright red. Very expressive, slightly metallic perfume of red berries and iron. Delivers a stimulating combination of sweet, almost candied fruits and penetrating acidity, with an herbal element contributing to the impression of inner-mouth lift. This very savory, intense Rugiens finishes a bit tough; in fact, it went into a shell in the glass.”
Burghound 90-92 points “A subtle hint of wood serves as a backdrop to the very fresh, spicy and ripe nose of exotic tea and black fruit liqueur aromas. There is a lovely sense of tension to the stony, intense and tautly muscular middle weight plus flavors that possess notably better balance and length on the complex finish.”
Neal Martin-Wine Advocate 88-90+ points “The 2013 Pommard 1er Cru les Rugiens was completely destemmed after around 50% of the crop had survived the travails of poor flowering and hail. It was raised in 40% new oak and finished its malolactic very late during the 2014 harvest. Consequently the aromatics are not expressive at the moment, however the palate appears to show more fruit and flesh than the Pezerolles and may well turn out to be the better of the two Pommards.”

Domaine de Montille Le Cailleret, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($199.95) $159 pre-arrival special
Burghound – Outstanding 91-93 points—“Here there is no such reduction as the expressive nose is composed of acacia blossom, pear and lemon zest. As with all of the whites in the de Montille stable there is an intense minerality to the citrusy medium-bodied flavors that possess the best concentration in the range, all wrapped in a well-balanced, complex and strikingly persistent finish. Patience will of course be required but this should be excellent in time.”
Stephen Tanzer 91-93 points “Bright gold-tinged yellow. Refined, soil-inflected aromas of crushed stone, menthol, noble herbs and sexy brown spices, with fruit in the deep background. Juicy and penetrating, boasting terrific inner-mouth perfume and saline minerality to the concentrated flavors of yellow fruits and spices. Finishes with excellent rocky length and dusty, spicy grip. The crop level here was a solid 40 hectoliters per hectare: “Puligny was generous in 2013,” noted Etienne de Montille.”
Neal Martin-Wine Advocate 90-92 points “The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Caillerets has a very elegant bouquet with dried white flowers and jasmine scents, not so far from the Meursault Perrières in style. The palate is well balanced with touches of bitter lemon and orange rind, plenty of finesse and tension, especially on the finish that feels long in the mouth. This is a well-crafted Caillerets to enjoy over the next decade.”

Domaine de Montille Les Malconsorts Cuvee Christiane, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($699.95) $599 pre-arrival special
Neal Martin-Wine Advocate 94-96 points “The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts “Christianne,” which I asked to taste directly alongside the regular Malconsorts, has more delineation and precision, more mineralité coming through on the nose, veins of wet limestone and sea spray emerging with time. The palate is also noticeably different with greater tension and focus, a sense if coiled-up energy that is uncommon in this vintage. This surely illustrates the profound effects of terroir: a serious 2013 that should age with style.”
Stephen Tanzer 92-95 points “Bright, deep red. More discreet on the nose than the “regular” Malconsorts, showing ineffable floral lift. A step up in fruit intensity and pungency, but with powerful crushed-stone minerality keeping the wine under wraps today. Conveys a very strong impression of extract and stuffing but very closed in on itself today. Brisk acidity contributes to the impression of energy. The wine’s sophisticated tannins spread out horizontally to saturate the palate on the sappy, very firm finish. Great incipient complexity here but this will require serious patience.”
Burghuound –Outstanding 92-95 points—“As is often the case this is aromatically quite similar to the regular cuvée except that it is ever-so-slightly spicier and perhaps with a bit more floral influence. There is fine volume, power and punch to the big-bodied and robust flavors that retain a refined mouth feel as the tannins are once again dense but fine plus they are well-buffered by the copious dry extract that imparts a velvety texture to the strikingly long finale. One aspect where this does depart from the normal pattern is that this is noticeably more structured and will thus require a few more years of cellar time. In sum, this is impressive juice with terrific development potential.”
This is the only listing in the USA today!

Domaine de Montille Les Malconsorts, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru 2013 750ML ($349.95) $299 pre-arrival special
Stephen Tanzer 94+ points “(vinified with two-thirds whole clusters and aged in 50% new oak): Bright, dark red. Knockout musky but backward nose combines raspberry, flinty minerality and truffley earth. Very concentrated, mineral-driven wine with a restrained sweetness and complex soil tones to its pungent flavors of red cherry and raspberry. Suave and juicy but a bit youthfully imploded, finishing with serious, noble tannins. Already quite smooth but it would be criminal not to lay this down for at least a few years.”
Burghound –Outstanding 92-94 points—“This is less obviously floral in character though this element is still quite prominent on the discreet spicy aromas of plum, dark raspberry and sandalwood nuances. There is an equally sleek mouth feel to the broad-shouldered and muscular flavors that possess an exquisite sense of underlying tension and plenty of minerality, all wrapped in a firm, cool, linear and built-to-age finale. I very much like the complexity and the persistence is most impressive.”
Neal Martin-Wine Advocate 91-93 points “The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts appeared very closed and unresponsive on the nose, a little subdued when compared to the Corton Clos du Roi ’13 alongside. Then it begins to wake up with blackberry, cranberry and raspberry preserve that blossoms with each encouraging swirl. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, supple and rounded in the mouth, exerting a gentle grip and a long finish that belies the backbone. This is very fine, although as I remarked at the time, I feel that there is a clear difference between this and the “Christianne” cuvée this year.”

Arriving This Week
A Few More Picks from Zorzal

Zorzal Eggo Blanc de Cal, Tupungato, Argentina 2014 750ML ($29.95) $24 pre-arrival special
Wine Advocate 92 points “The 2014 Eggo Blanc de Cal is pure Sauvignon Blanc from two different vineyards in Gualtallary. The full clusters are pressed and the must was fermented and aged in contact with the lees for nine to ten months in their famous egg-shaped cement vats. This is more subtle and earthy, less Sauvignon, with the fruit expressing itself in a lower-pitched voice, more of a baritone. It’s also has a little wider, pungent and powerful character in the mouth. This is only around 13% alcohol, and even though in 2014 it didn’t go through malolactic fermentation, it’s still a very light and fresh wine. Groundbreaking Sauvignon. 4,800 bottles were produced, fruit of two eggs.” LG

Zorzal Eggo Franco Cabernet Franc, Tupungato, Argentina 2015 750ML ($34.95) $27 pre-arrival special
No Reviews Yet On The 2015 – Here Is The Wine Advocate On The 2014- 94 points “There is a Cabernet Franc in the Eggo range, and I tasted the 2014 Eggo Franco, produced with grapes from Tupungato Winelands in Gualtallary, a place that defines itself as a wine country club that touts a combination of real estate, vineyards and sport facilities, including golf and polo! The vines were only planted in 2008 (everything in Gualtallary is really new). There are some 300 hectares of vines there, in one of the best parts of Gualtallary. They have three-hectare plots owned by mostly foreign investors and most of the highly sought after grapes are sold. Zorzal has agreements to buy grapes (and control the viticulture) of 20 of these plots. Incredibly perfumed for a Cabernet Franc, as the nose is very floral and made me think of a Malbec rather than a Cabernet Franc. The spiciness of all these Eggo wines comes from the grapes and the fermentation and aging in cement, as none of the wines see any oak. And I tell you one thing, you do not miss the oak or the complexity or anything, it’s all here. This is the first year for this vertical, fresh, tremendous Cabernet Franc. Well done, bravo! 2,200 bottles produced. The Michelini brothers keep producing fresh, elegant and terroir-driven wines from their base in Gualtallary. The range seems to be growing almost infinitely, as their creativity also seem to have no limits”
